Targeting Green, Face to Face, Kick Tires, We Like Our Team...I agree with all of you, if Holland does acquire Green, it will be at a ridiculous price paid. Too much, I think, for any of us to like. I do like the fact that there is attempts to get a player to help this team, but after this disastrous off season, Green would just walk anyway. Why would he want to play here? He could take a lot less (or not be lowballed by Holland) to go to a team that has a better chance to win. Holland WILL lowball him next summer, Green WILL sign with a different team for cheaper or a bit higher because they are a better team. Unfortunately for Holland the UFA Extravaganza is more than over, so he needs to go back to acquiring the players via trade...and that means draft picks and players. You once traded one of your best playoff performers (Kozlov) for a gaping hole need (Hasek.) Make the move, up the ante a bit. Offer a NHL player in place of that top prospect. Helm, Franzen, Ericsson, Smith, Andersson...do not overpay, but you can sweeten the deal with a NHL regular rather than a top prospect.

Signed Wings re-sign Cleary $1.5 mill + $1mill in game bonuses
LeftWinger replied to anthonyn66's topic in General
So let me understand this... $1.5M, $250K signing bonus and $1M after 10 games played.... $2.75M? For Dan Cleary? Talk about a grossly overpaid UFA...Unless this is part of a grand plan, I am infuriated... -
Oh but Holland DOES give out overpriced UFA contracts....see Quincey and Cleary...BOTH overpriced. Waste of money, whether he has $1M in cap space or $100M...they are BOTH grossly overpaid.

Signed Wings re-sign Cleary $1.5 mill + $1mill in game bonuses
LeftWinger replied to anthonyn66's topic in General
Gee, I would have rather had Morrow for the $1.55M Yzerman signed him at, than cleary...of course I'd rather have an open position over cleary. Morrow, while in his elder years of NHL, is still twice the hockey player cleary is... Add him to the list of players that should be here over cleary. #firekenholland I tell you what, there better be a grand scheme here with all this nonsense signing...#fkq and cleary were/are two of the worst UFA's that were available, and I am not even letting my anger speak for me. -
Calling Professor Larionov, Professor Larionov, please report to human resources...

Signed Wings re-sign Cleary $1.5 mill + $1mill in game bonuses

someone needs to find the email for The Ilitch's...Iltich Holdings or whatever and email our disgust with Holland. God Damn I am so ******* tired of this bulls***! I cannot even speak right now...I am out....I cannot wait to have a BASH FEST all winter long. If I ever see Holland I am calling him out right in front of everyone! -
Signed Wings re-sign Cleary $1.5 mill + $1mill in game bonuses

I said that Cleary would get more than Heatley... f*** this team. f*** Ken Holland. I refuse to watch anymore games. I don't care if he acquires Shea Weber, I am done supporting this team until Holland is GONE! -
ARGH! Everytime I log on here I am dying to see Red Wings Sign [missing need] or Red Wings Acquire....all this targeting and face to face meeting and off season needs is getting me riled! Ok, I know, but man I am just jonesin for Holland to make the right move(s) this summer! and why the hell is Morris still unsigned!?!? Doesn't anybody want him?
-
No, please no! No more Jiri Hudler references!!! We already had Hudler 2.0 in Brunner, now if Frk can become a grittier, hungrier Hudler....ARGH! I can't take it! I thought I was rid of the little Pidler forever!!! Ok, seriously though, Frk is 6' 205lbs already...Pidler is 5'10" 185lbs soaking wet, so Frk has an advantage on him to start. I certainly hope he is better than Pidler by time he hits the NHL, if not, then may as well trade him today...projecting to be a Pidler type player is not exactly comforting to hear. I am glad after reading his profile on the other site, that Pidler is not mentioned once. Whew!

Euro....how do you KNOW he will be in GR?
-
Hey Kip, Gleason is from Michigan and he decided on a 1 year contract in Carolina...guess even home isn't that important when it comes to Detroit!
-
I hope he does not..that is for sure! I don't care if it was a 10 way contract which involved the Saudi Hockey League as a destination.
-
^ Wow... Ok then... So I don't KNOW anything, but if he does sign, I am 99% SURE it will be for more than $1M...considering Holland already overpaid #kfq by about $3M he is sure to give Cleary around $2M...
-
Holland isn't making a run at the Cup...that is the reason no quality UFA even considered Detroit. Holland is looking to fill holes and bits and pieces to keep competitive and keep the playoff streak alive...
-
Did Holland not want him or did he not want to come here? Would've loved the chance at Heatley for $1M...makes you shake your head even more at the #kfq $4.25M... Ducks look good this season...remember when we got the guy on a discount for one season all the time because we were always favorites? Ahhh...the good ol' days! Wouldn't mind giving Stempniak a contract instead of Cleary, hell I'd rather have Penner than Cleary. Funny thing is Cleary will get MORE than Heatley....and that there, my friends, is LAUGHABLE.

