Wait....Come on guys, it's only December... Franzen? Really? Awesome scoring? God I hope he has played his last game as a Wing...yet, somehow I think he will be right back on Datsyuk's wing in October.... -

Geez, out of all this, we don't even get the realignment next season either!!! -

I really REALLY hope Holland FINALLY makes these changes that are needed! I hope he shows us all that he is a great GM and acquires the talent that this team needs. No longer can you keep the likes of Franzen or Cleary. Make changes Kenny, make changes... didn't you know? Since we are bashing the Wings player and management, none of us are fans...we hate everything about the Wings...Lets go Penguins! EDIT: -1, see told ya! Here come the neggers...too bad you can hold no water right now. This team stinks, we told you so at the deadline and you laughed, now what? Neg Neg Neg...you are more yellow than Franzen... -

Yes!!! I think you and I got a lot of the same hate since the deadline. They are always so quick to neg and hate on you, but never like to eat the crow or a piece of humble pie... -

I just look at this team through my own eyes and not rose glasses. I have been with this team since 1979 have seen the worst, seen a building of a champion and now into this. I have never held back from saying something that needed to be said. The problem is, most "fans" think if you say something bad about the Wings, then you aren't a true fan. I live and breathe Red & White. That is why I can objectively criticize this team with both positive and negative views. I shouldn't have to watch hot garbage skate around the ice only giving 60% because the regular season gets boring to them. f*** that! You are a GD Red Wing! You are part of my franchise! I don't want a s***ty player playing for my franchise. And if you don't deserve to be on the greatest franchise in professional sports, I have no problem calling you out...And if Holland tries to continue with this small skilled type player format, he needs to be fired. This type of team cannot compete for the Cup anymore, they just proved it. -

You are right. And for sure, prices were high on trade day. But man, everytime I said something that referred to Holland NOT being the best or Franzen not being good, not to mention the last 4 years of my Hudler bashing. I do agree with you, they need more than one player and I hope to end all hopes that Holland show us he is genius and makes at least 4-5 player changes this summer... -

Amen! You see that as Scotty's players slowly left and Holland's team took over, they got worse and worse. Franzen and Hudler are the biggest frauds EVER. Neither deserve to be here next season... -

Ok, can I now please say what I want to say? ...nevermind, you all have been saying it this entire series. Can I get at least a couple apology's for the hate I had to endure since the deadline? -

Cool! That means we'll get the 15th overall pick? ....oh wait, Tampa will. We got Quincey. I read all this stuff today and think back to when I said exactly the same thing about certain players and Holland. I know at the time, it may have seemed like I was just over-reacting. But I think it is painfully obvious right now, that even though at the time they were 1st overall, I was on the right track. Now, lets see if Holland can live up to his "Best GM" moniker and actually turn this team back in to a contender over the summer... I have no faith in him and I think he has turned this team into a place where UFA's do not want to come. Holland refuses to pay top dollar for top talent. Hey Ken, players no longer feel it a privilege to play in Detroit just because. The days of taking less to be a Red Wing is over...maybe Wisniewski was speaking more truth than we first thought when he spouted off... -

