Speaking of Mike Peca.... I remember one broadcast where Kenny was describing the play and Datsyuk stole the puck from him and Kenny said, and I quote, "Datsyuk just picked the pocket of Peca...." resulting in Mickey responding with "You were waiting all game to say that weren't you?" All while uncontrollably laughing....classic! Anyhow, I hope Sammy is one of the buyouts next season...

Filppula, Nyquist, our 1st round for Perry and their 1st round is a viable and doable deal... Nobody says it has to happen at the deadline, because yes, that could be a possible playoff matchup, BUT it could very well happen at the draft BEFORE they all become FA's... That is where the sign and trade's would come in. Not that they are common, but with the amount of talent exchanging hands, I think that it would be the case here....that being said, this is still a fantasy trade and it is very unlikely. But if Anaheim feels they cannot re-sign Perry for whatever reason, they will try to move him before he becomes UFA. They would save money with Fil and Nyquist, since together they will cost less than what it would cost Detroit to re-sign Perry. Our 1st for theirs is about a 5-6 pick difference in the end and with Pulock and Haag moving up the ISS ladder, I would feel good if Detroit got a mid 20's pick and selected someone like Fasching or Rychel...

This is Nyquist's tryout for the Ducks... Filppula/Nyquist/1st for Perry/1st....

Nice scenario, but Perry is going to get a lot more than $6M. He is already in the 5's and will get a very similar contract to Getzlaf. That being said I don't see an issue with Detroit paying him that much, because I would use both the buyouts to get rid of Sammy and Bertuzzi. So using your scenario of trading for Perry, we aren't losing any salary (all three guys you mentioned are FA's) unless we do dump most of what it will cost for Perry. Lets say Perry agrees to $8M. We dumped almost $5.1M in salary with the buyouts, so that is just $2.9M more you have to pay Perry to cover the $8M. Now you have to use the remaining $14.85M to re-sign Brunner, Howard, Andersson, Smith, possibly Kindl and acquire (in my world) Dan Dekeyser and waiving Colaiacovo, which if he is claimed gets you off the hook for his salary, if not then $1.575M counts against the Cap. It's all very possible as long as the Hockey Gods are reading this thread! Anyhow, lets check it out with some nice raises for our FA's. FORWARDS Tomas Tatar ($0.840m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Corey Perry ($8.000m) Damien Brunner ($3.750m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Johan Franzen ($3.955m) Patrick Eaves ($1.200m) / Darren Helm ($2.125m) / Jordin Tootoo ($1.900m) Joakim Andersson ($1.000m) / Cory Emmerton ($0.533m) / Justin Abdelkader ($1.800m) Riley Sheahan ($0.900m) / DEFENSEMEN Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($3.250m) Brendan Smith ($1.575m) / Kyle Quincey ($3.775m) Brian Lashoff ($0.725m) / Danny Dekeyser ($0.980m) Jakub Kindl ($1.050m) / GOALTENDERS Jonas Gustavsson ($1.500m) Jimmy Howard ($4.250m) OTHER Buyout: Todd Bertuzzi ($0.000m) Buyout: Mikael Samuelsson ($0.000m) Buried: Carlo Colaiacovo ($1.575m) ------ CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (these totals are compiled with the bonus cushion) SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $62,056,212; BONUSES: $320,000 CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $2,563,788 This leaves $2.5M to spend on another depth forward. I am not sure what the roster limit is 23 or 24. Mine is only 22, so with the $2.5M, there is room for a 23rd if needed.

