gdt WCSF Game 1 GDT : Red Wings 1 at Blackhawks 4, (CHI leads series 1-0)
LeftWinger replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
nice to see the shoe on the other foot for once! How many periods have the Wings played like that the last 22 years? How many young goalies have they made look like the Berlin Wall? I say its about time! Now come on out a poke in a couple of sloppy goals and run out of there with a game 1 win! -
1-0 Hossa so far....Hossa has also be a huge threat almost everytime he was on the ice....I have noticed Franzen a few times, so he is doing pretty well too, he just needs the rest of his team to step it up some so he can try to equal Hossa's goal... Still hoping for a Wings win!

Smith is struggling...maybe White will get a shot this series... Anyhow....we have that Average Goalie to thank for stealing that period. Chicago is showing why they were the best, BUT we are still there. Gotta come out and get a bit of puck luck.... Hawks have killed off 20 straight PP's...law of averages says it's time to give one up. -

Because only most the fans in the world like the Wings, the corporations, NHL, ESPN, NBC, hell the White House, they like to throw jabs at them every chance they get. Oh well, can't take away the last 22 years, you could put the Winged wheel on a down syndrome kid (no offense) and it wouldn't matter...4 Cups in the last 22 years 6 Finals, 6 Presidents Trophies (no one else has more than 2,) 16 years with 100 points or more... Hey haters, You Can't Touch This! -

One thing our D will have to work on next season is getting the puck to the net...It seems nobody can get a shot through the net, everything gets blocked....last series as well.... Sure glad Brunner tied it up....gotta stay out of the box... -
Well he didn't use the actual #0... http://www.foxsportsdetroit.com/nhl/detroit-red-wings/story/Babcock-Zero-chance-Datsyuk-will-leave?blockID=902537&feedID=3701

Well, he was this confident about DeKeyser too! I like! Now, Mr. Holland, GET SOMEONE TO PLAY ON HIS LINE!!!! A #1 SNIPING SCORER!!! Make a trade, buyout some players, bury some players so whatever it takes to make that cap room available to get that #1 guy!!! We are enjoying our team....but We DON'T Like Our Team....It needs change, it needs scoring, TWO scoring lines would be GREAT! I am being honest when I say, I do not remember this happening....I know he played in Russia during the lockouts, but I don't believe he ever LEFT Detroit to play in Russia. Considering they cannot negotiate with him until July 5th, that would be kinda hard to do....but I like where you are going with the idea!

Meh, Ok 5 years at $4M per....I will take it!

Does Toews kill penalties?

That is good news! No one would dare pick up that lengthy contract, eh? He passes through waivers, becomes a UFA and signs with us on the cheap! Then we trade Fil to Dallas for Cole and then sign Pascal Dupuis... Then I awake and wonder why I am not a GM, because all of my trades make so much sense! /sarcasm/
-
This is true, as long as he doesn't give Val more than 1/3 of it... also if he wants to get a sniper (which the whole world knows we need) he will have to cut salary as well....(trade, buyout, bury)

ECSF : (7) Ottawa Senators vs (1) Pittsburgh Penguins
LeftWinger replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Yep....Pens having pretty good luck tonight...I hate the Pens. Looks like we are stuck with Edzo and crew for our games since Strader is calling the Pit game...sure wish we could've drawn Strader instead... Dupuis is a UFA come July....I think he would look nice in a Wings sweater.... -
Heading to JLA for the first time ever for Game 3 - few questions
LeftWinger replied to DntDrnkThWtr's topic in General
Don't worry...especially if your girl is a Wings fan, they may chirp her more than you about why she is with you. Hopefully it doesn't get to the point (from the drunks) to where he need to defend your girlfriend honor. If it got that bad, trust me, 99% of the Wings fans in your section would toss the drunk out on his ass before you. We are pretty respectful as long as the opposition fans are. You will enjoy the game (not too much hopefully!) I was at the JLA for the first Det v. Pit game after the 2008 Cup finals and my two kids, my wife and myself sat in a section that was ALL Pens fans (not by design, trust me.) There were probably 40+ to our little group of 4. I actually thought I was going to take some heat from everyone there considering that I was in the enemy section. Nothing, we actually had great conversations with them they took photos of my family with the JLA ice behind us, there wasn't even much chirping going on....they did comment on how much more nice the crowd was compare to Calgary... Just go there watch the game, poke fun with your girl and don't be an ass and you have ZERO to worry about... -

