    2022 Draft / UFA

It's that time of year again, College UFA signings coming up! I wonder if there are any on Yzerman's radar?
  2. LeftWinger

    Fabbri or Zadina?

I think Namestnikov will re-sign here for as many times as Yzerman wants...plus Fabbri already sign a 3 year extension. Fabbri is part of this rebuild and will be on our next Cup winning team.

    2022 TDL

It's doesn't reflect on Yzerman that Blashill is not using Leddy correctly. He was supposed to be partnered with Seider, at least that's what the talk was when he was acquired. His stats would be much different is he were. Also, I think that the trade seems worse because they drafted Raty with the pick. We'll see what we can get for Leddy in a couple of weeks. Playoff teams, and Cup contenders like D-men like Leddy. Plus, Panik has only played in 4 games for NYI and with only 1 point.

    Fabbri or Zadina?

I guess, but does it really matter who the fans are interested in? If Boston feels Leddy can help, they'll acquire him. I think Berggren will make the team whether or not Zadina is dealt. We have 3 pending UFA's, what are the chances Yzerman re-signs all of Namestnikov, Gagner and Rowney?

    Fabbri or Zadina?

I too believe that Zadina is just not working out here. That being said, I would not trade him to a divisional team, just in case the change of venue ignites his "filling of the nets!" I would like to see us get DeBrusk, but without sending them Zadina. They need a D, so hypothetically we send them Leddy, what goes with him? Or since they are the divisional rival in need, we don't need to acquire anyone for the playoffs, they do, so you'd think they'd have to pay up, no? Could we do a Leddy for DeBrusk swap? Of course retaining 50% of Leddy's salary. I'd trade Zadina along with Griess to Edmonton for their 1st round pick....or maybe Broberg instead. I know we have a few D prospects that are making huge cases for the NHL, but we have 4 UFA D that (if not traded) most likely will not be back. Unless Yzerman signs Staal for another year as that mentor D.

    BLASHILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

Just my opinion, Zadina and Hronek should be sent to their daddy Holland. Rasmussen should be sent to Seattle or Vancouver. Gimme picks, we have players seemingly ready to step in next season that could replace them. I know they're young and might need time, but I'm done with this losing, I'm ready to turn the corner and start climbing beginning next season. Look at the impact Seider and Raymond have had, those three have more years experience and are light-years worse...at least here. I hate giving up on young players, but these guys aren't what they projected to be, nowhere near. Trade them for some picks, replace with Vrana, Berggren and whichever of our D prospects who steps up the most. I'm not hating on them, but sometimes you just need to turn the page.

    2022 Draft / UFA

McKenzie has him at 11. He has Geekie at 10. If we stay at or around 10, this will be a tough choice for me. I'd be happy with either, but would prefer one of them to be gone so I wouldn't have to choose! BTW, Nice!

    2022 TDL

Holland needs a Goalie in Edmonton, I wonder if he'd be interested in Greiss? He's been VERY consistent and IMO is better than either of the two he has there now. Of course, there are other G's available that may be more attractive. But it's just adds a little interest to trade Greiss instead of just letting him walk UFA come July. Maybe a pick? Or a package for a high pick and/or prospect? We ALL know Holland loves to overpay! Namestnikov has 23 points ATM, that would have to garner better than a 3rd to a contender? I'd be happy to re-sign him in July. Dekeyser....ugh... Leddy should get some looks. Sure he isn't tearing it up here, but this is still not a great team. Leddy on a contender is actually a nice piece. I am saying no less than a 2nd, and if Boston really wants him, or Toronto, it'll have to be a 1st because of the division. But I think a 2nd isn't out of the question from any other playoff team. Other than that, I don't think we have any UFA players to trade that will get us much, I don't see Staal getting us too much since he'd have to waive his NMC, and that limits us who can deal with, so the return will be low. Stecher just got back from injury and hasn't played enough really to show a lot of interest. Unless Vancouver would like to get him back, maybe we'd get a 3rd or 4th. I'm still cautiously waiting for that "Hockey Deal" to appear like last year. Could be a package of any of the UFA's above and a signed player, or it could just be a signed player. Although they are young and could, COULD, turn out eventually, I still see the names Zadina, Rasmussen and Hronek possibly in play. Not to keep harping on Holland, but these are Holland players and going back to his need of a goalie, a package of Greiss and one of these players could bring us a nice return. I just happen to think Hronek is becoming expendable with our D pipeline scorching up their leagues. I have nothing against these three, I just think if we are to see a hockey deal, then these are some names Yzerman would be fine parting ways with. regarding Boston, would you send Leddy and a prospect (or one of the three I mentioned) to them for DeBrusk? Also, with tons of capspace available, I really look forward to seeing Yzerman collecting tons of picks utilizing the cap to transfer some players (retaining salary) to Cup contenders. I know we can only retain 50% and I think up to three(?) players.

