GDT WCQF Game 1 GDT : Red Wings 1, at Ducks 3. (Anaheim leads, 1-0)

The Mule didn't get his first shot on goal until the 3rd period...that is not pretty good, unless you are talking about Franzine...we need playoff Franzen now...unless his 7 goals in 8 games was his hot streak and now its time to float some more, because he certainly didn't do too much tonight...but he wasn't the only one. -

I see your point, but if they go down 2-0 playing the same they did tonight, it may be too late. If the April Wings show up and they still go down 2-0 then at least their was energy and effort. Nobody outside the top 3 played like they wanted to win. Quincey, Kindl and Ericsson all played bad and gave the puck away numerous times...We cannot have this team continue to play this way...just getting here is not the goal. Sure it was nice to keep the streak alive and I do appreciate the effort this decimated team gave to get to this point, but now is not the time to relax. This performance will show what kind of Captain Hank is. The paint should be melting off the locker room walls from the foul language Babs and Hank should be spewing right now. 9 of the 12 forwards played with no energy and a couple of players took untimely dumbass penalties...and that fan should be tarred and feathered for throwing the Octo at that time...Anaheim just iced the puck, wasn't going to call the timeout and then the fan threw the Octo on the ice giving them a rest and then they called the TO to get even more rest which resulted in the faceoff control and empty net goal... -

I am not that impressed with Nyquist...sorry guys. I am willing to bet he gets the scratch for Bertuzzi...and if Sammy comes in, Eaves or TooToo will be out...I barely even seen Tootoo out there, was he dressed at all? I do believe Brunner needs to be back on a scoring line...he isn't getting much if any offense playing with Andersson and Nyquist. Andersson is a checker and Nyquist is just too green. He is erratic and can't seem to be able to hold on to the puck...Put Cleary on the 3rd line and move Brunner up with Dats and Bert with Filppula... I know its just one game, but cannot afford to go down 2-0 with the same effort as tonight... Z- Pav - Brunner Franz - Fil - Bert Cleary - Andy - Abby Tootoo - Emmerton - Eaves -

Its only one loss, but they definitely lacked energy tonight, the bottom 9 and a couple of defensemen who both cost us a 1st round pick... As long as the April Wings show up, they can still win this series, but if they play like this for the next 3 games, it may be sweep time... -

No energy tonight...reminded me of the February/March Red Wings...Can't win with only one line trying... BTW, 2nd goal was a soft one for Jimmy's standards, Hiller outplayed him when it came to timely saves... Got a feeling we are going to see Bert in game 2...Playoff Franzen did not show up tonight...Filpulla does NOT deserve $5M. Bottom 6 looked bad...Quncey and Kindl looked bad as well... All in all, bad game played by most the team...aint gonna win one playing like that crap and taking dumbass penalties... -
I just wanted to start a topic for us to say Thanks to the Red Wings for providing us with a great regular season despite all the adversities and drama and odds against us! (Thank God, we didn't hear the "Too Old" card this year.) So, despite all of this: Nick Lidstrom retiring Tomas Holmstrom retiring Brad Stuart trade New Asst. Coach Losing out on Parise, Suter, Schultz, Doan and every other "Top" UFA Countless injuries to our Defense creating our youngest average D since Nick and Vladdy were Rookies Gustavsson hurting himself and never really turning into a reliable backup Losing Helm for the season (again) Losing Bertuzzi's experience and Sammy to injury (I am sure that I am leaving something out) But anyway, despite all of this and despite the experts having us out of the playoffs for the first time since I turned 20, THE Detroit Red Wings proved once again, that when it comes to being a perennial winning team in the NHL, nobody does it better! Eat that Olsen Twins! SO, Despite all the above mentioned scenarios that were supposed to have us dwelling at the bottom of the NHL, you guys did it. No matter where you go in the playoffs, this is a winning season and every other team in the league is just shaking their heads right now! Watch out NHL, don't look now, because the Red Wings just rebuilt on the fly and will be back on top sooner than you can say 22 straight years! THANK YOU DETROIT RED WINGS for a regular season to remember! (now lets spoil some parties!)

Lest we forget the great Gordie Howe left Detroit because he wanted more money too? As a matter of fact, the ONLY two guys in the rafters that played their entire career with Detroit is Delvecchio and Yzerman. Fedorov left for the exact same money he was offered by the Wings...which was less than what he was offered earlier in the year when he asked to wait until after the season because of his divorce and agent change...he left Detroit for the same money and terms. Where would you rather be a millionaire, Detroit of Southern California? Obvious answer is obvious.... fact is though, Feds wanted to be here, but he wanted the 5 year deal that was offered before, but Holland yanked that one after Feds ask to wait until after the season...so he left. Lets not turn this into a Feds debate, we all know how passionate we all are on both sides of the fence with him. But, if Pav gets #13 in the rafters so should Feds #91. Either both or neither... IMO Pav deserves it as well as Feds...if Hank last 20+ years, then maybe #40 as well.

