    2024 TDL Thread

TDL Scenario fun! to ANA: Veleno, Berggren, Holl, 2025 (protected to 2026) 1st, 2026 2nd to DET: Gudas, Vetrano, Zegras Too much? Not enough? No interest? Rumors are Berg doesn't want to sign, Holl is odd man out, Veleno is not needed here. Gudas has 2 more years, Zegras 2 more years, Vetrano 1 more year after this season. We'd gain more salary, but it has term. Veleno has arbitration rights this off season, do you want to pay him $3M+ or have Zergas already signed for 2 more, albeit at $5.75M, Detroit could absorb that. Holl to ride the bench for $3.25M or Gudas in top 4 for $4M? Disgruntled Berggren, or Vetrano with one more year @ $2.45M? Trade Fabbri in the offseason, or even buy him out to make more salary/roster room. Re-sign all of Sprong, Kane, Fischer and Perron. Top 6: Kane - Larkin - Debrincat Zegras - Compher - Raymond Top 4: Walman - Seider Edvinsson - Gudas

I just chose him as the example. My first choice is Andersson. Put him in all the places I mentioned Chychrun.

Yes, I said that at the end. We could just keep Petry as the #7.

https://www.yardbarker.com/nhl/articles/red_wings_reportedly_listening_to_offers_on_defensemen/s1_14825_40022834 So, let's look at this. We'd like to make our D better NOW and for the future. We need to have a spot open for Edvinsson next season as well. IMO, if, indeed, there were teams interested in Holl, then trade him by all means. Whether that is in a package or for a pick, do it, this opens up a 7th D spot this season. Decide which D-man you are going to acquire at the TDL, Andersson, Chychrun, or Hanifin. We all know the positives and negatives of each. Let's just say we go for Chychrun. Not gonna guess a package, because with Yzerman you never know if he is going to fleece someone, or pay up to outbid someone. We'll just say BOOM, we have Chychrun. You ride in to the playoffs with this D: Walman - Seider Ghost - Chychrun Maatta - Chiarot Petry This summer, you let Ghost walk and (hear me out) buy out Petry's last year. That makes your D look like this: Walman - Seider Edvinsson - Chychrun Maatta - Chiarot OPEN You could always not buy out Petry and he could just be the #7 guy rotating in and out. Or maybe there's someone out there better that may push Chiarot to #7. IMO, if someone wants Holl, and they aren't on his 10-team list, trade him. He's doing us no good sitting. Get a pick, and then acquire that D-Man that will be with the club for years.

My hope for Andesson has been mentioned more than enough. If he is acquirable, this is the guy that makes the most sense. Again real quick, 2 more years on his contract at a great price. Hanifin would not only cost more to acquire (bidding war,) he's gonna hit pay dirt in July and would be too expensive. Chychrun, while younger, and he does still has another year left, will probably be more costly to acquire as well, especially being inner divisional. If I'm choosing immediate help in the top 4, and also moving forward, it's Andersson. Especially if I'm giving up Berggren.

Wenneberg has an expiring contract. I don't see Yzerman trading assets for a pending UFA unless he fits the mold of being a core piece. At 29, not sure he's worth an extension. But hey, let Yzerman be Yzerman. My top target is Andersson, if not then Chychrun. Hanifin will just be too expensive to extend, IMO. Chychrun fits the core rebuild better at 25, but it's not like Andersson is old at 27 either. Those two are my "fingers crossed" we get one of them guys. Up front I'm kinda up in the air about. We have lots of fire power, do we just try to bolster bottom 6? Do we acquire Vatrano? He's 29, like Wenneberg, but still has some term left. Plus Verbeek may be easier to deal with. Either way, I don't Yzerman losing a trade though. Also, do we ride Lyon into the playoffs and hope he continues his good year?

I guess we have to ask ourselves then if we trade Berggren for a top 4 D, are we taking a bigger step forward in the NHL, or are we taking a bigger step back when it comes to prospects. Chychrun being 25 definitely becomes one of our core players, but is there enough fwd prospects to make up for the potential loss of Berggren?

