Holland? You there?

Jeremy Roenick's book and the introduction is AMAZING
LeftWinger replied to evilzyme's topic in General
Nice! I love JR, he tells it like it is! -
Some fans will never be satisfied...soft Euro's or tough NA's...what do they want?

I liked this last deadline....and the draft....and all summer long. I forget who it was but they cursed me up and down when suggesting trade Franzen for Morrow....I know Franzen may be worth a bit more than Morrow, but I think with what this team needs is a Morrow type player. Heck it would take less then that is even better! Get Morrow here for sure! He would sure be a help!
-
I will give them 32 wins. Yet they will have to fight tooth and nail to get a good seed in the playoffs, I just don't want to see them win 40 games and coast around the week or so and be flat in the playoffs...play hard, play hard, play hard...from start to finish. Hopefully it brings us #12!

As a Wings fan you should bleed Redden-White.... Anyhow, Kindl is a bust anyhow. I had that feeling from day 1 and he has done nothing to convince me otherwise....should have just drafted Yandle that year, then there would be no debate about how the hell we are going to acquire him.....Holland blew this 1st round pick, as he did also for trading last years #19 pick to Tampa...Holland is a great GM, but even he makes some glaring mistakes....

Well, don't think anyone came up with this, but after watching the game last night and learning the correct pronunciation of his name (rhymes with runner,) I am officailly going with... Damien "The Gunner" Brunner....

If I recall, most of the same Tootoo haters on here were Drake haters when the Wings signed him. Now they are all like, "he was so important to our 08 Cup!" I am not saying Tootoo will get us a Cup, heck I didn't even say that in 08 about Drake, but you and you and you and even you cannot deny that Tootoo brings a dimension to this team that we haven't had since 2008. Tootoo will not only bring so much energy to this team and the crowd, he will stand up for his superstars and fellow teammates. When Lidstrom got smoked in Colorado, Aaron Downey stepped up, kicked ass, didn't ask any questions, just kicked ass. What happened when Brad Stuart got his jaw broken in Calgary a few years ago? Abby and Ericsson just stood there and looked at the guy who did it. What happened when Corey Perry was beating on Datsyuk so much that enough was enough? Well Datsyuk whooped him, but Pavel cannot be fighting out there, period. What happened when Weber head slammed Zetterberg? What happens everytime Backes takes liberties on Datsyuk? You get my point. With Tootoo here, you can guarantee what is gonna happen the first time someone tries to take out Calder candidate Damien "The Gunner" Brunner. PLUS everyone is forgetting Tootoo is still only 29 (30 Feb. 2,) in the prime of his NHL career and is coming off his best ever offensive performance last season all while playing in a limited 4th line role. People mention Chelios and they way we and he both hated each other. Well, after 10 years of being a Red Wing, I do believe he warmed up to us and us to him very well. As long as Tootoo stays healthy and gets a fair chance from us (unlike Hatcher and Modano did) he will become a fan favorite. I see him playing the rest of his years here in Detroit because that is what players do. They may start their career's somewhere else, but in Detroit they finish their career's. I am on the Tootoo train, I always was from day 1. I loved his intensity in Nashville, his hard work and toughness. I hated him when he played us, but wished that someone on this team had his work ethic and energy. Well now we have him. All aboard, the train has room for everyone, but we are leaving the station soon, express line to the Stanley Cup.

Detroit Red Wings vs Grand Rapids Griffins Jan 15th @ 6pm ET
LeftWinger replied to drumnj's topic in General
Agree....he has been given tons of chances in his career to make the top 6 defenders. He is not gonna do it again this season. He is done. I also agree that Mursak isn't look so good and haven't heard much about Emmy besides he changed his number. Those three are expendable in my book. Franzen had a couple of attempts, but he isn't "playing" Holmstrom like he is supposed to. His job is to stand in front of the net on the PP. He is trying to do too much... He has a chance to win me over this short season, so far, I am not too impressed. I think Tootoo is playing hard, I am very impressed with Brunner. The "kids" are playing a solid game. I seen a lot of Knuble in the 1st, but haven't heard much in the second. He doesn't look 40, but needs to really impress to beat out Eaves and or Miller. Of course if Nyquist starts in GR and Mursak and Emmy get waived (or traded) Knuble could slip in... All in all, they don't look too bad. They will do better than most people think this short season. Covo looks very solid and looks like he will win the 6th spot from Kindl. Datsyuk - Zetterberg - Brunner could be a top line in scoring this season. That gives Flip the second spot and the Bert - Helm - Cleary line is gonna be a bruiser! Along with Abby-Tootoo combo. I am optimistic about this team! I am with them until the end! -
Would you trade Jimmy Howard for an elite forward/defenseman?
LeftWinger replied to shoobiedoobin's topic in General
He will be exposed, but so would most goalies who don't have a Lidstrom in front of him. I am in Howards corner, but if the right trade came up, he'd be gone. Business.... When I think of Elite players, I think of Malkin, Ovie, Stamkos, Tavares, Weber, etc... Howard would not garner that type of player in return... -
Franzine and Kindl? I would laugh my ass off if Holland came up with a package deal that sent Franzine + to Calgary for Bogosian+. To see my two most favorite players together again would bring a tear to my eye!

a couple of things: Datsyuk at 79? Ya, ok. Doesn't dangle anymore? Ya, ok. It is great to see Hossa at #45 and Franzen at #......oh wait. Another thing, it's so funny to see the faces of Parise and Suter. Parise looks like he just crawled back up in his mothers womb and is all warm and cozy and Suter looks like he is saying, "this better ******* work out mama's boy!" Oh and Crosby at #1? Hey, the NHL is back, it's time to start the cock sucking again! But the author says he was labeled "The Next One," am I missing something? I do believe Lindros was "The Next One." So that would make Cindy, "Ok, we were wrong about Eric, this kid is The Next One." Of course I laugh at Kesler in the top 10 as well.

