Kyle Quincey to miss 4-6 weeks

Ring Ring.... Hello, Dekeyser residence... Yes, is Dan there? Who's calling? Ken Holland, Detroit Red Wings, we have a spot we need filled... PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! I am assuming that he felt Kindl would be the scratch guy every night since until now, hasn't shown that he belongs in the NHL... I say forget White too...

Jared Coreau G N Michigan signing with Wings

That is true, maybe when Monster is done in 2014, either Mrazek will up to be backup or maybe this guy will be backup and keep Mrazek playing every night in GR with Paterson backing him up...either way, with Pearce and McCollum on the outs, the organization needed another goalie. Especially when Monster leaves...

Jared Coreau G N Michigan signing with Wings

Sounds like McCollum is on the outs in GR then....with Mrazek the obvious starter and next in line behind Howard (once Monster is gone) it looks like Holland is solidifying his G spot ( pun intended) in GR.... without searching for this cat (another pun intended,) what have we learned about him already? I did see that he played for the Lincoln Stars (same as McKee) but he left the year before Mike got there...losing record at NMU, but that could have a lot to do with his team as well... NMU website has him listed at 6'4" and 208lbs. Talk about a monster in net...

    Holland with Micky/Kenny...

I would be all warm and fuzzy with TWO 1st round picks and snagging both Ryan Pulock and Kirby Rychel or Fasching... Problem is, NOW Pulock is now ranked #12 and Rychel, who was previously #21, is #16 and Hudson Fasching has dropped off the top 30 list.... I have noticed Steve Santini start to climb up the list as well...he is ranked #22 right ahead of Robert Haag who used to be in the top 10...Santini is an American born Right handed defenseman who plays for the US National Development Team U-18... 6'1" 204lbs. I don't know why Haag dropped so much the last couple of months, but hopefully that will deter Holland from drafting another Swedish defenseman in hopes of finding another Lids, because he isn't going to be another Lids. We have Kronner and Ericsson to represent Sweden and that is enough. I wouldn't hate Haag here, but with the likes of Santini rising and Haag dropping, I would hope for Santini first. With two 1st rounder's, we could definitely help our rebuild for sure! I would hope that Fasching would be around in the 2nd round to take, he is 6'1" 213'lb. Right handed Forward who could develop into one of the missing right wingers we are in need of!

Kostitsyn Gives Up - Goes for Line Change

I saw this "highlight" this morning on the NHL Network...at first they just talked about the goal and I even said to myself, WTF was that guy doing? He went to the bench while the play was still in front of him... Funniest thing is when the coaches are pointing and screaming at him to stay out (at :48 of the vid) and then at :54 of the vid they show him looking the other way towards center ice, like "What? I don't see anything!" Bonehead of bonehead plays!

    Trading Filppula

Lest we forget Quincey garnered a 1st as well. I don't know if Filppula will get us a 1st, prospect and a 3rd....but I can see a 1st for sure...not unless a few teams get in a bidding war for him....that would be nice, eh?
  7. I hate thinking this but he may be a chronically injured player....it just seems like he cannot get and stay healthy. I don't like it....I don't like it at all... Deadline deal could be looming if our "getting Helm back" doesn't turn out to be our deadline deal after all....

Brunner downgraded to the third line!?

You know what they say! Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

    Datsyuk sitting at 499 assists

Not to turn this into a Fedorov debate, but need I remind everyone that Fedorov WANTED to stay here, but Holland pulled the previous offer and offered him something less. He took the same deal in Anaheim that he was originally offered in Detroit. Holland was just pissed that he didn't sign the original offer when it was offered to him. All Fedorov asked was to wait until the season was over because he was in the middle of a divorce and changing agents...Holland got mad and when the season ended, a lessor deal was offered (less money and years) and Fedorov wanted the other deal, when Holland said that "This is the deal" Fedorov left. I don't blame Feds and this does NOT make him any less special than Datsyuk. All of Gordie Howe, Ted Lindsay, Sid Abel AND Terry Sawchuk left the Wings at one point of their careers...this wasn't the deciding factor with those four and it shouldn't be with Fedorov. Don't get me wrong, I agree that if Datsyuk continues his pace and even plays for a few more years, he will deserve it as well. But you just cannot deny Fedorov and what he meant to this team. I still maintain that without him, Detroit doesn't win those three Cups...

