Come on really? One playoff loss to them in 20 years? Sure the Oates trade hurt at first, but it never got the Blues anywhere. If Oates would have stayed a Wing, things would have been different, sure, but things would have turned out different too! You probably don't make the trade for Carson, which doesn't bring you Coffey, which doesn't get you Shanahan. Who would you have rather had? Oates or Shanahan? If you make the playoffs that year, you don't draft Primeau, who also brought you Shanahan. Maybe Fedorov doesn't defect at the Goodwill games and he re-enter's the draft and gets drafted by someone else and there is never a Russian 5. You cannot mess with the space time continuum. Things happen for a reason. You can say that the Oates deal was one of the worst made, but in the end, it was one of the best things to happen to Detroit since 1983. The Blues can have Hull & Oates and all the goals and assists. I will take the back to back Cups in the 90's and then the two more in the 2000's. What does Oates have? Stats....period. What does St. Louis have? Nothing....are they ahead of the Wings? Sure, will they finish ahead, probably, but you don't need the #1 seed to win the Cup...the Wings have proven that, time and time again!

I am telling you, his sister is pretty sure he is coming here. The only thing that may attract him away from here is that he will get instant playing time in Tampa (which is the other place he is considering.) This is my fear for next season. I fear that re-signing Quincey and adding Smith to the lineup will make Holland not want to persue Suter. Even if Stuart leaves. If Lidstrom retires, maybe he may throw an offer out there, but it will be probably be an offer that is lower than Pav's cap hit. Which means Suter will most likely not come here. I know the D is playing ok, but if they lose both Lids and Stuart and miss out on Suter....yikes. But, hey, maybe it won't be so bad. I hear they are really pursuing Dekeyser from WMU and considering his play in the NCAA tournament so far, he will get some serious offers. Plus looking at the Wings d-men in GRR, Dekeyser isn't that far fetched to possibly earning a 6th spot on this roster. You never know what Holland may do...I would hope he would go hard for someone if Lids and Stuart leave, but you just never know... Kronwall - White Quincey - Ericsson Smith - Dekeyser Kindl Don't know how that would work, but I can think of a lot worse defense's in the league.... All that being said, I cannot describe how much I hope Holland goes after Suter...

You get negged because people negg for no reason, then they hide...anyway fortunately there is no roster limit now so Smith can stay even when all are healthy, let's just hope he stays in the lineup. He is better than Ericsson or Kindl (come on E and Kindl slappies, start negging) so he should remain in the lineup throughout the season and playoffs...

You are right. I expect too much. I will wait to pass judgement on this team when it is 100% and then see what happens. I will wait to see Franzen The Great make his return in the playoffs before I spew more negativity about him, Hudler as well. I just don't like when I state my opinion and get negged for no reason or at least not debated why someone thinks I may be wrong. I could see if I said "Wings Suck" or didn't even try to put together a post, but I simply just said after the deadline that St. Louis and Nashiville were coming hard and I wouldn't be surprised if they both passed then Wings up. Of course I got laughed at and negged, but it is happening. Injuries or not, it is happening. I hope a healthy Wings team climbs back up, but Nashville and St. Louis don't seem to be slowing down. I just get pissed over the neggs because no one seems to want to say why they disagree. They just negg because someone says something bad about a Wings player. I would love for Smith to remain in the lineup, but that would require Ericsson to sit. Although E is not as good as he has shown to be in previous years, I don't know if Holland will allow Babcock to have $3M+ sitting in the press box as a healthy scratch. I hope Smith and Quincey make up the #5/6 slots, but I just don't see Ericsson not playing when healthy...that's too bad. edit: As a matter of fact if both Stuart and Lidstrom leave next year, this is the lineup I want to see: Suter-Kronwall White-Quincey Smith-Ericsson Kindl I can do without either or both of E and Kindl, but not too sure who would replace them.

a win is a win. Injuries yes, but there are still regualar players not stepping it up...they shall remain nameless but you all know who they are. Smith, Z, Fil played great...Helm is Helm and will be a fixture here for a long time. Migity Mac made the saves when he had to. Nyquist looked like he was excited to be here and got an assist to show for it. Hopefully he takes Hudler's spot next season. Pretty much a snoozer game, but glad they got the 2 points...

For those of you who think the Wings can win the Cup......i dont think so...

on the other side of the ball sack, Hudler, Helm, Miller and Filppula are make LESS than Franzen and are out performing him on a regular basis. Filppula is way more valuable to this team than Franzen...so is Helm and Abdelkader, so you can argue his salary both ways. He is overpaid considering for his lack of consistency IMO. He takes a raincheck on most nights. If he would play 100% for 82 games? He'd be making $8M somewhere...

TO hell with Sharp, his goal was lucky...my question is how the hell does Keith get away with pummeling your #2 guy on the team without any repercussions? Keith should be minus head right now...

I tend to agree about his back. Listen, I love Zetterberg, he was a beast in 08' but the Wings should have never given him that life long contract with his history of back issues. I know that the length needed to be that long in order to bring the cap hit down, but he will never play as long as his contract is...the exact same goes for Franzen...well except I hate him. Not sure why you got negged for that, it would be nice for the yellowbelly coward to debate why they negged someone...

Oh well, that is the past and I agree Smith seems to be a real good find and I hope he is here to stay!

This team could do without any of all 4 of them... I like Cleary with Helm, but Helm makes anyone look good. I could have done without Bertuzzi next season (and the next) but as long as he plays with Datsyuk, he is effective enough....as much as I hate Hudler, I am happy with his resurgence this year, which means he will ask for $5M+ next year as a UFA, I hope Holland lets him walk. If he wants to re-sign for $3M or less, then I have no issues. Franzen, hmmmmm.....leading the team in goals (barely) but is falling fast down the points list. I for one cant stand the people that defend him for his playoff year a couple ago. He is SO inconsistent it hurts. He scores his goals all before March and then struggles to get back. I agree that if he doesn't have another magical playoff at a point per game, he should seriously be shopped or bought out. Ya, his cap hit is not too bad, but he is not earning his $4M. Points are one thing, work ethic and heart are another, he has none of that and like I said is fading on the point scale. But he is what he is...lazy. I am done with him. If they lost all four, I would not hesitate a fart....

Well since Holland could not address this at the deadline, the only thing I can think is to shuffle up the units. Heck give Helm and Abby tops minutes on the PP. I don't think I can think of anything else. Would have been nice to get that sniper, but ether Holland felt the Franzen would show up soon or things were just too expensive...
