I agree Jimmy, teams (other GM's) are notorious for asking way too much from Holland, then accepting very little in comparison from other GM's... PERECT example...2008, Columbus wanted Val Filppula for Sergei Fedorov...accepted Theo "Ted" Ruth from Washington...who? has yet to even attempt an appearance in the NHL...

There is NO doubt Holland could have matched what Ottawa gave up for Ryan. Nyquist is just as good as Silfverberg Noesen hasn't stepped foot in the NHL for Anaheim thus far and could be compared to Ferraro. Our 1st round pick will be very similar to Ottawa's in 2014. Nyquist, Ferraro, 2014 1st for Bobby Ryan... Holland needs to grow his balls soon or this team in going to be out for a bit...

exactly...freedom of choice! Let them choose if they want to go or not, but as a nation, DO NOT pull out of these Olympics because terrorists are trying to destroy your way of life. The NHL should say, we are no longer supporting these Olympics (or any more for that matter) but our players are free to choose with their God given rights if they want to participate. Terrorists will NEVER a person's right to choose. I say good for the NHL for not wanting to put their players and families in danger, but you cannot bow down to these fools.

that 1st round pick alone gets you Bogo, especially if it is in the top 10. Almqvist and Ferraro are high prospects and Andersson is a defensive center who can kill penalties and Kindl in a very experienced d-man with some upside. It's actually the prospects and the 1st that are the main players. But then again, you are right, GM's want MORE than what a player is worth. But that is the NHL today...but it is very important to get the right D-Man here. This back end cannot go with the same group of guys next season. I don't see Kronwall, Dekeyser or Ericsson being traded. Smith, maybe.

I don't even like Toby Keith, but it was Al-Qaida that threatened Sochi...that is why I centered my rant on them...

Someone has to go...I am not for NHL players in the Olympics, but what are we going to send 17 and 18 kids over there to get blown up? That would be like throwing your kid in front of a bullet to save your own life... If we don't send players, the dickheads win. And I don't mean the Candians! I mean the terrorists. ( I am part Canadian BTW, so I can mess with my own heritage.) If the countries don't go to Sochi, then the bad guys win, they successfully strongarm us into their plots of fear. The ONLY way to stamp out this garbage and garbage people in the world is to react with vengeance. I don't mean a ground war against them either. Not to turn this political, but they way the world and the United Nations pussyfoot around these assholes isn't getting the job done. If you attack us, you will be destroyed. PERIOD. I am not saying FORCE these players and citizens to go, but let them choose, that is, in fact, the wonder of our nation, the right to choose. If you as an individual feel afraid or not then choose if you want to go or not. You cannot let these pigs win. That's right I called them pigs because that is what they are PIGS. How stupid would they be to bomb Sochi, when all they would get in return is the likes of not only the USA on their bad side, but now the rest of the world! Last time I checked, Russia and China weren't too involved in the war on Terror, but bomb Sochi? IN Russia? Now you Al-Qaida dildos have the entire world against you, and there will be nobody to oppose the USA when they start bombing your ass. It's time to stamp out these cockroaches with nuclear weapons. If something happens and China and Russia get pissed off, guarantee it's over. The middle east will look like a parking lot, and I for one, encourage it! Bye Bye Al-Qaida...

...we should merge these threads. Anyway, I wonder what it would take to acquire Bogosian from Winnipeg? He isn't a #1 guy, but he is a solid #3/4 and maybe even a #2 on this team. He is pretty big and right handed, which I think is very important. I would be willing to part with Kindl, Andersson pick and prospect(s) for him and Ladd. Let's just say, Kindl, Andersson, Almqvist, Ferraro our 1st. For Ladd and Bogo. I am going to go with Franzen being healthy, so I will show him on my roster, if he is not, then that is more money to play with. I will re-sign Glendening but start him in GR along with Jurco because they can safely start there without losing them, and they will get call ups all season long. I then sign Brad Boyes, Tim Thomas and Matt Niskanen via UFA to round out my roster. Zetterberg ($6M) - Datsyuk ($7.5M) - Franzen ($3.9M) Ladd ($4.4M) - Weiss ($4.9M) - Boyes ($2.5M) Miller ($1.3M) - Helm ($2.1M) - Abdelkader ($1.8M) Nyquist ($950) - Sheahan ($1.1) - Tatar ($1.1) Callahan ($950) Kronwall ($4.7M) - Ericsson ($4.2M) Bogosian ($5.1M) - Niskanin ($4.1M) Smith ($1.2M) - Dekeyser ($2.5M) Lashoff ($725) Howard ($5.2M) Thomas ($2.5M) Giving them roughly $1.2M for callups...if Franzen retires add his $3.9M to that and bring up Jurco for the season...
-
That is it...this guy obviously cannot get his head healthy. He needs to hang em up. Either that or LTIR for the rest of the season and re-evaluate this summer. If he cannot play, he cannot play. No use in taking up a valuable roster spot and $3.9M that can go towards making this team better. He is done, head is gone. If he gets another hard hit, he may be scrambled eggs. Retire Franzen...call it. Lets move on... ...guess they will recall Sammy now?
-
Hopefully Holland and Babcock do the right thing and play the right people. Its too bad that these kids have exemptions left in them because that is the only reason they will be returned to GR. When all healthy, this is what your roster SHOULD look like (without trading anyone) Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Franzen Abdelkader - Weiss - Alfredsson Nyquist - Helm - Tatar Miller - Sheahan - Eaves Andersson unfortunately it will be: Z -D - Franz Cleary - Weiss - Alfie Nyquist - Helm - Bertuzzi Miller - Andersson - Abdelkader Tatar/Eaves ...which would put them $1.1M OVER the cap, so they would have to send Eaves back down and his $1.2M. So they would have this crappy lineup and only $100,000 in cap space.

