Now it's a problem. Problem is, the players on this team are what they are. They have peaked in their career's (excluding Emmerton since he hasn't played enough.) Datsyuk, Zetterberg, they are 60-80 pt. players and that is all. Franzen has peaked as a player and will not get any better than what he has been in the past, and so has everyone else. Abdelkader is what he is, and Helm is just a younger Draper. Bertuzzi still hasn't been the same since the "incident" and Holmstrom is Holmstrom, they are both past their prime. I am beginning to believe we have seen the best of our "core" players in season's past and that is all we are gonna get. I don't see Filppula getting any better than what he has been, the same goes for Cleary. Kronwall hasn't been the same hitter virtually since the Havlat hit in the playoffs, well at least not as consistent of a hitter (he has had a couple of good ones.) Hudler, well....bleh. I am beginning to believe you guys about Miller and Eaves, they are basically the same player and they aren't gonna be too much more than 4th line grinders/penalty killers and that is that. I am not calling for heads to roll or saying our guys suck, they just are what they are and we have seen their best and it just seems like (including the last couple of season's) they aren't gonna get any better than that. Unfortunately, the teams around us ARE getting better. This is the flip side of being so good for so long, lower draft picks (as good as Holland has done with them) just don't compare to top 10 draft picks. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't trade the last 20 years for a team full of OVechkin's and Stamkos' but we as Wings fans have to come to the realization that this is all we are going to get, and it isn't gonna get much, if any, better. Do I think they will be fine throughout the rest of the season? Of course. I do think they will make the playoffs and possibly get to the 2nd or even 3rd round, but I do believe we have already seen the best of Zetterberg/Datsyuk/Franzen and Kronwall.

Analysis of the last play, IF Ian White hits Clowe instead of reaching for the puck, Clowe cannot get the pass back to #9, who in turn doesn't get the pass to Thornton for the empty netter. May not have won the game for Detroit, but would've prevented to 4th goal. Babcock better mix this team up a lot more, 1 is an incident, 2 is a habit, 3 is a problem and they just lost 3 in a row. Not calling for trades, just some lineup changes. Like I said, if White is more physical at the end, they don't get that 4th goal. I like White, but he just needed to be physical instead of playing the puck...

Yes but, no matter which way you view it, Detroit has a higher winning percentage than Pit. Which is what my point was in my first post...
-
at the time PIT only played 11 games and only had 7 wins...today they have 8 wins in 12 games, I do believe that is only 66% and where I took math, that is less than 71%. BTW when I posted that first one, they were only at 63% still less than 71%. All you have to do is look at NHL.com and click on standings to READ the records of each team and see that PIT does not have 9 wins, nor did they when I posted originally, so the question that comes up is where did you take Reading? PIT has 8 wins and 2 OT loses for 18 points.

I like our goalies, but that being said, I still kinda wish Holland could have gotten Nabokov out of the Isle instead of Conklin, but I am sure Snow was looking to rape Holland in said trade... edit: Of course, there is always next July 1st to nab Nabby. Unless he puts up super numbers and wins then he will command, and get, elite money. If he is mediocre and has a sub .500 record, maybe Detroit can get him for cheap...
-
Well, at least we know where some of his money went! I don't read Swedish too good, but did she write got nut in puss?
-
they have also lost 2 games...and have played 11 games. That means our winning percentage is better, plus we have given up less goals even with 10 in the last two games. It is Washington that is the best team in the league right now, they are flying on all cylinders...

I do believe two seasons ago the Wings started out 0-2 by losing two straight games in Sweden to St. Louis(?) and that season turned out okie dokie considering... I am a bit frustrated over the last two games too, but even I am not calling for heads or trades. I simply want to see Babcock find the right line combo's very soon and for EVERYONE to give their 110%. Fans play huge amount of dollars to come see the stars play and when it seems like the stars are disinterested in playing, the fans feel slighted a bit. For the user that said in 2008 we had Downey, isn't our powerplay our enforcer? Seriously though, I think more than that, we need THREE scoring lines instead of two. I think Abdelkader - Helm - Eaves should be the fourth line and have three legit scoring threats on the other three lines, if that means losing Miller/Hudler/Brunnstrom and or Emmerton, I am not sure, but I think that Babcock should try to assemble three scoring lines with snipers on all three...but with the lineup we have I do realize that is probably not possible, but I hope it can because I really like the guys on our roster (except one) and would hate to lose any of them (except one.) For now, keep experimenting until the right mix is found and if December comes and they still haven't found it, then maybe start to deal wheels in motion....