Nah, it will be the Ducks, Blackhawks, Canucks then....are you ready? The Maple Leafs. Beating our future conference rival will stoke the fire of the rivalry for the next season, the Winter Classic and beyond!
-
It would be nice!

Looks great, but I don't like the brace on Hank's foot! We don't need any voodoo going on here!
-
Schneider has an undisclosed injury, is day to day, but is a probable starter for game 1. It will be interesting to see if he can go the whole series...either way, I am still going with Vancouver, I just cannot stand the Sharks...bleh!

I agree. Bert needs to spend the season on the LTIR (at least until after the deadline,) Sammy and Cola need to bought out and White (thanks for you service) can leave UFA. That would definitely free up $7.5M to use to our advantage. ( I sure hope Holland doesn't give Fil $5M...) Someone should make a thread about next season's roster and we can get into deep discussion about it! There are a lot of decisions to make this off season for sure. IMO Andersson, Kindl, Brunner, Nyquist and Smith have all earned contracts and raises. Doesn't leave much unless we cut some salary, somewhere... oh and BTW, Holland better draft correctly! I do NOT want to see ANY small skilled soft Euro type players this year, unless its a late round gamble. He needs to go big or go home in the first three rounds! I wouldn't mind seeing what Zykov would be all about, but would rather have Mantha, Rychel or Gauthier....on the D side I would love Santini or Bowey unless there is some miracle out there allowing us to snag Pulock. What we do not need is another leftie on the blueline, we need to draft and develop some righties who are big and mean! Heck, there is another thread idea...the draft predictions. I will stop now as I am derailing my own thread!

Yes but they lived in the area much longer. They moved from Plano, TX when Seth was around 4-5 and stayed in the Denver area until moving back to Texas when Seth was around 12. Popeye was huge in the community and had a lot of foundations in the Denver area. He only played one season there sure, but he was more of a contributor off the court than on. He became a big part of the community during the years he spent living in the Denver area...and you can bet the Avs fans will call Seth a hometown hero for sure...

Awesome predicting! I too would like some lottery numbers, and if I win I will send you a cut! PLUS Red Wings season tickets!

Let's Go Islanders! Clap Clap...clap clap clap... Far fetched scenario, but wouldn't a Detroit v. Isle Cup Final be nice? I sure want to see someone new win it this year if Detroit cannot do it...nobody from the West, but any of the East teams not named Pittsburgh or Boston or Rangers would be fine with me winning if Detroit doesn't make it...and as long as its NOT at Detroit's expense...

most momentum, maybe not, but definitely a team that is on a roll right now and playing its best hockey of the year is Detroit for sure. They lost 5 out of the last 10, but it is how they lost.. 39 Sun, Apr 7, 2013 12:30 PM St. Louis Blues L 0-1 40 Thu, Apr 11, 2013 7:30 PM San Jose Sharks L SO 2-3 41 Fri, Apr 12, 2013 8:30 PM @ Chicago Blackhawks L SO 2-3 42 Sun, Apr 14, 2013 7:30 PM @ Nashville Predators W 3-0 43 Wed, Apr 17, 2013 9:30 PM @ Calgary Flames L 2-3 44 Sat, Apr 20, 2013 10:00 PM @ Vancouver Canucks L SO 1-2 45 Mon, Apr 22, 2013 7:30 PM Phoenix Coyotes W 4-0 46 Wed, Apr 24, 2013 7:30 PM Los Angeles Kings W 3-1 47 Thu, Apr 25, 2013 7:30 PM Nashville Predators W 5-2 48 Sat, Apr 27, 2013 7:00 PM @ Dallas Stars W 3-0 Three SO loses and two 1 goal loses. SO's could've gone either way plus they did get points out of those games. So really they only failed to get points in two of the last ten games and those games were close enough to go either way. Hell, the Calgary loss was on a couple of pooch goals that never should have happened... I would give Detroit the nod as definitely the teams playing their best hockey coming into the playoffs, but if you look at Pitt, sure they sewed up the playoffs a while ago, but it's not like the cruised into them, they won their last 7 out of 10 games including the last 5 out of 7. Chicago won its last 9 out of 12, although good for us Anaheim did lose its last 5 out of 8 games...its going to be a great playoff and as long as we as Wings fans do not expect too much (since we barely made to the dance anyhow) we will enjoy the season as it ends. There is nothing saying that Detroit cannot keep the roll going and upset some teams and possibly win the Cup, this is, afterall, what Uncle Gary wanted when he Preached about parity. Any team can win the Cup at anytime. Look at how Detroit has played against the top 4 teams in the West all season long. They went 6-9 but of those 9 loses 5 of them were OT or SO loses. Not bad considering the decimated team we had all year long. Let's see how our current roster does against Anaheim (Wings in 5 is my prediction as long as they keep paying like they have the last 5-10 games) and go from there. Nothing would be finer than to destroy Anaheim and knock off the big dog Blackhawks in round 2. On its current roll, this team could do it, because I can see both Anaheim and Chicago being caught sleeping while the big Red Wave topples over them. It could and HAS happened, we as Wings fans the last 35+ years know this ALL TOO WELL... A few to consider: 1991 vs. St. Louis, up 3 games to 1 only to lose in 7 1992 vs. Chicago swept by Chicago in Round 2 1993 vs. Toronto 1994 vs. San Jose 1995 vs. New Jersey 1996 vs. Colorado 1999 & 2000 vs. Colorado 2001 vs. LA 2003 vs. Anaheim 2004 vs. Calgary 2006 vs. Edmonton 2012 vs. Nashville ...all of which we were the higher seed and were expected to roll through the opposition. Sometimes it just doesn't happen (more time than not) and you can bet there will be upsets on both sides of the NHL this year as well! Right now, I give Detroit the nod as one of the best playing teams going into the playoffs, if it continues, they will make some noise...