You almost fooled me! I thought the game was today because of this being up so early! Let's Go Wings! Stuff those birds! -
I will just put it out there that I did not start nor suggest this thread. I just said in the other thread that if we beat the Hawks or if Franzen outscores Hossa win or lose, I will never complain about "The Choice" again. I may still complain about Franzen or wish for a trade, but the comparison and choice I wanted will never be mentioned. That being said, again if the Hawks buyout Hossa I am praying that he becomes a Red Wing for the next 8 years and we can have both of these guys! Sniper problem soved...debate over!

If they buy out Hossa, Holland best be the first one on the phone! Offering him $4M a season for 8 years...

22 Consecutive Playoff Appearances Recapped in 22 Minutes

at the line of McCarty - Kennedy - Probert....all be damned, I teared up in 1997 when Stevie raised the Cup and I just did again! Absolute #1 Stanley Cup win in my lifetime! -
For the money, I would love to have Kovalchuk on this team to pay with Dats. Long contract though.... edit: I know he is blamed for being lazy sometimes, but I would chose him over Ovie because of the hits to the head and ill advised penalties that Ovie tends to take.... Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Kovalchuk

Amen! That season, not only was Holland debating which one to keep, he also was holding $3.5M aside for Hudler to decide what he wanted to do. OF course we all know Hudler turned down the $3.5M offer and ran off to Russia only to get awarded a lessor contract of $2.8M. We also lost Sammy to Vancouver for $2.5M per season. Then they had to sign Bertuzzi and J. Willy later that summer to try to make up for losing both Hossa and Hudler. Bertuzzi an Williams both signed for $1.5M for one season so technically they could have signed Franzen for his $3.9M cap hit and instead of holding out $3.5M for Hudler and giving Bertuzzi and Williams $1.5M, they could have had Hossa for his $5.2M hit... So, Franzen and Hossa would have cost $10.1M combined... Hudler (offer) Franzen. Betuzzi, Williams cost us $10.4 and probably another Cup. The only thing I am not sure of is whether or not Bert and Willy were signed using Hudler's money after he bolted or not...if that were the case then no, we could not have had both Franzen and Hossa. We just didn't have the Cap space...I know Holland always wanted Bertuzzi back so I think he was going to sign him anyway. But looking back in the archives at capgeek, the Wings had $0 available in cap space that year so, I do think that Bert and Willy were signed using Hudler's offer. Too bad too, could you imagine this team with BOTH Hossa and Franzen still on it? As a matter of fact, that year the Wings finished with 112 points they were 3rd overall in points and Franzen had a career year with 34 goals among 59 points and Hossa had 40 goals among 71 points. Would have been great to keep both! Damn you Uncle Gary!!!! Of course if a couple of other happened, Maltby retired early, we didn't sign Brad May, maybe, just maybe it could have happened...the World May Never Know©!

Well considering the guy above is pretty new to these parts, he/she obviously doesn't understand what my statement meant in respect to these forums. No, one series does not end a debate in general and I am still of the opinion that Hossa is a better player than Franzen. Even if We win and Franzen outscores Hosse, my personal opinion will still be that... BUT the folks that have been around here since "The Choice" know exactly what my statement meant and means to me. Whether or not I think Hossa is a better player, if we beat Chicago or Franzen outscores Hossa (win or lose) I will never compare them again, or complain about "The Choice." ^ Why so serious all the time? I feel like I get lectured everytime I read one of those posts....
