For some reason, I cannot think of a player who they may shove down our throats who wouldn't bother me. At least not as much as Crosby does. We know if won't be anyone from the Red Wings, Malkin and Toews and that other scrawny Hawk are already past their "Face of the NHL" prime. I don't think Stampkos would be too bad to have as the "face." Too bad Taylor Hall and Nugent-Hopkins play outside of the States or one of those guys could be it, but Uncle Gary would never market a player who doesn't play in the USA. Seguin just doesn't have the whiney ****** appeal, plus he doesn't flop around like Crosby. Tavares plays for the Islnaders, nuff said... I guess we'd have to go with Stampkos, but I don't think I hate him, so I wouldn't mind him being the "Face." (oh and forget ANY European player, or player who has any toughness or snarl what-so-ever. Another reason why Stampkos or Seguin probably won't be the Face. They aren't fighters, but they don't mind getting hit or hitting back and actually fighting for the puck and getting bloody.)

You got a -2 and I got a -5 for the comments about this! I wonder if we got negged because of the subject matter or the fact that most sheeple are walking down that narrow hallway? Anyhow I gave you plus to try to bring you back up... I wish Crosby a happy and healthy life... I'd like to see him come back and try to play, but one more hit and its scrambled eggs... and all this talk about him going to the Hall? I understand that the "stats" he has is your guy's argument on him being there, that's fine, but if we are saying if Crosby doesn't play one more game and he still has "stats" that are good enough to get him in the Hall, then Osgood is a shoe-in and NONE of you who are arguing FOR Crosby to get there can say Osgood doesn't have the "stats" to get him in based on other goalies in the Hall... Thank you guys for putting an end to the Osgood/Hall of Fame argument...that means #30 will rise to the rafters as well (as it should be!)

I like(d) both the signings. Brunnstrom for obvious reasons and his "potential" is limitless. I also liked Modano coming here and if it weren't for some freak injury, he may have lived up to what we all expected of him. Let's just hope that Brunnstrom doesn't have the "Former Dallas Star now a Red Wing freak injury voodoo curse" on him as well.... (Well Brett Hull worked out ok...)
-
Well, I think you misread my post. I didn't ever suggest keeping Brunnstrom over Emmerton, I suggested keeping Brunnstrom and ditching Hudler, which would make the most sense from a business point of view. "Nothing personal Jenny... err, Jeri... err, Jiri, just business, we can't have someone making nearly $3M being a healthy scratch every night..."
-
Isn't Nolan already trying out for the Nucks?
-
how about we start with NOT putting Hudler on the first line? Here I thought I would be the one to mention Hudler first.... I hope that Brunnstrom comes in and makes Hudler even MORE expendable... On topic, this is a very exciting signing...for whatever it is he'll make, I am sure he will earn every penny of it... 20 pts for $500,000. Sure beats 37 pts. for $2.89M...
-
...if people only realized how true this statement really is.

Karma for all the diving he did/does when he barely gets tapped....now he knows what a real hit feels like! ...besides, he come back and play half the season and they will "give" him another trophy, the Masterson Trophy. Then they will fill the NHL airwaves full of talk about what heart and dedication he has, and how he is the only "true champion" for coming back from his injury. I can see Eddie Olczyk (and Carmen) wiping the jizz off his face already. I have no sympathy for him as a player (as a person I do hope he is ok to live a nice life,) this is what happens when you start believing the hype and think you are bigger than the game...the game stands up at the blueline and knocks you out...Eric Lindros part II... If he comes back, great, but if he is done, I won't lose any sleep over it. They'll trade us Joe Morrow for Jiri Hudler and Jakub Kindl.... (only in my dreams)
-
As much as I dislike hudler as a player, I can agree with everything you said! I hope he becomes a 70+ point scorer, I really do, but next year so if he re-signs here it will be cheap. If he gets 70 pts this year, he get $5M.

What is funny, I think, is the fact that this guy says Kronner is top 4 and Letang is top 2 in the league. Granted Kronwall may not be top 2, but as Letanf showed when Crosby went down, he is not a top 2 defenseman. On the subject, Hemsky would be nice here, but at the expense of Helm or Kronwall is just idiotic. Where can I apply for a job, because I can (and have) proposed silly trades like this for free, I would love to get paid to do it!

...and that, according to his thread title, Holmstrom sucks. My point is Holmstrom at 37 points is 100,000,000 times better than Hudler, at any point in his career.... Hudler will never be anywhere near the player Holmstrom was/is/will be.
-
You are so funny, first of all Holmstrom is 38 years old, and he is STILL out performing Hudler at 26. Same amount of points last year in the same amount of games, but Holmstrom's points are earned in a way that Hudler could NEVER understand NOR would he ever attempt. I'd take one Holmstrom over four Hudler's anytime and anyday. We aren't even going to mention Holmstrom's worth to this team over Hudler in the the playoffs... You are just taking your love for Hudler way too far now bud, just stop, please, stop.