Kane & Toews Sign Identical 8-year, $10.5M AAV Extensions
LeftWinger replied to _SP_'s topic in General
Not sure if you knew this or not, but this is being discussed in the "Off season trades and signings" thread already. Not sure it needed its own thread, but the detailed info you added was a great read! Thanks! Please take no offense. -
Chances14 - I think the idea is if Garrison went for a salary dump and only garnered a 2nd, 7th rights to a player, then Washington's salary dump could get similar. I honestly think Ferraro and Almqvist's rights are worth more than the 7th and the rights Tampa acquired. The only sticking point is the 2nd. I would prefer a 4th, as long as its not our 1st. BTW, Niskanen and Orpik are Washington's jewels now, Green is expendable and basically a salary they need to shed. In most NORMAL salary dumps, you accept some depth players and picks, since you really don't want to trade salary for salary. Notice I said most NORMAL, we are after all, dealing with Ken Holland here and he has been known to overpay....from time to time!
-
No, I meant if Washington would take Ferraro, 4th and Almqvists rights for Green...sorry for the confusion there.
-
The 4th into a 2nd doesn't sound too bad if he re-signs. Although I sure would like to maybe add a player instead of that conditional pick...going to be a deep draft and having a 1st and 2nd next year will be like gold. Dats-Deke...that's not too bad for Garrison, wonder if they would take our 4th, Ferraro and the rights to Almqvist...

what it would take to get Trouba here would be too much. I would be happier just keeping Ouellet and Tatar and especially that 1st or 2nd pick. Besides, Trouba isn't really what we need here. I am not saying Green is the answer, but he addresses a pressing need and would cost tons less in assets. Plus he is still only 28, so if we get him to re-sign, we'd have him for 3-4 prime years. Not saying Trouba wouldn't be dynamic here, but the price in return would hurt us more in the long run AND he is just entering his prime (or not even yet) so that would be 6-8 years of him making $7M+ more than likely once he gets his next contract...he is good, even borderline approaching great, but I am just looking at a business aspect of it. Plus giving up those young players you pretty much waste all you high drafting for the last few years.

I agree Son of a Wing... Nobody wants our bottoms 6'ers for high end players in a rebuild, that is the only reason trading Datsyuk and or Zetterberg was brought up, IF Holland decided to go for a total rebuild, the only was we could trade for #1 picks or high end younger players would be to dump salary and all stars. I am not for this, I said it when I mentioned it before, I would rather win WITH Datsyuk, but even with our retooling, unless we can get some UFA luck next summer, we may not win another Cup with Pav. But, said unnamed user just reads "Trade Pav, Trade Z..." and resorts to bashing and attacking. No big deal, I've been bashed through the years...I can take it. Anyhow retooling is fine with me...if Green comes in, does what we need him to do, then re-signs, then losing Ferraro and a pick (if that is the deal, we don't even know yet) wouldn't hurt too much. And having Green here and re-signing could very well show some UFA's out there that Holland is serious about getting back to the top and maybe our UFA luck will change...I am hoping, because I am tired of being snubbed for whatever reason. Still makes me mad about #kfq though. Morris is out there, waiting, RH'd and better than #kfq and would have cost the same if not less...even if he cost a bit more, he is more of what we need. But if Holland is able to land Green for a good return, I can move a bit more towards the forgiveness isle...

Yes, I would say they screwed up. I guess this upcoming season is going to be their one window to win it all... As of right now, they only have $3.2M in cap space with only 15 players under contract. They most definitely will NOT be re-signing Richards. I believe Hossa's days are numbered there as well. They could very well lose Oduya as well. He is a UFA after next season and currently makes $3.375M. He will most definitely get a raise and they just don't have the space. Even if the axed Hossa's $5.2M that is only $8.4M with 14 players signed...kind of hard to get 10 players signed for $8.4M especially if you give Oduya the raise he will earn. (I would say at least $4.5M and that would be a home team discount.) I will take Hossa and Oduya from them whenever they are ready!

It's funny how a certain user (won't mention any name) cannot come on here without attacking others with snide remarks. There are three ways of going about this team, rebuild, retool or go for it. Go for it means, get the high end players you need NOW and try to win NOW, retool is to keep a core group of players and try to keep competitive enough and hope one day you can make it to the finals and maybe win, rebuild is to dump high end players and salaries in order to get multiple high draft picks and promising young players to rebuild a NEW core... Nobody is advocating trading Datsyuk, Zetterberg or Kronwall. The suggestion was, if Holland was going to forgo all efforts to win now and not try to acquire the needs to win NOW, and go for a total rebuild, he may as well go for it all and get the huge returns for his high salaried super star players. Instead he is content with retooling and just being average enough to make the playoffs. Good thing is we have high end prospects that project to be very good to great players. So as long as Holland doesn't overpay for a rental, we should be in great shape in 5 or so years. Unfortunately it will be too late for Datsyuk, unless he starts signing those famous Holland 1 year deals. Anyhow, back to this subject, in which the same user just cannot seem to stay on in any topic, if Ferraro and a pick gets it done, that would be fine, as long as Green re-signs. (I really don't want to lose Ferraro for him, but I know both he and Callahan are out of exemptions and we may lose them both for nothing anyhow, since there is no room for them on our current forward group.) NO trading any of our kids that are already here...that includes Jurco. This thread is not about who is better, Nyquist, Tatar or Jurco, its about Holland pursuing Mike Green. If you want a thread about who the best Wings Kid is, start a new one... Unfortunately Ken Holland is known for overpaying in trade, at least recently. Like I mentioned earlier, Jarnkrok would have stung a bit less if Legwand would have re-signed. But as it looks now, we overpaid and gave up our top prospect for a rental. Ferraro is no Jarnkrok, but it would still hurt to only get a one year rental for him...then again, if we were going to lose Landon for nothing, and Green comes in and becomes a 70 pointer again...flip a coin, got to give to get...
-
If it's truly a salary dump, then Ferraro and a pick should do it...no higher than a 4th though, not in this deep draft. If they are going to be allowed to rape us (as per Gary Bettman) then I say screw it, no deal. LIke I said, I really don't want to give up any prospect, but if Ferraro gets it done...that would suck for him though, I know he knows its a business, but it sucks to put your time in and then get traded...but then again, if he gets to the NHL with Washington, there is definitely no room for him here this year, plus being out of exemptions... Mike Green better turn out what we need and he better re-sign. You think we could throw #kfq in for good measure?