it's my belief that this off season Holland NEEDS to show he has a set or his fine standing reputation in this organization will start its downward spiral...
-
if that is all it took, I would be super happy! But since Philly was willing to give up 4 first round picks for him when the signed the RFA contract, it just may take more... Kindl, Almqvist, Andersson, Nyquist our 1st in 2014. If that was the price, I would still do it. ...although I am liking Nyquist, but it would take a HIGH prospect for sure and if I am keeping two of Jurco, Tatar or Nyquist...sorry Nyq. although this type of deal may pee off the remaining Swede's. Waive Sammy, trade Almqvist, Nyquist AND Andersson? wow, Henrik wouldn't be too happy with Kenny...

Something ain't right in Hockeytown? reminds me of Aerosmith..."Something's right with the world today and everybody thinks it's wrong..."
-
exactly my point, they're hurt, so they are out. Makes sense, but they WON'T be out of the Olympics. If their #1 priority is the Wings, they should also sit out the Olympics to make sure they get healthier in order to help their #1 priority. But, as I mentioned, for most Europeans, the National Team IS their #1 priority everyday of the week and twice on Sunday...
-
now that I look at it, it's actually from October. But hey, if they were mentioning it at the start of the season, just think how much they may entertain the idea now!!! Preds are bottom dwelling the NHL and with the return Weber could bring, they could have a nice group of players/picks to start that climb back up. They could re-build their D around Jones... I am just saying, if Nashville is selling, I hope Holland is the buyer!
-
Bet they don't sit out ANY Olympic games due to not wanting to risk their health so they can return to the Wings as soon as the Olympics are over. Fact is, in the NHL they still get paid when injured, if they're injured for the Olympics they cannot play... If Z and Pav were injured enough to sit out NHL games so to not get even more injured, they too would opt out of the Olympics to not get injured further. Especially if what you said is true of them seeing the success of the Wings as more important than the Olympics...yet, they are sitting out now and playing in the Olympics...what if they get injured in the Olympics? No biggie, they'll just sit out more NHL games and collect their paycheck... ...lets not derail this thread though. I understand your point, but you have to see the skeptical person's point as well. IF the Wings are more important, sit out the Olympics and get healthy. But, they aren't.

just wanted to get it written down...Nashville trading Weber is already being tossed around the media, why not Detroit? http://www.thehockeynews.com/articles/53972-should-preds-trade-shea-weber-the-answer-may-surprise-you.html
-
I prefer Sheahan, but as stated Andersson has to clear waivers to be sent down. Although I have no problem packaging Andersson in a deal on draft day for something we REALLY need... Sheahan will be here next season no matter what (unless he is traded, but that would be dumb.) so there are decisions to be made, to say the least!
-
I am going to be one of the first to have it written down. This summer, Ken Holland will pursue and most likely attain the services of Shea Weber. Nashville didn't like that contract to begin with and they are really riding the bottom of the NHL and will look for a new direction. Babcock will spend the Olympics schmoozing Weber and talking up the direction of the Red Wings, and when the Wings make the playoffs for the 23rd straight season this will solidify Weber's decision to want to come to Detroit. The price will be hefty, but it will involve our 1st round pick this season to give Nashville TWO picks in the top 17. It may include some guys that we do not want to lose, but for Weber, the price is worth it...
-
when it comes to priority, representing your country is way above the NHL when it comes to players, ESPECIALLY Europeans. I have NO doubt that Pav and Hank are "resting" for the Olympics or if you want, making sure they do get re-injured before they represent their countries. This is not a knock of them, it's just fact. Is it wrong? From a fan's POV yes, a fan of the NHL that is. Espcially in Russia and Sweden, hockey there is as important as living, and with the Olympics in Russia this year, Pavel Datsyuk would become an even bigger National Hero if they won the Gold. He is already regarded as the top Olympian in that country...there is no way they would risk re-injuring any part of their body, upper or lower, and miss out on the Olympics.
-
We all know who SHOULD be sent packing, but in realty the three that will most likely be sent to GR are Sheahan, Jurco and Glendening. Tatar is not exempt from waivers and would absolutely get snatched up... Although, Holland surprised to bajeevies out of me by waiving Sammy, so waiving Bert and Cleary is not out of the question. I do think, since Philly wanted Cleary for $3M over the summer, they would most certainly give us a conditional pick for him at his current salary. Although Cleary does have a NTC, he showed some interest in playing in Philly, so he may waive it to go there. If he just got sent through waivers, he probably would rather play for a playoff chance than get claimed by Buffalo or Edmonton... Speaking of waivers and stuff, notice that all the UFA's that Holland signed two summers ago are gone, so to speak. Tootoo waived, Sammy waived, Cola bought out. He atoned for those mistakes (although I do think Tootoo should be here, its just Babcock dumb ass that won't play him) so maybe he will atone for the mistake of re-signing Cleary and Bertuzzi. A (Red Wings) Nation holds its breath!
-
if Cleary is in another game, fire Babcock... They lose because once they get momentum and excitement they send Cleary out to slow it all down. Come on groin pull!
-
getting sick of these china doll Swedes...its ridiculous.
-
gotta love Babcock...where was Z tonight?
-
waive Cleary tonight....he sucks so bad he makes the ice too soft for others to skate on...
-
this team with Cleary=failure....
