4/9 GDT - Red Wings 3 @ Pens 4 (SO). Wings clinch playoff spot!

I think for playoff purposes, PIT wants the Jackets and we want Bos and NEITHER BOS nor PIT want Detroit. As long as we get our 1 point, I kind of hope we drop to 8th to play BOS in the first round. Only kind of though. It would be nice to pull the upset over PIT as well! More satisfying than upsetting Boston that's for sure! Especially after 2009's Bettman Cup.

Puck Daddy: Trotz Head Coach for Caps

I'd consider Hitchcock...if Babs ever stepped down. If Weber wants to get in to the playoffs every year, he needs to demand a trade to Detroit. I will give them 5 first round picks, Almqvist, Franzen and included to Poile his own LC franchise.

BTW Legwand = .61 ppg....Jarnkrok = .66 ppg We needed Legwand. We will not miss Jarnkrok. Legwand with points tonight! Let's go Wings!

Franzen will never NOT be lazy. In all honesty, putting my never ending hatred for him aside, there is no forward out there that is less important to this team right now and is as useless... On the D, you can argue Kindl and Q, but the D is a-whole-nother entity. Franzen, right now, can be described as the worst forward on this team and it will only get worse with each coming year. Trade him this June. That being said, I hope he is the scratch tonight. It is of 0 advantage to have him out there.... (of course I am hoping that all this talk, makes him start another streak of scoring so I can enjoy the crow.)

OK, so I am a bit confused then....I thought the first tie break is number of wins? If that is the case, if we get a OT/Shootout loss for 1 point the rest of the season, we finish with 38 wins. If Washington runs the board and wins all three of their games they will have 39 wins..... NEVERMIND! LOL! Wins are counted for both ROW and Shootout...and we have more ROW! Durt de Durt! Lets go Wings!

Hey guys! Go Wings, get it done tonight! I hate to be a buzz kill, but I think we need 2 points, not 1. Hypothetically if we only got 1 point in the remaining 3 games, it would give us 91 points. That would keep NJ from catching us, but Washington could win their remaining 3 games and also get 91 points. But they would have more wins than us. I am assuming that Columbus will win some more as well. Looks like our math was a little fuzzy yesterday. I hope Washington and NJ both lose at least one game to help us out, I damn sure don't want to go into St. Louis on Sunday needing 1 or 2 points. How bad would St. Louis want to beat us that day to be the team to break our streak? Especially after all the playoff eliminations and season defeated we have handed them in the past.....ugh! Lets just get our two points tonight against an ailing pens squad, if not then please lets win against Carolina, a game we should win anyhow...

    A plea to Holland.

We are currently at a magic number of 3 with 4 games left. There is no need to bring up young guys to try an experiment now. Win tonight, get that 1 more point by winning again or having NJ lose or get a SO loss and then maybe for the next 3 games see what Sproul or Ouellet has for the final 3 games. Also don't worry about Holland signing aging UFA's to long term deals and our kids getting buried. If Holland is smart, and 99% of the NHL world thinks he is, he will sign a couple of mid-30 vets to 2 years contracts in order to give the likes of Marchenko, Ouellet, and Sproul another solid year in GR and then in 2015-16 they can start their call ups and getting their feet wet (or soaked) in Detroit while the UFA vets are in the last year of their contracts, thus bridging the transition perfectly. I am still not convinced that Holland won't try to go for a top pairing guy via the trade market come June, but even if he just signed 2 UFA's for the lower lines, I would perfectly fine with that. Krowall - Ericsson Dekeyser - Morris ( I know, I know you are tired of seeing his name from me! ) Smith - Weaver ( you thought I was going to put Mitchell!) Lashoff (or Almqvist if not traded) That roster for the next 2 years would be much more solid than ours now. Plus you have to know that we are going to see cameo appearances by the big three from GR as well. In 2016: Kronwall - Ericsson Dekeyser - Smith Marchenko - Sproul Ouellet Obviously the pairings are just thrown in there, who knows who will be playing with who, but in another 2 years, those top 4 should be 4 of the best and well experienced players in the NHL, if not, the at least a ton better than they are now because of the chemistry. That group of 7 could be together for 5-6 years if all goes as planned. Maybe longer. Somehow I don't see it, because of the volatility of the free agent market every year, but indeed our D future is bright, there just isn't the need to throw them into the pressure of having to get 3 points in 4 games. The pressure of the streak looms large and it could break them. Get in, then give the guys a tryout. Maybe they will force Kindl and Lashoff to sit in the playoffs...

