Selanne hints at retirement still being far off

All true and I am not going to get any hopes up, that's for sure. But if he did entertain the idea of playing elsewhere, it would have to be here....have to! Of course all those what if's and maybe's, if the Wings are going to land top 6 scorer in the off season, I can see them having a better chance landing Iginla than Selanne...and that chance is remote as well.

Selanne hints at retirement still being far off

absolutely, that is why I said that if he only wants to play for the Ducks, he'd have to do it for $1M. He did it for the Avs years ago to try to win a Cup, never said he wouldn't take a discount. Also the thread and article is about him hinting he is not ready to retire and feels he can play for 8 more years, so if he does not want to retire, and doesn't want to play for $1M, he'd HAVE to go elsewhere if he wants to play. And like I said above and below, him and Val being so close (I won't use Best this time) of friends, IF he were to go anywhere else other than Anaheim, it will be to play with his VERY CLOSE friend of whom he has a great relationship with outside of the NHL and Hockey in general. .http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2012/02/breakout_season_for_red_wings.html Maybe BEST wasn't the exact word, but to say you have known someone for a long, long time and are very good friends, that is pretty damn close to being best friends. I would venture to say that while in the States and the NHL, they are best friends..."I've been waiting for this for a long time because I've known Valtteri for a long, long time and he's a very good friend of mine,'' Selanne said. “I always knew he has all the tools This I agree with, I cannot see them changing anything this season unless it's a veteran rental to help them through the playoffs. I can see something happening after the season though, especially if they do not win the Cup. They may be looking for away to change their team a bit, and since Selanne hints at wanting to play, and he will only play in Anaheim, maybe acquiring Filppula would be something that would help them in giving them a legit #2 center to play with Selanne. But they would have to shed at least the $4.5M that Filppula would want and Ryan's $5.1 would make room for sure! But, Selanne would still have to take a discount to play again, but at least they'd have another $600,000 to use for the cap...

Selanne hints at retirement still being far off

Well, then he is going to have to play for $1M then...as of next season they are 8 roster players short with $10.8M to spend. And that would put them right at the cap ceiling. Selanne and Filppula are best friends. They run a school together on the off-season back in Finland and have expressed interest in playing with each other in the NHL. Sure, that doesn't mean he is leaving Anaheim for sure, but if there is ANY team he would leave Anaheim for, it's going to be the Red Wings, so there is at least that outside chance. Like I said, we could always trade Val to them for Bobby Ryan. That would shed $5.1M from them and Ryan would look great in Red & White.

    Mike Komisarek placed on waivers

Komisarek has only played in 4 games this season. I don't know if he has been hurt or if he was scratched all season, either way I would pass on his $4.5M hit. His best season was 19 points back in 06-07. He only has 77 points in 519 career games. Ya, he is big at 6'4" 243lbs. but it's not like he has stats that would show that he uses that size to his advantage either, he is a -15 career and only has 665 PIM's, that is less that 1 minor per game. I know that doesn't say too much, but if he were throwing his body around and clearing out the front of the net, I would imagine he'd have a bit more penalties...maybe not, but I would still pass. Put my money on Dekeyser and/or Sustr as a replacement for Q right now, and as part of our future starting next season. Komisarek's $4.5M will just handcuff us for another season and will inhibit us from getting scoring help...

Selanne hints at retirement still being far off

I just don't think Nyquist is going to be in this organization next year....I could be wrong and they sure can carry 14 forwards so there is definitely room. I just think that he isn't going to be here....sitting in the press box is not where he needs to be... my question is, what # will Abby pick next season? or will Selanne just wear 88? Speaking of numbers, why doesn't anybody want to wear #15? The last one to wear it was Langfeld in 2007, the last regular player was Woolley...strange. Ok back to topic! Either get Selanne here, or trade Filppula + for Bobby Ryan...two great options IMO.

    3/20 GDT : Wild 4 at Red Wings 2

I think it is around the time for Franzen to show up and play instead of Franzine... (Franzine returns for the next 10 games) Wings win 3-1 Franzen, Brunner, Smith.. Parise (from Suter) (because that is just what they do....dammit!)
  7. do you think they still want him? While I cannot deny Franzen's importance to this team in 07 thru 09, Franzine on the other hand has no business on this team today. No, I wouldn't trade the Cup for Edler, but I would trade them Franzine today....I keep Franzen, trade Franzine...

Selanne hints at retirement still being far off

Ok, unless he takes the "discount" to stay in Anaheim, it's time to get him. He has been quoted saying he would love to play with Filppula because they have a ton of chemistry. His words, not mine. I cannot find the quote, but I know I read it last year around the deadline. Anyhow, I am sure Holland would throw $4.5M at Selanne if he wanted to come here. It would also make Filppula more excited to re-sign here and maybe he would come off the $5M that we have heard he is looking for... I just think that having a first line of Filppula-Datsyuk-Selanne would not only be exciting to watch, but they just may get a few more points than what the Cleary-Datsyuk-Abdelkader line was producing. Selanne would instantly make our PP that much better as well. I know he is 42 (Filppula is 30 today, BTW) but he still pays like he is in his 30's and if we could get him for a couple of years it would be great! Filppula - Datsyuk - Selanne Franzine - Zetterberg - Brunner (ya, I know, we are stuck with Franz) Tatar - Helm - Eaves Abdelkader - Andersson - Tootoo Emmerton That lineup next season is fine with me. As long as Franzine returns to his 30 goal form (lazy or not) then we should have no issue with scoring... and yes I know Bert and Sammy are missing. I maintain buying them out or if Bert is in LTIR that works too...then we could buyout Colaiacovo. Sign Dekeyser and Sustr to replace White and Cola... Then hard part is getting him to come here. I know they would both be excited to play together (and the Duck absolutely cannot afford Fil, unless they trade us Bobby Ryan for him (that's another thread! ))

    Datsyuk sitting at 499 assists

One can only hope they do the right thing... It was encouraging that Sergei was (is) going to play at the Winter Fest Alumni game. Baby steps I guess. It would be awesome to have the Russian 5 reunite for that as well...of course Vladdy couldn't play, but to have them all on the ice together at the same time...oh.my.goodness!

