Official 2016 Detroit Red Wings Offseason Thread
LeftWinger replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
IMO there are 3 dmen in GR that will be on this team within the next 4 years. Russo, Hicketts and Saarijarvi. They will replace Kronwall, Ericsson and Smith respectively. If there is a deal made, it'll be for someone to lead this D into that era. Now, maybe Smith gets dealt in a fowler deal, but here is what I see in that time. (Assuming it's Fowler) Fowler - Saarijarvi DeKeyser - Hicketts Russo - Marchenko Not in that order, but for sure our top 6. Unfortunately Jensen, Sproul and XO have no future here and will probably be dealt or waived or spend their careers in GR. They could sign elsewhere if they choose to. We have roughly $9M available with our LTIR, give them both $4.5M deals for 4 years each. Then make the trade for our top guy. Going to have to trade Howard this season....to someone. -

Problem is, nobody's trading number one defenseman. We would have never had a shot at Weber or Subban. There are no top 5 defense men out there available. But he has to make a deal to make our defense better and Fowler would do that. Defense or not he has to deal some of these forward there's too many of them. -
signed Darren Helm re-signed: 5 years, $3.85m AAV

Oh ya, I still puke a bit whenever I read the topic title too! I like the jab at the FBI and the Hildabeast, btw. -

Another local kid though, he will probably be proud to come home and play here. He'd most likely re-sign and end his career here. I like the kid, I think he's better than Shattenkirk, plus the home factor means whatever we give up would be worth it because he would more than likely stay for a long time. Shattenkirk has no reason to stay after this one season. I hear Winnipeg is not giving up Trouba, so that's why I didn't mention him. -
Signed Thomas Vanek signs 1 year, $2.6m deal with Detroit
LeftWinger replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
I dont. Vanek is only 32 years old. He is a much better option than we had last season. He is a PP specialist, scores dirty rebound goals and has the potential to score 30+ goals. No one is going to be surprised if he only scores 10, everyone already expects him to fail, but he could very well score 35 or more. He will get top PP time, he will top 6 if not top 3 minutes. He will return to form here. He Went To A PRESSURE HOTBED in Minnesota. He was supposed to join the Olsen twins and bring a Cup. They will not win a Cup anytime soon and the pressure is on because of the twins signings and he was supposed to be a missing piece. That's a ton of pressure. Here he can relax, help the PP and help get us back to the playoffs. This is not a Cup team, but with Nielsen here for the rest of his career and with the right move for a top defender, there's no reason why this team cannot win a Cup within 3-5 years. Vanek will want to be part of that and he will be out to prove he belongs. Again, he's only 32, he has a good 5-6 of quality hockey left. He can't be compared to Richards, he is 36, I never expected him to be re-signed, in expect Vanek to earn himself a 4 year $20M-ish extension. -

This thread has been high jacked by the world wide criminal syndicate known as the Corsi Bandits. It's actually making people not want to post or read here. I find myself just scrolling past the posts that have "short story" qualifications. Or name calling arguments. What I'd like to know is which would you rather do: Trade AA plus 1st for Shattenkirk OR Nyquist plus 2nd for Fowler For my money I'm going Fowler, I'd sweetin the deal a bit with a GR defenseman like Sproul or XO if I had to. But no way I give up AA. -

They didn't send Richards to a contender last year, they won't trade Vanek either. He's only 32, they'll re-sign him, especially if he does good. -

He's 32. Yzerman didn't win his first Cup until he was 31. He will be fine and score 30+ goals and get rewarded with another contract. -

I predicting right now, it's going to be Fowler and the cost will be Nyquist or Tatar and a 2nd round pick. Will still have to move a defenseman to make room, Holland will try to get rid of E and retain some salary, or go the easier route and trade Smith. Calgary wants a left handed defenseman. Mark it. -

IMO Pulk and Jurco are useless on the 4th line. They're Also Useless As 13/14 forwards. Miller - Glendening - Ott is the type of 4th line wE need. If you can't get either of them in the top 9, then cut your losses and try to get some sort of value for them in trade. Or deal other assets in order to better your D and make room for them in the top 9. -
Wouldn't be the first time he put a cabash on a player coming "home" to play....Fedorov.
-
Hmmmm, Holland contacted Nielsen the 1st day, Babs didn't want Stamkos, looking like his only choice was to go back to Tampa.

Help, I'm stepping into the Twilight Zone.... -
Our former coach will get the last laugh by excluding Stamkos from any international play for the next 7 years. He is in charge of Team Canada...
-
I agree...but Holland won't give up what it would take to get a "Kessel" on our team. He needs to make the deal for Trouba/Shatt/Fowler and then let this core grow over the next 6 years winning and losing and learning. I'd prefer Fowler or Trouba and then if he gets to July 1, then try to sign Shatt. Or even at the deadline...

Shanny had an A....just sayin.

We definitely should've said goodbye to Helm. Especially if they were going to sign 3 new forwards. This just tells me that they have no confidence in Pulkkinen or Jurco and feel they can lose Nyquist or Tatar in a deal and miss them. Same goes for Sproul and Jensen. -
If Helm gets a NMC then I see him getting the A. His contract on capfriendly is still showing unconfirmed details. I am just waiting for the day that NMC pops up there! Then I freak the f*** out!

So of the pairs below which one player of the two would you rather give up to land that top 2 defender? You can only choose one from the pair(s.) 1. Nyquist or Tatar 2. Pulkkinen or Jurco 3. Athanasiou or Mantha ....first two not so tough, but the 3rd pair I am torn. I trade: 1. Nyquist 2. Pulkkinen 3. Mantha...I just like AA a lot, but I'd trade BOTH Nyquist and Tatar to keep AA and Mantha! -
Who do you have as the top 5 Wings of all time..
LeftWinger replied to shocky2002's topic in General
Not to be a stickler, but 1997 Fedorov led the team in playoff scoring, 98 he was 2nd 4 points behind Steve (He lead the team in goals with 10) and 02, 2nd again 4 points behind Steve. Steve was a better leader than Sergei, but production-wise, Fedorov was the better player. Regular season and playoffs. But they both make my top 5 all time anyway!
