  1. Do we sign them? Trade them? What do you feel their contracts will be, or what do you think a return in trade will be? I saw that Matt Boldy re-signed with Minnesota 7x$7M. What does that mean for contracts for our guys? Does that put Larkin near $9M? Does Bertuzzi get more than $7M? TDL Holland is looking for D and it's been said that he has inquired about Hronek. Would you send him to Edmonton if it got you a 1st or maybe Bouchard in return? Could we toss Zadina and some retained salary on Hronek to add Puljujarvi in order to clear cap space in Edmonton? to EDM : Hronek (retained salary) Zadina to DET : Bouchard, Puljujarvi, 1st? (maybe a 2nd instead)

Looks like prices are going up! Maybe Yzerman should consider trading a couple players. Haag, Sundqvist, Suter, Erne, Oesterle? Would've loved to have Cal Foote on the team, but I'm not sure how his dad would feel about wearing a Wings jersey during the fathers week. Or if I'd even wanna see him in one!

    2023 Trade Deadline Thread

This is basically what I said last week. Making the playoffs, losing in the 1st or not, is experience and it's progress. I'm not surprised he's taking this stance. Like it or not, this is the Yzerplan and this is progress. Its what he preached from day 1. Patience and seeing progress each year. I thinking if Bertuzzi isn't extended by the draft, he'll probably go right back on the block.

I wouldn't be surprised if a verbal agreement was in place that if he leads then into the playoffs, they'll revisit the $9M.

    2023 Trade Deadline Thread

I have a feeling that since The Wings are only 3 points out of the wildcard spot with games in hand on The Isles, Caps and Panthers, we can forget about a Bertuzzi and/or Larkin trade. I feel that Yzerman is going to stand firm with this team (unless he dumps Vrana (unfortunately)) and IF they can squeak into that spot, it'll be a huge learning experience for this young team. Even if they don't make it, the experience they'll get by just being in the race is valuable! Yzerman made his UFA choices last summer with the intent on getting better and making progress. Well, being this close to the playoffs, and possible making it is the progress I believe he was looking for. Extending Maata only proves that he is very happy with this team and the additions he made. Of course, it may mean a 1st round exit, but it's still experience and gives them hunger to do even better next season. So with that, I am not sure Yzerman will be too active come March 3. He may be able to move Haag or Oesterle or even Ned and Erne, but I believe that both Larkin and Bertuzzi will get their extensions and be two of the cornerstones of this team going forward into glory. This is all just speculation on my end of course, but if you're this close to the playoffs, and possibly make it, why trade away one or two of the pieces that got you there? I get it, there is always the chance that they'll walk for free, and the TDL is when their value is highest, but if negotiations stall, they can always be dealt on draft day, or right up to before they become UFA. They return won't be as high as the TDL, but it would still be good, and they won't walk for free. Neither of them have NTC/NMC so there are 31 teams you can trade them to, I am sure someone will pay a good price for either of them at the draft. Give Larkin the 8x$9M and Bertuzzi 4x$6M.

Larkin & Bertuzzi Contract Watch? Red Wings TDL Discussion.

This quote is from @kipwinger in the News From Around the League thread. I wouldn't be sad if Bertuzzi and Zadina were dealt. Bertuzzi still has some value and could fetch a pick and a prospect, Zadina I don't think would fetch too much by himself, but in a package, it could return some nice things! I'd still like to see what a package of Zadina and Hronek (with salary retained) would bring back. I know Hronek is finding his own lane now, but his value has never been higher. He is 3rd in scoring on the team and should surpass his point totals from last season. He cold be approaching his prime right now and just may be past it by time Detroit contends. So maybe trade him for a younger D prospect? Take on a bad salary, retain 50% and Yzerman could get a very nice return.

How about $8.75Mx8 which is a $70M contract. Give him a signing bonus and incentive bonus which equals a $76M ttl value, thus equaling a $9.5M possible AAV. That would make him more than happy, no?

Well Horvat just got 8x$8.5M, what does this mean for Larkin? https://twitter.com/FriedgeHNIC/status/1622327301219164160?t=jIhugq3dLL6aE2-gG0bLoA&s=19

Larkin & Bertuzzi Contract Watch? Red Wings TDL Discussion.

apologies! With all that I forgot to put up one of the latest "Twitter" rumors about Bertuzzi. It said that Dallas is interested and could use him in their top 6. What do you think the return could or should be? Then tweet mentioned that since he hasn't been healthy, it's hard to gauge him on this year, but adding that in, along with last year, his stock has fallen some, so their suggestion was a 2nd round pick and in return for retaining 50% of Bertuzzi's salary, prospect Antonio Stranges. Thoughts? Ya, it was more so just a rant about Holland and his decision to trade the pick that should've been Chychrun. Although, knowing Holland, he probably would've drafted Cholowski at 16 anyhow!

Larkin & Bertuzzi Contract Watch? Red Wings TDL Discussion.

