a win is a win. Injuries yes, but there are still regualar players not stepping it up...they shall remain nameless but you all know who they are. Smith, Z, Fil played great...Helm is Helm and will be a fixture here for a long time. Migity Mac made the saves when he had to. Nyquist looked like he was excited to be here and got an assist to show for it. Hopefully he takes Hudler's spot next season. Pretty much a snoozer game, but glad they got the 2 points...

Great powerplay.....
-
I said this was gonna happen and got negged 23 times. I hope when they get healthy it turns back around.... .....i love all the hudler and franzen hate! +1,000,000 to all of you!
-
For those of you who think the Wings can win the Cup......i dont think so...
-
on the other side of the ball sack, Hudler, Helm, Miller and Filppula are make LESS than Franzen and are out performing him on a regular basis. Filppula is way more valuable to this team than Franzen...so is Helm and Abdelkader, so you can argue his salary both ways. He is overpaid considering for his lack of consistency IMO. He takes a raincheck on most nights. If he would play 100% for 82 games? He'd be making $8M somewhere...

TO hell with Sharp, his goal was lucky...my question is how the hell does Keith get away with pummeling your #2 guy on the team without any repercussions? Keith should be minus head right now...
-
I tend to agree about his back. Listen, I love Zetterberg, he was a beast in 08' but the Wings should have never given him that life long contract with his history of back issues. I know that the length needed to be that long in order to bring the cap hit down, but he will never play as long as his contract is...the exact same goes for Franzen...well except I hate him. Not sure why you got negged for that, it would be nice for the yellowbelly coward to debate why they negged someone...
-
Oh well, that is the past and I agree Smith seems to be a real good find and I hope he is here to stay!

This team could do without any of all 4 of them... I like Cleary with Helm, but Helm makes anyone look good. I could have done without Bertuzzi next season (and the next) but as long as he plays with Datsyuk, he is effective enough....as much as I hate Hudler, I am happy with his resurgence this year, which means he will ask for $5M+ next year as a UFA, I hope Holland lets him walk. If he wants to re-sign for $3M or less, then I have no issues. Franzen, hmmmmm.....leading the team in goals (barely) but is falling fast down the points list. I for one cant stand the people that defend him for his playoff year a couple ago. He is SO inconsistent it hurts. He scores his goals all before March and then struggles to get back. I agree that if he doesn't have another magical playoff at a point per game, he should seriously be shopped or bought out. Ya, his cap hit is not too bad, but he is not earning his $4M. Points are one thing, work ethic and heart are another, he has none of that and like I said is fading on the point scale. But he is what he is...lazy. I am done with him. If they lost all four, I would not hesitate a fart....

What do you think needs to be done to fix the PP/PK
LeftWinger replied to Jeff6851's topic in General
Well since Holland could not address this at the deadline, the only thing I can think is to shuffle up the units. Heck give Helm and Abby tops minutes on the PP. I don't think I can think of anything else. Would have been nice to get that sniper, but ether Holland felt the Franzen would show up soon or things were just too expensive... -
Red Wings recall Doug Janik, Chris Conner and Jordan Pearce from GR
LeftWinger replied to jeff48109's topic in General
are you serious? You go on to talk about how he is a top prospect and high level, then you want him to have his first NHL experience playing with Franzen? Do you want to taint his work ethic? ...uh, you are not seriously comparing Franzen to Hull are you? Pavel setting up Hull is not comparable to anyone, not even Hossa, but even Pavel setting up Hossa had way better production than Franzen's lazy ass. Next thing we'll be hearing is how Franzen is the next Fedorov... -
Hossa a million times better than Franzen and only $1.375M more per year...oh and has more total points too...it was a mistake, can't change it now, but I am done with Franzen, he is a floater with very little or no heart and barely shows up...you may not agree, but the obvious is obvious. Maybe when Datsyuk returns he can light a fire under Franzen....nah...

Come on back Pavel! This team needs you like the Earth needs the rain! Ya, too bad the Hossa or Franzen one didn't turn out as good...

