The only thing to complain about, and rightfully so, is the skyrocketing salaries for average players. It seems you have the Elite ($8M-$10M) then the bottom ($2M or less) and then for some reason you have everyone else making $3M-$7M and most not really deservng it. I konw the market dictates it, but in no real world does Abby deserve the same amount of money as a Nyquist. Nyquist is a 50+ points per year scorer, I can never see Abby getting above 30 too many more times, if ever again, heck I even thought $4.75M was a bit much for Nyquist so soon, I was kind of hoping for a bit less for a couple of years, then the bigger money. If you ask me, $3.5M is the top of the heap for players like Abby, if not a bit less but no more. But, I digress because we are living in an NHL world that says KFQ and Erection are worth nearly $5M....that's my complaint, we've gone through 2 lockouts to get a reign on these contracts, but you sure cannot tell by looking at most of them.

I am a huge Mrazek slappie, but for me, I say keep it going like this for as long as possible. I know we won't have the most expensive tandem next year, but if Petr doesn't take over, it'll still cost less to re-sign him than if he did. We need all the cap space we can muster for a run at a legit #1 defender next summer.

Well, trade for him or not I think the Wings shoud HIGHLY pursue him (or re-sign him if acquired) in the Summer. He will probably be the most sought after UFA defenseman and will probably cost a lot of money. BUT, since we haven't heard much about Franzen, I got a feeling that his $3.9M may be opening up and Richards probably won't be re-signed, so there $6.9M right there to start with, find about $2M or so more and we could be in the running!

I really love the practice/amateur Hockey facility concept. Who the hell made the schedule this season? Aren't there 29 other teams in the league? Here we are a month into the season and we're on our 12th game and we've played the 'Canes 3 times, Sens 2 and now Tampa 2. I just don't know what they were smoking...

I really hope that McKee becomes the player Holland hoped he would become when he drafted him, could use that type of player here...but sadly, you would think that if he were making the correct strides, he probably would've already signed a pro contract and been in GR. I still say it won't take Mantha. Look at all the pending UFA's that were traded last season, it didn't take that much to move them. Even Kessel didn't garner a TOP prospect and he wasn't even a pending UFA. No team is looking to overpay for a player they may not even retain after July. The ONLY way it'll cost a player like Mantha is if Holland doesn't care if he loses Byf or Mantha and just wants to outbid all other teams. Unless another team has an inside track or is aobut to negotiatie a deal to sign Byf, I cannot think of one team that would give away a 1st, roster player AND one of their top 3 prospects just for a rental, no rental is worth that, unless, like I said, he commits to a contract the same day he is acquired. I still maintain that Helm, Sproul (or XO) and a 1st would be plenty to obtain him, it may even be overpayment and a ton to lose if Byf walks after July. Especially if the Wings don't get their act together, that 1st rounder may be a good one.

Hoping for a win tonight! Regarding our schedule and hitting the panic button...I thought about this last night, there is always that ONE team every year that is a bottom dwellar and yet still has our number, ex. Florida last season (even though they turned it on a bit later on) but usually your schedule against teams is spread out so much that you aren't playing them every week. This year, obvioulsy Carolina has our number (even in the 1st meeting) and if those 3 games were spread out over 4-5 months the losses wouldn't look so bad, but the fact that we've played them 3 times in three weeks basically, it magnifies the fact that this team has our number and makes our w/l record seem worse... I am not saying the Wings don't have issues, because they did lose to Calgary, Edmonton and Ottawa as well, but I just believe that even though 6 lossess to 4 teams is stil 6 losses, it looks worse than it is because we just happen to hit that team that has our number and have played all the game against them in 3 weeks. After saying that, I certainly hope they pull one out tonight so we can start turning this thing around and don't get so far down that we are counting on Pav/Rich/Green to be our saviours when they just aren't going to be that. They well all help this team to be better, but labeling them that way and expecting that much is putting a ton of pressure on them and us as fans will be set up for a major disappointment. This team needs a shot of something to get back on the right track before these guys get healthy, at least better than .500. IF and it's a big IF, If they haven't gotten this ship righted by december, I certainly hope they explore trade option before it becomes too late to crawl out of the hole.

Kopitar would cost at least $8.5M I would think. He is at $6.8M right now, IF he wanted to be a Wing I don't think he fact that he was a fan would factor into the money he would accept from Holland. That would be a score of the century that is for sure! Why not we trade for him? Now if we're talking Kopitar, I have no issue including Mantha in a huge package.