I wouldn't mind hometown hero Andy Greene playing here. I do not think they would trade Volchenkov...all depends who is on the block from Detroit.

Visnovsky files NHLPA grievance to void NYI trade
LeftWinger replied to cusimano_brothers's topic in General
Holland needs to contact Visnovsky's agent to get him to agree to a trade from the Island to the Wings. -
Would you trade Jimmy Howard for an elite forward/defenseman?
LeftWinger replied to shoobiedoobin's topic in General
Honestly, and I hate to bump up this older topic, but I would trade Howard and Franzen to Vancouver for Luongo and Burrows. If I could throw some more in to include Edler then it would be awesome! -
Detroit Red Wings Impact Players: Valtteri Filppula
LeftWinger replied to WingsFan19's topic in General
I think Fil has peaked. I like the guy and wold love to see him grow and become a force for the Wings, but I also cannot keep the words of Selanne out of my head when he said he wants to play with Fil. I am still on board with trading Fil to Anaheim for Bobby Ryan, which would help us in signing Corey Perry this summer. How about that line? Ryan - Datsyuk - Perry. Sticking to the topic, again, I really have enjoyed Fil here, he is very valauble to the Wings and if kept around, I hope to see him prosper! (of course he is a UFA and you know he is going to get Ryan-type money, so it would be a wash to trade him. I's hate to lose him for nothing over the summer.) -
Detroit Red Wings vs Grand Rapids Griffins Jan 15th @ 6pm ET
LeftWinger replied to drumnj's topic in General
Should be a great game! Is it really Griffs vs. Wings or is it both teams mixed up together as the normal Red v. White games are? Either way, I look forward to watching this. I too hope that Mrazek is in net. As a matter of fact, I cannot wait for Mrazek to seriously challenge Howard next season, possibly making Howard expendable soon... -
won't happen. Plus he will never be as important on the PP as Homer was. We'll see what kind of net -front guy he turns into, hopefully he finds something to keep him motivated. 20-30 goals in 48 games would up his trade value!
-
...plus he is a little tough and can help protect all those kids. If I am not being a homer and look outside of Detroit as to who may win a Cup this year, I am liking Edmonton with all the young legs. I would be pissed if Schultz wins one after he dissed all American teams, but in all honesty, Edmonton looks poised to make a dramatic surge this short season...of course I am a homer and will stay with Detroit until they are no longer in it.
-
I haven't heard anything about Fedorov making a comeback, I though he was happy being GM of CSKA. Funny though, I too would welcome Feds back for this short season. But at 43, I'd moreso like to see him comeback in a scout/coaching position. I am still waiting for the time when our coaching staff exists of Larionov and Fetisov... edit: On topic, I too think that the best thing to try to do is get Visnovsky off the Island (if we could convince him to play here.) Yandle/JBo/Burns/et al. would cost way too much! Besides there will be more than a few available as UFA too come summer...

Holland has only traded two roster players since 2002
LeftWinger replied to Dave Anderson's topic in General
Yes, and even though he didn't quite reach 80 games with the Wings, Sean Avery was a big part of this team for a couple of years and he was traded for Schneider along with Kuznetsov who played over 100 games with Detroit. He also trade Brad Stuart this off season. It's very nice to read that other forum and see that Holland indeed was NOT the GM when Shanahan was acquired. So everyone who believes that Holland built the core of the Dyanasty of the mid 90's to 2002 can rest assured that Bryan Murray and Scotty Bowman did. I am not knocking Kenny (too much) because he is a great GM, but he pretty much inherited the team that won all those Cups. We are honestly now seeing (with the retirement of Homer) an entire team built by Ken Holland. I am also filing an official protest against him for trading Aaron Ward for the draft pick they used to get Hudler...Aaron would have been far more valuable to this team than Hudler ever was...plus Ward would not have held Holland hostage during a contract negotiation and then bolt to Russia. -
Why not? Sign him so he can play a couple of games in Detroit...maybe some playoff games, get his name on a Cup. Mostly though so he can get a couple of games in and hang em up playing for his hometown(state) and draft team...I understand. Even Modo retired a Red Wing...
-
Would he be worth a shot at for less than $1M? Serious question...I know we have no room, but maybe a shot at him in this sprint to the Cup?
-
Miller is a wing....Knuble is a center. Both a very good penalty killers. I am a Miller fan too, but the Wings are in more need of a 4th line center than another winger. Nothing personal, just business...
