    Draft Talk

Well, Ferraro seems to be dropping of the radar, so far that drop down hasn't worked out...

    This year's prospects

I can see Joakim Andersson being part of a trade to find either that top 4 d-man or the top 6 forward Babcock wants...

    Draft Talk

I've seen a couple of mocks, having him take a couple different Swedish defensemen! If he does that, I will absolutely puke...come on Holland, if he's there, Joe Morrow!

    Trade Speculation Talk...

Well, hell, I'll take Regehr and then sign Tanguay as well... So far, from the looks of it, Holland still needs to find three more defensemen, unless he is gonna use Smith or Janik, then he needs two... Regehr AND Wisniewski would be nice! edit: Trade for Regehr, sign Wiz and Montador! draft Morrow! Defense SET for years to come! edit2: if for some reason, Holland trades Filppula and keeps Hudler, I will be disgusted! I will be ok with trading Filppula as long as Hudler is gone as well.

    Trade Speculation Talk...

I don't know where he got it, but a friend of mine today said that he read a report that Detroit was interested in Regehr... Probably a Eklund rumor.... BTW, where is the Official Draft Day Thread?

    Leafs acquire John-Michael Liles

...obviously not someone Holland is interested in... I can see it now, draft a puny swede in the first round and on UFA day, sign more swede's... Please Holland, all I wish for is Joe Morrow in the first round (if he is still there.) Good move for Toronto, maybe by time Detroit gets to the East, they will be good enough to re-kindle the rivalry!!

    Bettman Re-Alignment Proposal

I'd like to see the teams in their divisions. It is weird to think that with only one team moving west, to have two go east... There would have to be another going west, you would think....but who?

No, No, NO! Jagr interested in Detroit.

Here nor there. I am perfectly fine with Holland offering him $2M, but if Pit gets him for more (or even less) no biggie. I'd like to see him play here, but whatever. I am not going to dog him for being 39, he still has good skills, he is much better than Hudler and that alone makes him worth signing. CANNOT compare him to Modano OR Krupp, BOTH GOT INJURED and didn't recover in time to be effective. Some people just don't get it... I'd take him or Jokinen, Tanguay, Arnott, Handzus, Ryder, Selanne or even LaRose to help put some pucks in the net. Even with all this talk about Jagr, whether you were pro or con, NOBODY and I mean virtually NOBODY here said think offense first. We are all on board with spending the most of fixing the Defense, then addressing the offense after. Holland offered a modest contract to Jagr, if he wants more than $2M elsewhere, then good for him. With $16M available and Holland only offering him $2M it just means that Holland has better plans for that money (Hopefully that includes $4.5-$5 for Wisniewski.) He already said that they are a team that spends up to the Cap, so he definitely has plans to spend it. Maybe he saves $4M or so for the trade deadline, just in case, but even spending $12M on the D and a top 6 forward would make this team tons better than last season... Jagr or not...

Lidstrom agrees to 1-year, $6.2m contract

Not taking away from every single HOF/non-HOF player to have played with the Red Wings during my lifetime, which is awesome to have witnessed and am still witnessing, but I feel so privilege to have watch TWO of the absolute greatest players to ever grace the ice, for not just a game or two or a season or two, but for their ENTIRE PROFESSIONAL CAREERS, Steve Yzerman and Nick Lidstrom. Yzerman from day 1 to his last game, and LIdstrom from day 1 to who knows when!?!?! To have these guys be the greatest at what they do, perhaps the greatest when it comes to Lidstrom, and to have then play their entire careers in one city, my city, to never have seen them where a different sweater with the exception of the colors of their Country and the All-Star games, is really just sweet topping on what is turning out to be a pretty awesome life I am living. I have had my issues and life problems, stress, near divorce, bankruptcy, but even with all that, these two guys have helped provide a distraction to keep my mind free and giving me something to enjoy even in my darkest hours. Now with my life totally turned around and to look back a reflect on these guys careers without life's problems entering my mind, I just shake my head in awe. Thank you Steve and Nick for the better part of thirty years of my life! Congrats Nick on the award and thank you for playing yet another season...You truly are the best at what you do and an inspiration to watch! :beerbuddy: to you!

