    Rick Nash?

I agree, like I said if Holland acquired Nash, then it pretty much eliminates us from the Suter sweeps unless Lids retires for sure AND Stuart leaves as a UFA. Also we can forget about Parise in the off season...

    Rick Nash?

Ya, but I will still hate it...especially if Hudler was left here. If losing Filppula and Hudler & Prospect for Nash was an option, I guess I could live with it! Like I have a choice! It's not like Columbus doesn't like Filppula, they wanted him in 08' when they were offering Fedorov back to us... Make the deal, then trade Emmerton or another prospect for Moen, then acquire Nabokov. We keep forgetting (or at least I do) that Cleary's NTC is now exempt and can be moved as well. He would make a nice "A" in Columbus I do think, but then again, his chemistry with Helm is nice right now too...

    Rick Nash?

Again, if it involves trading Filppula, then I am not happy about it. I would offer them Hudler for sure and a number of prospects and picks, but not Filppula and not Smith.

    Rick Nash?

Rick Nash would be great, but no to Filppula or Smith going to Columbus. Filppula is too valuable to this team, and with the chance that BOTH Lidstrom and Stuart will be gone next year, this team needs Smith to come in and be that solid #4-5 defenseman. He is signed thru 2018 for a hit of $7.8M per season. That would take us out of the Parise sweepstakes and it have to have Lidstrom retire for sure if we have any hopes of getting Suter...

Vancouver Sun article on why no one hates the Wings

This isnt about fans hating the Wings, it says "players" dont hate the Wings. Cprice, you are classic...please enlighten us on the players that you know for a fact hate the Wings and provide us with the players statements that prove it. We already know you are jealous and that is why you hate. I personally only dislikes teams because of their idiot fans who think they know stuff, but they really dont....ie Blues.

    Future retired numbers

Yes, but #13 & #40 will more than likely play their entire career's here. That is the major difference. I am not saying they will be up there but that would be their only chance. Numbers I would LOVE to see up there withing the next 5 years: #5 - #91 - #30 - #96(just to spite Bowman!) However, the numbers that will probably be the ones going up: #5. If Osgood get HOF, then maybe his will go up.

    When Eaves comes back...

So, if there is no roster limit after the deadline here is a roster I would LOVE to see after the deadline and with Eaves back in the mix... Bertuzzi Datsyuk Franzen Filppula Zetterberg Morrow Moen Helm Cleary Miller Abdelkader Eaves/Mursak/Conner/Holmstrom Lidstrom White Stuart Kronwall Commodore Ericsson Kindl/Smith Howard Nabokov Obviously I am trading Hudler/Emmerton/Prospects/Picks to get Morrow/Moen/Nabokov. I know Hudler is playing well right now, but for me, that just ups his trade value and we need a valuable asset to acquire Morrow. I am not saying that Dallas would accept Hudler in exchange, but this is just what I would like to see happen. Obviously this team to be a bigger tougher team in order to get past the Sharks and Canucks this playoff season, so that is why I am sending Hudler away for Morrow and acquiring Moen and also shoring up the goalie spot with Nabokov because I would not be comfortable with Conklin backing up Howard in the playoffs. I know the Hudler slappies are gonna neg me for this, but that is ok and justified, I personally would just rather see Morrow in the top 6 than Hudler. If we could get Morrow without losing Hudler, then all the better, but I think Hudler is not as good in the bottom 6 as he is on the second line and he would be wasted in that spot. How about this: Bert -Dats- Franz Fil - Zett - Huds Morrow - Helm - Cleary Miller - Abdelkader - Moen Mursak Holmstrom Eaves Conner That would assume that we could get Morrow AND Moen for just prospects. Of course Nabokov can be had with picks or maybe even a package including Conklin...

    Toughening Up?

Exactly...I would like to know who the other Heavy Winger is...Babcock said another heavy winger, but I look up and down the roster and see no heavy winger, so could he be talking about Franzen? If so, then if he wants another heavy winger like Franzen, I pass. If he said he wants another scorer, then I would take another Franzen, but not if that other Franzen is going to be another heavy winger, because from what I have watched, we don't have one already here. I can do without another heavy winger if that heavy winger is of the Hudler/Franzen/Cleary type...

How Would You Fix the All Star Game?