All this talk about Chychrun. Remember that time when Ken Holland was our GM and in 2016 he traded the 16th pick in the draft, along with Datsyuk's contract to the Coyotes for the #20, #53 and Joe Vitale? I know #53 ended up being Hronek, but he drafted Smith at #46, he could've gotten Hronek there instead. We could've drafted Chychrun (instead of Cholowski) and Hronek and had them both. Good Times. I am so glad Holland is gone! Man he really lost it near the end there! Someone else would've taken that Datsyuk contract, Holland is just stupid. 2016 was a huge mistake, 2017 was abysmal and 2018 was just embarrassing. 2016: Should've draft Chychrun at 16 and Hronek at 46 2017: I know Rasmussen is coming along and that is great, but for all the slack I took for Tippett, he is slowly catching him. Only 13 points behind in 67 less games played. But comparing him to a RW isn't fair, so lets talk Vilardi, 13 less point in 94 less games. Suzuki has played in 98 more games, and 100 more points than Ras. Necas has played in 23 more games and has 82 more points. So the three consecutive C's taken after Rasmussen are performing far better than Holland's pick. 2018: Zadina? Thanks Holland! Should've kept with the plan for D! Would've had Hughes or Bouchard. Don't even get started with the Svechnikov draft! Sure, he is not the only one making these picks, there is a team of people all putting their thoughts together, but his team sucked at the end. He is by far not the only GM to swing and miss, but it just seems that he has missed a ton more than he hit in his later years. Makes me wonder what our draft would've looked like if he had just stepped aside when Yzerman was supposed to become our GM the first time. Anyhow, sorry for the run-on and rant, but seeing everyone (mostly) wanting to go for Chychrun just reminded me of how we should've had him to begin with instead of trading down for the extra 2nd. Here's how things could've been from 2015-2018. Instead of Svech, could've had Boeser who was the next winger to be taken, if you wanted to stick with a LW, could've had Beauvillier Instead of Cholowski, Smith and Hronek, could've have had Chychrun and Hronek. Instead of Rasmussen, could've had Vilardi, Necas or Suzuki Instead of Zadina, could've (should've) had Hughes or Bouchard. He and his amateur draft team were just horrible. In the end, 2016 and 2018 are going to go down as mental lapses by Ken Holland. 15 and 17, for what hindsight shows, were just a crap shoot gamble. But the other two were attempts to make a better move than was already there, and he failed miserably! I do give him credit for Veleno and Berggren though.

    New New Prospects Thread

Is this good? I mean good for Smith to go to a team to get a chance, but I never heard of O'Regan, so I am not sure if this is just a GR swap or what. After looking at the stats, I think this was just a nothing trade. Maybe Yzerman wanted to do Smith a favor, and really didn't want Del Zotto. But I guess it's depth for GR. Doesn't do anything to help our current downfall though. I guess we are back in the Tank Hard for Bedard sweeps again!
  18. Larkin, Bertuzzi, Zadina and Johansson to Vancouver for Pettersson and Hughes.
  19. Yes, but you are still keeping Zadina? If you are "fully" wiping Holland clean, as your title says, then Zadina, Ras and Veleno must go. I can't believe that you are even advocating keeping Zadina. He is a bust. Trade that guy for whatever you can get. Ugh, I hate Ken Holland for this.
  20. I'll admit, I don't know what it would take, but I am ok with that being overpayment! That just means Yzerman would be able to swing it for a less! Bert, 1st? Bert, Prospect? Bert, Zadina?
  21. and like I mentioned, this team is playing better this season without Bertuzzi. So why not dangle him out there and see what comes back? I am willing to bet a package of Bert, 1st, prospect gets us Boeser from Vancouver. I think 25 year old RW Boeser @ $6.6M for the next 3 years fits Yzerman's plan moreso than Bertuzzi at $6.6M. I'd even throw another roster player in to get him here. Bertuzzi, Lindstrom, prospect and a top 10 protected 23 1st. Maybe even toss Zadina in there!
  22. Honestly? Because this team has played, and played pretty darn well, without him this season. Trade him and get a player that more complement's the build (Mantha for Vrana) or get a couple of draft picks for him. I'm willing to bet that Vancouver would love to have Bertuzzi there and would not be opposed to sending Boeser back our way (in a package from us of course, not one for one.) Maybe Holland wants his prized draft pick Zadina back?
  23. You start by saying "wiping the Holland slate clean" yet you are trading Maata, Ned and Sunny, all while keeping Zadina, Veleno and Rasmussen. I am not advocating trading Veleno or Rasmussen, but I just find it funny you are not really wiping Holland's slate, you are wiping Yzerman's. Larkin is not Yzerman's draft pick but if Yzerman didn't believe in him, he would not have made him Captain. Larkin, IMO, is a life-long Red Wing. Bertuzzi can be dealt, as can Zadina. With Vrana and Kubilik, they are not needed. Zadina is bust central. #ThanksHolland. If teams show an interest in Ned, I'd be ok with trading him, but we've yet to see Helburg play a big role, and Cossa is far from ready. May as well keep Husso and Ned until Cossa is ready. Unless we get a "WOW" offer for Ned. Sunny, Fabbri, Suter, Haag and Maata, and to a lessor extent, Chiarot & Perron are all stopgaps. Walman and Oesterle probably won't be here after their contracts expire. I happen to like Suter, but with Berggren and Veleno, along with Rasmussen, he doesn't really fit long run in the bottom 6. Kasper, really isn't top 6 C either. But I'll save that for when he is here and (hopefully) proving me wrong. BTW, Yzerman was 32 when he won his first Cup so if Larkin happens to be around in his 30's when we win a Cup, so be it. I'm fine with that, as is Yzerman I assume.

News From Around the NHL *Mod warning page 75*

Jake Walman has been activated. Wings now have 8 defensemen on the roster. Still at 23 players, so no "need" to send one to GR, but once others start returning from injury, I wonder which defenseman gets waived?