    Holland with Micky/Kenny...

You know, I can agree with you here. I am thinking it doesn't always have to be a player coming back to us in a trade it could be a pick. If Quincey and Gausted are worth 1st round picks to teams in need, then why wouldn't Filppula bring us a 1st round pick from a playoff team in need of a center? Lets say Vancouver needs a center desperately (like they do) and offer Holland their 1st round pick for him? It may be a 25 or higher pick, but couple that with our (what may be) 25 or lower pick and we have two great players right there... What if Anaheim offered a 2nd for him, then Vancouver felt the need to outbid Anaheim? We could always stockpile high picks this year and go for a UFA come summer. (I know Q filed arbitration so he couldn't have been offered a sheet from someone else, but it sure would have been nice to see him go somewhere else for his $3.75M and get that 1st and 3rd in return! Imagine that! If we got those picks for him, then traded Fil for a 1st, we'd have 3 1st rounders, and 2 3rd rounders....nice! I will settle for 2 1st's!)
  12. LeftWinger

    Holland with Micky/Kenny...

Miller, White, Emmerton, Kindl are all FA's come summer. Unfortunately if Holland trades them they will only bring back picks. I cannot see a bundle trade involving any of these guys that will bring us a player in return. You have to start talking Nyquist, Filpulla, Franzia, Tatar and players like them if you want a player in return... I hope we go after Perry, Ignila, Burrows, Jagr or Morrow.... Not in that order and not all of them of course. I mention Burrows because of their need for a center and we have that available...

    Datsyuk sitting at 499 assists

Here we go....if Pavel goes up, then Fedorov goes up. Period. What's right is right. Fedorov is top 10 in ALL stat categories for the Wings (expect PIM's) and top 5 if not top 2 in most of those as well... If Datsyuk goes up, Fedorov is a no brainer....if Feds doesn't go up, neither does Datsyuk. Now if Pav re-signs and plays longer and passes Fedorov in those categories, then fine. He's 20 points ahead of Lindsay, sitting in 7th place, He is 10 points behind Norm Ullman for 6th place. He is 206 points behind Fedorov for 5th.

    Holland with Micky/Kenny...

I got a shiver down my spine when Kenny said that "although, getting Darren Helm and Mike Samuelsson back would be like our deadline acquisitions...." Ugh...I know it makes sense and IS like getting someone new, but Geezus Kenny, think of a new way to describe it! Kenny quotes I am tired of: "We kicked the tires" and "getting <player> back is our deadline acquisition...." I don't mind that he has to do just that, but please find a different way to say it.....PLEASE!

    Quincey out tonight vs. Nucks

Yikes is right! I don't like the guy, but not how I ever want anyone to be out of the lineup! Hope the surgery (if needed) goes well and he recovers for next season.... on a different note, if Dekeyser were coming here, I guess he is guaranteed a spot now...not unless they just roll with White. But I think they sign him now for sure... keeping White and Huskins as the depth rotating guys... Yes, I know, I am just hoping and looking and reaching for a way to guarantee Danny becomes a Red Wing....it has to happen!

Brunner downgraded to the third line!?

and as long as he is still a Red Wings and people continue to talk about him, so will I. But it is nice that even though I respond to post about him, I am usually not the first one to bring him up, and that my friend RR, is fact. I have refrained from bringing him up first, but if someone else brings him up, all bets are off! I am glad you get it, but I am by far NOT the only hater on this forum... http://www.letsgowings.com/forums/topic/74171-brunner-downgraded-to-the-third-line/#entry2370462 First one top mention him....

Next 5 games could define season.

In all honesty, with the expectations of this team this year, making the playoffs will be a successful season. Especially considering the loss of Lidstrom and Stuart and the failure to lure an established top 3 player and top pairing defenseman... A Cup would absolutely rock and shock the world, but making the playoffs would be about the best we can realistically expect from this team...a that would be a winning season.