I said the same thing a little further up the page. They choose the coaches by who is ahead at the time, so why not choose the GM the same way and let him do the "draft." You take the fans out of the equation by letting the 30 GM's choose the players and then the leading GM from each conference picks the teams. MAYBE, MAYBE if you want the fans to be involved somehow, they can choose the Captains and Alternates for the team, but even then we would see players there that don't really belong. As for skills comp. I remember back in the mid 90's or so the NHL had each team do a skills comp. against each other's teammates to determine the fastest skater, hardest shot, etc... on that team, but for the life of me I don't know how they chose who went to the Skills Comp. at the All-Star Weekend. The only thing that I remember was the Fedorov had both the hardest shot and was fastest on the team one year. Again, I am not recalling how they chose who went because I know there wasn't 30 players doing each comp. As for making the weekend more exciting, eliminate the skills comp. I am all for having a mini-Olympic type series of games over the weekend, with maybe 1 USA team, 1 Canadian team and 2 European teams all doing a GLI type format with 2 games both days. That would even make the players play with a little more intensity, but then again, you really don't want to get anyone hurt...

Who Could be Dealt at the Deadline?

Oh, ok cool! I too hope he can be had for about $7M. I guess I didn't think about HOW they will make payroll, I just looked at the amount they had available. I hope you are right and I hope Holland makes a run at him, I am all aboard for it!

    Toughening Up?

Well, comsidering the article says "ANOTHER HEAVY WINGER" I guess that means someone like Franzen or Bertuzzi, since Babcock seems to think we already have a heavy winger and he would like ANOTHER one...if that is the case, we will be seeing more of the same type of player... ...I would be excited if he would have left out the "another." I hope he feels that Moen and Morrow are heavy wingers, because I am all for that, but I am not all for another Franzen or Hudler... Ya, Morrow and Fistric would be great. But, lets stop saying the "Drake" factor. He wasn't really that big of help in winning, but he did add grit and toughness as would Morrow, but it seems that most folks around here feel that if it weren't for Drake, we wouldn't have won. Who would go back to Dallas in your trade scenario? A d-man obviously, but who and who else? Just curious...

Who Could be Dealt at the Deadline?

I too would love Parise here, but you do know that the Devils are gonna have a projected $26M in Cap Space this off season? That's $2M more than the Red Wings. Not that they still won't trade him, but they certainly can afford him unless he wants the top dollar a player can make, in that case they could still afford him, but I don't know if Holland is gonna offer him that much, that would set a precidence on our team of paying top dollar, and with Datsyuk due up pretty soon, he will command and get more than Parise... I hope Parise would accept a long term, lower salary deal, but I am not so sure... ...besides, if Holland has any hope of signing Suter, that is gonna cost at least $7.5M to start. It's gonna be fun to see what happens, but I hope Holland is a player in some shape and form! (and not just resigning our UFA's)

    Dreger's mailbag

To me, it would be great to have Moen and Morrow the deadline, then get Suter and Parise over the summer. Sure it causes a log jam at forward, but I too believe Homer and Bert will retire. Bert may go UFA, but I think Homer is done. He is 39. God Bless him, but he, like Draper and Osgood last year and Maltby the year before needs to hang em up and make room for the "NEW" Red Wings era...

FINALLY someone who understands the GWG stat! Thank you! Maybe they will listen to you instead of me repeating myself over and over! Hey everyone Datsyuk and Kronwall BOTH have 4 GWG's! Does that mean they are both as good as each other? Holmstrom and Miller each have 2, are they half as good as Datsyuk? Is Franzen better than Datsyuk? I was just wondering why he was comparing the two and saying no thanks to Morrow ( I said toMorrow....hee hee) Anyhow, he would still say no thanks even with BOTH of them on our team then I guess... This team would be much better if Morrow were on it. He wasn't chosen to be the Captain of Team Canada because he has no heart. This guy is the prototypical NHL player. I say go for it!

Suter not signing before Feb 27 deadline

Yes, but considering what Wisniewski got last year, Suter is worth WAAAYYYY more than $6.5 on the market. I can see him easily topping what Weber is making this season if he tests the open market. I hear one of the items in the CBA issue is the "Holland Rules" of long term contracts to keep the Cap hit down. The NHL hates the fact that teams can sign multiple super-stars to "life-time" deals all with keeping the cap-hit within reason...So I believe that wherever he goes it'll be for a huge salary and a huge cap-hit....

How Would You Fix the All Star Game?

Interesting idea, but what happens next year when the ASG is in Columbus? The way the jackets are playing now, the All Star's will wind up winning 27-1.... I do recall back in the day, they used to have the defending Stanley Cup Champ playing a team of All Stars for this game. With free agency these days, I don't think you could do that because all the same players wouldn't be there. I wouldn't mind seeing the team that is 1st overall in the NHL be the team playing a team of NHL All Stars during this game. I still think they would probably lose though...that is the thing about all star games in any sport, it's hard to make them interesting or exciting outside of just seeing a bunch of great players skate around on the ice. I think the best thing is to take the fans out of the selection process. Change the fantasy draft to the GM of the two leading teams in each conference pick the teams. Even if the fans don't have a say, I am sure they won't be disappointed in the resulting players that wind up being selected...and the players who are actually having an "All Star" season would be the ones who actually get recognized...