What? We cannot trade Emmy for Perry straight up? Seriously Perry would cost a top 6 NHL player, a prospect and probably a pick. I could see Filppula being the top 6 guy. He could be involved because both he and Perry are UFA's at the end of the season so it makes the risk for both team equal. I hate to say it, but I think that either one of Tatar or Nyquist would be the prospect involved, they are the two guys that are the most NHL ready from the farm and of the two, I could part with Nyquist easier than Tatar. Not unless they would take a chance on Sheahan or Ferraro. I am here to say though that I am dead set against getting rid of our 1st round pick, unless we are swapping ours for thiers. (which would still give us a shot at Rychel or Fasching...) So, here is what I could see as plausible IF Perry were to be moved before the season ended: to ANA: Val Filppula, Gustav Nyquist, 2013 1st round pick. to DET: Corey Perry, 2013 1st round pick. ....and just for the record, I don't even see that as a reality unless the Ducks know for sure they cannot re-sign Perry and want to try to get somet value for him. I still think that Detroit has an ace in hand with Flip and Anaheim just may be on board with getting Filppula together with Selanne for the playoffs and see if they do indeed have great chemistry together as Selanne has said before. Could be a win/win for both teams... That being said, I think I would take Bobby Ryan over Corey Perry in a trade and try my luck in the off season with Perry, unless he re-signed after they freed up the $5M+ that Ryan takes with him...

I too think Kindl has taken some good steps towards being close to what they envisioned when they drafted him, but I still don't think he is seen here more than a #6/#7 guy, always rotating in and out of the lineup. Someone had mentioned earlier that Smith and Lashoff have pretty passed him on the depth chart. If Holland gets a top guy it will Kindl who falls back to the press box. If that happened, I can see him and Lashoff rotating the #6 spot the rest of the season. Good for him anyway, I too could not stand the guy and hated the fact that a #19 pick overall was used on him. But he seems to be taking advantage of this opportunity (finally) and seems to have found a niche' on this team. He better hope that a top guy doesn't become available because he will go right back to where he was....if he isn't involved in the trade. If a top guy is too expensive or does not become available I feel pretty comfortable right now going forward next season with Kronner - Big E Smitty - Q Danny D - Laser/Kindl

Ya, it is a bit sad, but White is done here I believe. His spot will be filled by either a top pairing star or Dekeyser.
-
Yes, yes indeed! Krowall - Ericsson Quincey - Smith Kindl - Lashoff ...who are already here followed by Ouellet, Sproul, Backman, McKee, De Haas along with Fournier, Nicastro, Nedomlel, Jensen, Almqvist and Marchenko who are still young and in the system. Add to that Dekeyser and or Sustr or both who seem to be NHL ready, our D has a bright future indeed! If somehow Holland got ahold of a legit top pairing guy to play in all situations, we would be set! An embarrassment of riches to say the least!

I am all for this scenario for sure...unfortunately Pulock keeps moving up the ISS list.... When I first started talking about him, he was ranked around #20 he has now found his way up to #13 and doesn't seem to be stopping. Haag, who was around #17 a bit ago is now #11... I am really on the Pulock to Detroit side of the coin, but if he is gone by time we draft, I wouldn't have issue with turning to the O and drafting one of Hudson Facshing or Kerby Rychel. Both big American born kids that will fall right into the 3-5 years process of making it to the Wings. Of course Andrej Sustr would be a suitable and viable option along with Dekeyser...it would soften the blow of not being able to draft Pulock this year. Sign Dekeyser, Sustr and draft Kerby Rychel and all will be grand!

Here is some good news guys. Even though we are unable to beat the lowly Blue Jackets, with 28 points the Wings still sit 3rd in points in the West and 4th in playoff positioning. It could be a whole lot worse....we could be in the East right now where we wouldn't even be in the playoffs and we would be 5th in the division behind MTL, TOR, BOS, OTT....we'd still be ahead of TPA and FLA, but yikes! Ken Holland better soup up this team and do it quickly, because it is going to be twice as hard to make the playoffs in our new conference next season! -