You don't feel we have enough D-man prospects? Plus, I am not too keen on trading away a 1st that could possibly end up being Conner Bedard.

    2022 Draft / UFA

I'm hoping for Lambert in the 1st. (since we aren't getting the #1OA of course)

    2022 TDL

UFA's - Gagner, Namestnikov, Leddy, Dekeyser, Greiss, Stecher I think Leddy may be the only one of these that will garner any interest. "Hockey" trade targets - We all heard rumors of Mantha possibly being dealt last season, but honestly, did we have any idea of what a deal it was to be for us or if there was even one out there? In addition to attempting to deal some UFA, I can see Yzerman pulling out another last minute "hockey trade" and surprise us all. I think a couple of names that may be dangled out there are Zadina, Hronek, Rasmussen and possibly Veleno. (I'm not saying all of them will be dealt.) What would it take to make our team better again? Would Chicago trade Debrincat, Strome or Dach? What is Holland ready to give up? What would the price(s) be? Let's say you packaged Zadina, Leddy and a 2nd what (or which one) would that be a starting point at? It's almost a guarantee Yzerman will be adding assets from teams in order to retain salary and help those teams out with cap issues. Maybe we flip some of those assets too? Do we hold tight with these young kids or do we try to upgrade? Is there anything even worth acquiring (outside of picks) this year?

    2022 TDL

We basically got Leddy, Vrana, Ned and Cossa for Mantha and Bernier! (all while throwing around picks here and there!)
  14. LeftWinger

    2022 TDL

Yes, we can do both for sure. Last year we technically sold some vets for picks and also bought Vrana (stole actually.) It can be done, especially by Yzerman!

    2022 TDL

If we can get a 1st for Leddy, then I am all in. DD is not going to bring you that return, maybe a 5th. Staal has a NMC so he'd have to waive, but he still won't bring back a 3rd. Vlad would never bring that back in return either. Kane was on waivers just a week or so ago, if Yzerman didn't want him then, he isn't going to trade an asset for him. Not giving a 1st up for an expiring contract unless we were that piece away from winning a Cup. If I get a 1st for Leddy, I am using it at the draft. Edmonton will be out in the 1st round anyhow. It'll be a nice 16-20 pick. If I do trade away Leddy, and need to address the lack of vet presence, I will try to sign Lindholm instead. But again, I really don't think Leddy will bring a 1st, so if not, I would just keep him...not unless Yzerman has an agreement with him that when he acquired him he promised he'd move him to a contender. But I am not sure he would make that promise.

    2022 TDL

The only player that is going to draw any interest is Leddy. But, again, I think we need to re-sign him. We cannot go into next season with Hronek and Oesterle as our vets on D. That would be a huge step backwards. I don't see any interest in Staal or DD, nor do I see them being re-signed. Instead of trading Leddy, then trying to fill the veteran hole over the summer, just keep him (especially if we're knocking on the playoffs door) and extend him. Replace Staal and DD with rookies and we'll still have a pretty seasoned core, especially with how good Seider is. Leddy - Seider Rookie - Hronek Oesterle - Lindstrom (Rookie) What ever the low draft pick we'd receive for Vlad is not worth it. Just keep him. I think being a home-town kid, he'll re-up on the cheap just to be part of this organIzation. I am sure he'd love to be part of the transformation into Cup contenders. Other than that I can see possibly Zadina being dealt in a Mantha-type deal like last TDL. But, as much as he is criticized, he is only 22. Same goes with Ras, but I really hope they BOTH turn it around, they are falling down the ranks on this team.

