    Moving Jimmy Howard

I said next year. This year is fine, but next year you may have a backup making $5M...

    Moving Jimmy Howard

I have been and will continue to be in Mrazek's corner... anyone know how many giveaway goals jimmy gave up when Franzen was on the ice? I kid, I kid! like I said before, I am good with the tandem this year, I just fear the potential cap hit starting next year, or having a $5M backup...

seems like even more hockey writers are wondering the same thing. Could be some substance to this idea. http://spectorshockey.net/nhl-rumor-mill-august-29-2015/

    Moving Jimmy Howard

Kip, I can't find the article, but I think you're right, I do believe it said high end forward prospect as well. i am all for having the tandem this season, but i am not all for having $8-$10M tied up in both of them next season.

    Moving Jimmy Howard

how soon folks forget 9-1 in a ten game stretch, even playing inconsistent. Why is 17-3 out of the question? agree, but Lundquist plays most nights, with $8M in Detroit you are going to have $$$$$ sitting on the bench every game. You going to pay Petr $3+ to start 15 games? Pay Jimmy $5M+ to start 15 if Mrazek wins the job?

    Moving Jimmy Howard

if you don't have anything to add to the conversation or are here just to troll, then move along. if you remember, last season when the rumors about Hall being traded went around, an Oiler reporter named a few teams and players that would get a trade done. Detroit was named and the return was Sheahan, Sproul and 1st round pick for Hall & Petry. So laugh all you want, but if that would have been enough then Jimmy, Smith, Sproul and a pick is more than enough for Hall. But by all means, troll along. BTW, Hossa has 3 Cups since we signed the other guy instead, he is still top line material and would be here scoring 40 goals playing top 3 sniper role. Fact.

    Moving Jimmy Howard

I am sure glad someone else made this thread and not me! Jimmy WILL be moved before 16-17, unless Mrazek totally takes a crap fest this season (which I highly doubt,) because solid tandem or not, Holland cannot and will not have over $8M (at least) tied up in his goalies. And that is IF Mrazek re-signs for only $3M. If he wins 25+ games and takes them into the 2nd round at least, I see him getting closer to $4M. NO WAY will Holland have that much money tied up in goalies. For all you Holland slappies out there (and even me from a financial standpoint) you better hope that Howard outplays and keeps his starting job all season and limits Petr's starts to 20 or less. That way, Petr may re-sign for something around $2M, which could keep Jimmy around for another season. But then again, if Petr goes 17-3 or so in those 20 starts and Jimmy DOES re-gain his #1 form, that could mean more in return for him next summer. Either way, as Mrazek continues his progression the way he has been, Jimmy's days are dwindling, that is the truth. Lets just hope we can get great value for him when it comes times to trade him....and he cooperates by listing 10 or so teams he will or won't go to. In Edmonton, I would love to see him Packaged with Smith and Sproul and a pick (or maybe a young forward) to acquire one of their scorers (Taylor Hall maybe.)

    Dan Cleary re-signing still possible?

to be fair, I never mentioned names outside of Cleary...and I only used an example to make the point that if it can be hoped and expected for one player to return to better days, it is no out of the realm to hope and expect Cleary to do so...maybe that is why he keeps getting a contract and why Holland and company hold out hope for him, just like they keep and hold out hope for another player... So my comment was 100% on topic. Commenting as to why maybe Cleary still may be offered a contract to try to prove he can still play...isn't that what the other player you mentioned, Kip, is trying to do? Honor his contract and prove to himself and the organization that he might be able to contribute to this team? In this case and topic, both players are 100% comparable as well as hoping neither hang on too long and cause more deserving prospects to be lost to waivers, which by some of the other comments in this thread is a concern if they keep Cleary, "need room for the kids" "GR is already over flowing..." just to quote a couple. So in your head, Kip, its OK to tell Dan it's time to hang them up, you are impeding the kids, you are washed up, will never regain your 2009 career, yet when it comes to another player, it is asinine comments? Why? Just because you like the other player and not Danny? These situations are exactly the same and my comments are 100% on topic in this thread.

    Dan Cleary re-signing still possible?

I would be very upset for sure! But there is another player who's name can be inserted in place of Cleary's and it would all mean the same...hasn't been useful in 3-4 years, its not 2009 anymore, at one point was a good locker room guy, just showing up to collect a paycheck...yet, everyone thinks this player will somehow channel his old self and return to his glory days! I don't want either of them on this team, but for arguments sake, why is it not out of the realm of possibility to think that Cleary could also channel his old self? I doubt it will happen, just like I doubt the other player will either...at least there is mention of sending Cleary to GR to avoid losing a prospect to waivers for him....again...or will he?

now we can sign Franson for the same, trade Q for pucks. I know, I know...but I'd rather have him than Q.

I honestly don't believe Messier should be up for both Edmonton and Rags... I also think Adam Graves should be up for the Rags.

Hey, Warren Young outscored Yzerman that year he played here. He had a great season before that and a solid season here. Hell, players now-a-days scoring that amount are getting $5M per season! I know inflation, but damn, could you imagine a player who has 2 above average seasons, what kind of contract he may get just to disappear for said entire contract? Hell, he would get at least 11 years with at least a $3.9M cap hit...

Whether or not players USED to be afraid to play against Franzen...they aren't now, nor have they been for about 6 years. He was never a "power forward" and now he isn't even a "soft Euro." He is nothing. He will cause us to lose players for the next 5 years just so he can "try" to play...players who may not be superstars, but players who deserve a roster spot over him for sure.

Number One Center vs. Number One Defenseman

Put it this way....if you have a stud offense and score 7 goals a game, you aint gonna win if your D gives up 8. If you have a stingy D that only allows 1-2 goals a game, an average O can put up 2-3 goals most nights to win. D all the way...but it would also help getting that stud O after that!

LOL at you Kip....I guess you should've kept watching, even your first 4 goals, I saw ONE that was a quick dig out of the goalie pads for a goal, but it was hardly a dirty power forward goal. The rest were mostly finesse, empty net, wrist/snapper shots from the slot. Good try though...I will give ya the one maybe another later on that resembled a "dirty" power forward type goal, but in reality it really wasn't. I will add, though, that all of those goals were scored before his "serious contract" in which, as in most cases, he earned then decided to take the rest of his career off to collect the money. He hasn't come anywhere NEAR that player since he re-signed. He should give money BACK to the Wings.

LOL, TRUE? power forward...find us a goal of his where he even came close to battling and scoring a dirty goal while being a "beast" in front of the net. I will give him his scoring props back in the day, but even at his size, he was never a power forward, he was always a finesse scorer from the slot. Calling him a power forward is an absolute insult to the likes of the REAL TRUE power forwards in the NHL. Backes? Power Forward. Franzen, NEVER, EVER and NEVER...
