Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

If they want a Cup, they would trade Howard.... Vancouver needs a 2nd line center, yet Kesler is there, but he is playing with the Twins...well, when Franzen gets cleared to play, trade him to Vancouver to play with the Twins and move Kesler back to 2nd line center...

NHL players will not participate in 2018 Olympics (Mod Post #99)

No "All-Star" game will ever have the same impact on Hockey that the 1980 Olympics. I don't care about the game that went into overtime last time. It was just an all star game. It no affect on the fans in the USA, which is where the TV revenue comes from, so there is where you want to ratings and the fan interest in order to grow your sport. Think about the NHL before 1980 in the states, then think about where it has come since then in the States. Hockey has ALWAYS been near the top of the list in countries around the globe like Russia, Sweden, Czech and Finland. It will always be tops in Canada no matter what. If you want your sport to grow again by leaps and bounds again in the States, where I will mention again because it is very important to my point, where the TV revenue is, you have to have miracle type stories. Around the world the USA is known for MLB, NFL and NBA, then the NHL and hockey in general falls way down the list right now. Sure, current NHL fans will watch the "pros" play in the Olympics, and enjoy the tourney, but they will also watch a regular all star game and enjoy it, but you want to attract MORE than just the NHL fans. You want to attract fans in Alabama who do have a college hockey team, but when it comes to the NHL, they don't know too much. But put our College kids against the CHL, SEL, etc... and now we have more interest from all over the states. It still may not get you a franchise in Alabama, but if a kid out of UAH has a pretty good college career and but shines in the Olympic tourney and perhaps earns himself a draft by an NHL team, you now have a few more fans in that state who might turn on ESPN to watch their hometown kid skate for the Canadiens... right now, you can be guaranteed that Olympic fans in Alabama or Mississippi are not going to watch the Ice Hockey tournament just because NHL players are there, but if they have a kid from UAH there, that maybe wouldn't normally have a shot at the Olympics, you can be sure they will tune in...although looking at UAH's roster, there isn't any kids from Alabama on it, but that could change with the Olympics selecting College kids because maybe a young boy sees a UAH player going to the Olympics it may intrigue him to start playing. Right now that young boy just strives to play football and having the NHL players over there won't change that and it won't turn on the TV's in non-NHL cities... 1980 was to USA hockey is what the Beatles were to Rock N Roll...it's time to go back to investing in our kids to promote this sport, not a bunch of well (some over) paid athletes...

    Jimmy Howard's New Olympic Mask

I look at the front of Smith's with that Kabooki guy on there and am waiting to hear the little noise that was made on the Brady Bunch episode in Hawaii with Greg's "lucky" charm! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwvDNpiKUj0

I still believe in Smith, but I have lost all hope in Kindl. I hated when they drafted Kindl, never really liked him throughout his career, but like most others, got a little excited for him with his progression last season. Boy was I fooled! I actually thought for a moment that Q would be good for us too...soured on him pretty quickly though. So, for now I am for keeping Smith and dumping Q and K for what we can get for them. If nobody wants Q, I am for letting him walk away July 1st. We cannot waste another penny or that valuable roster spot on him...

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

"Convince" Average Jimmy to waive his NTC and send him to Edmonton for their #1 pick in the draft this year. Acquire Ryan Miller from the Sabres and start planning at least 2 Cup parades in the next 4 years.

If you are talking a vet to be a stop gap and give some veteran presence then lets not leave out these: Willie Mitchell, Derek Morris, Stephane Robidas, Chris Phillips and I am not so sure that Holland won't give a shot to Doug Murray given the Swedish connection... others I wouldn't mind seeing in our top 4 are: Orpik, Girardi, Klesla, Matt Greene and Niskanen. All of which I would rather have than Q...or K for that matter. Boyle would be a good Vet to have in the locker room and on the ice, but not for anywhere near his current salary. Maybe, $4M per for 1 or 2 years.

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

It seems that Vancouver has forever been looking for a 2nd line center. They have Kesler, so I don't understand why they are always in need of a 2nd line center every year...not unless they utilize Kesler as a wing, although he is listed as a center... they also have Jeremy Welsh who I would LOVE to get into this organization somehow. Although, as of this summer he is out of exemptions and could not be sent the GR to play if we did acquire him. Looks like he may get his shot in Vancouver unless they waive him themselves...he is also an RFA this July.

