So. I'm really pulling for Cossa, but could this end up being a bad pick? How is Wallstedt doing? Also, looking at what's left of the Leddy trade to St. Louis, are we going to regret him trading that 2nd round pick (Raty.) I'm not going all John Scott here and questioning the Yzerplan, but Cossa hasn't looked good. Should we be scared?

God I hope not.

I tried to find a complete camp roster to start a thread, but all I could find was the prospects roster. There is this on their website, but it doesn't include Cameron Hillis (PTO) and I am sure there will be plenty more Camp Invitees than this roster shows. https://www.nhl.com/redwings/roster -

we all were! Lets hope our hype for Ed and Kasper is warranted this time!
-
It sure sounded nice at the time! Well, at least we still have Larkin and Berggren! Ugh!
-
This must've been the hypiest of hype for Zadina! I am just playing though, like I said, we ALL fell for the hype! Also, good call on Mantha! Most of us felt he was going to be the next 40+ goal scorer. Sheesh, I hope Yzerman's picks work out better than Holland's! Must remain cautious from here on out! No more over-Hype!

After reading through that long thread, I apologize because I was still pretty stupid back then, still complaining too much and yes, still having to endure my whole Tippet and Hague crap I put you all through. I also apologize, because it seems I was the first one to mention knabbing Zadina on page 1! In my defense though we ALL were interested in him and all pretty much said it would be a miracle if he fell to us! Also, for all the "I wish Holland would've drafted Hughes" talk I put out there now, it seems, throughout the thread, even though I do mention him now and then as one of the choices at D, I was all about Bouchard. I even bitched and moaned that if Holland drafted Hughes or Boqvist over Bouchard, it would be the same old Holland playbook! A playbook, it seems, that I was making up as the days went on! Again, apologies. But honestly throughout the thread, we all seemed excited of the chance to have Zadina to fall to us, but we were also hoping for a D with our first pick. We all loved Holland's 4 picks, Zadina, Veleno, Berggren and McIsaac. We still have three of them, Berg seems like the best of them. Which, of course, I was still on my anti-Euro rants back then too, in which I really, REALLY apologize for! I honestly think I was just becoming anti-Holland at the time. Thank Goodness Yzerman is here now! Thank Goodness that I changed who I was to who I am now. But, honestly, I did provide some quality entertainment for you guys! My draft day/Trade Deadline and UFA meltdowns were and always will be epic! Franzen/Hudler and Tippet/Hague will go down as some of the best (and worst) banter on this forum! Drafts are a crapshoot, we all know this. We ALL pretty much fell for the Zadina Hype, as matter of fact here is the thread about that!

Raymond at $6.5? I am not sure he has earned that, but if he does really, REALLY good this season, maybe. I saw talk about Mo maybe wanting a bridge deal (around 3x$8M) in order to cash in later on. I hope Yzerman can convince Claude and Mo to accept the 8 year deal now ($9.5M sounds great) because if he continues along his climb, in three years he will probably cost $12M+.

In a land of "could haves," it makes me wonder if Detroit didn't fall from 4th to 6th in the 2018 draft, would Holland have drafted Tkachuk at 4, or still taken Zadina since he was touted as the 3rd best player in the draft? I'm still so mad that he took Zadina over Bouchard and Hughes, when that is all they talked about was Defense, Defense, Defense! We all debated over 4 D-men primarily leading up to that draft, Hughes, Bouchard, Boqvist and Dobson. Some people kicked around some forward names, but I don't think anybody picked Zadina. Of course, at the time, he was touted #3, so maybe nobody thought they'd get him. I do remember a lot of folks were happy with the pick, even more so when they got Veleno later. Some "insiders" said Holland won the draft. I'm gonna go back to that thread and read through it.

We all (I'm guilty) should realize that good GM's and scouts know more than us. Holland is not a good drafting GM. Zadina fell for a reason. He was ranked 3rd, each player 3-5 taken has been better, these teams knew not to take him as he fell. Holland just thought he was getting a gift handed to him, knowing damn well the team needed a D at that spot. Players fall for a reason. Patrick, Wright and even Seth Jones to a certain extent for example. In their draft year they were all talked about being the concensus choice at #1. Holland just isn't that smart. His drafting, trades, and UFA signings set this team back a decade.

I'm not mad about the deal at all. Hopefully he works out. Being used to Yzerman, this has trade written all over it. You're right though, not much out there to get for those two. I'm hoping we're in the playoffs come TDL and we then try to upgrade the middle 6. Could you imagine the contract Holland would've given him?
-
I still hope Yzerman eventually packages Veleno and Fabbri (?) For a more needed forward.
-
I hope we package him for Boeser or Lafreniere.
-
Anybody watching the Hossa Farewell Game?
-
Good! That means Ottawa can have a mid-20's pick this year and we'll keep our Mid-teens.
-
Oh crap! My bad! When I looked at capfriendly, I followed his name over and must have seen Holl's age (31.) Ok, ya, he very well could be a great re-sign in 26!
-
Ghost will have Norris numbers and either get a new deal or get us a better asset. Petry will finish his career in Detroit. The only issue with this is, if you do all those deals and this is your 2026 D Corp, Walman is a UFA in 2026. Are you going to re-sign a 35 year old Walman?
-
Nah, the conditions are the later pick of Detroit or Boston 4th in 2025.
-
Well hell Blue! You called this one. Except the pick.
-
Tatar seems to be headed to Pittsburgh. Kane would definitely be a low risk, high reward type signing. I'd still rather make a deal for Boeser, if he is still on the trade block.
-
I say just trade him. We have players that are going to pass him (soon) on the depth chart. Get something of need for him. I'd package him and Fabbri for something.
-
Just saying that's a very expensive 6/7 no matter who it is. You don't sign (or in Maatta's case re-sign) someone at that pay to make them a #7 D. Holl and/or Maatta make too much for one of them to be sitting for the bulk of the season. Plus it's bad business, like I said. But sure, if we could make it work, it'd be nice.
-
V not gone....yet. I would package him in a deal for Boeser though. If it was possible.