Yipee....that sure will be a MAJOR announcement.... I thought at least they decided on the realignment for next season, now that would be a MAJOR announcement....

No idea why you got negged here, but ya, looking back at that season, how many come from behind/last second victories did the Wings have as well? They played a lot of games where they shouldn't have won, but they did back then and these last two were games they shouldn't have won and didn't. I hope they get back to winning soon!
-
10 in 2...actually 10 in 3 games...these last two loses were a team effort, I didn't see all 10 goals, I am sure they weren't all bad ones...
-
I am going back to: Filppula - Datsyuk - Holmstrom Franzen - Zetterberg - Bertuzzi Cleary - Helm - Eaves Miller - Abdelkader - Emmerton (Brunnstrom Hudler) Nothing personal, but gotta mix it up Jiri...
-
not to be....Great name though, Clitsome...
-
time for a miracle?
-
LOL, I did give ya a +1 for the Hudler out of the top 6 comment though! Tonight, they just look(ed) uninspired....

I am not saying Commodore will save the team, honestly, they don't need to be saved, but just to get him in and change the look of the D, 10 goals in two games is a lot. And, no, those two aren't game breakers, I just didn't know who was scratched...
-
how come everytime I look up, Detroit is in the penalty box?
-
ok, when is Commodore gonna be ready? Who are the scratches tonight?
-
Something was put in the Detroit teams kool-aid I think....Lions go 5-0 then lose two in a row, Wings 5-0 and now not playing too well and may lose two in a row... I hope the Wings pick it up and soon...
-
Congrats Jimmy! I hope the baby doesn't have your nose though! Imagine her trying to give birth to that! OUCH! Seriously though, awesome! I remember my first child, I cried for an hour!

Jackets sign Wisniewski: 6-years $33-million ($5.5m/yr)
LeftWinger replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
Ya, too bad not many contenders will be too interested in a upper 30's Wiz....Nice choice Wiz, but thanks, because so far I like Ian White MUCH better... -
Ya, no.. ..We are talking about someone who HAS waiver exemption and one who DOESN'T have it. When the Wings lost Quincey, BOTH he AND Meech had NO waiver expemtions, so they BOTH would've had to pass through waivers to play in Grand Rapids. Nyquist HAS waiver exemption so he can come up and go down WITHOUT passing through waivers. With a FULL healthy lineup, Nyquist will be sent down 100% of the time, until he no longer has waiver exemptions.

I honestly don't think there is much to discuss for improving this team, they had an off night. Period. The first half of the first period looked like a nice prelude to this years Stanley Cup Final, but I think the two quick goals killed them and they were just scrambling from there. Their only goal came on a 5 on 3, and had yet another 5 on 3 to add to it, but to no avail. Vokoun played lights out (as he always did against Detroit when he was with Nashville) and that just added to the Wings frustrations. But hey, if they are gonna win 5 out of every 6 games, then I think we are in for a enjoyable season! I'll take it. It would've been nice to have the intensity of the first half of the first period all night long, but, meh, they'll get over it and who knows, maybe they'll win 5 more in a row! I didn't really see enough of Brunnstrom to evaluate him (too busy switching from MSU game (Go Sparty!)) did he looked bad or ok? I am excited to see Commodore come in and play soon (hopefully,) with the way Ericsson is muscling himself around, that duo could be very hard to play against! Anyhow, not too worried about the blowout, Washington had more to prove than the Wings, lets just turn this into a positive and take out Columbus with a heavy sword!

ESPN insider article re: Wing's deadline cap space
LeftWinger replied to unsaddleddonald's topic in General
So how do you plan on acquiring Parise and Carle? I see you are missing Holmstrom, Miller, Bertuzzi and Stuart and Conklin. So did NHL 11 allow this trade? Because no GM would take those guys in a trade.... -

Problem. Lots of cap room, no roster room and the players Holland is willing to deal, nobody wants.....
