keep playing the old pukes...

one down, two to go...

Callahan will get his cup of coffee next season one way or another. He is out of exemptions so he will either be on our club, traded to another NHL team or claimed off waivers. I prefer he be a Red Wing.

Quincey for Iginla... Kindl, Almqvist, Ferraro, 2nd for Brad Boyes and Kulikov, Jovo

I think we are the Kings of the 1 point games this season.... -

this just goes to show we need an impact goalie...elite. Monster NOR Howard are it. Howard is a great goalie, but not elite and not great enough to steal games. Too bad the asking price for Miller is too high...rumored 2 1st's a 2nd and an elite prospect... -

Hmmmm, yet Cleary and Bertuzzi will still get icetime over these guys when health returns... I hope that Babcock and Holland are getting their eyes awoken right now. There is no time like the present to go with the kids.... -

just a random thought, I will never quite look at Crèam of Tatar in the same way ever again... -

...not to burst your bubble, but even though we are loving how good Jurco, Sheahan and the likes of Eaves are playing, the sad reality is, when Wings get healthy, they will ALL be back in GR, even Eaves. Can't waive Bert or Sammy or Cleary now can we... -

...and just as I rant, they tie it up, but seriously, I think we are all tired of this crap and are all in pain watching the Winged wheel play in the basement... -

I am really heartbroken that my once powerful Red Wings have fallen this far from grace because of Babcock and Holland. Hockey Zues, please, I beggeth of you, do not let this team become the scourge of the NHL again... It's time now to shake this team at its core! If this same team steps on the ice next week, it's over. Heaven forbid this same team skates together after the trade deadline. If nothing is done to reclaim our dominant stronghold over the NHL, both Holland AND Babcock must be fired. Waive Cleary and Bertuzzi today, don't even wait 0:001 after the final buzzer sounds. Trade Q, trade K, trade prospects, I am even getting on board with trading Nyquist and Patterson to get this ship back on course. I have never been so mad than I am today. Back in 1999 the Wings gave Petr Klima a contract so he could play for the Wings again and retire a Red Wing. It's time they do the same for Fedorov, he is 100X better than half the crap on the ice right now... -

every time Hossa scores on us, Ken Holland looks down the press box row and gives Franzen the stink eye...yes the press box. Damaged goods. I still maintain that re-signing Franzen and dinking around with Hudler, then letting Hossa walk instead was the beginning of the downfall of the current Red Wings... damn, can Chicago PLEASE use a buyout on Hossa this summer....PLEASE! -
I am neither here nor there on this trade, but what irks me is, once again, other teams not named Detroit are making deals to try to better their situation. Sometimes the whole 'home grown' excuses to keep a player gets on my nerves...in hindsight you see how that worked out with Franzen over Hossa.

I made my move last June...from Detroit to Hart... anyway, I still maintain that the ONLY team that would have ANY interest in Franzen would be Vancouver. The contract albatross would have to be partly footed by Detroit though. If he cannot get healthy enough to play, then he needs to retire or get bought out. Quincey, Kindl and Almqvist are defensemen that all could and possibly will be moved if the right deal came along. Other prospects that I would entertain moving would be Ferraro, Pulkkinen, Aubry, Coetzee, Parkes, Fournier and Nestrasil. The two of those guys I would be reluctant to move is Ferraro and Pulkkinen, but in order to get something you need to give up something. I could only imagine what a package of Franzen, Almqvist and our 1st round pick would garner us in return from Vancouver. I know Holland has always been interested in Edler, but he has a pretty expensive contract considering and if the Wings had to retain some of Franzen's salary it would pretty tough to make the deal this season. Some players I would be interested in: VAN: Burrows, Booth, Edler. FLA: Boyes, Kulikov, Jovo. CGY: Stepniak, Cammalleri. EDM: Smyth, Hall, Yakupov BUF: Moulson, Ott, Erhoff, Myers, Ryan Miller WPG: Wheeler, Ladd, Bogo, Byfuglien, Seto CAR: Malhotra, Lyles NYI: Vanek, Visnovsky (speaking of NYI, they are still paying Alexi Yashin a salary...sheesh) ...those are just from some of the teams that are further out of the playoffs than us(minus VAN.) OF course there would be players I would take from other teams (Weber, B. Richards, Girardi, Stastny, Yandle) but I don't think those guys will actually get moved before summer, or I should say, I would be surprised if they are, because ANYTHING is possible...

