    Franzen Buyout?

Which is why a change of scenery would probably do wonders for him. If Sammy can go to Vancouver and score 30 goals with the Sedins, Franzen can absolutely go there a get 35+. Would I love a 35+ goal scorer here? Of course! But Franzen is not going to top 30 here, he probably won't even get 30 here. I am not saying Burrows needs a change of scenery, but you have to give up to get. Now, if they wanted to throw us their 1st round pick, I am in too. It's my understanding that Vancouver needs a center though. Franzen was drafted as a center, but I think he is more of a winger now... Whatever, this is why I don't put names in because people think that this the trade that has to happen...who knows what kind of return we'd get for Franzen....I just know that he is useless on our team. His spot and $4M could be used better elsewhere...not that they would trade him, but what if we had to make some cap room for acquiring Weber from Nashville? That $4M would come in handy!

    Franzen Buyout?

No I would rather have the guy that brings more to the game then just scoring in bunches once in a blue moon and then does nothing else to help this team... Both he and Franzen have average .5 PPG over their career's, but Burrows has 1:00 less average icetime, has a 13.9 Shooting percentage compared to Franzen's 11.9%. Burrows has 126 even strength goals compared to Franzen's 102. Burrows has 16 Short handed goals to Franzen's 4, which means that Burrows is more than a one dimensional player that is used in every situation, Franzen is, well, VERY one dimensional. Burrows is a +131 to Franzen's +99 which means for all of the 8 whole points that Franzen has scored more than Burrows, he is on the ice for a ton more goals against (again, referring to his one dimensional play.) Burrows has 825 PIM's to Franzen 325 PIM's which means Burrows is a grittier player who isn't afraid to get in the corners and mix it up instead of just throwing someone's mouth guard to the ice... ...and using your point, Franzen only has 8 total points more than Burrows while playing with TWO, not ONE of the leagues best players... I would gladly sacrifice 8 points to bring in someone who is better defensively, kills penalties, fights for the puck along with scoring 25-30 a season.

    Franzen Buyout?

Last three seasons: Franzen lazy and bored floats air biscuits towards the net, shows up 25% of the season. Burrows gives 100% and actually tries to make plays....

It happens all the time...if a team really wants a player they will make the deal and then offer him the money...Anaheim was just a suggestion. Someone who is in dire need for a 2nd line center would be willing to do so just so they get the exclusive bargaining rights to him before July 5th. It has happened before and will continue to happen. Of course someone with a top 15 pick may not offer their 1st, but someone in the bottom 20 just might... Tootoo did everything that was asked of him and since next season won't be a sprint to the playoffs, he will get even more playing time and have a bigger role on this team.... I too am perplexed why everyone wants to ditch him. I guess they think that every F/A power forward tough guy is going to come flocking to the Wings this July... Tootoo is more valuable to this team than Franzen... HatetheDrake, I don't like getting my hopes up either and that is the most reason why I don't like to drop names too much. When I do suggest names, I usually just say them because they are the type of player I want to see on this team. If we replaced Fil and Franzen with Ryder and Dupuis, I think this team becomes better. But I am not getting my hopes up for those exact two guys. I also like Burrows & Cole, but they would have to be traded for...

That is THREE 1st round picks for us this draft. Obvious buyouts of Bert and Sammy. Re-signed the kids at modest raises. Recalled Tatar. Now, this leaves $18.3M to find offensive TOP 6 help. That should WAY enough cash to get TWO top 6 talents. Who that may be I will leave to your imagination.

    Holland on The Huge Show.

Without getting into what new players should be here. I am going to go with who shouldn't be here: Franzen - Trade Filppula - Trade/Walk Bertuzzi - Buyout Samuelsson - Buyout Quincey - Trade Cleary - Let Go White - Let Go Miller - ONLY because Eaves is already signed for another year, and they are basically the same players. But if Miller is willing to come back to be a 13th/14th guy, then that is ok. Obviously re-sign Brunner, Nyquist, Smith, Andersson & Kindl. Like I said, I don't know nor want to discuss WHO we get in return for Franzen, whether it be a player or pick. I am all for getting a couple more picks this draft if we could get another 1st and 2nd for Filppula and Franzen. Trade Filppula to Anaheim for their 1st and Franzen & Quincey to Dallas for their 1st. That would work. With those two trades along with some modest raises for the kids, we would have nearly $17M in cap space to fill in the roster. That includes have all of Brunner, Nyquist, Smith, Andersson and Tatar up. Now that leaves 2-3 forward roster spots to complete the roster and if you cannot get TWO top 6 gunners for $15M to $17M then something is wrong.
  7. I think he should be given at least $7.5M a season. I would even give him $8M. He is worth every penny of it. He is a top 5 player in this league and deserves to be paid as such. Unless he tells Holland he will take less money to stay here, I don't even want to hear a fart out of Holland that sounds like "hometown discount." Holland needs to get a #1 scorer to put on Dats line (who that is remains to be seen with buyouts coming up) and make Dats the happiest guy in the NHL. He needs a scorer and a grinder/tough guy on his line....remember the days of Probert/Yzerman/Gallant? All three guys had career years paying together. Get Dats a scorer and a tougher guy who will defend him at all cost and we are in business.

