yikes! From a financial aspect, do we still want Petr to win the starting job this year? If he does, and wins, lets say 35 games, and gets us at least to the 2nd round, does he deserve $6M as well?

Remaing RFAs to be signed - Jurco, Pulkkinen, Aubry
LeftWinger replied to e_prime's topic in General
I honestly feel Jurco can be at least a part time top 6 guy. Throughout his career, he has shown that he has a scoring touch (until Babcock put him on the 4th line with grinders that is.) Like I mentioned earlier in this thread, if he proves himself consistent enough to keep at least 3rd line minutes he should be able to prove that he can top 20 goals. I also mentioned that he could possibly become a net front presence on the 2nd PP unit (like Abby on the 1st.) I think that he has a big enough body (heck even Homer was too big) and good enough hands (especially from some of the vids I've watched of him) that he could get some good deflections and garbage type goals there. I sure hope that he is close to signing a deal and a 2 year deal would be awesome! For him, I he can net 20+ goals for two seasons, his raise would be more significant, and for Holland because it gives him a little cap relief to re-sign the RFA's next July. Thank you MOD's. -
$1.1M nice cap hit though...

Brilliant! I didn't even notice the crowd until the 2nd time I looked or it! Awesome! I was searching hard for the famous Hudler face or Doan face, but still absolutely brilliant! -

naewin, I feel Jurco was way underused last season. I also feel that given consitant 3rd line minutes, and possibly given a shot at putting his bigger body in front of the net on the 2nd PP unit, he too can be a 20+ goal scorer... Not sure if was reported by Chuck Pleiness just tweeted that Jurco is NOT close to signing a two year deal, PLUS he just hired a new agent which could prolong things... I wish I had the ability to cut and paste on here, but he tweeted it and Malik re-tweeted it as well. -
I was wondering why Wayne knew so much about our organization! But, even if Wayne said it, I would still agree!

Its hard for a player like him to try and figure out his scoring touch when he is delegated to 4th line minutes...he only average just over 9 minutes a game in those 34 games, and if he takes 15-20 shifts a game, that's about :30 a shift average. No way he gets that little under Blashill, unless he fails to produce with more icetime... -
I hate seeing this too, Yzerman did much of the same when he left...he must not have been too good though, haven't you heard, Pulkkinen stinks, Nestrasil was no big loss, we won't miss Jarnkrok anyhow... I am just joking, if he were anywhere near part responsible for recommending Kenny draft any of those listed players, he will, sadly, be missed and unfortunately be a help to the Leafs...I wonder if got some sort of promotion to go to the Leafs?

Jim Devellano on Mantha's play: "Very disappointing"
LeftWinger replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
So he broke his leg in training camp, took extra long to get back to 100% (if he even got there) and then he still tallied 33 points in 62 games, and you are saying despite all this, he still should've held down a "top spot" in the AHL and therefore he is a bust and a disappointment? I think you, amongst other put way too much expectation on these kids...Mantha, disappointing, Pulk, sucks too one dimensional, who's next, Larkin? AA? I mean come on, they all aren't going to step right in to the next level without developing more...may as well trade them all. ...is it too soon to say tank it? We have no future, close the franchise. -

Jurco - Sheahan - Pulkkinen has the ability to be an awesome line! I always fill out my line combos that way, I would love to see it and love to see them excel into the next level together! -
It's a good hire for sure, totally out of left field. They have to end the streak without a Cup soon, don't they? It's got to drive leafs fans nuts seeing teams like Tampa and Anaheim doing so well and getting so much attention from the powers in the NHL when they have been around since the dawn of sport basically...trust us leafs fans, we know the feeling over alienation.

Does Sarcasm or Bulls*** count?

Its clear that they are trying to build something in Toronto that is comparable to what Detroit had in the front office back a few years ago... ...but I am sorry, all respect to Babcock, but when he got off the bus and he had Ken Holland, Scotty Bowman, Jill Nill and Ryan Martin he was walking with, it just doesn't compare when you replace those guys with Shanny, Lou, Mark Hunter and Cliff Fletcher.

