this whole scenario is baffling to me. Is he injured still? Not at 100%? Is he 100% and just crappy? Does Babs just not like him? I guess none of us will really know the truth, but IMO, he must be just wanting to take it slow in order to NOT re-injure himself again. If not, then you would think he'd be asking for Holland to trade him somewhere he will get to play...I cannot imagine he is just happy collecting a check and riding the press pine...not many NHL players strike me as that type. "Of course I have been known to be wrong....from time to time."
-
....but, we are stuck with what we have. No top 6 depth and now forcing perhaps the best 3rd line the in NHL (ok, that may be a bit of homerism) to be a 2nd line when they aren't quite ready for that. Thankfully dats is back tonight and maybe, just maybe Babcock can find a combo of linemates for him and keep Franzen and Nyquist on a line together with Franzen when he gets back. Of course, just inserting Dats with Z and Nyquist is going to be exciting to watch too!

Toronto Radio: Illitch is selling everything and Babs will be Leafs GM
LeftWinger replied to Wings_Dynasty's topic in General
I wouldn't mind if Draper became our GM after a while. So long as he proved good enough to take over. I am always on the fence with Holland and bash him a lot(right banned? ) but just when I think I cannot stand him anymore, he'll pull a rabbit out of his arse and reel me back in for a moment....until the next time he screws something up. But if Draper learned and showed that he had what it takes to make the hard decisions, I don't see why he wouldn't make a fine GM... -
No, I bash them a ton! But I did not bash any of them in that post. I actually included Franzen in my lineup, I said he should have waited to sign Q, instead of just bashing the signing. I pick and choose my bashing, but your response to my post had nothing to do with what I wrote. It was more so of an attack on me pretty much saying it doesn't matter what I write because all I do is bash bash bash. When in all actuality, even though I do talk crap about said players, I don't do it every chance I get. Another thing I do do, is I give them credit when they do things that are good for this team. Even though I do not like any of them, I can still appreciate when they do have that couple of good games...or shifts. I will never "like" Q, K, Cleary, Franzen, E or Howard, but it doesn't mean that I bash them in everything I write. edit: I do bash them when they have bad games or shifts...that is for sure! And it's not my fault that it seems that on any given game, one of those guys are having a bad game, so I love to point it out. But again, nothing in the post you responded to, did any of that.

Oh, I appreciate it for sure! And sometimes, no one gets to it, it happens. I am sure nobody felt disrespected in any way. I do remember a few years back that there were issues with too many people putting up GDT's and that is why it all settled to just a couple of user's doing it. I am sure you had all good intentions and by no means are you just a no one here. You are part of this LGW family and we all appreciate yours and everyone's efforts to bring a ton of fun conversations and debates here! Keep doing what you are doing! Like I said, I meant ZERO offense to you whatsoever and enjoy reading your posts on this forum!

Bannedforlife - Ok, so nowhere in that post did I BASH anyone except saying Holland made mistakes over the summer by panicking and signing Q way before he had to, NOBODY liked the Cleary promise and his lack of aggressiveness to address the top 6 depth because he was waiting and waiting to hear from Alfie...read...a failure. It's fine you have a good imagination, but you don't have to know what trolling is to understand that your post is an exact definition of it. Instead of commenting on ANYTHING I said, you decided to comment about me personally in an attack of some sort in an attempt to start a confrontation. Or maybe you really don't know what trolling, subtle or not so subtle, is...

Heatley and Iginla on a line with Datsyuk is far better than having Abby and Z on his line with no legit 2nd line. We weren't scoring any big name UFA either way, besides, have Heatley and/or Iginla is no more todays news that having Alfie back. So instead of waiting to hear...be more aggressive. Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Abby Alfie - Weiss - Franzen OR Heatley - Dats - Iginla Franzen - Z - Nyquist which one is better...

Hockeytown, I see what you did there! Praying Mantha, the whole point of "our" GDT is to enjoy the creative genius of the few guys that put all the effort into it. We appreciate the link to "all the data we need" but its just not the same. It's also not a race to see who can get the GDT thread up first. Again, it's well worth the wait to enjoy the creative efforts of the "regular's." No offense, but do you see what I am saying? That being said, I hope Dats is 100% and doesn't reinjure his shoulder! Lets go Wings!

