Igor Larionov made us a great team, and was VERY instrumental in all of our Cups, but man did I miss Ray Sheppard...

March 5th, 1991: to NYR: Joe Kocur, Per Djoos to DET: Kevin Miller, Jim Cummins, Dennis Vial damn we sure missed that Djoos guy! edit: Although, we then traded Miller for Ciccarelli the following year, so all was good.

already mentioned, but none worse than the Oates/McLean for Federko/McKegney... in hindsight, it kind of re-burrs my behind that we didn't re-acquire Fedorov in 2007 or 2008 for Filppula... Fedorov could have retired where he belonged and we could have done away with 5+ years of "reaching potential" only to lose him for nothing as a UFA...

I talked about this briefly in another thread ironically.... http://www.letsgowings.com/forums/topic/75015-jim-nill-takes-red-wings-director-of-amateur-scouting-to-dallas/page-2#entry2428353 Plus we had this thread awhile ago... http://www.letsgowings.com/forums/topic/70322-fedorov-and-bure/#entry2204085

Just say no to Cleary....not for 3 years, not for 2, not for 1 and not ever! It's time to move on...

I thought the same, but capgeek shows the caphit at $5.5M....now whether or not that is his actual cap hit, that is why the folks are yelling about it. They look at capgeek, see the caphit at $5.5M and then react. If $5.5M is not his caphit, then why doesn't capgeek show his hit correctly?

I feel I need to insert a mandatory reference to Johan Franzen here...we cannot even give up on someone with three bad playoffs! So why would we sour on Ryan after ONE. I would have loved to have Ryan here, hell I have been formulating trades for a year now, but for some reason Holland wasn't interested...or maybe Anaheim wanted WAY more from Detroit than they settled for from Ottawa...that happens ALL the time.

Detroit is posturing itself to acquire that top defensemen IMO. They obviously are not going to let Smith, Nyquist OR Andersson walk via RFA and with only $2.3M left in capspace, they will need to trade some players away to get below the cap by October. I had heard that the reason the didn't buyout Sammy is that he was injured and they couldn't. This will most likely also prevent him from being traded, who wants a healthy Sammy, let alone an injured one? I think Holland waits a bit to see if Helm gets the go ahead to play before he trades some depth. If Helm gets the A O.K. for full speed ahead, I can see Emmerton being traded for sure, although his salary is VERY cheap and manageable. You have to shed Sammy's salary somehow, it's a no brainer, also you have to dump Q. That opens up $6.75M more space. If Brunner fell out of favor with the Wings for his disappointing season (which I though went well, and a great playoff) then Q had to REALLY disappoint them, one would think. The emergence of Kindl last season (who I was more than ready to ship off) makes Q expendable, IMO... It's my opinion that Sammy and Bert get buried LTIR, Q and Emmy (plus more) get traded in a deal for a top defender and I do believe that Brunner will be back. For pete's sake, he was 5th in scoring this year and 3rd in playoff scoring, leading with 5 goals. It makes no sense that he would be let go...unless the rumored $2.5M he is asking for is wrong and he wants more...Cleary should absolutely walk or take a spot in the office somewhere... Now, who is acquired is a different matter. For one, I don't even know who is on the block anywhere. Is Visnovsky still wanting out of the Island? I know he re-signed there, but is he happy? Would he be happier in Detroit? Islanders need a backup goalie, maybe package Q and Monster for Visnovsky... that along with the LTIR of Bert and Sammy, would open up $5.6M (adding in Visnovsky's $4.75M) to re-sign the kids... That would give you a roster like this: Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Alfredsson Franzen - Weiss - Brunner Nyquist - Helm - Tatar Miller - Andersson - Abdelkader Eaves - Emmerton - Tootoo Kronwall - Visnovsky Dekeyser - Ericsson Smith - Kindl Lashoff Howard Coreau

Jim Nill takes Red Wings’ director of amateur scouting to Dallas
LeftWinger replied to wheelchairwing's topic in General
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H%C3%A5kan_Andersson_(ice_hockey) Andersson wasn't part of the organization when Lidstrom was drafted... http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2012/05/red_wings_43.html Christer Rockstrom is the man responsible for Lidstrom, Fedorov, Konstantinov and Bure...(although Bure was never a Wing, he was going to be drafted by them in the 5th round in 1989, but the NHL told Detroit he wasn't eligible, then by time the 6th round came around, the NHL deemed he was eligible and before Detroit could take him, Vancouver snatched him up three picks ahead of them.) -

I guess nobody really likes working for Holland...they are prefer Nill. LIfe goes on, but I seriously hope we do not suffer in the long run because of this... -
You cannot judge Alfredsson by his points last season... Alfredsson on a line with Zetterberg and Datsyuk is just sick, period! Now throw Weiss (way better 2nd line center than Filppula) on the 2nd unit with Franzen and Tatar. The combos are numerous... Imagine a line of Franzen - Zetterberg - Alfredsson...nice! (and I hate Franzen.) Then how about Datsyuk - Weiss - Bertuzzi (if healthy.) The only thing that concerns me is who becomes a victim of too many forwards and not enough salary. We still need to sign Nyquist, Andersson and Smith. There is only about $2.3M left in the pot. It is still rumored that Wings want to re-sign Cleary or sign Morrow. Some salary has to go...trade? waive? LTIR? No doubt Wings are a better team today than they were when they lost game 7.
-
at the Ducks getting mad at someone taking a cheapshot on them... Little Neddy Neiderledder was one of the biggest cheapshot artists in the NHL! Alfredsson probably got cheapshot in every game before that one by Scottie the Crottie and was taking out his frustrations...boo hoo Anaheim... I will take Alfie on this team anytime...
-
I will take Alfie and Grabovski or Wiess and Grabovski....dump Cleary and Fil.
-
No brainer....with the likes of Mrazek, Patterson and Coreau under contract, there is just no room for him...One of those three will be Jimmy's backup at some point this season with Monster's injury history...

