Ok, in todays episode of What we need, the guy is MacDonald. That's cool, so lets look at this. Let's say Detroit acquires MacDonald, Moulson and Visnovsky....what do you think goes back in return? Never mind, for some reason I thought Moulson was still with the Isles....please return to your regularly scheduled program...

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

one would assume if Nick was planning an UN-retirement, he would have maybe played for Sweden in the Olympics? -

Zombo, I do agree with you on that! Especially in the cap era, picks are far more valuable! -

all I know is the deadline is March 5. I agree with you guys about maybe a minor depth trade on D and MAYBE a cheaper rental to try and make up for Z's point production as best as we can. Which is why earlier in the week I mentioned Jagr. By all means I am not saying go out and get him, he is the answer, but he could be the kind of minor deal to shore up the first line while Z is gone, and his cap hit is not that bad. It also would probably cost us very little... ...we can all agree that our D needs an upgrade over Q and K. Trading them for picks and then maybe getting a mid-tier defender that is an upgrade to those two...maybe a pending UFA vet that is looking for a place to finish his career. IIRC wasn't Holland GM when we acquired Murphy? Looking back, March 18, 1997 for future considerations...I think Holland was already promoted to GM by then, maybe not. Maybe acquire someone of that stature for the depth and solidify the backend for a nice push for the playoffs.. Players like Murphy that could be had for futures or lower end picks: Salo, Timonen, Zidlicky, Mitchell, Robidas, Derek Morris to name a few that would be definite upgrades over Q or K and if they returned for another season help bridge the gap while our kids merge in next season... ...on my team I would take Derek Morris and Wille Mitchell in place of Q and K today...get it done! Also it's almost a wash on salary... -

Let us not forget Holland DID acquire Dominik Hasek via trade. to BUF: Vyacheslav Kozlov, 2002 1st round pick. to DET: Dominik Hasek, 2002 Stanley Cup ...Holland had some balls back then (especially since it meant he had to waive fan favorite Chris Osgood) so maybe he can find them again and make that deal for a top line defender... I sure wish Nashville wanted to get rid of Weber's contract... -

I have come to the conclusion myself that IF we made a big deal, it should be for a D man first and foremost... I should say that I have succeeded that fact. That being said, I still think we could trade for someone like Brad Boyes, who could help the powerplay and in the shootouts. I really don't think he would cost too much in trade... If we grab a top 3 defenseman, it will definitely cost us at least one of Q or K or Smith along with a defensive prospect and our #1 draft pick. I don't want to give up on Smitty, but if it means getting that defenseman we need, then so be it. We won't get too much for Q alone (yes, I know that we won't get Morrow) but if we traded Q, Smith, Almqvist and our #1? What kind of return would that get us? Or maybe just keep Q until UFA and trade Smith, Almqvist, #1 and a forward prospect...I know Andersson isn't worth much either, but what kind of realistic package do you see that would get us a top 3 guy? (for fun, you cannot include Nyquist, Jurco, Tatar or Sheahan...) s*** just got hard, eh? also, IMO, this year isn't about winning a Cup, it's about making the dance and re-tooling over the summer with our kids and a UFA piece or two...or if we acquired someone at the deadline... -

The Silver means as much to the Swedes as winning the Bronze meant to the USA... after the two quick goals 11 seconds apart, the USA just mailed in the rest of the game...really, who cares about a Bronze? We went there to win the Gold and anything else was meaningless... I'd rather have a pin that says "I Participated at Sochi" than take home a Bronze medal in Hockey... -

I am not happy, but I did say from the start that Canada's defense scares me...they just proved why, two shutouts against two of the best teams in the world.... Congrats. now, Lets go Red Wings! -

trade Q to Edmonton for Ryan Smythe... -
BTW, after this showing, USA doesn't deserve the Bronze...not that I think they'll beat The Fins. Just give them a participation pin...who cares about a Bronze...

USA showed up for 5 mins today...that's the hardest Price had to work....the first 5 mins. Quick played out of his mind. The only one... at the Olsen Twins...i wish nothing but failure on them.

...well, now I can go back to despising these guys again...what a flippin choke job.

Kindl, Andersson, Almqvist to NJ for Zids and Jagr...one rental, one to re-sign... Trade Q to whoever wants him for whatever they offer....( that so I don't mention Morrow again!) Waive Sammy again, Bert and Cleary both sit and Franzen is still injured. Z is LTIR, even if he wasn't it would still fit under the cap...until Weiss gets back that is... Nyquist - Datsyuk - Jagr Abdelkader - Helm - Alfredsson Jurco - Sheahan - Tatar MIller - Glendening - Eaves Kronwall - Zidlicky Ericsson - Dekeyser Smith - Lashoff Marchenko ...when Weiss comes back you waive Eaves again or send Glenny back down. If Z plays, then you have to waive Cleary and Bert and send down Jurco...unfortunately -

its a typical response from an entitled Canadian fan...if USA can beat the Czechs, canadas cake walk will end... Not saying we are better than them, but they ain't seen nothing like the US Team. They just don't understand USA Hockey... -

Latvia upsets the Swiss? Sheesh, how easy are they going to make it on Canada? Talk about an easy ride to the semi's....easiest group in the Tourney and now Latvia... what a croc of conspiracy crap! Wonder if the USA "ends up" losing to the Czechs....Hmmmmm.....guess we will cross that when we get there.... -

I can see your point 9. If all we got was Moulson, then that would work too! I admit, I do not know too much about Myers, but if our needs are a top line Defender, who do you think fits the bill and would we be able to afford to pick him up? Lets say you traded our #1 for Moulson....now we need to address our glaring need at D. Bogosian? Yandle? Visnovsky? Someone else? Cost? -

So if Moulson produced with Taveres and not doing as good in Buffalo, then it would stand to reason he may produce again with Datsyuk/Zetterberg? I think so! I am all for a package trade to acquire Ott and Moulson and even Tyler Myers if they want to throw him in! That's $11.6M in salary coming our way, so we'd have to send some back and bet on Zetterberg going LTIR....and Franzen. So, pretty much, ya, no, that won't be a trade that will be happening...but it sure would be nice! So in all honesty, what do you think it would cost? Assume that Kindl and Quincey are going back their way. Almqvist can go with them as one of the prosepects. What else? edit: Salary could work if Z goes LTIR and Q and K are gone. I think Andersson would be an involved player, we'd especially need his roster spot...