Toronto Radio: Illitch is selling everything and Babs will be Leafs GM
LeftWinger replied to Wings_Dynasty's topic in General
Not sure how that works. Probably. I just find it hard to believe that they are selling anyhow. So, until the announcement comes via a Detroit source, then I think its just some talk show guy who is jealous his team aint worth jack in the league and he is one of those guys who gets off on knocking Detroit. IMO they can have Babcock. -
this is why Holland's off season was such a failure. Not that I wanted him to pay the prices other teams were asking for, but he could have been a bit more active in UFA. I get the Cleary promise, but he isn't playing anyway. He waited and waited for Alfie to make a decision...he is still waiting actually. He should have been looking for depth at the top 6. I know Dats and Z are lights out together, but I really think they would be doing much better for this team apart, with other legit scorers on their wing. The only reason they are kept together is they don't have enough top 6 talent to surround them on two line. Weiss has been a wash out (it happens) and now the Sheahan line is being forced to be a top 6 when they are best on the third, because a lot of other teams bottom 6er's can't match them. Now they are playing against other teams top 6 and it is showing a bit. I fully believe our 4 centers should be Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Sheahan and Helm with Andy in the press box for backup. It will be nearly impossible to get rid of Weiss, but that is fine if he is already destined for the press box anyhow. IMO, if Holland would have been a bit more aggressive July 1st and offered some more cash to the likes of Heatley and Iginla our top 6 would have been perfectly fine with Franzine going down. I mean they wouldn't be missing his output as much as they are going to do so now. I know the focus was on a RH defender, but when his first couple of targets went elsewhere, instead of panicing and re-signing Q for so much right away, he should have maybe turned focus on his offense and addressed Q in August when he would have cost less...or maybe he would have gone elsewhere, which wouldn't really had mattered. Again the Cleary promise is what it is...stupid, but it happened. I think, a full healthy lineup that looked like this would have been awesome. (also I know it doesn't mean the UFA's would have come here, or at the very least it would have cost a bit more cash.) Heatley - Datsyuk - Iginla Franzen - Zetterberg - Nyquist Jurco - Sheahan - Tatar Abdelkader - Helm - Glendening Ya, there wasn't enough roster room because of Weiss and Cleary, but that, again, is where Holland screwed up. Andersson and Miller in the press box rotating in and out. I know Nesty wouldn't be here, but he wouldn't have to be when all are healthy. I know its only a 23 man roster and this would have 24, but if push came to shove you can always find a home for Andy or Weiss. Heck, you may be able to waive Andy and he would probably clear. Then there is Cleary.... All hypothetical of course, since Holland...well...was Holland over the summer.

Toronto Radio: Illitch is selling everything and Babs will be Leafs GM

ever wonder if he is selling everything....to his son and daughter? There has got to be some sort of tax that Chris and Denise will have to pay if they inherit everything. If they sell it them "on paper" they could possibly avoid Uncle Sam sticking its nose where it doesn't belong. Plus it would keep the Crack Head son from trying to take part of the inheritance from Chris and Denise...just food for thought. -
Always sucks to lose someone to injury, but 99% of us knew Francine would be injured this year at some point...won't be the last time, and the injury(s) will linger throughout the season. How many years in a row have we heard "if Franzen were 100%..." ...not surprised.

another quick word on Glenny. His emergence along with Sheahan's would allow us to offer Helm in a deal for something we need. While Helm still has value. This team doesn't need all three, especially when Dats comes back to take up another center spot. Nothing personal against Helm... -

the thing about glenny is, its not Babcock who was right about him. He was a walk on at Michigan and played his way to being Captain of that team, to playing his way on to the Wings. Its Glenny who is right about himself. Hard Work and Heart can make up for a lot of things. Babcock had no choice but to keep him. -

no comparison...great goal by Z, but clearly your memory of Yzermans goal is losing it's luster. -

this settles it...Weiss has officially taken up residency in the Legwand/Modano/Commodore dog house. I almost cannot wait for Babcock to leave... -

He has been great...and that takes a lot for me to say. But he is too injury prone. Weird, ironic, whatever, but ever since he signed his contract...injured every year. -

Gretzky.

Babcock will turn the Leafs around...next year. Do you think he'll take Cleary with him for some veteran leadership?

twas only a matter of time before Johan went out with an injury...didnt think it would be this soon. appreciate his goals tonight. Kids are awesome. But u cannot believe someone earlier compared Q to Lidstrom.... Q isn't good enough to lick Nicks sweaty crack. Now if you want to say he is playing "solid" again, fine. But Lidstrom? Please...

fixed. Call him the Mule because he is an ass. He sucks. Twice he f***ed up that powerplay. What a waste of money and roster space.

******* Franzen is horrible! Anyone who thinks he is an important part of this team is seriously drinking the Zima...