Hi guys! (and girls) This is just an update to my post from a few years ago when I charted Detroit love affair with drafting Swedish players, here is a link to my orginal thread: (for those of you that may want to read) ...and now I will add the latest Swedish players to be drafted by Detroit. 2009 - Although the Wings have had tons of success with the Swedish players that have played here, they only drafted one this season Adam Almquist out of HV 71 Jonkoping Jr. (Swe-Jr.) and they waited until the very last round #210 overall... 2010 - This year they didn't wait very long to draft their Swedish player, they selected Calle Jarnkrok out of Brynas in the second round #51 overall. It's obvious they have high hopes for this young man considering they haven't selected a Swedish player this high since Nicklas Kronwall in 2000 (1st rd, #29 overall.) Again, though, they chose to go to Sweden only once this draft season... 2011 - This draft year was a very diverse one, scattered with players from all over the globe, and yes, not disappointing, they used their 5th round pick to select #146th overall, Mattias Backman out of Linkoping Jr. (Sweden-Jr.) Once again, this was the only Swedish player drafted by the Wings this year, but as their history shows, there will be more to come!

Did anyone else (who follows twitter) get the tweet last night from @NHLSourcesSay saying "Predators Ryan Suter receiving plenty of interest around the league, he's high on the Red Wings radar/will pursue if becomes available" ...sorry if this was covered already, but damn this makes me very excited!
-
agreed, but there is a chance with the re-alignment that we won't be division rivals after this season, we won't even be conference rivals...
-
Of course Washington and Detroit come to mind....what Russian wouldn't want to play with Ovechkin or Datsyuk? Give him a shot with Datsyuk for $1.5-$2M, he can't perform any worse than Hudler, could he?
-
He could still wear it in the pre-season and maybe of Commodore USA wants to do some kind of promotion's here and there, he could wear it pre-game (kinda like they use the pinks sticks for warm-ups.)
-
1) Who is your favorite Detroit Red Wing player overall to wear the Red Wings Logo? Sergei Fedorov 2) Who was your favorite Detroit Red Wing player that joined the red wings? (Non drafted by Wings, could be threw Trade / FA / Waiver etc...) Dino Ciccarelli 3) Which current player would you dream of them joining the Wings? Shea Weber 4) Which are the players that really "hurt / bugged" you when they left the Red Wings to join another team? Sergei Fedorov (both times he left) 5) Is there a player that you never wanted him on the team ... but eventually joined the team? Hudler's 2nd go round.

Could've, Should've, Would've...I understand wanting to debate this, and I hope its not to bring Osgood down any, but honestly you could say, IF to anything. I for one, believe Osgood should go to the HOF AND get his number retired by the Wings, but I do agree, if it weren't for Hasek, the Wings (even with all their HOF's) would not have beaten Colorado in 2002. Which just proves that "your gramma" could not have won playing behind the Wings, because even with the HOF's playing that year, they still needed Hasek to stand on his chin. Thus proving when Osgood won, it wasn't only because of the players in front of him, he won because of his abilities as well, and if it weren't for a MVP 3 on 5 shift by Zetterberg in 2008, Osgood would've hands down been the Conn Smythe winner. He still should've in my opinion, he came in and won like 9 games in a row or something like that. I know this is not a Osgood HOF debate, sorry...
-
Yes....Yes it is... (and there aint no sneaking Hudler in, until he is no longer a Red Wing, I will continue to chant the words "TRADE HUDLER")
-
Cogliano signs with.Ducks, three yrs at $2.1, $2.3 & $2.6M....and we have Hudler at $2.8. Thank God its his last year!
-
at a -2 for saying Osgood/Draper should retire and for Holland to spend money... Oh boo hoo, someone says my little Ozzie should retire... Do you think he should play until he is 70? He is too injured, do you want a back-up that'll win for you in the playoffs? I never said they suck, but just that its over, they should retire and Holland should spend the money elsewhere, but again, some folks just think the "old Wings" should stay here and never retire and if you say something different, they'll neg you. I hope this conference is to announce his retirement. The Wings need to acquire Nabokov to really push Jimmy to the next level, Osgood cannot do that.
-
I sure hope it is retirement....Does Holland really think Osgood is the best back up option? I guess Nabokov isn't worth Hudler to him....or is it the Isle's dont want Hudler? edit: I am a huge history buff, but damn I am growing tired of nostalgia on this team...Draper, Osgood, it's time to go, hang them up, retire! SPEND THE MONEY HOLLAND! TRADE HUDLER!

Still some noise about Wings picking up a top 4 Dman
LeftWinger replied to Din758's topic in General
Nah, could've had Vokoun for $1.5M, he just didn't want to be #2 behind Howard, he wants to start, so he went to Washington... I'd take Semin for sure, and I would sacrifice a prospect and a roster player... -
I look at your top six and I just see that we desparately need a legit top six sniper... To me (I know you love Huds) but Hudler or Bertuzzi and to an extent Holmstrom are no longer top 6... I still like the idea of putting Filppula with Datsyuk, but that is where they need that top sniper, on that line. I realize we are probably stuck with Hudler, but I would love to see a sniper along the lines of a Hossa type, but is he out there? Filppula - Datsyuk - Sniper Cleary - Zetterberg - Franzen Bertuzzi - Helm - Eaves Miller - Helm - Holmstrom Mursak/Emmerton I just don't know who to put in at Sniper position...gamble on Drury? Not really a sniper...Put Hudler there? He's been put with Datsyuk before and has failed as a 1st line winger on more than one occasion... I'd LOVE to get Parise somehow, but I just assume to wait to win the lottery instead...
