Finishing ahead of Ottawa would be epic! Considering how butt-hurt their fan base is right now!
-
Buffalo going to be in cap hell pretty soon! Hot take: I still think Yzerman has another trade up his sleeve.
-
Well, I was not looking for a W or an L. Just informing someone of how it works. Kip will always be a W with me! We are -Winger bros!

That is not what two-way means. Two-Way means he gets paid an amount in the NHL and a lower amount in the AHL. A one-way contract is just that, he would get paid the same in the NHL or AHL. He is out of waiver exemptions due to his length of since he signed his 1st professional contract. He has played 5 pro seasons. He requires waivers to be sent down. Two-Way Contract: See his Total Salary $787,500(NHL Salary) and his Minors Salary is $70,000. When you look at Andrew Copp, One-Way contract, you see his Total Salary and his Minors Salary is the same each year:

Back on topic of the off-season. McIsaac nor Veleno have wiaver exemptions left. Veleno was always going to be in Detroit, but McIsaac is an interesting story. If you doesn't make the club, does Yzerman risk waiving him to GR? Does someone pick him up considering he is young, his potential and small salary? I'm not for losing someone for nothing unless they've already proven they aren't going to make it basically or am just tired of the ineptness, ie. Zadina. With this current D Corps, plus the prospects who are ranked ahead of him, it's gonna be a hard task to make the club. Hopefully Yzerman has a trade ready soon. I'd hate to lose him for zilch. I think that was just Development Camp since Luff obviously would not be there. I guess we'll see when Training Camp Rosters are sent out! BTW, I wonder who this years invitees will be? Always have to root for an underdog to get a contract! Also, I wonder if there will be any PTO's?

Ok, figured out Dats' #56. He wore it during 2001 training camp, then obviously switched to 13 to start the season. Here's a list of players at 2001 camp. Pavel is #56 and there's no #13. http://www.griffinscentral.com/hist/camp01.html And here shows that he was not at the 2000 camp. http://www.griffinscentral.com/hist/camp00.html

Speaking of numbers, can anyone shed some light on this Datsyuk pic? He never played in the AHL and always wore 13...as far as I knew. .

When Simon was still in SHL I suggested in one of our threads, or maybe on Twitter than he should wear 77 since he couldnt wear 7. Awesome! Also with Kostin wearing 24, he better throw some fists around! https://fb.watch/lUfgeIHuot/?mibextid=6aamW6

So we can agree, Yzerman changed everything. He made some great trades too. Not necessarily for players that were going to be around for the long term, some were trial and error, but he got rid of nearly all Hollands junk. Vrana was a fleece, even though he didn't work out. Mantha was topped out, he wasn't getting any better. The other assets Yzerman got in that deal, and how they all played out thus far was far better than keeping Mantha. He made some flops too, but again, he was basically trying to make the team competitive while dumping Holland's junk. This off season he got 4 players I believe he feels are going to huge to this team for years and years. Debrincat (obviously) Kostin, Danielson and Pellikka. The others are just stop gaps to make them competitive in order to take the next step of progression the next 1-4 years.

As a reclamation project yes. Low risk high reward.

I say get a package together starting with Veleno in order to obtain Konecny or Boeser. Vancouver needs cap relief. Fabbri, Veleno, McIsaac is the package. to PHL : Fabbri, Veleno, McIsaac to DET : Konecny, 2025 2nd -OR- to VAN : Fabbri, Veleno, McIsaac to DET : Boeser, Tanner Pearson (LTIR for 1 more season) & 2024 1st (because we helped them out with their cap problem, we relived them of nearly $10M)(Top 10 protected of course to 2025) edit: Here is an armchair GM of the Boeser deal. (along with a couple of others. I signed Patrick and Merkley as reclamation projects.)

If Boston only gets 11, then you know they are going in to a rebuild (tank) the next season to try to get a lottery pick, then we'd miss out on a top 10 pick in 25. I am sure we'd get a great player at 11, but I think I'd rather Boston get a top 10 pick now, and send us the 25 pick which might be another top 10 when they sell the farm in the off season. Either way, we'd get a top 10 pick from them, if they gave us 24 or 25. I agree though, Detroit pick should be higher than 20 so Ottawa can have the 2024 pick! Boston gets top 10, sends us 2025 1st. Detroit gets 26th, sends that to Ottawa, then in 2025 Boston's pick is top 3 and we trade our 1st (25-30) in another deal like the Debrincat deal. edit: Sorry, I had to delete the first scenario, because it had Boston giving us the 25, which I then gave Ottawa, but then I also had Detroit still having the two 2025 picks. Duh! My bad!

Career years for all! Larkin 100+ DeBrincat 50 goals, 40 assists Rasmussen 40 points Raymond 80 points (37 goals) Compher 60 points Copp 70 points Seider 67 points Ghost 80 points! Husso 42 wins Lalonde Jack Adams Yzerman GM of the Year Chairot bounces back, 40+ points, +30! He and Maatta are coined the best defensive defenseman duo in the Eastern conference! Holl proves everyone wrong, has 30+ points and is a +50 playing alongside Ghost! Wings make it all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals, eliminating Toronto in the 1st, Tampa in the 2nd. Hard fought 7 game series against The Rangers. Ottawa and Pittsburgh fail to make the playoffs, but not bad enough to get a top 12 pick.

