...Here we ago with GWG's.... Do we have to explain it to you again?
-
None of which Holland will even call...
-
Just one last thing on GWG's. Last season Dan Cleary led the team with 8 GWG's and was only 3 behind the NHL leader with 11 for the season. Does that make Cleary one of the most 'clutch' players in the league? No. The GWG stat, the way it is tallied by the NHL right now is about as useless as the +/- stat. If not, more useless...

Ok, he was "performing" then last year too when he scored 28 Goals to lead the team and 55 points to end up 4th on the team, right? Problem is, on 2/2/11 he scored 5 goals against Ottawa to give him a total of 26 on the season, that means for the next 2+ months he only had 2 goals, one on 3/5/11 vs. PHX and one on 4/3/11 vs. MIN. That is far from performing and leading the team. He does the same thing year in and year out. He is very lazy most nights, puts in a batch of goals for a stretch, then disappears again. I'd rather he score a goal every other game than a bundle before the trade deadline then stink up the ice the rest of the season. Again, if Perry is presented to us and Franzen needs to part of the deal, I say do it!

...again, someone misinterprets the GWG stat by actually thinking the game was tied and he scored to untie it to win us the game. The GWG is nothing but the goal that you won by. Let's say the Wings were up 6-0 and Franzen scored the 7th goal. The Hawks come roaring back and score 6 goals only to fall short of the comeback, viola, that 7th goal is still considered the GWG, but it was hardly a "clutch" goal. Franzen is no more clutch than a break pedal. Most if not ALL of his 8 GWG's are of that exact variety, he scores when the Wings are already winning and the other team loses by one goal or more and Franzen's goal which was scored two periods ago, just happens to get the stat of GWG. The NHL should change the way the stat is defined. A GWG should only be a goal that a player scores to untie the game and end the end wins the game for you, not the way it is awarded now. Again, if you or anyone can show me Franzen 8 ACTUAL GWG's that untie the game and win it for the Wings, then I will agree that he is the most clutch player in the league. But in all actuality he is not.

Well, the rest of your post was fine. I hate Hudler and Franzen equally, ya, his cap hit is pretty small, and again, I dislike him with a passion, so I never thought he was as clutch as Zetterberg. BUT the 8 GWG, doesn't always mean they were actual goals that untied the game for a win. In all honesty I wish that was the way they credited GWG's instead of the way they do now. Sorry, Franzen could score 100 and Hudler 200 and I will never like them...

Careful, neg bandits are out tonight, he may get some for saying bad things about our sniper....and be called a non-fan. Just a heads up, yellow spineless pencilneck's are out tonight! I give ya a +1 for not wearing homer glasses!
-
Half of them have not come when the game was tied. Of those 8 GWG's, most of them were goals he scored when the team went up 2 or 3 goals and the other team fell short of a comeback and by default his goal was the game winner. Show me 8 GWG's from him when the score was tied and I will take back everything I have said. edit: thought not.

Well, after watching that, I have to say this was blown out of proportion by someone here. He wasn't mocking Holland, he just said, hey, you are gonna have to go into places like Boston and if you don't have someone who is willing to drop em and defend your teammates, then you aren't gonna win. Boston, San Jose they are going to bounce you around again and again. I agree with Cherry. Wings lack that Avery type player, Lapointe, Drake, Rouse. They don't need a Probert.
-
you don't have to win them all, just be willing to go. Downey, Lilja, Drake, McCarty. Any one of who would drop the gloves at the first run at Datsyuk or Lidstrom. We don't have a regular player like that now. And when our star players are getting beat on in the regular season, it takes it's toll on their bodies and they are hurting in the playoffs. If a Aaron Downey was there to protect them in the regular season, they are that less hurting come playoffs.

Scoring...we have certain players that only score when the pressure is off, and when they do, they score in bunches to pad their stats, but fail to show up when really needed. The Wings are near the top of the league in goals for, but how many of those came in that stretch when they score 7 goals every game at home? Our sniper scores half his goals in November and them doesn't score a meaningful goal for three months. Change is needed and I hope change is coming. We need a scorer that can be relied upon to score when the chips are down...
-
totally agree. Franzen is by far not the only one that needs to show up more, but he IS our sniper, right? At least that is what we are being told...he is better than Hossa....from what I hear..
-
You forgot the most important one: "You don't like Hudler and Franzen? You are not a true Wings fan, why don't you go root for the Penguins?"
-
we needed him today and he wasn't there. Some sniper we have... He is worse than Hudler... half his goals have come when we were already winning...not very clutch. Sorry, I just expect more from our "Sniper." He is supposed to be up there with the rest of the NHL snipers, he needs to score when the team needs it, like tonight! Very disappointed in Franzen I am. And we are stuck with him and that God awful contract....like forever. You know he is horrible when it comes down to being clutch. He just floats around out there most nights and never shows up when needed....much like tonight.
-
agreed. But sure needed him to put a goal in tonight, not when we are winning 5-0 already.
-
Fact? Tell me one Stanley Cup they won without one? Sure they win in the regular season and give it a go in the playoffs, but where are the FACTS? I am not advocating an enforcer, just a tough guy who will fight when needed.
-
Well maybe our sniper will show up tomorrow...All hail Franzen the disappearer!
-
Oh! Ok, got it! But ya, my original post was a bit sarcastic anyhow, since he rarely shows up when we need him...
-
Well either way, Ryan or Perry, I would trade Franzen for them.
-
Huh? I do get what the chart is referring to... Where is cprice to tell us all how he should be suspended? Oh wait, that's only against the Blues.
-
Odd, Wings havent had a powerplay in the last 4 periods....hmmmmm.
-
Now would be a great time for our sniper to snipe away and score a couple...you hear me Franzen?
-
Awesome, pre-playoff photoshopping! Nice! +100 for you!
-
No, we should NOT re-sign him. Either trade him or let him explore his UFA options. He no doubt will want way too much than he deserves, or what I want to see Holland pay.
-
I would not want to part with Filppula, he has much more value to this team than Franzen. I wouldn't mind being able to keep Franzen and still getting Perry somehow, but we would still have to demote someone from the top 6 (Hudler) and that would upset the chemistry in the bottom 6. So if you could keep Franzen why not offer Hudler in return along with some top prospects. I still think acquiring Perry is gonna cost Franzen from the get go, but you may be right about them opting on higher level prospects. Which, as you covered, the Red Wings have plenty of...I just hope that Anaheim comes calling and Holland is willing to make that bold move next month. Like I stated before, this team is MUCH better with Perry on it than either Franzen or Hudler. Or if the option is Ryan, the same applies.