No way we get Hossa, ever......oh wait..... Never say never, but the odds are low, I agree. besides, I wouldn't trade Franzen for Morrow, who ever suggested that is nuts. Franzen for Ryan or Perry? Yes, but Morrow should only cost some prospects and MAYBE a roster player, possibly named Hudler or Emmerton.
  20. LeftWinger

Who Could be Dealt at the Deadline?

It's not that we want to, but there are players that may very well be available that are better than and more consistent than Franzen. Ryan, Perry to name a couple. IF you are to acquire someone like that, Franzen will have to be involved since you cannot trade Hudler for anyone of that stature. If they go somewhere else, then they still have Franzen and his playoff performances. But if I had to choose between Franzen and Bobby Ryan or Corey Perry? Franzen is gone yesterday...

Problem is, and I do agree with you, but they are playing absolutely abysmal on the road. If it wasn't for a 17 game win streak at home where would they be in the standings? They most certainly wouldn't be #1 overall. I am glad that they are nearly unbeatable at home, but sooner or later they are going to have to win on the road, especially if they want a Cup. I am not saying multiple changes would do the trick, but a couple of changes to wake up our team on the road. I have no idea what Holland will do, we can all wish in one hand and you know what in the other for the players we like, but Holland is going to do what is best, or what he feels is the best for this team. He says he wants a top 6 guy, if a deal presents itself then he'll pop at it, if the other teams want to rape him (which most teams do) then he will go into the playoffs status quo and try to make his changes in July. Morrow and Moen would most definitely change the makeup of this team to a bit more snarly. I think Morrow is a top 6 forward and would fit nicely in our top 6 and Moen would make our bottom six even that much more tougher to play against. He could slide in with Helm and Cleary moving Miller back to the 4th line, where he would make Abdelkader better. I dunno, sure we are in a great spot right now, but we are gonna need to be able to get past St. Louis/San Jose and Chicago on the road eventually, possibly in the playoffs and right now, as has been most of the season, they just can't do it. But if the deals are just too rich for Holland, I am ready for them to give it their best shot with who they have...

Yes, you are correct! What have we all been thinking?!?!? Anyway, we all know he has a NTC, but I think that if he had a short list of teams he would accept a trade to, Detroit more than likely would be on it...but thanks for yelling at us about it!

Datsyuk No 1 Pick for All Star

I believe that if the Wings can right their road woes, Datsyuk is gonna fly past Malkin for the scoring lead and solidify his first Hart Trophy. Although this is just the ASG, when the voters vote for the Hart, this will be in the back of thier minds that he went first overall in a fantasy draft amongst the elite of elite players in the NHL...We are witnessing the birth of not just a Detroit superstar but an NHL superstar that FINALLY gets his just deserts...

    Stars' Brenden Morrow available?

no it doesn't! Actually looks great! But I got a sneaking feeling that Lidstrom will be back again next season, but that should not deter Holland from offering the moon to Suter to make sure he is a Red Wing for at least the next 5-6 seasons. I notice there is no Cleary in your lineup, are you trading him for Morrow? Not that it is a bad idea, just curious... Me personally, I would rather see Morrow on line #2 and move Hudler or let him go UFA, but if I lost Cleary to obtain Morrow, I am not complaining...

Who Could be Dealt at the Deadline?

not that I think these guys would be "on their way out" but here is a list of guys I think could be shopped around for the right deal: Hudler Cleary Emmerton Mursak Filppula (I would hate this) and Franzen....yes, Franzen but ONLY if it was to acquire that legit top line super sniper, if not, then I keep Franzen because his value to this team is nearly irreplaceable, but for the right deal... I agree with your take on Stuart, but in all honesty, if he is for sure not coming back then I would ride him through the playoffs, then come to a sign and trade deal with a west coast team that absolutely wants him and does not want to get into a bidding war for him come July 1st. I just think he is too valuable to this team to deal him before the playoffs... after that, you can pick a number of prospects that could go, but there are few I would hate to see go, Smith and Sheahan being two. I like what Nyquist brings and there are a few other small skilled forwards that excite me too! It would be a tough call, but to get Morrow here and maybe Moen as well, it's a call that would be worth taking....in my opinion.