Wings interested in Stalberg and Bickell

I say pass on both of these guys...plenty better out there.

    Franzen Buyout?

This is a heated debate that I mostly chose to stay out of because everyone and their uncle's know my opinion of Franzen... Folks who hate him, like me, hate him and aren't going to change their minds. Folks who defend him, can only say that his cap hit is great for a player who scores in the 20's. Let's look at it this way: Franz's cap hit is $3.9M, we currently have $11.8M in cap space next season with the need to re-sign Brunner, Andersson, Nyquist, Smith and Kindl all at nice raises. I am really hoping that Filppula gets traded at the draft or just walks, because paying him would take away from that cap space too and we will NEVER be able to get a legit #1 scorer then. Unless we make a trade. (Which I hope we do trade Franzen.) Considering his cap hit, sure $3.9M is a good hit right now, and after paying our kids there won't be much left for that scorer (I would say it'll take about $6M of that $11M to resign the kids, leaving $5M for upgrading our offense. Take away Franzen's $3.9M and all of a sudden you have nearly $9M to find that #1 guy. Buyout Sammy and Bert and gives you even more. and BTW, there is plenty of better players out there who can outscore Franzen that can be had for $3.9M. Pascal Dupuis being one of them. Alex Burrows only makes $600K more than Franzen and is way better... For what Franzen brings to the game, he is NOT worth his cap hit. Just because some owners are willing to WAY overpay for someone else who scores 25 goals, doesn't mean that its the going rate. Franzen's game garner's him $2M a season at the most. Right now, Abdelkader brings more to this team than Franzen does... This team WITH Franzen is going nowhere. Holland should be on the phone right now with his buddy Nill or the Cunucks...those are the only teams I think would take on Franzen. If we keep him, it will hurt us more than it helps. I could see him MAYBE staying if he stays in the bottom six, but really, our bottom six would suffer with him as well... Trade him or buy him out. We can use the roster spot and the $4M.

An open letter to the Western Conference

Very nice post! One thing you could have put in there though... Dear Western Conference Teams, You are very welcome for all the revenue we brought into your buildings! I am sure you will miss it! edit: Is Columbus going East too?
  11. Kenny must have assured him that he will have a supreme scorer on his line soon! Great news! This will solidify his legacy in Detroit. Soon he will be passing Fedorov in many statistical categories...

ANTHONY MANTHA F 6'4 190 L Sept. 16/94 Val-d'Or QMJHL ...if any of the bolded players are available and Holland actually takes one of them, I would be VERY happy with him! I see on that list that our boy McCarron has up'd his stock in this draft. I sure hope he is available in the 2nd round to us... I know we talk about size up front and our need for scoring, but I am telling you, that Santini is very interesting. Right handed shooting defenseman, 6'2" 207lbs at 18 years old! By time he makes the Wings (if drafted) he will be every bit of 6'4" 225lbs...of course Gauthier is a big at his age too! He could be a huge forward for us in 4 yrs.

    2013 Offseason Thread

It's amazing how much this team missed Tomas Holmstrom....not one player on this team came anywhere remotely close to doing what he did. I think we need to replace that presence first and foremost. I wonder about the status of Ryan Smythe. If Homer was here, they'd have scored more power play goals this round. ( of course had some taken away too... )

    2013 Offseason Thread

Trade Franzgelina to either Vancouver or Dallas...those are the only two teams I see taking on those years...either way, adios! I cannot stand him, he lazed around the entire series for the most part and was barely visible when needed. Hossa didn't go lights out either, but you knew when he was on the ice...that being said, I still think the choice was wrong, but I don't want either of them on this team, we need a new direction. TWO top 6 scorers are needed.
  16. Just as well rather have been swept, no all we get to hear about is the epic comeback by the Hawks...gurgle gurgle... Somewhere in New York City I can picture Uncle Gary:
  17. Filppula - Goodbye Frangelina - Goodbye (see ya in Vancouver) Cleary - Goodbye Bertuzzi - Goodbye Samuelsson - Goodbye This team is a dire need of TWO top 6 scorers....and someone to give Kronwall a blanket party to wake his ass up! Hello! You are the #1 guy here, PLAY LIKE IT! on a side note, so glad I don't have to stop complaining about "The Choice"
  18. No, he was hit from the side...
  19. Major choke job after being up 3-1....Jimmy was responsible for a ton of this playoff run, yet gives up a really soft goal to end it. He has to make that save. No way this choke was his fault though.. I point the finger at two people that I do not want to see in a Wings jersey ever again...Franzine and Filppula.... Everyone else, thank you for a great surprising season!
  20. Oh, but Pillsbury did mention it, but of course there was nothing wrong with that in his eyes...I cannot wait for Detroit to get the winner and watch the classless Chicago fans liter the ice like the fools they are!
  21. Oh geez, NBC says the call was wrong...can they be any more obvious the slappy's that they are? Oh boo hoo, the Hawks got another goal called back....Boo Hoo! Terrible call, terrible timing....I am over it already...I am about to puke
  22. No matter the outcome, Johan Franzen has no business being on this team....he is so horrible.
  23. You have one more game to make me a believer Franzen...let's show up for this one, eh?