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

I am telling you, the golden deal is this: Kindl an Almqvist to the Isle for Visnovsky. Then trade Quincey to Boston for a prospect, I choose Joe Morrow who will help bolster our fine young D corps in GR. I know I have said this before, but I feel the need to keep saying it until it happens! to NYI: Jakub Kindl - Adam Almqvist to DET: Lubomir Visnovsky and to BOS: Kyle Quincey to DET: Joe Morrow

I am full on for Visnovsky. That kind of trade would be considered a minor move. Which is what Detroit thrives on... Kindl, Almqvist for Visnovsky Quincey for Joe Morrow to dump salary and bolster our prospect pool in Rapids.

    Predicting our RFA Contracts

Wow, you guys are generous when it comes to someone else's money None of these guys have earned that much of a raise....this is more like it... Dekeyser - 2yrs @ $2.5M-$2.75M per. Tatar - 2yrs @ $1.125M-$1.5M per Sheahan - See Tatar Glendening - 2yrs @ $925K per ..after these contracts, then they may hit paydirt. I say 2 years because these guys will still be RFA's after the contract (as someone mentioned above) that way you have exclusive rights to them. After 2 years, I can see some of those numbers you guys are talking about, on 5-8 year contract...maybe more than you guys are talking about!

2/6 GDT: Red Wings 3 at Panthers 1

That's an awesome lineup! Should have been similar to that from day one...Too bad we had to go through about the worse streak we've seen in these parts since 1989 in order for Kenny to realize it! Funny, watching 24/7 you could tell he was getting a bit annoyed with Babs constant use of crappy vets and refusing to use the youth we had...so glad that all changed! I for one am blaming Cleary for Weiss's injury, he had to slow way down to stay with Cleary and as he was skating awkward, he tweaked that hernia! Ya, ya, that's the ticket! I think with this lineup, Florida won't know what to do! Almost a triple threat with Z and Dats on separate lines and the speed and skill of the pink slips will wear Florida down. Heck, even Glenny's line is gonna cause some problems...could Andersson/Glenny/Miller be the new version of the Grind Line? I think if Andy was replaced with Tootoo or Eaves it sure could!

Kindl and Almqvist for Visnovsky... Quincey for Joe Morrow to clear much needed cap space...

Orpik would be nice too... BTW, your Broncos avatar didn't bring much luck to them...I hope your Tiger's one doesn't have the same affect...

    Next Seasons Needs/Team Future

Here is my ideal team for next year. Nothing huge or nothing too outrageous. This dealine, I trade Kindl, Almqvist to the Isles for Visnovsky. I trade Q to Boston for Joe Morrow. This UFA season I re-sign Alfie (if he wants to) to a similar contract. Let the other UFA's walk. Goodbye Sammy, Cleary, Bertuzzi, Monster and Eaves. I sign Matt Niskanen and Scott Clemmensen as UFA. (if Buffalo buys out Myers I may rethink Niskanen.) I re-sign all my RFA's and end training camp with a roster like this: Z ($6.083M) - Pav ($7.5M) - Nyquist ($950K) Alfie ($5.5M) - Weiss ($4.9M) - Franzen ($3.9M) Tatar ($1.110M) - Sheahan ($1.110M) - Jurco ($709K) Miller ($1.350M) - Helm ($2.125M) - Abby ($1.8M) Andersson ($732K) Glendening ($650K) Callahan ($650K) Ferraro ($950K) all vying for the last spot. Visnovsky ($4.750M) - Kronwall ($4.750M) Ericsson ($4.250M) - Niskanen ($4.250M) Dekeyser ($2.250M) - Smith ($1.262M) Lashoff ($725K) Marchenko, Morrow, Ouellet, Sproul all on the standby list. Howard ($5.291M) Clemmensen ($1.750M) Mrazek for injury callup... This roster leaves them potentially $1.791M available cap space BEFORE decisions are made on the four guys trying to get that 13th and 14th forward positions. Like stated before Glendening and Jurco BOTH have exemptions to play in GR. I am not saying they belong there, but if Holland and Babs want to get a longer look at Callahan and Ferraro, they could easily start the season with Glenny and Jurx in GR to get that longer look at those two in Detroit...

If Callahan is just a younger Tootoo, then realiscally, what are his odds of being on this team? I agree that this team needs an agitator like that, but Babs and Kenny have shown this year, they don't agree with us... A line of Tootoo - Glendening - Callahan would only happen if someone was traded/bought out and Jurco starts the season in GR. I happen to think that BOTH Glenny and Jurx will START in GR because they can without passing through waivers. ONLY so the Wings can see what they have here before being forced to move someone to make room for those two who both will be on the roster MOST of the season next year...