    Nyquist reassigned to GR

after the season is over he will be traded to Anaheim...with Filppula and our 1st round pick for Perry and their 1st round pick. to ANA: Filppula, Nyquist, 2013 1st rd pick to DET: Perry, 2013 1st rd pick Yes, this is just a fantasy trade I made up, but it's doable and viable and makes sense for both! Then I wake up and see that Holland re-signed Val to a $6M deal....ugh... (this is all purely fantasy, and only in my head. Do not read any further than that!) ...although I do believe Nyquist will be traded, just not sure when or to who...is he a center?
  19. LeftWinger

    Nyquist reassigned to GR

Helm is in, eh? That would be great! Our questions are being answered. What will happen to the kids when we are healthy...Tatar, gone. Nyquist, gone. As soon as Sammy and or Bertuzzi gets back, Andersson...gone...Colaiacovo back, Lashoff....gone...

Next 5 games could define season.

ya, 7 points in 6 games sounds better...that's over .500 and if that pace is kept up, we should at least keep the playoff streak alive! (thankfully we don't have to play Columbus anymore....do we?) I don't know about you guys, but I am sure hoping for a Det v. Van 1st round matchup!
  21. Regarding naming the division (although they will probably go with standard Southeast, Central, etc...) I think they should be traditional and name them after great pioneers of the NHL....and I don't mean Norris, Smythe et al. I mean Like Lafleur, Orr, Howe, Gretzky, Richard, Bowman, Brooks.... ...anyone of those I would be fine with. But we will be stuck with Central, Northeast, etc...
  22. LeftWinger

    NY Rangers

I don't think any Eastern Conference team has ANY interest in dealing with the Red Wings considering the realignment. Funny that Columbus felt that way last summer and didn't even field calls from Ken Holland regarding Rick Nash and now they are going to have Nash in the same division anyhow! The only East team that I see dealing with us would be Winnipeg. Now, of course its open season for the West to deal with us and I can think of more than a few players I wouldn't mind seeing on our team, either at the deadline or the draft... Regarding the Rags, it's a classic New York story, pay all these players and lose anyway. It's always fun eliminating the Yankees and it will just as fun when the Wings oust the Rags on more than one occasion starting next year (almost as fun as St. Louis) Someone mentioned Jagr earlier, wonder if Holland has any interest in him at the deadline for a late round pick or a median player... Not to hijack the thread, but how about a trade that brings us Jagr and Morrow?
  23. I don't recall saying that he lowballed Suter....I do wish we had landed him though. His home is in Wisconsin, his wife's home is in Minny, so we know who wears the (non-hockey) pants in that family! Ya, it would have been a rough contract to have for 13 years, would have forced Holland to make some changes in order to re-sign Datsyuk, Howard, Brunner, Smith, etc... We probably would have lost Franzine...damn that Mrs. Suter!

    Trading Filppula

This seems to be a trend with Kessel. He has so much potential and yet he has been traded from Boston and now you say that you hear Toronto is getting tired of him? He has had 4 straight seasons of 30 or more goals, but seems to be struggling (by his standards) a bit this year. Of course Toronto is only outshined by Montreal as places that are the hardest to play for. If you struggle in either of those cities, you may as well pack it in, you are doomed forever more....Does he have the same issue as our whipping boy? That being said, I don't think that Toronto would trade with Detroit (or vice-versa) considering that they will be conference rivals again next season...

    Trade Kronwall?

Now is the time to keep Kronwall....the time to trade him was at the 2009 draft. Way back then I was suggesting trading Kronwall, Franzine and the rights to Hudler (who was an upcoming RFA) to Tampa for the #2 pick and draft Hedman to be groomed by Lidstrom... would have been a dandy of a deal! He would be our #1 defenseman right now and we wouldn't be looking around at what to do about a top pairing...We would've had Hossa still along with Hedman...and we would STILL have them both and then there would be no lazy Franzine talk either! Ahhh, but hindsight is always a kick in the pants, eh? I would have missed Kronwall, but he was tradable then, now he needs to stay. Funny though, I am still waiting for the first Kronwalled of the season...why do you think he hasn't been hitting like he used to?