Red Wings recall Doug Janik, Chris Conner and Jordan Pearce from GR

"Never question Bruce Dickenson!" -
It's just you...tragic how Fish's career ended, but I think that incident is more defining his career than his career did. He had ONE good season and was horribly inconsistent the rest of them...sorry, but I think the sympathy bug has clouded everyone's memory of him. He was great in 2002, but before that, not so great and when he got pummeled by Scott Thornton he turn into, well, Ericsson...
-
I certainly hope you are kidding? Smith is the type of defender this team needs...he hits, fights and clears the front of the net, why on Earth would you want to change his game to a Lidstrom type? Don't they have enough Lidstrom type defenders?
-
Keeping Franzen over Hossa was the right move because Ken Holland is the greatest GM in the history of the world and should never be questioned! (even though Hossa is 1,000,000,000 times better than Franzen ever imagined to be.) Franzen showed his work ethic again against the Hawks. Problem is, this guy will never be traded because every other GM knows his work ethic and wants no part of him. I would just buy him out.
-
Jiri Hudler trying to pussyfoot instead of shooting....nuff said. Other Things: Holland will regret not addressing the powerplay issues at the deadline. Super impressed by Brenden Smith, he is going to be a great player. WHY THE f*** hasn't someone taken Keith's head off yet? He pounded away on your 2nd best player and not even a dirty look from someone like Abby or Bertuzzi or anyone! IF the Wings get eliminated this is what is gonna spell doom for them...Keith should not be standing right now...
-
Tatar - Not even a minute played in the NHL this year... Nyquist - 5 games 0 goals 1 assist Conner - 7 games 1 goal 2 assists Scrub? Anyhow, like I said above, it's all about chemistry... Cleary-Helm-Conner is a great combo and Conner fits in the 3rd or 4th line better than Nyquist or Tatar will. They fit better on scoring lines, but will never crack the top 6 right now...
-
It's all about chemistry! Conner-Helm-Cleary! Miller-Abby-Holmstrom(Mursak) Nyquist may be the future, but we need the right now and he probably won't get any playing time up here.

Ya, Lidstrom will pretty much have to retire if Holland wants to sign BOTH Suter and Parise. Even if Lids signed for $4.5M'ish that would leave enough to give Parise $7M+ and Suter $7M+ especially with some raises to Helm, Abby and Hudler due. I do believe Hudler has played himself into a modest raise (lets say Val's salary) and a long term contract. So up front if you re-sign him, Helm and Abby then sign Parise, one of the bottom two of Emmerton and Mursak will have to be traded or exposed to waiver's...even with that, it makes it very tight on the Cap with Lids signing for $6.2M and Parise for $7.5M, if somehow they could get Parise long term for $7M and maybe lids to accept $6.0M that would loosen up the Cap a bit... FORWARDS Zach Parise ($7.000m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Todd Bertuzzi ($2.075m) Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Jiri Hudler ($3.000m) Daniel Cleary ($2.800m) / Darren Helm ($1.000m) / Johan Franzen ($3.954m) Patrick Eaves ($1.200m) / Drew Miller ($0.837m) / Justin Abdelkader ($0.950m) / Jan Mursak ($0.550m) DEFENSEMEN Nicklas Lidstrom ($6.000m) / Ian White ($2.875m) Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) / Kyle Quincey ($3.000m) Brendan Smith ($0.875m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($3.250m) Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($2.250m) / Joey MacDonald ($0.550m) CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $716,289 Somehow this thread turned into a lines thread (where is blueadams during all of this?!?!) but it is gonna be great if Smith plays like last night all the time, along with getting better and better as he ages!
-
If Smith is NHL ready, Lids returns AND they sign Suter, they will no choice BUT to trade Ericsson because they cannot have a $3M player being the 7th defenseman. Lids-White Kronn-Suter Quincey-Smith You'd have to have Kindl be the #7 because he makes less than $1M. I have a strange feeling though that the re-signing of Quincey is gonna be Holland's July 1st D pickup, because if Lids comes back that will give them 7 NHL defensemen. I think Holland will give Lids his $6.2M and say his defense is set. Lids-White Kronner-Quincey Ericsson-Smith Kindl The only thing this does is give us hope that if Weber does another 1yr deal in Nashville, he will be a UFA in 2013 and we can hope against all hopes that Weber is a Red Wing in 13/14. This will be okay too, then Holland can maybe throw $7M+ for a long term deal to Parise and address that issue. Then attempt to sign Lids replacement in 2013...
-
All are huge threats in their own way, especially on the road... ...definitely the PP/PK... ...Helm will have a great playoff. Franzen....BETTER show up!
-
I was very impressed with both Smith and Quincey last night. IMO they both deserves playing time over and above Ericsson and Kindl. I think this defense is in great shape even with Stuart probably leaving and even if Lidstrom retires. I still think Holland should go hard after Suter. I know it probably won't happen, but Lids needs to come back for around $4.5M in order to secure Suter and Parise long term. If he doesn't feel he can take the pay cut, then there is going to be issues siging Suter and Parise. That is only my opinion though and Anyhow, Smith looked real good yesterday, let's see if he can stay out of the abysmal black hole on the road that the rest of this team falls into. Good for him! BTW: I absolutely LOVE Franzen's demotion. He is even lacking effort on the third line....damn that stupid ass contract. It just shows me that if the Wings ditched Ericsson and Lidstrom retired, the D would be okay without them! Next Season: Suter-White Kronwall-Quincey Smith-Kindl Janik

http://www.letsgowings.com/forums/index.php?app=forums&module=forums§ion=findpost&pid=2245427 I put this up a few weeks ago... According to my buddies female acquaintance (Dan's Sister) it's gonna be Detroit or Tampa, Detroit for the obvious reason's and Tampa because Yzerman pretty much guaranteed him immediate NHL time. It's nice that it seems more and more a possibility of happening. I have watched a few WMU games since my buddy told me about him and he does look pretty dominant out there. He also invited me to the NCAA Championship if WMU makes it. If they make the Frozen four, he is going to Florida to watch him as well. (I cannot make that trip.) I think this would be a great signing...