    July 1st UFA Wish List

Well, we got Lids re-signed, so all that is left for me is: Jaromir Jagr ($2M seems like a no brainer gamble) Drew Miller ( 2yrs, $850,000 per) Patrick Eaves (2yrs $950,00 per) James Wisniewski ($4M would be great, but I am think more close to $5M per for 5 years) Steve Montador (1yr $2M) Ed Jovanovski (1yr $3M) Joe Goalie (possibly Nabokov in a deal for Hudler/pick)

No, No, NO! Jagr interested in Detroit.

...so Hasek and Chelios had nothing to do with helping Detroit at all that season? Jagr wont be THE piece that brings Detroit a Cup, but he can be a very important part of a Cup winning team in Detroit... All the anit-Jagr people here say he is too old, but do they ever mention Holmstrom's age? he is only ONE year younger and is still VERY effective at the role he plays and actually had a very good season and playoff for his age. He had 37 points in 73 games played, another player had 37 points in 73 games last season, but Holmstrom made $1M less than that player, then Holmstrom had 7 points in 11 games in the playoffs, that other player had 3 points in 10 games. What's the point you ask? Holmstrom is old too, but he was better at 38 than Hudler was at 26. You can't write off perhaps the greatest Czech born player entirely just because he is 39. If Jagr signs for $2M and puts in 40-50 points over 80 games, plus 15-20 in the playoffs, then it will be a good signing!
  13. LeftWinger

No, No, NO! Jagr interested in Detroit.

It's not even July 1st yet Red, they already signed Lidstrom, they pretty much have at the minimum two more spots to fill on D, that is if they are confident in Janik being #7. If not they need to sign three. Back up goalie will probably be a no brainer, they just need a solid enough goalie to play 20-25 games and maybe some playoff experience to come in if Howard cannot go in the playoffs for whatever reason. There have been plenty of names tossed around here that would fill that role, I have not yet ruled out a trade bringing Nabokov in for that role... we shall see starting this Friday at the draft! Raise your glass to Hudler being traded! :beerbuddy:

No, No, NO! Jagr interested in Detroit.

I like that roster too, its very similar to a few I have suggested, everything the same except I don't have Richards on my team and I have Jovo over Janik, but if Kindl is ready then Janik would do for a 7th defenseman. I would love Richards, but I tend to believe he is gonna paid more than $7.2M, he made more than that last season....but it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility... I would definitely sacrifice Miller for Richards in this scenario, but I would hope to all hope he gets signed and clears waivers and would be available for injury call-ups...
  15. LeftWinger

No, No, NO! Jagr interested in Detroit.

I did feel the same about Modano, but a little something called a severed tendon and missing 3 months kind of put an end to him scoring 40-50 points. It's not like Modano played 80 games and only scored 15 points....
  16. LeftWinger

No, No, NO! Jagr interested in Detroit.

Well, in your scenario of 15+ points (which is laughable, but anyhow) at least they'll be paying Jagr less than Hudler to do the same thing... Jagr: TONS better option than keeping Hudler. You can keep what you're smoking, I do not indulge.
  17. LeftWinger

No, No, NO! Jagr interested in Detroit.

Wow.... ...when he scores 25-30 goals and has 60+ points, I wonder if people will still be acting this way?
  18. LeftWinger

No, No, NO! Jagr interested in Detroit.

The reason Pit really cannot offer Jagr a lot more is even with the Cap going to $64M, they only have $7M available with 6 players to sign in including Tyler Kennedy. Is Kennedy going to cost them $7m? of course not, but Detroit has $16M available and can easily go up to $3M if they wanted to. I am aboard with having Jagr here, he can't hurt this team any adn as long as someone (ahem, couch cough, Hudler, cough) is traded, we don't risk losing Miller/Mursak or Emmerton...
  19. LeftWinger

