  1. Carolina Hurricanes (34-22-4) vs. Detroit Red Wings (30-24-6) When: Tuesday, March 4 Time: 7 p.m. ET Where: Little Caesars Arena (Detroit, Mich.) Channel: FanDuel Sports Network Detroit. After an intense event on the national stage this past weekend, the legendary Detroit Red Wings make their triumphant return home tonight, eagerly anticipating to end their losing skid as they host the formidable Carolina Hurricanes. The Red Wings are fresh off the fifth outdoor game in franchise history. In taking on the Columbus Blue Jackets in the Stadium Series at Ohio Stadium, Detroit engaged in an exhilarating clash between regional rivals, captivating a crowd that marked the second-largest gathering in NHL history. However, the Wings found themselves defeated, losing to the Blue Jackets for the second consecutive game, falling 5-3. Currently, the Red Wings find themselves sitting fourth in the Atlantic Division, holding onto the precious second Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference. The Hurricanes arrive in Detroit after completing a three-game homestand, including showdowns against the two teams from Alberta this past weekend. Carolina faced a setback, losing to the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday before battling the Calgary Flames on Sunday. The Canes have been struggling recently, losing three of their past four games. Carolina currently occupies the second position in the Metropolitan Division, trailing the first-place Washington Capitals by a daunting 12 points. This matchup marks the first of three thrilling meetings between the Wings and Canes in the next month, promising unforgettable moments and fierce competition.

They look like crap. Need trades now! Sell some draft picks and younger NHL forwards for that long term add.

I hope not, but maybe it'll kick start Yzerman to make a trade or three.

2025 Trade Deadline March 7 - Playoffs? Buy or Sell or Build?

All in with Boeser, Cozens, Byrum and (maybe) Donato. example of some assets to trade: Veleno, Tarasenko, Rasmussen, Holl, Berggren, Viro, Tuomisto, Stange, Savage, Liam Dower Nilsson, Aucoin, 1sts, 2nds, 3rds. Cozens and Byrum are obvious upgrades PLUS they are under 24 years old and will be part of the future. Boeser and Donato are also young enough (27 and 28) to be part of the immediate future and beyond into their 30's. Boeser wants a long term contract (6-8 years) and at 27, I don't see that as a problem. Obviously Vancouver does, they want a 3-4 year contract. Donato is only at $2M and may not cost too much more to extend. Cozens is locked in for 2 more season after this, and Byrum is an RFA, but may not break the bank. He could get $7Mx8 and I wouldn't be mad. Depending on the return, this four are upgrades to what we have now and will propel us into a future of consistent playoff performers. I hope Yzerman makes some kind of Splash by Friday, this team really needs it! We aren't wining the Cup this season (although at +15000 I just placed $35 bet on them winning it!) but moving forward with this suggested updated group along with Danielson, MBN, ASP, Cossa and Augustine, the future would look much brighter than it does at the moment.

2025 Trade Deadline March 7 - Playoffs? Buy or Sell or Build?

Wings are 2-4 the last 6 games. The 2 wins were sketchy at best. Yzerman needs to make some deals or this team will fall out of the playoff race again. This D is not going to make it. Kypreos mentioned that Red Wings were looking at Bennington in one of his articles. Could Yzerman deal for a goalie? I hope it doesn't cost us Cossa or Augustine...

I'm ready for serious upgrades, but I'm also ready for nothing to happen. I just don't see this current team hanging in the playoff spot. Need serious upgrades. Yzerman cannot roll with this team. We just got embarrassed by Columbus two games in a row. They've played crappy since the season restarted.

2025 Trade Deadline March 7 - Playoffs? Buy or Sell or Build?

Honestly, I am not against acquiring Ryan Donato. He shouldn't cost much to get, he's 28 and could be re-signed and be part of our core moving forward. Obviously I would be ok with the higher end guys rumored to be on the block, like Cozens, but I am afraid of the price.

