    I'm still hoping for Koekkoek.

    2021 Off-Season (Too Soon?)

I'm not disappointed, I guess I just don't know enough about Leddy. If he's a legit top 4 D in the NHL, then I'm excited about it. I read somewhere that Panik was going to possibly bought out if not selected by Seattle. So 2 years retained salary is better than 4 years buyout. If this is true, Super Yzerman does it again. I like moves and signings, etc... so this is nice to see!

    2021 Off-Season (Too Soon?)

I admit, this one confuses me. Why such a high draft pick for a 30 year old that won't be here at most one season? I thought we were the ones getting assets to acquire salaries? Plus 50% retained salary for 2 more seasons? I don't see the win in this trade.

Seattle Expansion Draft: Who you pick?

I swear, if Yzerman leaves Stecher unprotected it will be the first time I will be disappointed in Steve. Stecher is better than Cholowski and Lindstrom together.

Hyman is UFA, Bert and Vrana are RFA. That's a whole different level of contracts.

Edmonton. That's Holland's checklist. So! Welcome to the pre-expansion draft protection list submission trade deadline! Let's get this ball (puck) rolling!!!

I don't subscribe to The Athletic, but apparently Craig Custance is saying that Brock Boeser is indeed in play for a trade. Let's revisit that Bertuzzi and the 23rd for the 9th!

    2021 Buyout Thread

Keep track of the buyouts here. Usually this is not a big deal, but with the flat cap still in place there may be a lot more than we're used to. ...so, does Yzerman use 1, 2 or none? I know we're not strapped for Cap, but if he wants to provide a roster spot or 2, I'm saying he buys out Nielsen.

    2021 Off-Season (Too Soon?)

The only thing I do not agree with is giving Washington back their 1st. "Helping" them out should and would cost a lot less. Yzerman got Staal and a 2nd in exchange for nothing basically in order to "help" out the Rangers. Now, I am not saying Samsonov is equal to Marc Staal, but I'm betting it would cost no more than a 2nd going back. Maybe just a 3rd. This would be PRE-Expansion draft. I'd take Johnson and Foote for a 5th in return. This would be a total "help." Even though they are poised to circumvent the cap again with Hedman going on LTIR after surgery, I don't think they can keep him there all year and expect to be contenders again. They need cap relief, and this helps them tremendously, plus they will probably lose Palat or Killorn to Seattle considering they may choose to protect young players like Raddysh or Joseph instead. Pre-expansion. Toronto...oh Toronto, what are you going to give us? You want Bertuzzi, you also want cap relief so you can re-sign Filigno and persue Suter (maybe) and possibly attempt a deal for Jones. It'll start with Nylander and a 1st. You wanna trade us Dermott so you don't lose him? Fine, Nylander, Dermott and Liljegrin. We'll even toss in a draft pick for ya! Pre-expansion. This would allow us to protect Hronek, Stecher and Dermott on the back end and Nylander will take Bert's protection up front. With Dermott, I really couldn't care less if we lost BOTH Cholowski and Lindstrom (which we cannot, but it wouldn't matter.) I still like the Vancouver idea (rumor or suggestion, it doesn't matter) I would love to get another top 10 pick. Dermott - Hronek Koekkoek - Seider Dekeyser - Stecher ??? (re-sign Staal?) Yes, I'd still like to see KoekKoek get signed here. I know Cholo and Lindstrom are out of waiver exemptions, so maybe use them as a throw in for a trade above, or #7 D. Trade the other to Holland. so let's sum it up! ( I like doing this!) to DET : Ilya Samsonov (RFA rights) to WSH : 2021 2nd round pick to DET : Tyler Johnson, Cal Foote to TPA : 2021 4th round pick to DET : William Nylander, Travis Dermott, Timothy Liljegrin to TOR : Tyler Bertuzzi, 6th round, Gus Lindstrom (why not!) sign UFA's Slater KoekKoek and Zach Hyman. Re-sign Bobby Ryan and Luke Glendening.

    2021 Off-Season (Too Soon?)

I'd sign Suter as soon as possible. Then Koekkoek. Suter-Seider Koekkoek-Hronek Cholowski-Stecher Looks pretty good for letting the others develop. I'm not even sure Cholowski should be there, he hasn't shown he's earned a starting spot. I'm not sure if I'd slot Dekeyser in there either, but being the 6th, you can experiment with it a bit. Suter probably won't come here, I'm sure he'll have some contenders calling him. He went to Minnesota to win, Minnesota failed him, now his days are numbered, I imagine he'd take a small contract to win a Cup within 2-3 years. Dang where's @centcougar when he's needed?

so when are the protected list required to be submitted? I am getting antsy and want this off-season to officially kick off!

    2021 Off-Season (Too Soon?)

I honestly think Suter would help out here. Sure, he wouldn't be around to see the end of the rebuild, but again, much like Bobby Ryan, he could be had for cheap now and then if we need to trade him at the TDL so be it, if not, and he stays a couple of years, like you said, he would be a great mentor for Sieder. 1 or 2 years x $1.5M sounds nice!

    2021 Draft

So, rumors about Yzerman possible moving the 23rd to Vancouver for Eriksson contract and the #9OA. Most definitely expect Wallstedt at 6 if that happens.

Edmonton fans blowing a gasket. Welcome to Ken Holland-land Edmonton! Re: Bertuzzi To VAN : Bertuzzi, Zadina To DET : Quinn Hughes, 2nd rounder. Eriksson salary dump. let's do this!

    2021 Off-Season (Too Soon?)

apart from Bertuzzi having some value and having a couple teams calling about him, and also being about 2 years too old (27 in Feb) for the rebuild, I think Yzerman has him ready to be dealt because he will probably go to arbitration again, get a 1 year contract and become a UFA after the season. Yzerman wants to deal him for returns in case he walks UFA next summer. I am sure Bertuzzi would like to stay but also he is probably very intrigued about teams being interested in him. Trade him. to TOR : Tyler Bertruzzi, 2021 5th, much needed cap relief if they want to better their team. to DET : Mitch Marner, Timoty Liljegrin, 2022 1st. - or - to VAN : Tyler Bertuzzi, Dennis Cholowski (or Lindstrom) to DET : Brock Boeser, Vasili Podkolzen, 2022 1st ... I am still sticking with these: to TPA : 2021 3rd round draft pick to DET : Andrej Palat, Alex Killorn, Hugo Alnefelt ( I guess if they wanted to replace one of those with Johnson that'd be fine. Besides Alnefelt They're all TDL bait.) I'd have to change up the Pit trade though since I don't want to lose both 3rd rounders: to PIT : 2021 4th round draft pick, rights to Evgeny Svechnikov (or maybe a D prospect) to DET : Markus Pettersson all this is POST expansion draft.

Friedman is now reporting Yzerman indeed taking calls on Bertuzzi. Believes Toronto and Vancouver are front runners

I'm betting Nielsen and Dekeyser. Are we only alloted 2? Is there another window? I thought it had something to do with arbitration filings later...

Sign and trade Hyman to us. I'd like to guarantee he stays here.

    2021 Off-Season (Too Soon?)

...depends on what's coming back? This IS Steve Yzerman we're talking about. Toronto are looking for players that will get them past the 1st round and beyond. They NEED intangibles. What would you do if they offered: 1st, Liljegren, sign and trade Andersson? Maybe more? They need to shed salary because Bertuzzi isn't the only one they're targeting. They'll a UFA or two anyway.