So there it is, if Pulk doesn't outscore Pavel this upcoming season, he is not good enough to keep. Just so we know the score and where you stand. ...and no, I am not those other users, careful though, you may have just offended those two by saying they are me! -

UH.....so you didn't use Pav's stats last season in a discussion talking about Pulk's season and where he projects to be? You may want to re-read your post, or edit it, because when the discussion is Pulk is a 1-dimensional player and he should be able to put up points and you come in a say in that discussion, that Pav is a 2-dimensional player and he put up 26 goals as a 36 year old, and then go right back to talking about Pulk as a player, it sure sounds like you are comparing the two players. if that was not the point, then it sure read like it. -

To compare Pulk season last year to Pavs season last year is just funny. Maybe compare Pavs FIRST 31 games to Pulks, even though Pav played on perhaps the greatest team in NHL history, may be a closer comparison. Yes, Pulk is hopefully a top 6 player, hopefully a top 3. If indeed he cannot become a little more 2-dimensional, then I agree, he won't be as good as some of us hope, but I still believe if he plays with two very defensively responsible players, his one dimension wont be that bad of a thing. Especially if he (down the road) puts up 40+ goals. I am not saying he will, nor am I comparing him to Hossa, but we haven't had that in a long time. That being said, I agree with you, he needs to be at least a little better 2-dimensional, even Hossa learned to do that. -
Well, he has a great history with the Devils....but they haven't been tearing up the league too much since forever...Maybe he can trade for Kovalchuk.

I suppose if indeed Franzen is also out come opening night, sure he probably has a real good ( I almost wrote realgud) chance to play some games here to start. BUT and this is a big BUT, would Holland waive Andersson (and to a lessor extent, Ferraro and Callahan) and risk losing him (I know, not a big loss, but he is good for injury fill ins) when he can send Larkin down with no risk? Of course we already know, barring a trade, eventually the cap issue will need to be dealt with when Pav (and Franzen if he's out) gets back. So these guys may have to be waived anyhow, but if Pav is out longer and Franzen never gets back, is it worth losing these guys for good when Larkin can come and go as he pleases without risk?

Wait, was Pulk just compared to Datsyuk in regards to point production in order to support the reasoning that he stinks? ...Ok then. Well, IF the package of Pulk and Ouellet would get us Buff, it may be worth the gamble IF its done now (so we have Buff the entire season and not just a one month rental) and having him for the entire season may just get him liking the organization enough that it gives us a better chance at signing him. But, it still creates a huge logjam next season at D, because now you have 5 out of 6 positions filled longer term (Kronner, Ericsson, Green, Dekeyser and Buff.) Add Smith and Kindl to that mix for their one more season and you have zero room for 3 more of your kids. Sure Kindl could be dealt with, but I just don't see how Holland could make it work beyond just being a rental...and now we are talking no thank you for a one season, or worse, a one month, rental. Not at the price of Pulk and Ouellet. I know Pulk and Ouellet are yet to be proven just how good (or bad some say if he doesn't outscore Datsyuk) they will be, but unless Holland can move a roster defenseman or two, it wouldn't make sense to do it. He'd have to move the likes of Kindl, Ericsson and Smith as well as trading Ouellet for Buff just to have enough room to re-sign Buff and keep the kids losses to a minimum...or trade more of the kids instead of waiving them. Kronwall - Buff Dekeyser - Green Sproul - Marchenko Jensen I just don't see how it would work beyond a rental, and I think trading your kids, especially Ouellet in this case, for a rental, would not be worth it. Because next season, not only do you not have Buff, but you also do not have Ouellet. -

I agree. I have really tapered off on bashing him, I really have. But sometimes no one can even critique anyone without that kind of backlash. -
I think it is because of the CBA rules when his contract was signed...no matter what he does outside of LTIR or play out his contract, Detroit would be hit with the recapture penalty...silly, I know.

That's fine and understandable, I just figured he would want to take his time getting back to top 6 role, instead of jumping into the fire and getting his head knocked in within the first 10 games. Either way, he either gets 13th forward minutes or goes on LTIR or gets his head noodled again or plays well enough to stay in the top 6... -

Amen brother, Amen...Heaven forbid someone have an issue with a Red Wings' player...oh the travesty! You may as well go root for the Flyers, or the new Las Vegas Craps... -
No Flashy, if it were Franzen who were claimed off waivers, I would not shed a tear, until he retired and it hit our cap hard...that is why I am conceiving that we are stuck with this guy until the very end, or LTIR...
