Thomas Vanek signs 1 year, $2.6m deal with Detroit

They didn't send Richards to a contender last year, they won't trade Vanek either. He's only 32, they'll re-sign him, especially if he does good.

Thomas Vanek signs 1 year, $2.6m deal with Detroit

He's 32. Yzerman didn't win his first Cup until he was 31. He will be fine and score 30+ goals and get rewarded with another contract.

I predicting right now, it's going to be Fowler and the cost will be Nyquist or Tatar and a 2nd round pick. Will still have to move a defenseman to make room, Holland will try to get rid of E and retain some salary, or go the easier route and trade Smith. Calgary wants a left handed defenseman. Mark it.

IMO Pulk and Jurco are useless on the 4th line. They're Also Useless As 13/14 forwards. Miller - Glendening - Ott is the type of 4th line wE need. If you can't get either of them in the top 9, then cut your losses and try to get some sort of value for them in trade. Or deal other assets in order to better your D and make room for them in the top 9.

    Stamkos to... Tampa

Wouldn't be the first time he put a cabash on a player coming "home" to play....Fedorov.

    Stamkos to... Tampa

Hmmmm, Holland contacted Nielsen the 1st day, Babs didn't want Stamkos, looking like his only choice was to go back to Tampa.

    Stamkos to... Tampa

Our former coach will get the last laugh by excluding Stamkos from any international play for the next 7 years. He is in charge of Team Canada...

    Who should get A?

I agree...but Holland won't give up what it would take to get a "Kessel" on our team. He needs to make the deal for Trouba/Shatt/Fowler and then let this core grow over the next 6 years winning and losing and learning. I'd prefer Fowler or Trouba and then if he gets to July 1, then try to sign Shatt. Or even at the deadline...

    Shanny had an A....just sayin.

We definitely should've said goodbye to Helm. Especially if they were going to sign 3 new forwards. This just tells me that they have no confidence in Pulkkinen or Jurco and feel they can lose Nyquist or Tatar in a deal and miss them. Same goes for Sproul and Jensen.

    Who should get A?

If Helm gets a NMC then I see him getting the A. His contract on capfriendly is still showing unconfirmed details. I am just waiting for the day that NMC pops up there! Then I freak the f*** out!

So of the pairs below which one player of the two would you rather give up to land that top 2 defender? You can only choose one from the pair(s.) 1. Nyquist or Tatar 2. Pulkkinen or Jurco 3. Athanasiou or Mantha ....first two not so tough, but the 3rd pair I am torn. I trade: 1. Nyquist 2. Pulkkinen 3. Mantha...I just like AA a lot, but I'd trade BOTH Nyquist and Tatar to keep AA and Mantha!

Who do you have as the top 5 Wings of all time..

Not to be a stickler, but 1997 Fedorov led the team in playoff scoring, 98 he was 2nd 4 points behind Steve (He lead the team in goals with 10) and 02, 2nd again 4 points behind Steve. Steve was a better leader than Sergei, but production-wise, Fedorov was the better player. Regular season and playoffs. But they both make my top 5 all time anyway!
  18. Smith will be a UFA after the season, he may not need to be protected... Even if he was left unprotected, and claimed by Vegas, he could just go UFA July 1 and re-sign here. Not sure how UFA status will work, but I am sure the selecting team wouldn't want to claim anyone who may not be interested in siging a contract with them.

Who do you have as the top 5 Wings of all time..

Steve only had 9 more playoff points than Fedorov, yet played in 32 more playoff games. Fedorov was and is the best playoff performer in Detroit Red Wings history. Yzerman is actually a career -11 in the playoff and Fedorov is a +38. Yzerman was great, but Fedorov was better.
  20. He for sure needs to be protected, automatically. But I guess if they had landed Stamkos he would've been too. Not sure on the list, not sure of the rules. 2 yrs or less are safe?
  21. For those of you who didn't like the term of this contract, sit down, because he got the dreaded NMC included. God I hope he didn't give one to Helm.....ugh!

I'm seeing that Yerman has his work cut out for him, he has to re-sign all of Nesterov, Namestikov, Kucherov and Killhorn all under $12M in the remaining cap.. Probably could be done if they all agree to bridge deals, but honestly with the market, they all probably deserve $4M-$5M. Hell, Kucherov had 30 goals amng 66 pionts! He has 29 goals among 65 points the year prior! Thats money in todays NHL!
  23. i also think if he could make a deal for Barrie, that may score him some points...but if any of these trades include Mantha or AA, I think that would bury him even deeper. I'd also like to see him try to get Joe Morrow (RFA) into the organization.

at Hudler still not being signed by anyone. I'm surprised Versteeg is still out there as is Gagner. On the D, surprising that Russell, Schultz, Schenn and Jackman are still out there.
