Leave some room for.Parise.....please!

For those of you saying "its just one game" or "still first overall," you are right, cant win them all, but the worry is, they cant seem to win on the road. Sure there are folks here that are overreacting a bit, but even so, this team plays really bad on the road, and that is very concerning. Going back to the Montreal game, the Wings have only 2 wins on the road and those are both by shootout. While its not right to be calling for heads to roll, but considering that they play like an IHL team on the road and havent put together a good road game in a couple of months, the concern is actually a bit warranted.....

Kyle Quincey traded to Detroit in 3 team trade (TBL & COL)
LeftWinger replied to Tim.D's topic in General
Pulkkinen, Jurco, Sheahan, Jarnkrok, Nyqvist...we could lose Tatar and not look back, especially if it brought us a top winger in return... I understand your nightmare, but I think we'd be okay in the long run anyhow...even without Tatar. -

And this should end the debate and the thread.... I trust Holland. I hope he gets a forward, someone earlier mentioned Ott, WOW, would that be cool!!?!? Morrow is always on my wish list, but if Ott could be had, there goes the idea that we aren't tough....You listening Cherry? -

+1! Listen guys, Piche' was never gonna make it here, Holland usually trades away his 1st rounders at the draft anyhow for more low rounders. The draft is a crap shoot and he prefers to draft lower to let the draft picks simmer in their Junior clubs and GRR until they are nice and ripe and ready for the NHL. How often does Holland draft NHL ready players? Exactly... This is a good move. Quincey is better than Kindl. Throws his body around more than Ericsson. -

I may be in the minority here, but I think this is a nice deal. Kyle is a big upgrade over Kindl, he is much better (maybe not tougher) than Commodore, he will be a nice addition here. Welcome back Kyle! and for those who think a first was too much, not only is the first gonna be at least in the bottom 4, it may be #30 overall, just like everyone is saying, but consider this, when was the last time Holland even used his first? The first is so low every year he usually trades it away for another 2nd round pick. Which he has done at least the last two season's. This could mean Holland isn't done, he has said Smith will be coming up soon to get some playing time, maybe Kindl is on his way out, who know's. But as minor as this deal was, it is a little exciting. Quincey will make an impression, trust me. Where are all the folks that were complaining just last week about how we lost him to waivers a few years ago. They should be happy! Now please Holland, SNIPER, POWER PLAY SPECIALISTS, PLEASE!!!! THIS! -
19-3 BTW, you are only giving them 3 more road wins? Oh ye of little faith.....

Start Jimmy vs. Chicago AND Vancouver to get him back into game shape, then rotate every other until the playoffs. Or maybe give Jimmy 2 and Joey 1 every three. Joey has proven he can play against the elite teams, so its no matter who the Wings start him and Jimmy against. I just say, give Jimmy the next two to get going and then do a rotation. I feel for Ty, but if he goes unclaimed he will get plenty of playing time in GRR and at the same salary, so he won't be up here but he will be making his NHL salary. GRR is in desperate need of a goalie every since Joey has been gone, so Conklin would be a welcome sight. If he does get claimed then it will be a team that needs him to play right now, so he will get his playing time there as well. I would love for him to stay in the organization and even re-sign to play in GRR next season, because he will get huge minutes and when he plays alot, he plays great! Ty shouldn't be mad (hopefully) at the Wings brass, he knew he wasn't playing well enough to keep the Wings rolling in first place, sure it may of had to do with very limited starts, but that is just how it worked out and you cannot change it. I hope he clears waivers and starts every game in GRR and becomes "ready" to be our third string and be called upon when and if needed.

2012 NHL Trade Deadline Thread - February 27th, 3:00 PM ET
LeftWinger replied to NeverForgetMac25's topic in General
I still believe that with the way the team has been playing, our goalie issues are over, our defense is fine, all we need is someone to turn our power play around. Teemu Selanne. If Holland can get Selanne for a cheap price (if he is available) that would more than turn our power play around and in turn, turn our road record around. But if nothing is available at the right price, Holland will probably stay put and address whatever issues in the off season. -
Sharks May overcome your streak. Otherwise it would be a great game.