Is it too early to start a 2024 Draft thread? Oh, I guess I just did! IF the Wings fail again and get into the top 10, but do not win a lottery selection, with the draft heavy on D, does Yzerman go D again or go for a positional need and reach a bit for a forward? Here's some of the D and a couple of F's ranked between 5-10 at the moment: (In no order) Aron Kiviharju LHD Cole Hutson, LHD Henry Mews, RHD Sam Dickinson, LHD Berkly Catton, C Konsta Helenius, RW Hopefully we fall somewhere higher than 16, if that is the case, here's a couple of mid to late teens ranked picks: Zeev Buium, LHD Ryder Ritchie, RW Adam Jiricek, RHD Feel free to let this topic fall as the off season goes on, we can just bump it up when it comes time. Or we can keep it going, it's always good to pick out a few players and watch how their season and ranking change before the draft.

Wonder what the delay in re-signing Veleno is. His QO is $874k, he has no arbritation rights. He did net 20 points last season and seemed to make some strides in the right direction. Is he exploring the RFA market? Could someone Offer Sheet him? I think a nice contract would be somewhere in between $1M to $1.3M, with no more than 3 years. Maybe he accepts the QO and gives The Wings that much more cap room for another acquisition. Maybe he'll be traded? Still wondering if Serron Noel (22 years old) will get a contract somewhere, also getting more curious of Nolan Patrick. Although he did not play in 2022-23 (injury) he is still only 24, could he be a reclamation project? I'd really like to see Ryan Merkley get into the organization here. Very solid young (22) RHD that could possibly make some noise in our ranks. Basically it'd be a Zadina for Merkley swap with San Jose, and I believe we'd come out the winner in that one!

I would have to say Yzerman more so. Only because I do not think Holland would've drafted Mo at the #6. If he would've been drafting D, I see Holland still taking Broberg. If he was going forward, you would hope he would've gone with Zegras or Cozens, but he probably would've reached with Poulin or Holmstrom. Although Raymond came out firing, I think he still needs more time to see if he can be a 30-40 goal scorer. Simon is a stud, hopefully he spends only one more season in GR and makes the team soon! I also hope that Kasper and Danielson make a splash sooner rather that later, because I do believe the days of The Wings drafting in the top 10 are over. So (even though we've had the worst lottery luck in NHL lottery history) we'll never get to draft that #1 or #2 generational player. BUT, that being said, injuries play a huge role in a team's success, and although I am ready to have them turn the corner, I wouldn't mind having a shot at Cole Eiserman. So, IMO, Yzerman changed the direction with his surprising selection of Mo Seider and also dumping most of Holland's trash.

In y'alls opinion, what would a package look like to acquire Kyle Connor & Brad Lambert? I'm using Fabbri and Veleno as the start. Not even sure they'd want them, except that Fabbri is similar in age, cost over $3M less, and Veleno is further along towards the NHL than Lambert is. Of course Connor netted 80 points last year, and Fabbri isn't really a PPG player, although two seasons ago he scored 30 points in 56 games. So there is some potential there. Also the health factor. I am not saying 2 for 2 straight up, but what else would we need to add in your opinion? a 1st? Another prospect? It could be time that we can spare a conditional 1st in, lets say 2025. Prospect-wise, I am not sure what would help, but maybe a Viro or Neiderbach or Hanas? to DET : Kyle Connor, Brad Lambert to WPG : Robby Fabbri, Joe Veleno, 25 conditional 1st, Neiderbach I am just throwing stuff out there to keep this offseason going here. Let me know your ideas. I'd like to see them acquire one of Conner or Konecny still. I think would leap frog the franchise even more so. edit: after thinking about it, with Kasper and Danielson, would we even need Lambert in the organization? So what about just snagging Connor? Would Fabbri and Veleno do it? Or would we still have to sweetin the pot?

DeAngelo had such a promising career. I know he has a very unpopular opinion about things, but that shouldn't inhibit his ability to work. I guess maybe he'll find his way overseas unless some team takes a flyer on him. -

'tis why his contract was terminated just 12 days after signing. -
Oh! I did not know that. Yikes!
-
A couple other players (outside of the bigger names) I'm surprised (well I'm sure there's reasons) haven't signed somewhere: Ryan Merkley Serron Noel Bode Wilde Cal Foote Maxime Comtois Nolan Patrick (sheesh remember when he was supposed to go 1st overall?)
-
We really didn't have room for him, but I was surprised he didn't get a QO. At one point before Yzerman signed all those guys, I thought Jesper might be a good fit here, but I'm not a GM for a reason.
-
Dang it, Jesper Boqvist signed in Boston. He's gonna be good for them.
