    Franzen is NOT playing great...

    The Ken Holland Quote Thread

Right, but when Hossa was wanting to sign here, Holland was still trying to sign Hudler that summer before he bolted for Russia. So his intentions were to sign Franzen and Hudler that summer... "We love what Anthony Stewart brings to a team, and are in definite need to get bigger and tougher to play against, Anthony would provide that two-fold! Um....but in the end, we like Emmerton and Mursak on our team, so we had to pass..."

    Anthony Stewart Placed on Waivers

as a matter of fact, Holland would be an absolute jack ass not to claim this guy....6-3 230lbs who can also score 20+ points? It's a no brainer. Holland WTF are you waiting for? This should already be done! as a matter of fact I would have already claimed Adam Pardy as well, and boot Kindl to the curb.

    Anthony Stewart Placed on Waivers

ACtually since there are a few teams with 0 points, I think the tie breaker is goals scored and well......0 for us! Of course if we are the first ones to have a crack at him, it's been awhile since he has been on waivers and well, if Holland was first, he must have said no thanks....idiot. Oh, but I bet he nabs Lilja.

    The Ken Holland Quote Thread

I have always been a huge critic of Holland's ( a lot of negative.) This past summer I really gave him credit for doing his best to get the Olsen twins here, or at least Suter, and I do love the draft picks along with picking up Jordin Tootoo. I am and always will be on the fence with Holland though. He has made some real questionable deals (letting Hossa go, 1st round for Quincey) recently and has historically drafted softer players over the glaring needs of our team. Again, I give him a B+ for this summer, it's just too bad that the Olsen twins family's didn't come from Michigan.

I would settle for just Perry. He would instantly be the sniper/power forward that Datsyuk needs! But ya, could you imagine the line of Getzlaf - Datsyuk - Perry? Almost as good as my fantasy line of Ryan - Datsyuk - Perry.

Holland should be all over this, NOW! Especially with Bert out and Mursak losing his last chance at remaining on this team. Claim Stewart, waive Mursak and trade Emmerton, make Miller and Eaves your rotating forwards.

...and before anyone mentions the salaries, Hossa only makes $1.3M more than Franzen's cap hit. So, no, Hossa is hardly way more expensive than Franzen. This debate will never be over, but only when Holland dumps Franzen and somehow gets Hossa back.

2009-2010: Hossa 15 points Franzen 18 points 2010-2011: Hossa 6 points Franzen 3 points 2011-2012: Hossa 0 points Franzen 1 point Hell even when Franzen had is great 2008 he had 18 points to Hossa's 26 points, the year they played together Hossa had 15 points to Franzen's 23 (a year in which Hossa was injured) so I would say playoffs they are pretty fricken even, so I am giving the win to Hossa because of his regular season dominance of Franzen...again, Franzen will NEVER score 40 goals here in Detroit. If nobody can look back and admit that Holland made a huge error in not keeping Hossa and opting for Franzen and Hudler, then you really need to take another look.... Just to add to this, since Hossa played here and left he has 261 points in 279 games 93% scoring. Franzen in the same time period, 191 in 252 games 75% scoring. In that sme time period, Franzen is a +49 and Hossa is a +81...we can go on forever... Hands down Hossa is far greater than Franzen ad Holland screwed the pooch on that one.

I don't know when you became a Wings fan, or when you joined this forum. But during that off season, I can guarantee than this forum was at least 50-50 on whether to keep Franzen or Hossa. So it's not just now everyone is saying we want Hossa, it's been this way and has been debated back and forth since the day Marian signed with Chicago. Also, you like to say Hossa had a disappearing act in 2009 playoffs, well, if you watched and were a fan back then, you'd know that he was seriously injured in those playoffs and missed half the next season due to surgery on that injury. I wouldn't call it a disappearing act rather an ill-timed injury. Blaming Hossa for the 2009 loss is a copout. Hossa has been and always will be better than Franzen, and it is one of the worst mistakes Holland has made. The day he signed Hossa his team got better, and ever since he let him go, the team has gotten worse and worse...Since Holland couldn't or wouldn't address the issues sooner, you are now seeing him scramble to try to patch holes that he knew was coming and didn't have a plan for...ie giving up a 1st round pick for Quincey who isn't worth a 4th round pick...

I would prefer Ouellet or Sproul, but if Lashoff is ready, anything would be an upgrade of Quincey's crappy ass...

    Wings Looking For Defenseman

Ya, my bad, when I click on UFA finder on capgeek, that list comes up. Didn't mean to excite anyone...

    Wings Looking For Defenseman

In other news, a couple of UFA's this summer could be attractive... Phaneuf, Latang, Gilbert, Bouwmeester, Orpik, Hjalmarsson, Morris and of course the oft mentioned Pitkanen.... ANY of these guys I would rather have than Quincey, Kindl and Big E.