I think the OP actually meant, when he said Sharks may overcome your streak, that The Sharks may Come Over and enjoy your streak... That's the only sense I can make out of it... -

Thank you... I guess to sum up my opinion, if a player doesn't have a desire to play in Detroit, then he is not Detroit material and would probably be worthless in our lineup... I don't care how "great" the player is, if he doesn't think that he would have a greater shot at winning a Cup in Detroit than he would in LA then I feel sorry for the guy...and he will be just another perennial all-star that has never won a Cup. That makes for a great feel-good story come playoff time, but when that player's team is eventually eliminated, that is where the story ends...again. Not saying Detroit is the only place to go to win a Cup, but the past cannot be denied and if Detroit is not on every players top 5 list of places they'd want to play, then something is mentally wrong with that player...hell even Forsberg considered it but felt he would be betraying his fans and for that I actually give him credit. I would hate to see any of our "dynasty" players play for the Avs... -
This is good that Migity-Mac© is playing so well, this makes it so Holland can focus on a sniper come July and not a back-up goaler. Now all they need to do is acquire someone at the deadline to right that which is wrong with the Power Play...
-
Jimmy needs to get back in game shape though. I think if he is 100% he should play against the Hawks and then again against Vancouver to get himself a lot of shots and get back into shape. They can play goalie 1a and 1b the rest of the way, but lets not sit Jimmy just for the sake of sitting him, he may come up rusty in the payoffs then...
-
Not that Detroit should be on everyone's list, it obviously would be wrong to think that, but what the heck is LA doing on his list? Does he have a women in LA or does he want to enjoy the So.Cal nightlife? Hey he could always hook up with Tara Reid...

2012 NHL Trade Deadline Thread - February 27th, 3:00 PM ET

Yeah, by 1% and last season's poll had Detroit at #1. It is only obvious that if 15% of the players would want to play for Chicago, that their head coach would be #1 as well. OF course last season Bylsma was #1 with Detroit being #1... ...besides, that whole come to Detroit because it's Detroit has died down since the Cap era began. More parity in the league has led to more successful teams. But one thing cannot be denied, no matter who "wants" to come play here, the ones that do rarely ever leave and it hasn't stopped the Big Red Machine from being the most successful NHL franchise in the last 20+ years! Which is huge considering that the "CAP" and "PARITY" was supposed to bring Detroit Monster down to its knees... ...epic fail by Bettman. Maybe he will try again this summer... -
Who Could be Dealt at the Deadline?
LeftWinger replied to Bring Back The Bruise Bros's topic in General
I think Commodore has done well in his appearances. He definitely hasn't made any glaring mistakes, unlike Kindl. Smith will be up after the deadline (if he survives the deadline and is still a Red Wing) to get some playing time. Granted he is not the veteran depth you are referring to or what Holland wanted, but other teams always seem to try to high-ball Holland when it comes to trades, so he may not be willing to part with what other teams are asking. It was said that Holland tried for Gill and Kubina, but was shot down. Holland will not overpay for a depth player. He will pay market value or maybe even outbid someone, for an impact player, lets say a Bobby Ryan, but he is not gonna give up 2 draft picks for Kubina, and definitely not 2 players and a pick for Hal Gill....I believe Nashville overpaid for Gill, but if it works out for them, then in the end, it won't matter. Unless Gill moves elsewhere and then they are out Geoffrion for a rental... -

agreed! Do you think if Holland was able to acquire Selanne that it would be considered a blockbuster? I think Perry, Ryan, Iginla, Nash all would be blockbusters, but Selanne should only cost a prospect or two. I could be wrong though... -
Who Could be Dealt at the Deadline?
LeftWinger replied to Bring Back The Bruise Bros's topic in General
Well, Holland won't be getting any of them until July if at all. He will not trade his team away now for bargaining rights later. This current team just needs a sniper who can shore up the power play. That is the only issue this team has, and once the power play gets better, the roads wins will come. So if Holland gets anyone, it will be a sniper that will be a UFA in July, a rental. I think Selanne would fit that part perfectly, but it still remains to be seen if he is even going to be traded at the dealine... -

