Going into training camp, Detroit is the only team over the cap and the highest payroll in the NHL.... Even burying Cleary and dumping Andersson only gives a little relief...guess it's those top quality defenders making all that money! E, Q, K, Smith are ALL overpaid for what they bring. Not to mention Howard and Franzen wasted money. Highest paid team in the league and mostly bottom 6 players and 4 or 5 C to D level defensemen, along with a VERY average goalie making $5M+... Holland likes his players, how come it seems all other teams can dump players for picks or futures and then still remain VERY competitive and Holland just cannot seem to or want to dump useless players, even if it means just waiving them... I know Pav's $7M will be off the books to start the season, but it still doesn't help having such a high payroll for a limited skilled team. I guess I could be over analyzing it, but it just seems odd how other teams have 3-4 players making $8M-$10M+ and they are a lower cap team, yet still MUCH better than the Wings. I think Holland overpays below average players.

barring significant injuries, I expect to challenge for top spot in the east. Right away our PP is beyond better with Green. If we had had a quarterback like him last season, it would've been way different. I also expect a deeper playoff run. I can't see a team that can beat us in the east honestly. Tampa took 7 to do so, maybe Montreal? I expect ECF at least. Plus we had a great record against the West last season, with the additions of Green and Richards along with a couple players looking to stay hot, we may just be surprised this season.

yep, but PASS sports was mid 80's at the earliest and lasted until to late 90's. March 27th, 1997 game was actually a PASS sports broadcast. for those of you that think Datsyuk in his prime was better in any way than Fedorov in his prime need to watch again. In the 90's (rules) Datsyuk would have never been given any room to do what he does with all the clutching and grabbing that was allowed and if Fedorov got to play in todays free wheeling game in his prime, he would be putting up Gretzky numbers. Either way though e are/were blessed to have had such great teams!