I said, if you read it, that having Bobby Ryan here would make Detroit more attractive to Corey Perry, I didn't say that Perry will go wherever Ryan is playing. I think Ken Holland has already balked on acquiring Ryan over the summer. But I think it would take more to get Ryan of course. But if Selanne put in his 2 cents on Filppula and then Holland threw in a Tatar and a pick, then Ryan could be a Red Wing. And its the same with Vancouver, if the Sedins think that Franzen could be a commodity that would put them over the top, the Vancouver brass wouldn't hesitate to contact Holland. Unfortunately, none of that is happening because it doesn't seem that anyone is contacting Holland, PLUS Holland will never trade away Franzen or Filppula because he loves his Euros way too much. I bet he would trade Helm before he traded Franzen...

I am throwing my eggs in the rookie basket and acquiring Visnovsky Kronwall - Visnovsky Smith - White Ouellet - Sproul Cola

1/19: Red Wings 0 at St. Louis Blues 6

At this point, whatever works. I was just keeping Kronner in there because we know he is better, we don't know that of Ericsson. If we had another NHL ready defender other than Cola, sure he would be the 7th guy, but Kindl blows. Of course there is always the outside chance of acquiring Visnovsky...

and sadly, that is more than most the rest of the team did... Franzen - Datsyuk - Filppula Brunner - Zetterberg - Tootoo Nyquist - Helm (when ready) - Sammy Cleary - Abby - Eaves Why not? When Bert is healthy slot him in Nyquist's spot. Over the summer, the two buyouts MUST be Bertuzzi and Samuelsson...

Ok, considering our D, last nights performance was no better than if we had three rookies in the lineup. I say lets get these rookies up here and get them established now... Kronwall - White Smith - Colaiacovo Ouellet - Sproul They cannot do any worse, and they would probably do better...

Ericsson out, Getting MRI on Hip

Well, I sure wish it was Mrazek coming up instead of McCollum.... Also, with Ericsson questionable, I guess we'll see Kindl.... I'd rather they call Ouellet or Sproul.

I agree that even though he was easily one of our best last night, that Brunner looked timid or just star struck. I also agree Sammy is a better third liner.... What would you think about putting a line together of Brunner - Zetterberg - Tootoo? I am not saying Tootoo is a top 6 talent, but given the fact that both Z and Gunner got knocked all over the place last night, having Tootoo out there with them could give those guys a bit more sense of security...

    Everyone chill out!

Yes they have Zetterberg up front to play with Franzen. BUT Franzen has proven time and time again that he doesn't do any better playing with Z. I am not saying that he would guarantee step in Vancouver and strike gold with the Sedins, but hell, even Samuelsson played on that line a scored 30 goals playing with them. Giving Franzen's potential and the excitement he MAY get from a change of scenery AND playing with the Sedins, he could get 40 or 50 in a full season. He is never going to top 30 here. ALso I am not saying Burrows would come here and nail 50 in, but again, he is a total different type fo player than Franzen and he would bring a whole different dimension to Detroit, which is what Detroit needs....New types of players...

    Everyone chill out!

I never said that list of players suck (besides Franzen, Kindl, Quincey) I just listed players that I feel are tradeable as of today. I frankly don't care what value they have, Filppula could get you Bobby Ryan for sure. Cleary has value of leadership maybe for a young team, he may get you a draft pick of some sort. Emmerton would get you a draft pick. You could always package picks and prospects to help get a Bobby Ryan here. Take your pick of prospects, Tatar, Nyquist, Andersson are all expendable with the other prospects we have. Again, I am not asking to trade ALL the players I listed, those are just the ones that are expendable. Of those, Filppula is the most valuable and would get you something you NEED in return. My point about Selanne is, if indeed Ryan is the whipping boy out there and needs a fresh start, offering Filppula to Anaheim would be intriguing enough for Selanne to put a stamp of approval on it because of his desire to play with him. He and Selanne (according to Selanne) have great chemistry together and we could use someone like Bobby Ryan on this team. We have way enough playmaking forwards, we need a scorer or two. Also, getting Bobby Ryan in a Wings uniform would make Detroit a more attractive place for Corey Perry come UFA day. Now answer me this, which lineup looks better. (assuming Brunner works out and gets re-signed) Ryan - Dastyuk - Perry Brunner - Zetterberg - Burrows or Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Brunner Franzen - Filppula - Samuelsson (I threw Burrows in there because I also believe Franzen could be more valuable on Vancouver than here and he (along with a prospect) could get you Burrows.... (granted, this is just hypothetically assuming that Vancouver and Anaheim would want to dance with Holland.)

    Quincey

Fixed... If Holland hadn't acquired Quincey, he probably would have been on Justin Schultz's short list considering that there would have been a spot for him to step into and play. Fixed....
