Reilly Smith only cost a 3rd. I know he's older than Debrincat, but production is similar. Plus, you know, Cup Champion. I wonder how this affects the market for Debrincat? It might not but It should....

If he wants a 1st next year, so be it. Trade him Zadina, #42 this year and OUR top 15 protected 1st in 24. If we fail to make the playoffs, then they get Boston's 1st. If both us and Boston make the playoffs, they get whichever one is the higher pick. If both picks are top 15, then they get our unprotected 1st in 2025. Then use today's #17 to try and acquire Konecny. I'd also love to see if we could get Krug somehow.

I'm hoping for some fireworks, but won't be surprised if we pick a player at 17. That being said, I have no "favorite" pick thus year. I'll just be disappointed that we don't use the pick to acquire someone. I'm in the thought process that it's time to make a leap towards the playoffs...into the playoffs. Obviously I don't know the asking prices, and I don't want Yzerman to overspend, but one of Debrincat or Konecny today would reignite my excitement for this rebuild. Either way Let's Go Wings!

Well if Dorian would rather get less and lose him next July, so be it. Let's get in on Konecny and maybe even Krug out of St. Louis. DCat may come UFA later, but no way am I ok with spending TWO 1sts on him. They didn't even pay that much and he regressed some in Ottawa.

Pelikka, Reinbacher and Willander are all RHD. If Yzerman goes D at 9 (or he could project that one of them would fall out of the top 10 and trade back?) one of those could start to fill that cupboard. Although we do need the best C we can get. I read somewhere that Yzerman likes Will Smith (the hockey player, although he may enjoy getting jiggy with it once in a while too! ) but he'd have to trade up a bit to draft him probably. There are a couple of vet UFA RHD available to fill this years gap as well. Klinberg, Hamonic to name a couple. Maybe in the Debrincat trade, Yzerman can acquire Hamonic's UFA rights and get him signed before July 1? Also, I am thinking we need a better 1B goalie. What about Vladar out of Calgary? Might cost a 4th to get. He's young enough, plus 2 years left on a contract, to split time with Husso, until Cossa (hopefully) rises through the ranks.

According to CapFriendly, Raymond isn't eligible for arbitration when he becomes RFA. But for sure, any player should EARN their contract. I agree 100% I was thinking, what if Yzerman did pull off the Debrincat and Konecney? Where would that line people up? Would a line of Konecny - Larkin - Debrincat be a great line? Konecny - Larkin - Debrincat Kubalik - Copp - Raymond Fabbri - Veleno - Perron Berggren - Rasmussen - ????

Is there anything stopping Lalonde from playing them together? Raymond-Larkin-Debrincat Not enough puck for everyone maybe? But 30-40 goals each for the wingers and 100+ points for Larkin wouldn't be bad actually.

Drafting is hard too. With the idea of Zadina going the other way (which is fine) I'm still pissed at Holland that he left both Hughes and Bouchard looking right at us and drafted Zadina. Holland just destroyed this team with his stupid drafting at the end. Ok, breathe, Yzerman will make this right.

Yzerman should do his magic and trade up from the #17 to guarantee that the unnamed prospect is there. If not, I guess Debrincat plays one more season in Ottawa and comes here UFA. It's a stupid stipulation though having a certain prospect there. No other team that Debrincat will sign long term with can give them a higher pick than 17. Just do the deal. If we trade the 17, then what do we acquire Konecny and Krug with? Boston's 1st? Zadina, 17, 43 for Debrincat. Johansson, Boston 1st for Krug, Konecny. Find the right backup goalie and possibly a veteran D (OEL or Klingberg?) and the playoffs are in our sights!