    Ridiculous SO goal by Athanasiou

I don't want to rehash the debate over here, but players like this, Frk and the likes of Pulkkinen along with the kids that we have on our team now are the reason Jarnkrok was able to be dealt for something we needed at the midnite hour. Sure, Calle was currently ranked ahead of AA and Frk and Pulk, but our management team is one of the best in the world. In 3 years, Calle may be putting up some great numbers in Nashville, but with our corps of talent that's gonna be in GR in the next couple, trust me, and trust them, you really aren't going to miss him any more than you missed what's his name that we traded for Lang...

    4/8 GDT - Red Wings 4 at Sabres 2

so, if I am doing my math correctly, 2 points for us in the remaining games and 1 or less for Jersey in any of their remaining games puts us in.... must get those 2 tonight!

Lightning sign GM Yzerman to contract extension

bottom line....we needed Legwand, we didn't need Jarnkrok. Congrats Steve.

Detroit says Weiss "Not Getting Better", likely done for year

trade him, Franzen, Howard our 1st to Vancouver for Kesler. Sign Miller. Weiss can play with booth again, Franzee can play with the twins, they will get a nice starting goalie.

    A plea to Holland.

How much better would this team be with Morris, Boyle, Marchenko and Miller over Kindl, Quincey, Lashoff and Howard? We have a chance this summer to make those exact changes...

    A plea to Holland.

ya, Markov too. My point being we need that solid vet defenders for two to three years while our young guns get their feet wet. Ryan Miller also says he is testing the waters in July. Holland should throw his wad at him, then get rid of Jimmy. I know Jimmy will do better with better D in front of him, but you only get this one shot at that Elite goalie we sure could use. And I would be willing to bet he would love to come home and play with his brother. He would also have to be intrigued by the potential our young kids are showing. Who wouldn't want to be part of this team going forward? When the Wild miss the playoffs, Suter is going to ***** slap his wife for talking him out of signing in Detroit.

    A plea to Holland.

said it before and I'll say it again. We need two veteran defensemen to bridge this team before Ouellet and Sproul are ready in two years. Dump Kindl, go ahead a waive Lashoff and don't even let Quincey call you this summer. Sign any two of Morris, Mitchell, Boyle, Orpik or Weaver. Bring up Marchenko to be #7.

    4/5 GDT - Canadiens 5 vs Red Wings 3

does anyone have video of the questionable habs goals? I was forced to listen to the radio last night.

Howard doesn't make any better saves. His rebound control is just as horrible.

    4/5 GDT - Canadiens 5 vs Red Wings 3

great third by the Wings, only to be let down by their below average goalies again. D sucks, we all know that, but when Howard and Gus cannot control rebounds, its all on them. Wings had all the momentum, Gus lost this game. btw, where has Franzen been? Trade him.

    4/5 GDT - Canadiens 5 vs Red Wings 3

we need a goalie we can rely on. We can score all we want, but when a goalie gives up two goals on 2 shots to deflate our team, its pathetic. ya monster, make some saves now. How about when we were tied....

who called that glenny goal? +1,000,000,000 for you. nice to get back in this game. Lets keep the habs off the board now!

    4/5 GDT - Canadiens 5 vs Red Wings 3

that's also the reason we need Ryan Miller. Jimmy Howard is nowhere near the talent of any of those guys you listed. You just made it crystal clear for anyone who believes Howard can carry us to glory. +1,000,000 for you!

    4/5 GDT - Canadiens 5 vs Red Wings 3

Quincey and Kindl cannot be on this team next season. I wonder if Holland inquired about Weaver on trade day? Montreal gave up a 5th rounder I believe. If Holland can waste a #1 on Q, he could have bettered a 5th....we'll never know. Sure would love to see Franzen gone over the summer.

turn out the lights. Wings need better D and better goalie tandem.

the only problem is the NTC. IF Howard were to waive it, he would be in control of his destination.

you're witnessing what an elite goalie can do. We need that type of goalie. Gustavsson nor Howard are the answer. Wings need to lure Ryan Miller home.