I didn't want to make a thread for this, these guys are both 2013 draft picks and are both big defensemen. I was looking for some info on Mitch Wheaton and stumbled across this: ....it was also mentioned above that Tvrdon is now a Kelowna teammate of Wheaton's. McNulty currently has 27 points in 44 games for the Prince George Cougars.

we don't need a top 5 pick. the return in trade would pay instant dividends. IMO.
-
With Howard going down, Monster with injuries issues, we may see a combo of Mrazek and Coreau sooner that we think. Not saying it will affect us too much (since we aren't playing good anyhow) but it could drop us further out of the playoff giving us a higher draft pick, possibly a top 5. That pick could and probably would get us an impact player in return if traded in a package. Nyquist, Almqvist, Kindl and a Top 5 1st rounder would garner a pretty nice return! With the amount of talent in the pipeline, unless there is a slam dunk kid in the top 5-10, it probably makes more sense to trade the pick...
-
any updates on Franzen? Is he close to returning? It almost getting to trade deadline and if he isn't going to be healthy, that roster spot and $4M can go a LONG way in acquiring much needed help to make the playoffs!
-
looks like we should have traded Jimmy for that top pairing defenseman before yesterday. so, I guess we might get to see Coreau in the lineup now? I honestly think these injuries are going to be the undoing of our playoff streak...just too many.
-
Every single Griffin that has come up to Detroit has proven that they are better night in and night out than BOTH Cleary and Bertuzzi...instead of sending Jurco and Sheahan back to GR when the health picks up, waive Bert and Cleary...and fire Babcock. He has worn out his welcome.
-
...not looking good...
-
Don't forget you are also adding Almqvist and our #1 this season, which could be a top 10 if they don't get things in gear!
-
...again, I can see them going "in house" next season, especially if there aren't any trades available to us. Reading some of the rumor sites, once again the vaunted Ales Hemsky to Detroit rumor is starting to make its rounds. Also I've read Brad Boyes, Mike Cammalleri and Lee Stempniak are possible targets as well. I am neither here nor there on any of those. But, if in fact a trade happens, here is my opinion of players/prospects that would most likely get moved in a deal. Take it with a grain of salt because really nobody is going to take our roster scraps for anyone, but that being said, the most likely guys IMO that would be moved: Kyle Quincey Jakub Kindl Jordin Tootoo Drew Miller (possibly to Buffalo) Landon Ferraro Gustav Nyquist Teemu Pulkkinen Adam Almqvist Corey Emmerton to a lessor extent, due to lack of development, but could be in a package or even just stockpiling some late round picks: Willie Coetzee Louis-Marc Aubry Trevor Parkes Gleason Fournier ...now I am NOT saying trade all those guys, but moves will need to be made in order to have roster spots the next two years when the likes of Sheahan, Ferraro, Almqvist, Callahan are out of exemptions this summer and JarnKrok, Jurco and Pulkkinen are out of options next summer... If Holland makes some deals or signs a UFA or two, I fully expect Sheahan, Jarnkrok and Jurco to be on this team for a VERY long time. Of the guys I mentioned that will be out of exemptions this and next summer, those three are the most likely future Red Wings of the rest of them...Tomas Tatar is also a guaranteed Red Wing to start next season as well as Nyquist as long as he is not packaged for something we need! edit: If you packaged Jakub Kindl, Adam Almqvist and Gustav Nyquist, you might get yourself a pretty good player in return. Same with a package of Quincey, Ferraro, Pulkkinen... In YOUR opinion, what kind of player could you see coming back for a package of: Kindl, Almqvist, Nyquist, 2014 1st round pick...

its the uncle Gary curse...for all you fans that wished injuries on Crosby or any of the penguins...curse your team and your little dog too!

ie...Helm. if its a choice between Tatar or Nyquist....keeping Tatar. I'd like to keep both, but if one has to go...