This is why I don't see a rental coming here. Tanev just doesn't make sense at this time, but Chychrun or Hanifin does. I'm still adding Andersson in there, although I never hear his name out there as a trade target. Again, G's are different. Markstrom wouldn't be a rental with 2 years left, but he probably won't be part of a nucleus either. He would be a great goalie to have while we wait and see where Cossa and Augustine top out. My D choices in order are Andersson(if available,) then Chychrun, then Hanifin IF he'll re-sign. No thanks to Tanev.

https://octopusthrower.com/posts/3-forwards-detroit-red-wings-need-re-sign-01hq1j2rhqpj/3 Sprong, Fischer, Kane I agree, we need to re-sign all three. Hopefully Sprong opts for term over a huge pay day. He'll still cost some bucks, but 4-5 years with a nice raise might be more attractive to him. Can't help if he prefers a huge increase though.

We'll end up getting Vatrano for something like McIsaac and a pick, then we'll get Chychrun for Berggren. Before anyone says that's not enough, remember Yzerman got Debrincat for basically just a utility forward and a 29 or higher 1st. He'll be able to swing Berggren for Chychrun. I wonder if Soderblom is on someone's radar? He seems like he's fallen down the prospect list a little. With Calgary entering a bit of a rebuild they might be interested in prospects that are a couple steps away from the NHL.

Seems like a lot of cash to me. Raymond gonna cost $8M now. Seider gonna hit 10.

I just have this odd feeling Yzerman is at the point to where he'll be mortgaging some futures for upgrades now. @Dabura said it, we'd hate to be screwed in G next season if Lyon turns out to just have "one of those seasons." It happened with Ned, its happened with Husso to an extent, and now he's is just injury prone. Stealing Markstrom out from under other teams (especially Jersey, looking to pass us) would not only help this year, but he's got 2 more seasons on his contract. He's at $6M, but Calgary is expected to have over $22M next season in cap space. Maybe Yzerman can get them to retain some salary somehow. Markstrom has got to be the best G available. Plus having 2 years left, he can ride with Lyon next season and then in 2 years see where Cossa stands. D needs an upgrade, not just now either, moving forward. Whether that be Chychrun, Hanifin (who has said he'd love to sign long-term in Tampa, so he'd probably be a pure rental, which i think Yzerman would avoid) or if we could get Andersson. It's all unknown, but I'm definitely on the "buy" bandwagon!

Yes I think he'll be fine. The people that Yzerman sells probably weren't going to be around next season anyhow. But as we inch closer to March 8, it just feels like Yzerman is gonna be buying instead of selling. We might be saying goodbye to some picks and prospects. Especially if he can acquire a player that'll be around for years. As mentioned, my homerun TDL would be Andersson and Markstrom. But I wouldn't be surprised if he acquires something more like Vatrano and Chychrun. We could use some top 6 help. Vatrano is 29 though, so even if he swiped Andersson and Markstrom, he may still look for a forward. I just can't imagine how much better this team would be with those two on it! Now and moving forward. Markstrom and Lyon while we wait for Cossa and Augustine. Then also the 6 D for next season I listed earlier. Probably won't happen, but we'd be the TDL winners if you ask me!

Even if they fall out of the playoffs by TDL, Kane isn't being dealt. Sprong could get dealt either way, because he'll probably walk come July. Try to get something for him. But maybe if they make it, Yzerman would rather keep him for the run and just let him walk later. They gotta upgrade the top 6, middle pairing and G position if they're gonna go for the playoffs. I'm still liking sniping Markstrom out of Calgary. Give me Markstrom and Andersson in a shocking Yzerman deal that upsets the whole playoff picture! Whoever he acquires, it won't be a pure rental. It'll be a piece that will be here for years to come. G position being different of course. Sometimes getting that 30+ goalie is the best move while your guys grow. Even if he acquires a UFA to be, it'll only be because he's confident they'll be staying for another contract at least. He isn't giving up 1sts or Berggren for a rental.