I was just gonna say, that it is so nice to see Franzen on a line where he belongs. Where is "Playoff" Franzen? Oh, we're watching him... -
Uh.... You are talking POST lockout right? Because I give you two names....Hasek & Joseph... edit: Just for giggles, Hasek made $8M in 01-02 then again in 03-04 for Detroit, a year AFTER CuJo signed for $8M for the 02-03 and 03-04 season. So for the year 2003-2004 Detroit's goalie payroll was $9.1M (including Manny's $1.1M) YIKES!
-
It would be only for one last season and it would be to acquire REAL talent for this team...if he signs for more, then all we'll see is more of this crap we've seen since Feb. Retire or $2M....only options to make this team back into a contender...
-
Well its obvious, "HIS" kind of players aren't getting it done, yet again...I am just saying, the prospect of the chemistry between the Sedins and Franzen may be attractive to him. And Franzen wouldn't come for free...it won't happen, but I would love it!
-
I agree with you....but I would definitely take Burrows over Franzen...and if Van gets eliminated, they may look for something like this to go with a bit of chemistry...they would for sure be looking for a missing piece from somewhere...I am sure they'd rather snagged Zetterberg for the Sedins, but who wouldn't?
-
Now there is a VERY interesting situation....I know I thought about Franzen to Dallas so he could play with Eriksson and bring us Morrow...but I think if Vancouver felt that Franzen could be a missing piece to their puzzle, if they fail to get out of the first round, they will be looking to make a crucial change....so I ask you, would you take Alexandre Burrows for Franzen? I think I would...Interesting....VERY interesting.... edit: Negg? Really? Burrows AND Morrow WAY better than Franzen...make that trade ALL DAY!
-
I would rather go the Nabokov or Vokoun route to push Jimmy into being a better goalie rather than tie up nearly $8M in two goalies for a season, then most likely losing Howard when his deal is up. Now if Luongo came in a won us a Cup next year, sure the gamble would be worth it, but I think the $5.25M would be better used in finding the help we really need...Jimmy is fine when 100%. Get him a better team to play in front of him and a goalie to push him for his job, now we are back in business...
-
Kenny just thought that his team was better than what it was...he thought people would step up, he just knew Franzen would "return." Hudler would "appear," Bertuzzi would "impact," the list will go on and on. He "liked" this team and felt that trading someone that he feels is the heart of this team was not worth the risk. Well, IMO, the heart of this team starts at Datsyuk & Zetterberg and ends with Helm & Abby. Franzen & Cleary are not part of that. Not that anyone inquired about those two, but I would really like to see what some of the offers were out there. Just to find out what Holland passed up on. He definitely overpaid for Quincey, I really would love to see what Columbus wanted for Nash. What Anaheim was wanting for Perry...etc...prices were probably very high, but just to know what Holland actually passed on would be very interesting...
-
It's not that Holland will offer him $2M, that would be asinine. BUT Lidstrom needs to tell Holland one of two things by draft day. Either "I'm hanging them up" or "Kenny, I will play one more year for $2M, get some players here who desire to win!" If Lidstrom re-signs for $5.5M or more? Forget EVER making this team better. Suter will go elsewhere, Parise will go elsewhere, nobody that will make a serious impact on this team will sign here for pennies, just because it the Red Wings. IF that happens, Holland may as well just re-sign Hudler too. And not sign anybody else, then keep all the cap space for the deadline....then...broken record. Lidstrom....Please, for the sake of this team becoming the Dead Wings again, retire or $2M. If Yzerman will take $1.5M for one last shot, then take a page from "THE" Captain...
-
as long as that other option is a perfect compliment to Datsyuk (like Hossa was). This team needs TWO pure scorer's. Maybe Semin for a year to see what gels, if he works out great, if not, he moves on...
-
I tend to agree, but for wishes I don't even want Weber, but would love Suter...
-
Wow, -51? Anyhow, other than you choice in thread title, you are't that far off. I agree Holmstrom and Lidstrom need to seriously, SERIOUSLY consider retiring. Bertuzzi is signed for two more years. Hudler does need to go and Howard DOES need a goalie who is going to challenge him for the starting spot. He needs that push to become better... ...but your choice in titles, wow. Z and D are two player you NEVER trade. On my UNtradeable list are: Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Filppula, Nyquist, Helm, Abby, Smith. Others I keep are Quincey, Ericsson, White, Miller, Eaves & Howard. Not counting the UFA's Holmstrom and Lidstrom, everyone else is fair game... In order for this team to succeed next year at all, at the very least Hudler CANNOT be in their plans...
-
Yes, that is Ryan Suter, but there was only one other to play, his uncle Gary Suter. You are think of the SuTTer's, and there was/is about 5,000 players from that family it seems... Ya, it would be a bite to nab Suter, it's happened before, 2003 Anaheim eliminates the Red Wings in first round, July 1st Ducks sign Sergei Fedorov. 2007, Ducks eliminate the Wings in the 3rd round, come July, Ducks sign BOTH Todd Bertuzzi and Mathieu Schneider out from under us...not that it matter in the next year anyhow.
-
If nobody is going to take Franzen's horrible contract off our hands, then still go after Parise and Semin and demote Franzen to the third line with Helm & Bertuzzi. If Bertuzzi plays anywhere near the top two, then I hate the re-signing of him. Third line is perfect for Bert. It will be fine for Franzen too. I don't mind Franzen in a third line role, but he is NOWHERE near a top 6 forward anymore. Not on this team or most others. He's NEVER be picked to be an All-Star and as hokey as the ASG Weekend is, it still speaks wonders of what the fans and your piers think of you as a player. Let Hudler walk. Zetterberg and Datsyuk and even Filppula need skilled scoring forwards. Parise - Datsyuk - Semin Filppula - Z - Nyquist Bert - Helm - Franzen Miller - Abdelkader - Eaves Tatar(Sheahan) I'd prefer just dumping Frazen and acquiring Morrow for that third line though... Agree with both of you! The 3 or 4 player change AND not holding my breath... Leaving - Cleary, Franzen, Hudler, Emmerton, Mursak, Stuart (Lids & Holms retires) Coming - Morrow, Parise, Semin, Suter, Smith
-
I am sure he meant retire in that sense, but I agree. If Lidstrom even sniffs more than $2M, then he needs to retire. This team needs a huge overhaul and getting rid of his salary is a great place to start. IMO, he needs to retire, but what will happen is, he will tell everyone he is waiting to see how his ankle heals, then he will handcuff Holland all summer (not that I expect Holland to do whats right for this team anyhow) and the top guys will all be gone...Then Lids will decide late August that he is retiring...Ok, ok, I joke about that one, but he needs to decide before July 1st, preferably by the draft so Holland can start formulating a plan... Too much...if they re-sign him for that much, this team is screwed next year. If they want Suter and Parise, they need to be able to offer $14M-$16M between the two of them. Getting only one of them is not enough. Like I said, with the way he is playing and the lack of healing, he needs to seriously think about retiring... edit: You people that don't agree with this are stupid. He is obviously struggling because of injury, if he cannot fully recover he needs to hang em up. If you dont agree with that then you are dumber than I thought. Of course since you just neg and don't say why we'll never know what your thoughts are. They are probably just this anyhow "Wah Wah, don't say Nicky will retire..he is God!"