2025 Trade Deadline March 7 - Playoffs? Buy or Sell or Build?

Ok, lets entertain this idea: Most hockey insiders agree that Yzerman needs to be a buyer (conservative) this TDL. There's been a few names kicked around out there as Detroit being linked to, most recently Cozens, Zegras, and Pettersson. After thinking about these three for a while, I am not sure I'd want to give away the assets (prospect-wise) to acquire any of these. I am fine with dealing picks (even a 1st) but I really don't want to give up on Danielson, MBN, ASP or Kasper. I'm even hesitant on trading away Wallinder, but I do understand that you have to give to get. Again, draft picks don't bother me at this point considering I think our pool is pretty deep right now. That being said, I wouldn't mind a couple of VETS being acquired to help a playoff run, but also a youngster to help solidify the future. I am thinking three guys, the two vets are on teams looking to continue or start the rebuild, I am talking about The Hawks Ryan Donato and Pitt's Erik Karlsson. The youngster I'd like is Bowen Byrum. There is a good chance that we trade Tarasenko, so that will be trimming some cap off the roster. I am also ok with trading Berggren, Veleno, Rasmussen, a 1st, 2nd or 3rd, B level prospect like Viro, Hanas, or either of the Dower brothers, for example. I know Karlsson is 34, and he is not the 24 year old version of himself any longer, but with Pittsburgh looking to get out of the larger contracts, if we assumed the entire amount, it might not cost too much in assets to acquire him. I also wouldn't mind upping a deal and trying to acquire Cody Glass along with him. Ryan Donato is only 28 and could be a nice middle six player with a fair amount of playoff experience. He could also be extended as he is still young enough to be a core player. I don't see him costing more than a 3rd really, and that might even be a bit high. They could let the likes of Fischer walk and Donato would be a definte upgrade over him. Who knows, Motte might not even re-sign here. I'm hoping Kane does, but that's always a crapshoot too. Byrum is gonna cost some assets to acquire, and to re-sign him is going to be pricey, but the cap will be $95M next season. I can see him getting about $7M. Copp was placed on IR today, and Dries has been called up from GR. I think this puts a emphasis on acquiring a legit NHL center. The wrong injury and we're doomed. BTW, Rasmussen is listed day to day. I think Zegras should get a suspension for his hit. The head was the principle point of contact.

2025 Trade Deadline March 7 - Playoffs? Buy or Sell or Build?

Last season, Florida paid a 2024 4th (which was converted to a 2026 3rd) and a 2025 3rd ( two 3rd's) for Tarasenko, if we offer to retain 50% salary, they should be ok with a 2026 2nd. I see on the watch list that Detroit is connected to Cozens and Pettersson. No D? I am not sure we could afford the $11.6M Pettersson contract. They'd have to take some salary back. If we were getting one of Pettersson or Cozens, who would you think would be the better choice for our team? Could Cozens get back to 70 points? Pettersson 100? They are both risks. Rumor has it that Detroit and Calgary are both in hot pursuit for Cozens. Maybe Pettersson is too expensive to acquire. Detroit should definitely be perusing a Byram trade though. We need the upgrade on D. I'd still be good with a Lindgren trade as well. (or just try to sign him in July.)

Yep! It's unfortunate that we have to allow Tampa to leapfrog us, but we need them to stop Ottawa. Then we just need to take care of business against them and we will indeed be in 3rd place in the division, 3 points behind Toronto. If we can get some help from Seattle and the NEW Canucks, we can stay within 3 points of Toronto for second as well. I still think if we go ahead and acquire a D and a top 6 forward, there will be no stopping us from getting into the playoffs. We could use picks and prospects and players that may need a fresh start. Veleno, Tarasenko, Gustafsson as an example. Montreal is looking for a young C, a playoff team out there would love to have some depth scoring in Tarasenko, and Gustafsson could help another Cup favorite solidify there 2nd or 3rd pairing. Maybe?