4 Forwards that are/may be available, that help us:

Well, I don't know about the four you mentioned in the OP, but if Vancouver is in serious need of a center, I will most definitely take Alex Burrows off their hands for Filppula. But I honestly don't think Holland is going to do anything this deadline. Especially if he picks up a couple of UFA NCAA guys...hint hint Holland... But just for entertainment purposes: to VAN: Filppula, Nyquist, 2013 1st Rd. to DET: Burrows, 2013 1st Rd.
  11. LeftWinger

    Datsyuk sitting at 499 assists

Yes, but if Datsyuk goes up, then so should Fedorov...period.
  12. Just put him and Bert on LTIR and then their cap falls off the books as well as their roster spot. Get someone here to play in the top 6 and center the third line...there are players like that available still....go for it...or don't...
  13. Call it....Helm will be out the rest of the season and playoffs....why risk it? Kenny, do what you have to do, either go with this team or make a deal or a player or picks, whatever. Helm needs to just be done and come back 100% (hopefully) in September... Hell, sign some NCAA UFA's as soon as you can....make some deals or don't...just stop trying to get Helm back when he isn't 100%! Bert and Sammy I could care less about coming back, but keep Helm out until he is 150% if you have too! This team will make the playoffs and that in and of itself will be a winning successful season considering the situation they started the season with and the injuries throughout...

    WMU's season.....

That is fine too. But since Sustr and Dekeyser will be looking for a job where they get NHL minutes, I was trying to make it so they could here... I know you don't want to keep Kindl and make him the #7 guy...and it would not be fair to Laser is Kenny signed these two guys and then sent him back to GR...I know its a business. Hell sign both, keep everyone here and let them rotate and compete for the job! Kronner - Big E Smitty - Danny D Sustr Christian - Laser Kindl/Husky/Coca Cola/White Could always pull a Commodore on White and Husky and trade them for Future's just so they can get a chance to play....somewhere....White may get you a late, LATE round draft pick...

    Perry Re-signs w/ Ducks

You forgot he'd get to play with his countryman Filppula...Win-Win-Win for Teemu! That's a hatrick of wins! He would cure the PP woes that is for sure...

    Perry Re-signs w/ Ducks

Ok, re-sign Val right now and get Selanne this summer! Now they can play together! Filppula - Datsyuk - Selanne
  17. LeftWinger

    Perry Re-signs w/ Ducks

Even better for them, they still have enough to re-sign most of these guys I do believe...not unless Koivu is looking for a big raise along with Steckel...the rest I assume would be fairly easy to fit under the cap after those two...
  18. LeftWinger

    Perry Re-signs w/ Ducks

Koivu $3.8M UFA Selanne $4.5M UFA Steckel $1.1M UFA Palmieri $1.025M RFA McMillan $875K RFA Beleskey $737K RFA Lyndman $3M UFA Lovejoy $525K UFA Current salaries and next years status...they can sign some, but not all with the $10M they will have left over...
  19. LeftWinger

    Perry Re-signs w/ Ducks

I will take that Filppula for Ryan trade now....too bad Ducks won't! Unless they plan on losing Koivu after this season....
  20. LeftWinger

    Perry Re-signs w/ Ducks

I think that price would have been fine for a 50 goal scorer here in Detroit...Damn, I wanted a shot at him too...oh well... Why is that? He is signed through 2015...They have $10M left in cap space AFTER Perry's re-signing. They will be able to keep Koivu and then some....of course it may mean that Selanne has to go, or he will just sign for $1M to keep playing... Ducks are in good shape cap wise for the next couple of seasons...

    Perry Re-signs w/ Ducks

Lets all jump on the Clarkson wagon! He played with Kindl for a season in Kitchener, maybe Jakub can put a good word in!!?!?

awww, Chicken Poop! ok, well we can stop this dream then...who is next on the list?

    WMU's season.....

Good thing about these guys is, nobody can outbid anyone else. There is a rookie cap at $1M plus bonuses with a maximum cap hit. So every team that is interested has to offer them the same amount of money. It just all depends where these guys choose to play.... I am having a conversation with myself!
  24. LeftWinger

    WMU's season.....

ok Kenny, just stop all this madness! Trade Flip for a 1st, Nyquist for a 2nd, Kindl for a 3rd...sign Dekeyser and Sustr....Q is out for the season basically, White is yucky, Cola out, HUskins the backup...forget trying to get a superstar at the deadline...go hard after one or two come UFA day....use your two 1sts to draft Rychel and Santini. Use your two 2nds to draft Fasching and Haag (he will drop) and then you have two 3rd's as well! Retool and Rebuild in the same season! Kronwall - Ericsson Smith - Dekeyser Lashoff - Sustr Huskins

    WMU's season.....

http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/frequentflyers/Flyers-courting-6-foot-8-defenseman.html Philly has already begun to court him... Nice to see that Detroit is showing interest in him....but I think he has a better shot at ice time from most of the other teams... It would be nice to land both he and Dekeyser for D depth! White will walk, Cola gets bought out or waived and maybe Kindl is packaged...dunno...even with Kindl around they could still land both those UFA's... This is nice too! (from the same article)