I still think Holland may go for someone like Penner as the size he is looking for...I could be wrong, but recently Holland is more known for the not so blockbuster UFA signing... I think if Holland bought out Sammy, said goodbye to Flip and Cleary, then inked Brunner, Weiss and Penner (along with our RFA's) that this team would compete very well in the East. It is all about the cash now though. I am not sure they could ink Weiss and Penner AND our RFA's PLUS Brunner...not without trading a couple of forwards for a pick. I suppose he could ink them all and see who is going to start the season on IR, then as folks get healthy make a small deal...with the salaries going the way they are with UFA's, we may just be on the outside looking in...especially with Holland's philosophy on salary...
-
Every off season Holland says he wants to get bigger and he will address it on UFA day...then he says he will address it at the trade deadline...then he says he will address it at the draft... well, at least he is addressing it at the draft. He will never attract the players if he doesn't want to pay market value or term. I am not faulting him for not trying or what he offers people and trying to save a buck or year, but when 10 teams out there are offering twice as much term (ie Lecavalier's contract) you have to take the risk if you want the player. Losing Suter didn't really hurt us, and I don't think losing out on Vinny will either, but if Holland wants to make this team better, he is going to have to pay up sooner than later...the same team minus Val and Cola isn't going to get it done...
-
Same with Parise...he had one season of over 40 goals and look at the deal he got...he barely sniffed 100 points once. I am far from a fan of Sidney's, but he only makes $1.2M more than Parise....look at his totals...he at least earns his paycheck. Clarkson has 170 points in 426 games and a career -32...he wants how much?
-
Smith is going to be good. He made typical Rookie mistakes in the playoffs. He BY FAR did not cause us to lose to Chicago...our lack of scoring did that. We scored 10 goals in the first 4 games and only 5 the next three... The D was green, yes, but we lost games 6 and 7 by one goal each. Only scored 1 goal in games 5 and 7...all elimination games. I like Smith, I hope is here to stay...we gambled on Ericsson and look how long we waited for Kindl to resemble a NHL defenseman...Smith is worth the same gamble.

With all due respect, Hasek was a trade and no one else wanted Robitaille, not even LA. Hull didn't sign until August, so he didn't have many suitors either...and we were shunned by the #1 UFA that year, Roenick. I do hear you though, it was nice when players wanted to come to Detroit. I do not know what happened to lose our lore, but maybe a Cup or two in the next 4 years would change that...

...at the time, Sammy was an upgrade defensively to Hudler ...at the time Tootoo brought the type of game we were missing since Downey, McCarty were here. Not out fault Babs doesn't like him ...he was better than both McCollum AND MacDonald, so this was an upgrade. ...I don't recall many people liking this signing, ...Bert can be a beast, $2M isn't too much to waste. It turned out paying someone to be injured all year was a waste, but we paid Helm all year too... ...again, at the time White was coming off a solid year. He was well worth it. ...no arguments here! ...Parise was either staying in NJ or going to Minny...Detroit was never an option. Suter agreed to come to Detroit, but it got nixed by his wife and family ties. He will regret his deceision. Agree for the most part, I would keep Bert, he may end up LTIR anyhow, so no cap hit. Also, I would keep Frk, plenty of others you could put in there to get Vanek.

Report: Red Wings out on Lecavalier - signs with Philly 5@4.5 per
LeftWinger replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
The Olsen twins proved last year that players only want the payday....Wisneiwski the year before that...They are going to go where someone pays them the most money (or the longer term giving them more money) and could care less about Lord Stanley. Which is what the league wanted, parity. Vinny in Philly sells tickets...doesn't win it Stanley Cups...and that is all Bettman is worried about, revenue parity around the league. -

Well if Holland is thinking long term, he better not give Cleary $3M for 3 years....as I stated in a different thread, he if gives Cleary $3M and Brunner $2.5M that only leaves $5.2M to sign Andersson, Nyquist and Smith leaving leftovers to sign Weiss.... Weiss won't be coming here for a 75% discount, so Holland best not retain Cleary or Sammy... -
of course Kenny will not pursue him, he won't accept 75% below market value.... not that what he will eventually sign for will be worth it, but Kenny is known for offering way less than other teams...and then overpaying his own garbage.
-
If Holland doesn't buyout Sammy and if he re-signs Cleary for even .30 cents, then this will no longer be an overreaction thread....it will be a legit gripe thread... first, the OP mentioned that Holland held on to Maltby and Draper too long, well I do agree, but Cleary is nowhere near Maltby or Draper, so holding on to him for 3 more years would be committing genocide on this team....
-
Not only that, but not enough money! If Holland gives Cleary $3M and Brunner $2.5M that only leaves $5.2M to resign Andersson, Nyquist and Smith....Weiss will not be coming here. I guess we are looking at the same team minus Cola for next year...Good God Holland! The problem here is why even re-sign Cleary at all? He is 1000000% replaceable! Why retain Sammy? again, 10000000% replaceable! Just when I think Holland is doing something good, I see crap like this and I just shake my head... If Cleary re-signs at all, let alone for $3M, this team is headed in the toilet...