My God! Jack Hughes just signed an 8 year $64M contract extension! He has 56 points in 122 games! 11 goals ONCE! Raymond and Seider are going to cost us a TON!!!

He makes a lot of mistakes besides not scoring. Gets tossed out of faceoff circle all the time too...too many mistakes.

actually, here's what Hockey-Reference says the trade was... March 18, 1997: Traded by the Toronto Maple Leafs to the Detroit Red Wings for unknown compensation. Guess we'll never know!

    2022 Draft / UFA

I believe they should trade Rasmussen. He just isn't working here. He could go somewhere, get MORE icetime and be better. Get what we can for him, and move on. If he continues to under-achieve then that's on him, if he becomes what he was drafted to be, then so be it. I just don't think he's fitting too well in his role here.

    2022 Draft / UFA

This off season will be one of the first ones to where I am not too worried about signing any bigger name UFA's. I am ok with addressing within ( I still think Leddy will be re-signed) along with Fabbri. I think even Namestnikov will re-sign. I am sure Yzerman will look to fill in with NHL players like he did this year, but I really don't see any bigger names. But know this, if not in 2022, then in 2023 those bigger names might be calling Yzerman instead of the other way around. Other players around the league are taking notice of the progress this team is making.

11/30_GDT_No Rat and No Pied Piper_Wings vs Bruins_8:00 PEI Time

Why do people think Fabbri is going to get traded? Just because they are UFA to be, doesn't mean they're being dealt. He is worth more than any draft pick coming back that is NOT a 1st....and he isn't bringing back a 1st. I am confident he will finish the season with Detroit and be re-signed. I think it's more likely one of Hronek or Zadina gets dealt before Fabbri.

    2021 Off-Season (Too Soon?)

Is it too soon to be talking about this summer? With the last couple of weeks of snow and cold here in Michigan, I think it's a great time to start talking about summer. Let's start with available UFA's. Instead of listing a whole bunch, here the link to Cap Friendly's list: https://www.capfriendly.com/browse/free-agents/2022/caphit/all/all/ufa I honestly don't see Yzerman landing many (if any) impact UFA's, because I think a couple of kids coming in will be an upgrade in itself. When it comes to our own UFA's, I am hoping for most to hit the road (if they weren't traded at the TDL.) Honestly though, I can see Yzerman re-signing Ryan (if he wants to stay (and not traded)) and maybe Merrill and, yes, Staal. Maybe none, I wouldn't be surprised either way. In the G department, there isn't many out there better than Bernier (that would come here) so I can see Bernier coming back for a year or two, and I think most of us would be ok with that. (this is all depending on who was and who wasn't selected by Seattle and who may or may not be traded.) Helm and Filppula have to go (IMO) and I do believe the Gagner experiment is over too. I would choose Staal over Nemeth, but you never know what will happen if DD is done, he may re-sign both. Unless someone other than Seider is ready to come in. You would think that Cholowski and Lindstrom would be getting some looks this season (especially since we suck and we should just consider this a 56 game training camp/pre-season) but that is up to Blashill on who plays and doesn't, so, once again, I blame him for everything. I would also offer Glenny another contract. RFA-wise, we have a lot of them Erne, Djoss, Hronek, Bertuzzi, Cholowski, Lindstrom, Svech, Brome, Rasmussen, Hirose, Smith, Turgeon, Smith and Hicketts. A few of these names are slam dunks to get contracts, a lot of the others depend on if they aren't selected by Seattle. BUT, there is quite the possiblility they all get qualified and re-signed. Obviously we want to draft the highest possible. Right now, only Ottawa is worse than us winning percentage, so that puts at #2, but barely, we could end up worst again. Let's hope that the league does the right thing and makes the bottom 5 teams be the only ones to have a shot at #1, and only being able to fall one spot. That is my hope. Also teams that finish out of the top 5 should only be able to climb 2 spots at the most. Not saying this is what might happen, just throwing an idea out there. Here are a couple of top 10 lists: ...a bit of a mix up in all of those, but for you U of M fans, you are well represented in the top 10! (Even Luke Hughes has committed to U of M.) AND of course, my ultimate off season upgrade is to FIRE ALL of the coaching staff (yesterday!) and get a whole new philosophy in here.
