Fixing this mess will require hard trades and big UFA signing's... Trade Howard, Nyquist, Ericsson, Smith all at the draft for more picks. Let KFQ, Helm, Richards and possibly Miller all walk. Might have to trade Sproul and Jensen if they aren't in the plans. Sign Stamkos and Yandle and B/U goalie. Larkin - Stamkos - Abdelkader AA - Datsyuk - Mantha Tatar - Z - Jurco Miller (if re-signed) - Sheahan - Glenny Pulk Yandle - Dekeyser Kronwall - Green XO - Marchy Renouf Mrazek Enroth (or Hiller or maybe Coreau) note: Z on the 3rd is not to say he stinks, but he would be able to play less and conserve his back to prolong his career. Work for Yzerman, why not Hank?

Well then you trade Howard, Ericsson, Smith and Nyquist at the draft for picks to open up salary. Then you gamble (again, as with Suter/parise) and throw the wallet at Stammer and Yandle. Then sign a Jonas Enroth or Jonas Hiller to backup Mrazek. But from a business standpoint, IMO you have to get Petr re-signed before you deal Jimmy. If Jimmy gets dealt, that means more money you have to give Petr...

If we can overtake Boston, which we are only 3 points behind, hell only 4 points behind Tampa, then I am not worried about Pit, Phl or NYI...obviously. Pav on one year deals is most likely what will happen....ESPECIALLY if Holland "fixes this mess" by signing an elite top line player and a legit top defender. No doubt, with someone like Stamkos (I know, unlikely) here, it would not only take a lot of pressure off Dats, along with less icetime taking pressure off his body, it would excite him (I believe) a bit more to stay a season or two more.... funny, someone mentioned in this or a different thread the fact that we all thought without a doubt that Suter and Parise (not as much) were dead to rights were coming here. Well, now fast forward to now, its ironic, we STILL need those two players (not the names but the type of player.) I think if Holland landed Stamkos and Yandle it would go a LONG way to fixing this mess...of course that would push out more than just KFQ...we'd need some hard cuts.

Which one would be more coveted by another team is the million dollar question. Smith's experience or Marchenko's potential?

With the resurgence of Howard and Petr coming back down to earth, I can see Holland holding on to Jimmy for another season. The mentioned resurgence will also help in re-signing Petr to a more modest bridge deal. As long as Jimmy plays the way he has been, I don't mind him staying, if it keeps Petr's salary down. I'd say $8M for both would be a great deal.

Thoughts on Max Jones? ...also, wouldn't it be crazy s*** if Detroit got that #1? It could happen, but of course it's very unfavorable. That is, if we miss the playoffs...

Keeping with the theme that Abby is a top 3 player (debatable) I would still like to see this: Larkin - Z - Abby AA - Dats - Manth Nyquist - Sheahan - Tatar Helm - Richards - Glenny ...not dissing anyone with any kid of demotion, I would just love to see Dats with AA...plus AA and Mantha had great chemistry in GR. Doesn't mean it'll translate into the NHL, but I would like to see that line be experimented with.

Even though he hasn't played, I think just spending time and practicing with the "big club" is providing great experience for Jared. Honestly, he could still practice with the team all he wants, even though he was "sent down." He could've been sent down on paper....remember Andersson actually played a game for Detroit after he was put on waivers. Weird CBA rules... I fully expect (if Howard is dealt) that Coreau will get a serious, SERIOUS look at being Petr's backup next season.

I say we should acquire Stamkos..... seriously, I think if they can get 7 more wins or any combination of 14-16 points they should make it. It's all a crap shoot though, even if they get 7-8 more wins and so does everyone else, it's going to be rough! Although, right now, if everyone got 14 more points, we'd still be in. I would love to see them rattle off 5 wins in a row and take some pressure off.
