lol, 163rd consecutive sellout, Ken says...hey, if you guys buy tickets and don't feel like going, send them to me! Frickin fickle fans... oh, he is good, that's for sure, but I am not trading Sheahan over Helm. Offensive skills much better and we still have Glenny. IF a trade is needed, Helm is very tradable. I'd rather keep all if them though... -

that last penalty kill is a perfect example why Sheahan and Glendening are keepers. I can deal with Helm, but because of those two, Helm could be dangled in a trade and get us a higher return... -

Do we need a trade to get our offence going ?

Wingedwheel91 - I agree, and I am very critical of Holland, but as our kids develop and the GR and below kids get even better, the "need" for a trade gets less and less. But, if a deal comes up that is good for both teams and we are able to get a player for the playoffs, it would be interesting to see what transpires. I am usually not for rentals, but if Holland could get a pending UFA for a draft pick, then I wouldn't be against it. I am just tired of trading our future before we get to see them play. Let alone trading one of the players (Sheahan) who was a big reason we made the playoffs last season and a big reason we are where we are at now. It's painful sometimes to watch the D struggle, what do you expect with guys like Kindl, Quincey and Lashoff out there (noted that Lashoff is a very good #7 and his cap hit is very friendly towards that as well) but if the likes of Ouellet (which we are seeing now,) Sproul and Jensen are NHL ready, we won't have to deal with the crappy D too much longer. Hence the reason a "rental" for the playoffs this season (at the price of a pick or a mid level prospect) wouldn't be half bad. I just hate that most GM's are so jealous of Holland & Co. that they are allowed to attempt rape when it comes to trade proposals. A big reason I would love to see an arbitrator system put back into place. Last season Holland was desperate and overpaid for Legwand. I hope and pray, that this season is different and Holland isn't forced to give up any top level prospect in order to just make the playoffs. -

I find that Sheahan should be untouchable as well. If Nyquist is indeed a lifer, and I am fine with that, then the untouchable list should be this: (IMO) Mantha, Larkin, Nyquist, Tatar, Sheahan, Dekeyser, Ouellet, Sproul, Jensen, Mrazek, Athanasiou. I would be ok (just ok, though) with giving up Jurco, Helm, Marchenko, Backman, Frk, Callahan, Ferraro, Janmark, Nedomlel, Franzen (of course, but I know better) and Smith. Only, ONLY because we need to give up to get and we have such a log jam at good prospects coming of age. I am very cautious to put Marchenko and Nedomlel on this list because Marchenko being ranked our top D prospect (according to Hockey's Future) along with being right handed, and Nedomlel is a monster. I also like Jurco a TON and would be very upset to lose him, but again, if I am keeping Nyquist as a lifer, and he will get a SIGNIFICANT raise this summer, then there will have to be sacrifices. Just not Sheahan, PLEASE. -
Jensen is going to surprise a lot of folks. I just hope he earns a spot before he runs out of exemptions and we run into an "or else" situation...
-
I also wish capgeek.com would put the icon back up showing if a player is waiver exempt that he had during training camp. If anyone knows him on a personal level, ask him if that is possible to do. McKee a forward? Wow, that could be interesting. He a huge body that could become a net front presence. I know he sat a bit more than he played last season, so maybe this is a good thing to move him up.
-
Future Detroit Players: Oulette, Jensen, Sproul ( in that order) Possible Trade bait: Marchenko, Nedomlel, Backman(and these depend on waiver exemptions) Not including our "unsigned" draft picks... damn I missed Red Wings Central. Anyone have any news on McKee? Also, within the next three years of dropping Kindl and Quincey, I can see possibly Smith being dealt to make room for the three above. Along with keeping a Lashoff-type guy at #7. I doubt Ericsson gets traded, but I wouldn't mind that either. Kronwall - Ericsson Dekeyser - Jensen Ouellet - Sproul Looks like a good future to me.

just to add to that, not saying Holland shouldn't go after a D-man still, but do not "sell the farm" for one. If come deadline, a team is desperate to dump one for a draft pick then that is fine, but NO, NO, NO to trading our future. If we need to include a prospect, then fine, but even then the crop to pick from is limited. Pulkinnen, maybe. Backman, maybe. Ferraro, Callahan sure. But that is about it. Oh ya, another reason Nyquist would be more ideal to trade over Sheahan, he is a RFA this off season, he will for sure garner a HUGE raise. I know the cap is supposed to go up, but it will hurt giving this guy all of the increase...and he will be worth it on the market, so dangle him out there if you must, but I'd still rather just go forward with our guys and see who is desperate at the deadline. This year I hope it isn't Holland! (again!) -

just went back a saw the "trade" offer of Jurco, Sheahan, 1st for Yandle...... BLAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!!!!! WTF is this guy Shea Weber? Sheahan is untouchable IMO. Why would Holland trade Sheahan and keep Helm? We do NOT need Yandle that bad. I just assume continue along season with our mishaps on D and just promote our guys next season or see what can be had on July 1st. These guys are the sole reason the Wings kept the streak alive last season, they are a huge part of why they are where they are now. I know this is not a reputable source. but if Holland trades all that, especially Sheahan for Yandle, then this club in doomed. Sheahan is untouchable. PERIOD. Jurco is borderline untouchable. I don't know why Holland is so loyal (or lovesick) to the Swedes, but honestly if it came down to a choice (and we all know Holland's history of choices involving Swedes) I would choose to trade Nyquist over Sheahan. Why? Well, not that I want to trade Nyquist, but he would bring back the highest return, and although his offense is kicking right now, I believe we have two or three guys in GR that could replace that soon. Sheahan is a combination of speed, size and scoring. I prefer to trade Helm over any of the "kids." But hands of stone may not garner much of a return. If s*** is going to be that expensive, then just ride out the season (we aren't doing that bad (barring more injuries)) and promote within or sign a UFA. There are a nice crop of UFA d-men out there available this summer. Screw trading our established kids. -

any interest in Wisniewski? I know he has a modified NTC and would probably have to submit a list of teams or something, but instead of blowing the wad on a #2 guy, maybe spend a bit less on a better #3? Don't know, I am just looking at the bottom dwellers and seeing who may be looking to make a deal...speaking of bottom dwelling, WTF happened to Colorado? -

The emergence of Sheahan and Glendening has, unfortunately, made Helm the tradable asset. If he, prospect (fwd not named Larkin or Mantha) and a pick would get us, Green, Myers, Yandle, etc... then it's a no brainer. If the rumor is true, just a 2nd rounder for Green, it should be done today. Then they could also acquire Yandle for a trade package. That would cause a huge logjam next season though, an even worse when the kids are out of options. Jensen, Sproul, Oullet, Marchenko, Backman...sheesh, we got a lot of good prospects on D. We'd have to dump K, Q and possibly Ericsson. I could also see Smith being put in a trade package. -

I like how babe puts the twins back together to try to generate offense...then puts Franzen out there with them. Pointless... hey, we are sucking, but at least Tampa is losing, so now the slappies can still believe this team is actually playing like the NHL elite... -

it's not trolling. Its like in the other gdt, the wings are virtually even in points as last year and are showing similar signs they did last season that they did in December. this is what happens when you fail to make the team better. Ericsson, Quincey and Kindl amongst some of the worst D in the NHL. Sure Kenny tried, but he wasted his money on Q and should just waive K. Ericsson should be gone as well. But Kenny failed to bring in good players. -
