Weiss sent down to GR- conditioning assignment
LeftWinger replied to Nyquistfan14's topic in General
You said it...wow. This guy is damaged goods, there should be a clause in contracts that state if you continue to fail physicals or cannot play an extended amount of time for so many years in row, your contract can be voided without penalty. He was hurt when he came here and hasn't been able to play hard since. I like the guy and would love to give him a chance, but at what point do you wash your hands and put him on LTIR? He has got to be the highest paid player in the NHL when you break down his pay per minute played...sometimes you win in UFA, sometimes you lose...I am about ready to chalk this up to a loss. -
and this is not a bashing Nyquist thing....if you krsmith want to get technical about first season in the league, in Nyquist's first 40 games in the NHL he only had 13 points prior to him hitting on all cylinders last season, lets gice Nesty a chance to get his feet wet for a bit. Nobody is calling him the next Yzerman or even the next Nyquist (btw, calling Nyquist a future ELITE player is really pushing it, that would mean he will be up there with Crosby, Malkin and Stampkos...not happening.) And Jesusberg, regarding Mule, he has had years to get his feet wet, he is what he is and nothing better. He is not the difference in us being Cup contenders and not being Cup contenders...You let it go, he will never be that impact player that Holland was hoping for when he chose to let Hossa walk...BTW Mule had 5 points in 1 game before, hasn't changed the type of player he has turned into. Nesty is doing just fine in his rookie campaign and does not deserve to be waived after only 9 games. It would be different if he had waiver exemptions, then yes, maybe send him back down to hone his skills some more, but no way is he bad enough to be put on waivers. Jeez, give him a chance to prove something rather than condemn him to waivers after 9 games on the 3rd and 4th lines playing with checkers...

The thing about Abby in the top 6. He is good, but no doubt Datsyuk and Zetterberg make him look better. This goes to show that yes, if you put someone on their line, they will perform better. So all the guys who are maybe struggling elsewhere that we have all talked about signing or acquiring, would indeed re-discover their scoring playing with the Euro-Twins. I believe included in that would be Heatley and Iginla as well as Semin, etc...speaking of which, is Heatley hurt? I noticed he has only played in one game. Iginla is right up there in scoring on Colorado, but he cannot be enjoying being in last place... Oh well, I just hope Abby keeps this up and Franzen returns in tip top shape. That could only be a better thing for us!

Nesty will be fine....I seem to remember a certain Nyquist not doing too much last season until January then he lit up the league. Not saying Nesty is going to light up the league, but lets give him some time to get acclimated to the NHL. I'd rather be paying Nesty his small contract for his production than paying someone $5.5M for he same production. Besides, Nesty is an RFA this off season, you don't want him lighting up 30 goals and then have to pay him $4M as well as Nyquist do you? I'd rather him have a learning season in the NHL and then get a modest pay increase in the off season. When Weiss returns, he is either going to bump Jurco (waiver exempt) down or Cleary, or he just may waive that NTC in order to get top playing minutes elsewhere.
-
Speaking of when Franzen comes back, if you ask me, I think we all can agree that Cleary is the one that should be waived instead of Nesty or Jurco being sent down...Now in that scenario I would welcome Franzen back with open arms!

Sorry Brant, for some reason I cannot "quote" a post and it slipped my mind who wrote that. From now on you will be known as THE User! Just kidding! SJR I agree! Smith and Gus will, but man that is going to make things tight! We got a few more kids out of options as well...another reason I sure wish they only gave Q one year and if they can somehow dump K's salary I will feel a little less uneasy.
-
Franzen is not worth his cap....speaking of his cap, with the way Nyquist is playing last year and so far this year, he is going to command a bigger cap hit than Franzen...then what do we do? I think Holland has to pay him. Smith is steadily improving as well and he is an RFA. He will command at least Q money. Things are going to get interesting!