I agree, while it must of been nice being born with the Red Wings "silver spoon" in your mouth, a few years of humbling loses would do this fanbase well. Don't get me wrong, I still want as many Cups as possible, but you never really appreciate the Cup until your team has fought long and hard to earn it. Not that they haven't earned this success in the last 20 years, BUT every season leading up to 1997, including the dark Dead Wings era, are what made that 1997 Cup the most memorable Cup of all of them. If the Wings go another 10+ years without a sniff, I think it'll bring the bandwagon, spoiled, fans down a bit and really appreciate what it takes to 'build" a Champion, just like Brian Murray and Scotty Bowman did... -

This would be the power play quarterback as well... they need scoring and although they are doing better defensively, they need that top minute guy who can quarterback the PP too...Kronner just isn't it. He is good at what he does and is important to this teams success, but he just isn't that top guy who can play in every situation... -
How about Tatar - Datsyuk - Brunner? Small yes, but quick and deadly....you cannot hit what you cannot catch, unless you do it illegally... You can put Cleary with Z for a bit and that will help Z get back on track since Cleary is CLEARLY the key to our top 6 success....
-
...wait, I though Datsyuk was already centering the 4th line...

was that a shot by Kronwall? or just a push? I was told that you don't try to puck the puck in the net, you try to put it through the net...pussyfoot the puck and it's not going to go in... -

How embarrassing the Joe is...are there more empty seats there than full? Not really, but sheesh! Note to fans: If you aren't going to go to the game, don't buy the tickets. Then maybe some of us who can't go all the time, can go once in a while... -

Well, I just saw the replay of Columbus' 2nd goal and it was yet another horrible rebound by Jimmy. Jimmy is a great goalie except when it come to rebounds...every game he gives up tons of rebounds and he gets burned more than I like. It's really gonna burn me up if we get to the playoffs and his eneptness when it comes to rebound control knocks us out of the playoffs. He needs to nip that in the bud! Again, what this needs is in dire need of is scoring. Primary and secondary. This team NEEDS a legit sniper that is a threat to score everytime he is on ice. Added to that, this team is also in dire need of a PP quarterback. Kronner is just not it. He is good at his game and is valuable to this team, but he isn't that quarterback... So, when it comes to the glaring needs of this team....PP quarterback and legit sniper....anyone have Fedorov's number? Unfortunately, neither Bert nor Sammy are going to fill these needs... Did I hear that Datsyuk hasn't scored in about 9 games? Hmmmmm, seems to coincide about the time that he was put on a line with Abby and Cleary.... I know we do not have the assets to acquire these needs, and with how tight the playoff race is, I really don't see a whole lot of players exchanging hands this deadline.... Good to see the Franzine I have grow to love and hate is back. I knew he was only good for one dominant game per every 20... Nice to hear that Helm may be back next week, maybe. He instantly makes this team better and would also give Tatar more scoring chances... 5 on 3 for 96 seconds...if they do not score, it will really fire up Columbus...good luck and Go Wings! (Babs, get the lines right please...Cleary and Abby are not top 6. Cleary brings everyone down to his level. Holland, make the moves (if you can) to get what this team needs...) -
Didn't get to watch any of this game, but one thing is still glaring....We need scoring. Sammy and Bert aren't gonna add enough to help (if they ever get healthy.) So it comes down to a trade. It the bottom line, even when we were doing so good the last few games, you cannot win enough if you only score 1-2 goals a game. I have to say, it's pretty sad that the WIngs cannot beat this team, I don't know what it is. ps. It sickens me everytime I see Hossa celebrating a big game winning goal or hell even a goal...he should have been a Red Wing for life.... ...anyway, this team is desperate for a scorer...so desperate that it is going to be expensive to acquire, but I say we need it, do it. Nothing we have in the IR is going to turn the scoring around to where we score 3-4 goals a game instead of 1-2....

Not as dumb as the Wild....

They have lost....just not in regulation. We as Detroit fans know all to well that while NHL records are nice, they don't mean crap in the playoffs. I am not trying to downplay the Hawks and their fans and "The Record," but not unless this equates to a Hoisting of the Cup, it's it means nothing. Much like 1996....
