He is. That's why he has the job. But sometimes calling the time out stops the momentum even if it gives the opposing team the break. Maybe Granto regrets taking their timeout and stalling the momentum plus giving Detroit a longer rest. I understand what you're saying, but sometimes the message sent outweighs the extra rest for the other team. If it doesn't work, so be it, but it just makes sense to try to settle the team down. Rangers, Montreal, Buffalo, all games we let them back in the game in the 3rd. I'm just saying I'd like to see the coach use it as a tool more often in these situations.

Well, when the team is running around and losing control of the game, blowing 3 and 4 goal leads, taking bad penalties, doesn't it make sense to call it and settle them down? I just want to see coach make that move when nothing is working. That's one of the things it's used for.

If either of those two fall to us (hopefully we're drafting in the 20's) let alone to the 2nd or 3rd rounds, then avoid them by all means! I just felt that, and this isn't the first 3rd period debacle,a TO was needed to reset everyone. No word's needed to be spoken, except maybe "settle the f*** down!" then walk away from them and let them think about it for the rest of the 30 seconds. I like Lalonde, and his staff for the most part, except I HATE the stupid drop pass on the PP! But I have been and always will a Igor Larionov as coach guy. He may never come to the NHL though. I would just love to see him institute the old Soviet Red Army way of practicing and playing. At least a Red Army influence on playing style. Even if he came here to as an Associate Coach to run the offense and PP. Maybe Tanguay or Boughner will get HC offers one day and positions will open.

I'm gonna add coaching. Yes it's better than what was there in the Blashill Era, but in that 3rd period The Wings were on their heels, and not even just a little. When Montreal scored the 3rd goal, after as bad as Detroit was playing, there should've been a timeout called. Not to come up with a play, but to just calm them down, stare at them, and let them understand that they are going to give this game away if they don't calm down. The game was unraveling and low and behold, it wound up tied. They're damn lucky they didn't lose. Why hold on to the timeout? It makes no sense! Call the TO, reset and maybe the 4th goal doesn't happen.

If we have the same refs, we're f***ed.

I agree. But if we're in the playoffs, we probably won't be making any deals for picks. Kane will be our big acquisition, but only because most players are playing really well. Veleno, Fabbri, for example, are contributing like we'd hoped they would be, so why ditch them? If anything Yzerman identifies some flaws now and makes an early deal. Kostin seems to be screwing up, but he's easily a 13th forward. Definitely need to figure out which goalie is going to go soon. Maybe they ride Lyon for awhile and see if he is a legit #1 before a decision is made. Buy this is Steve Yzerman, 2am deals out of nowhere could be queueing up as we speak!