I was just commenting on the user who said put Franzen in and we will be dangerous. I simply said Franzen would not make a difference when he comes back and if he isn't going to make a difference it would suck to bump a more deserving player out of the lineup. I guess the answer lies when he does come back if he can go back to what he was doing. I hope he does. He, Z and Nyquist were gelling together pretty good. I will welcome that back as long as it doesn't screw up the rest of the lines. Lets hope he returns and becomes the offense and the PP cure. I hope he is, but I still am on record saying that he won't be. Anyhow, lets not turn this nice win into a Franzen debate! It was nice to see our guys playing together and getting some chemistry going. Still not impressed with E or K. Q looked alright.

I do hope Franzen gets back soon...so I can read all the folks in all the GDT's calling him out and complaining about him. He has to be the one guy that everyone loves when he is scoring and everyone hates when he isn't. He does not fool me...never has. I said it before and will say it again, I don't care if he scored 100 goals in 20 games, because he is going to disappear for the next 30 and then get injured. I appreciate when he scores, but I am not going to be a fan of his ever, because of the "vacation's" he takes from consistency. And he is replaceable. The last 5 games have proven that.
-
Manxy, how many chances does Franzen need? We've been giving him chances since 2009. I hope he comes back and score 5 points every 4 games, but in the end we all know that is not going to happen. I would take Jurco and Nesty over Franzen all day. But, some folks are still holding on to a 2008 Franzen that will never appear again. He's too fluffy now and he's never been anywhere near 2008 Franzen since he signed his "serious contract."

Andersson has his role, and plays it. Nestrasil is a rookie and plays his role very well....Franzen does not play his role, unless playing his role means, get a bushel of points in 3 games, then take 10 off, then get hurt. I give him credit, he was doing pretty good. I was hoping this could be the year he returned to some kind of form...but then he got injured...again. No doubt, he can score when he plays 100% and is healthy, but he is a fragile doll today. That's all. IMO Nestrasil, Jurco and Andersson do the job they are asked of them night after night...Franzen not so much.
-
Jurco and Nesty have100X more energy than Franzen and actually have the other team turning around to watch them scrambling all over the ice. Franzen one dimensional and ALL teams know his inconsistencies... I am not denying the fact that before his well expected injury, he was playing good. I did praise him by saying one game "Who is this Franzen guy and what did he do with my Francine..." but that doesn't mean that he is going to bring anything more to the table that he doesn't normally bring. I guess I should have used the term IMO, he is replaceable. I happen to think that the chemistry that Jurco brings to this team with Tatar and Sheahan, is better than throwing Franzen in there to float around and put up 5 points in 4 games every couple of months...then get injured again. The team is cruising along no worse now than what it was with him in the lineup, and its not like he is going to return and put up 40 goals this season, he is not a difference maker. That is the tell-tale right there.
-
Franzen would not really make a difference when he comes back. The PP was horrible when he was in, and it still is. The ONLY thing Franzen is going to do when healthy is bump a more deserving player out of the lineup. I only mention him in response to someone above me saying put him back in and we will be dangerous. Franzen is more than replaceable with better players that are in our organization.

Yay! A win I actually got to see! I would still love to have a defenseman that makes a difference in the game, but a win is a win. Nice to see the powerplay is setting up well, all they need is a few goals and it will gain some confidence. Again, a defenseman who actually makes a difference would help there too...

that is an example when the ref who was right there and clearly saw that there was no contact should be able to override the call from the guy 80 feet away. It's pretty sad when Pierre even calls out the mistake...

Weiss sent down to GR- conditioning assignment
LeftWinger replied to Nyquistfan14's topic in General
good for Weiss to get some playing time. He will either get better to stay with us or get better and submit his list of teams... dudes, really? Are you actually surprised that Franzen is in the condition he is in? He is done. Even if he comes back and plays, he won't be 100% and he will get injured again. Nobody wants to see him for what he is...washed up. -

hell no to trading Larkin...just forget it. We already lost Jarnkrok for a rental. The only way I am trading Larkin in a package is if the name coming back is Weber or Suter...in other words, I am not trading him. This kid is legit. I am not going to trade him in the hopes that Myers refinds his game. It would be better to dump K and just promote Jensen for that right handed presence. No I am not saying Jensen is better than Myers, but its better to keep Larkin. Offer them Helm and Kindl, now we're talking.