LeftWinger replied to NeverForgetMac25's topic in General
I agree and see your concern. I think if Holland is to land one or both Parise and Suter he is gonna have to offer a ton of money and a long contract. But I surely hope he does and doesn't have that "We're Detroit" attitude, because it hasn't been working with the UFA's. Of course a Stanley Cup victory would make it a bit easier to sign them, and maybe even at a bit of a discount. Example being, Brad Stuart and Marion Hossa, both of which were UFA's after Detroit's 2008 win, and both of which took discounts to come/stay here. But ya, offer both $8M for at least 5 years apiece and if someone else gives them more money, so be it. At least Holland wouldn't be low-balling them... -
I don't know about sitting a healthy Howard for MacDonald, but ya, I do believe we will no backup goalie issues come next season....Howard/MacDonald....set. Everytime Joey wins I can here him saying... "I'm the migity migity migity migity migity migity Mac!" edit: Sorry, showing my age there. No Kriss Kross fans left around eh?
-
Jealous fans will be jealous.... BTW, Detroit was THE TEAM that blocked them from winning in 97, not one of. They're mad because they steam-rolled everyone and was supposed to tear Detroit apart in the Finals...poor Lindros, he probably still has nightmares with Konstantinov haunting him!
-
...so the Sharks had hoped that we'd still be on the streak when they got here, eh? Time to shove 23 down the throats of the weak!

Without sounding like a huge homer or just gloating about my team, but even if Detroit were to be termed "America's Team" I really don't think you can limit them to just being "America's" team. With the huge influx of Swede's and Russian's this team has had, and quite arguably the best Swede(s) and Russian(s) to ever play in the NHL, it's not that far fetched of an argument to call the Red Wings the "World's Team" considering the amount of fans this team has worldwide... ...that being said, I cannot tell any of the fans who have adopted this team as their own, how lucky and fortunate I have been to be born and grow up and age (gracefully (sometimes)) just outside the City of Detroit and have the birth-rite of being a Detroit Red Wings fan through and through. We are moving to West Michigan over the summer to live the second 40 years of my life in peace and tranquility, but you better believe, when you are born into the Red & White, it will NEVER leave you. I am glad there are fans around the world who call this team their own, but its sad that those fans (out of their power of course) can never feel the way that I have felt living and dying with this team. I was born in 1970 and my first reallection of them was in 1979, and it's been Heaven ever since. Even in the 80's and early 90's, it was so exciting to know there was a Wings game on TV that night. I can remember in the early 90's when I was first starting my career (yes I am still working in the same place today) when there was a Wings game on PASS, I would stop at KFC on the way home, buy a 20 piece Hot Wing (which was only $5.95 at the time) and get home and in time for the pre-game (I worked 10am-6pm) and enjoyed my Hot Wings with the Wings on TV. AHhh, the good old days! I am proud to call this area my home, this team MY team and am proud to share MY team with the rest of the world, together, as The World's Team... Go Wings! 82-0 or 0-82, Stanley Cup or missed playoffs, my blood runs Red & White!

Detroit native Alice Cooper a big hockey fan
LeftWinger replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
I am sure glad he didn't move to Colorado or Missouri. He is one of the ones where I wondered why, if he grew up a Wings fan, then did he lose his allegiance? I understand supporting your local team by going to games, but you can't switch bloodlines! My in-laws used to live in Sunrise and when the Panthers moved there from Miami, they got season tickets and supported their team, but when it came down to it, they were still and are still (in Las Vegas now) huge Wings fans. Also the likes of Dave Coulier, Kristen Bell, Jeff Daniels to name a few, they would never change their bloodline and become a fan of Anaheim or LA. I am glad Vincent is still a huge hockey fan, Lord knows they need them in the desert, but for at least 2 games a year, he should be wearing Red & White. -
Not that I am a UofM fan, but this was pretty awesome when it happened...
