Don't let the facts get in the way...you just answered your own observation. Sure everyone in the NHL knows he is going to California, but there are three teams in California who would love his services. San Jose needs a knew identity, Anaheim is looking for a top 2 defenseman since Niedermayer retired for good. Los Angeles may be a piece or two away from making a serious run at the Cup. So even though a trade scenario would probably only involve three teams, if all three of those teams want him, then you may be able to get something of value in return. Ryan Clowe may be a stretch, but if all three teams are interested, he will get us more than a lower round draft pick. Quincey garnered a 1st round pick, Stuart is a bit more valuable than Quincey on the market...Fact.

again, this team with Morrow, Parise and Semin on it is FAR superior than having Franzen, Cleary, Hudler. You can have Franzen all you want, I cannot convince you of Morrow, but you don't have to convince me of Franzen, he proves time and time again that he is lazy and has no heart. He needs to go play in a league that has 40-50 games in the regular season, because after that point he is horrible. And his performance the last two playoffs? He isn't worth Helm's salary. And that is FACT. So you can talk down to someone else about not doing homework or not seeing the facts. Facts are this...Red Wings in its current state is a stale hockey club and Franzen is a big reason why...he just proved it....yet again. Time for change.

...and you will get results like the last three years every time. Me not do homework? You act like I am just throwing names out there. Semin (dont know where he gets the bad work ethic label from) even with his "bad work ethic" he is a prolific scorer and was 2nd in scoring behind Ovechkin this year and is currently 4th in playoff scoring for Washington and leads them in goals. Semin and Datsyuk are wondrous together when they play for Russia in any type of National tournament. Homework on a player doesn't mean just hearing things like "he is lazy" from disgruntled fans or he is a "floater." It's not always about "The Best" player you can get, you have to build your team based on chemistry. Drew Miller was put on waivers when Detroit picked him up. Obviously a certain team thought he was not good enough to keep around, yet he comes to Detroit and fills a role needed and becomes a very important part of a bottom six that at one point (when healthy) was arguably the best bottom six in the NHL. Morrow would only make that bottom six better as would Bertuzzi. Adding Parise and Semin in the top six would make Datsyuk and Zetterberg look that much better and play that much better. Franzen has grown stale, and honestly, if you are talking about "lazy" and "attitude" I really do not want someone playing for MY team who says he gets so bored in the regular season that he mails it in on occasion. Then to follow it up with consecutive post seasons like this? I am spending the $100,000 more for a player that actually has heart and puts himself out there every single game 100%. Hey, if it takes less to get Morrow, then super, but Morrow is the type of third line player this team needs. If it doesn't take Franzen to get him, then I am trading Franzen for another player that will make this team better. Franzen is horrible and he proved it by his statements and his play. Hell even Boyd the void had a good season playing with Datsyuk one year...

Oh, he is going, his wife cannot come here unless her ex changes the terms of the custody. She can only live so far away from her ex because of their daughter. Stuart will be in California next season. Lets hope Holland trades his rights in order to get something for him!
-
EXACTLY! Dats is Dats....Bertuzzi is a 3rd liner and Franzen is heartless... Franzen ALWAYS looks like he is on his way to 40+ goals...then after January he scores 2 goals the rest of the season...(exaggerating of course, but he always "gets bored" the second half...now he is just horrible!) ...and PLEASE do not mention the GWG stat...the way that stat is rewarded makes it the worst stat in the NHL.
-
Someone mentioned earlier about trading Stuart's rights, OMG! I never even thought about that! I just assumed he is leaving, he is leaving. How cool would it be to trade Stuart to San Jose for Clowe? If Stuart isn't enough, we can throw in Hudler as well. Shoot, why not?
-
Yes, Morrow would fit in wonderfully on the 3rd line with Helm/Bertuzzi. He brings grit and leadership to this team, both of which Franzen has none of, and as for losing Franzen's scoring (a whole 56 points from our "sniper") I am replacing him with Parise and Semin (plus Morrow is only a season removed from his own 56 points.) So trading Franzen, Cleary and letting Holmstrom retire and Hudler walk, while bringing in Parise, Semin and Morrow, I would say that pretty much fills a ton of needs on the offensive front...So no, my "FIX" is not to just trade Franzen for Morrow (although yes, Morrow is an all around upgrade to Franzen) it's just a piece to the puzzle. If Parise and Semin are signed, then Franzen falls to 3rd line anyhow and on the 3rd line, Morrow is tons better than Franzen...
-
Much like Franzen... Don't get me wrong, I am a huge Hossa fan and defender. But he was mostly known as a scorer before he came here and not too much on the defensive end...
-
Helm and Abby won't get that big of a raise...I stand by my lineup...it beats your example all season long and in the playoffs...
-
Franzen just proved to the entire world that he has zero heart. He floated around like a butterfly and only scored when the time expired and his lazy ass got in the way of the actual man who made the play...and regarding Morrow hitting and limping away....uh...at least he hits. I would Morrow's heart, grit and 20 goals over Franzen and his lazy, heartless, soft nearly 30. Oh and regarding injuries, Franzen has played 180 games the last 3 seasons....Morrow 215. Sorry but if you want results and a change to this franchise to avoid the same crap next season, IMO Franzen has to go. I don't live in one...Franzen, Cleary, Hudler, Emmerton, Mursak and Kindl were all tradeable at the deadline, and they are all tradeable at the draft. (minus Hudler the UFA) Honestly, I believe that signing Suter and re-signing Quincey along with promoting Smith full time will more than cover the loss of Lids and Stuart. Especially they way Lids played the end of the season and payoffs. I understand he was nursing an injury, but if he cannot heal correctly, it's time to call it a career...he just looked worn down and tired...it may be over.