If Datsyuk gets his jersey retired, then Fedorov is a no brainer. Because we wouldn't be talking about 22 straight years, or even anywhere close to that if not for Fedorov...we also wouldn't be talking 3 Cups in 6 years without Fedorov... I know this isn't a debate over Feds/Dats, but I love how folks (and no offense to the OP) bend over backwards to say how much Dats deserves his jersey in the rafters and its ok for him to want to go play somewhere he wants to enjoy his life outside of hockey, yet when it comes to Fedorov and how he is at or near the top of every statistical category for the Red Wings, has won a Hart Trophy and also wanted to go play somewhere he would enjoy his life outside of hockey better, he gets boo'd and shunned and doesn't deserve the same recognition.... I agree with your assessment of Datsyuk, don't get me wrong. I say put them both in the rafters, they have both earned it...but you cannot put Dats up without Feds...

The worst move in Bryz's career was being moved out of Anaheim...

Cute.... ...at the time, Jimmy was playing pretty average. His rebound control was horrible and still is a little suspect. That, if anything, is the one thing that will hurt him. Cannot deny that as the season progressed so did Jimmy and in the end he was a HUGE part of the reason we made it to the playoffs. He needs to play this way a ton now in order to justify his contract. Hope he is up to the task..so far he has done a great job, I hope he keeps it going. But ya, when the thread started he was playing pretty average...no need for personal attacks by calling someone a troll. Whoops!

Shaved this morning....game on!

4. Stay at a Holiday Inn Express the night before....

OoOoOoOoO The rubber match! I like it! I don't think I could take all the Pittsburgh knob-gobbling though....ugh.... I don't want to sound too much like a homer, but I am damn sure on their side until its over! So ya, Detroit in the Cup final is my prediction. Root for them until its over!

Suter has regretted that from day one. Just wait until they out of the playoffs early and don't even make the playoffs next season because they are going to lose some players. They have $9M available cap space, but have at least 8 players to sign including their current $6M goalie Backstrom. Will he take a pay cut to re-sign everyone? I still think that the All-Star is going to be traded or bought out, which would be the only way to clear enough room to keep Backstrom happy and still have most of their team... Suter will wish he signed here, of course I don't miss his salary, and with the emergence of Kindl, I don't think we need him anymore...especially with Diesel coming home... BUT, for giggles this is what he could have been playing with: Suter - Kronwall Ericsson - Dekeyser Quincey - Kindl Smith (Lashoff) He would have been much happier here from a winning standpoint, but the "Man" of the house spoke and she said "We are staying in Minny..." But his loss is our gain, we have a great young D corps and really don't even have a need for him...

I agree...I think if it comes down to it (if Pitt doesn't get upset earlier) this is the year Ovi takes out Cindy Lee....

Ya well, its not like they get paid for what they actually know. They all picked either Chicago or Pittsburgh to win the Cup...uh, really? Let's just take the top two teams from the regular season and choose one....jack wagons. I got an idea, lets take the top two teams and let them play for the Cup, since no other team has a chance or deserves any chance at Chicago or Pittsburgh. At least EJ chose Detroit to beat Anaheim...but come on guys, lets get original. It's easy to pick Chicago or Pittsburgh. I am saying it here and now and guarantee it....NEITHER Chicago NOR Pittsburgh will be in the Finals...