I have said it before, even though I would like to have Morrow here in exchange for Franzen, I could see Vancouver trying to unite him with the Sedins and I would love to have Burrows here! Unlikely, but a good example of you exact scenario described... I could also see Cleary being shipped off to be the a veteran leader of a young up and coming team as well...
-
It's kind of hard to be lazier than Franzen, and the Wings system isn't that great anymore. Hossa was a floater, Hull was a floater most of his career. Semin is a floater and a sniper, he could hit 40 or 50 playing with his countryman and National teammate. Datsyuk needs that type of player, he needs a pure scorer. There is NOBODY on the Wings that compliments Dastyuk in that fashion and nobody in the system ready to step up to the first line and keep up with Dats. Nyquist has shown flashes, but by time he is a legit #1 line player, Dats will be in his last contract and headed towards retirement...he needs help now. Besides, its not like they will be acquiring Hossa again or even Kovalchuk
-
Thank you Holmstrom for a awesome, AWESOME career and ride...but it's time to hang em up. You have nothing to regret if you do.
-
No doubt, he will be playing somewhere in the league next season, I wouldn't be surprised if Vancouver never trades him either.
-
Yep, typical of Ken Holland...looks like we are in for another "Holland" off season.

We Need to Get Tougher to Play Against
LeftWinger replied to Bring Back The Bruise Bros's topic in General
although, even though I really REALLY hope for it, I know it is highly unlikely that Franzen and Cleary will be shipped out, but honestly, any lineup that includes Franzen, Cleary & Hudler will NEVER be tough or even hard to play against. This is Holland's off-season to prove to everyone in Detroit and the NHL that they are serious about winning The Cup every year they can. He needs to make an impact on this lineup over the summer. All UFA's need to go bye bye (Sorry Lids, I just don't see the drive in you anymore, but if you find it, we have $2M waiting for you!) and all of Franzen, Cleary, Emmerton and Mursak need to be traded...It's go time...this will define Holland's ability, with Lids and Holmsrtom likely retiring, he official steps out of what Scotty Bowman and into an entire team HE builds. I do beleive those two are the last players from the Scotty Bowman era... -
Ya, TV's will explode when too many people around the world are watching Phoenix vs. Florida in the Cup Final... Honestly, do you think ANYONE would want Luongo? I don't even think the Islanders would want him (again.)
-
Also, a follow up on Iginla, I don't think we have the expendable assets to acquire him. Franzen would not get him here, you'd have to add some key pieces to Detroit's future to that trade. Same story for Nash, you would deplete GRR. Franzen + Mursak (or Emmerton) would get Detroit Morrow. Then you only lose one prospect with NHL experience and Franzen (who has become stale in this system and town) and you acquire a gritty, tough (albeit somewhat injury prone) third line winger that will complement Helm and Bertuzzi well. It's not always about getting the best players, it's about getting the players that will play well together and have similar game. That is why I defend the people talking about getting Semin here to play with Datsyuk. So he is a floater, but he is a pure sniper and that is what Dats needs. Hull was a floater most of his career and look what that got him... If you had a line of Parise-Dats-Semin, you just may see two 40 goal scorer's and Dats would finally break the 100 point mark... Then imagine a line of Morrow-Helm-Bertuzzi. That would be a very tough line to do anything against. Follow that up with Miller-Abby-Eaves(if healthy) and you have very VERY good bottom 6. That leaves Filppula and Zetterberg with their chemistry together and inject Nyquist on their the other side and you could have 2 of the best top lines in the league instantly...
-
...and how could he pass on acquiring all those GWG's? Franzen + Franzen cannot either....plus is his VERY unreliable AND a wussy... EDIT: Forget Iginla...the time for aging stars, past thier prime in Detroit is over...plus he makes WAAAY too much money...
-
Parise - Datsyuk - Semin Filppula - Zetterberg - Nyquist Morrow - Helm - Bertuzzi Eaves - Abdelkader - Miller Tatar(Sheahan) Suter - Kronwall White - Quincey Ericsson - Smith Kindl(Dekeyser) Howard Vokoun
-
I can think of 14 other teams (well maybe not a few of them) that would have loved to just make the playoffs, so we can definitely go down from here...Lets just hope Holland plops out the loaf that is binding him up and he actually takes a risk at changing this team, finally...It's time to rebuild.

WCQF Game 5 GDT : Red Wings 1 at Predators 2

To Sum up this season in three words......JUCK ******* POTT! -
Yep: The Rest Of The Season (minimum 25 games) Chris Simon of the New York Islanders, for a slash to the face of the Rangers' Ryan Hollweg in March, 2007. Simon misses 15 regular season games plus all of the Islanders' playoff games. The suspension carries over to 2007-08 if necessary to meet the 25-game minimum. AND THEN AGAIN THE FOLLOWING SEASON: 30 Games Chris Simon of the New York Islanders, for stomping on the leg of Pittsburgh's Jarko Ruutu in December, 2007. It is the seventh suspension of Simon's NHL career.
-
Consider this....what was Bertuzzi's TOTAL games missed after "The Incident?" Now, compare that to this hit....WAY WAY too harsh...I think Bertuzzi missed about 20 games total....

More like 90% of LGW. In stark contrast, I was hoping to be wrong, but I was 100% sure he wasn't going to. There were a few of us, but we were definitely in the minor of minorist (yes, made up word) minorities!