Lidstrom agrees to 1-year, $6.2m contract

Not really, with the Cap going up to $64M, Holland still has $15.9M to re-sign Miller/Eaves (both of whom won't cost more than $2M combined) Wisniewski may cost between $4.5M - $5.5M but that still is only $7.5M on the high end still giving Holland $7.5M to get another defensman for around $2M or so. Still leaves $4.5M to either bring up Janik to be #7 or if he wants to overpay Ericsson. Once they trade Hudler, that'll open up $2.89M more so that will be roughly $7M to sign a UFA forward and a solid back-up goalie and a 7th defenseman... Hell, I am listening to the presser right now and Holland just said they are a team that is going to go up to the Cap and spend their money...so who knows whats coming up!?!?! (queue up a line combo) CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR FORWARDS Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Jaromir Jagr ($2.500m) Johan Franzen ($3.954m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Todd Bertuzzi ($1.937m) Daniel Cleary ($2.800m) / Darren Helm ($0.912m) / Patrick Eaves ($0.950m) Drew Miller ($0.850m) / Justin Abdelkader ($0.787m) / Tomas Holmstrom ($1.875m) Cory Emmerton ($0.533m) / Jan Mursak ($0.550m) DEFENSEMEN Niklas Kronwall ($3.000m) / Brad Stuart ($3.750m) Nicklas Lidstrom ($6.200m) / James Wisniewski ($5.000m) Ed Jovanovski ($3.000m) / Steve Montador ($2.250m) Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($2.250m) / Joe Goalie ($0.750m) SALARY CAP: $64,000,000; CAP PAYROLL: $60,517,044; BONUSES: $0 CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $3,482,956 That fact that Holland says they are going to spend up to the Cap is really encouraging! I would love to see a lineup similar to this! Wiz for 5 years, Jovo and Monty for a year each, Jagr/Miller/Eaves for 2 years each. Next year throw the wallet at Suter and or Burns.... God, when you have the cash, the off season is soooo exciting!!!
  20. LeftWinger

No, No, NO! Jagr interested in Detroit.

Hudler produces more than Eaves/Miller IF Hudler was making Eaves/Miller money.... but he is making $2.89M, Eaves/Miller actually earn their pay, and then some, so comparably, Eaves/Miller at less than $1M PRODUCE WAY MORE than Hudler at $2.89M. If Hudler made $750,000, we wouldn't be talking about trading him. (well, I might, but that is me! )

Wild Firesale Could Mean Wings Benefit

That would be nice! If Jagr is signed, then trade for Clutterbuck, you would sacrifice Hudler and Mursak or Emmerton, but to have Clutterbuck would be awesome... Imagine a Defense with Burns/Wisniewski/Kronwall/Stuart talk about hitting! Zooie Mama!
  22. LeftWinger

No, No, NO! Jagr interested in Detroit.

fixed.... Great Minds Think Alike! +1,000,000 For You! Miller please....He actually earns his money... Filppula - Datsyuk - Jagr (J. Jokinen) Bertuzzi - Zetterberg - Franzen Eaves - Helm - Cleary Holmstrom - Abdelkader - Miller Mursak - Emmerton Book It!
  23. LeftWinger

    James Wisniewski

I think the Vancouver defense was exposed against Boston. You can blame some bad goals on Luongo, but he needs help. Bieska and Ehrhoff and the boys hung him out to dry more than a few times. No thanks to Bieska over Wiz, if Holland signed both then cool, but the obvious choice is obvious... Wisniewski! (plus he is right handed) SOmeone will overpay for Bieska, that someone shouldn't be Holland...

Wild Firesale Could Mean Wings Benefit

If they are starting from scratch then nearly everyone is moveable. The key as someone mentioned is that there are a lot of teams that cold "OUT TRADE" the Wings for Burns or Clutterbuck. Higher draft picks being that. Also I think if Burns were to be traded here, Smith would be leaving, which unless MInnesota just wants Hudler and Kindl () then why not wait to see if he opts for UFA after next season? This is the ultimate pipedream after net season: Stuart/Kronwall/Burns/Suter/Wisniewski/Smith. Now that is pipedreaming at it's best! But hey, Obama proved that anything is possible and yes we can! Can what? I don't know, but Yes is the answer!
  25. LeftWinger

    James Wisniewski

I happen to believe that Kronwall will get $6M and Stuart will get $5M, add that with Wisniewski at about $5M. You could also try to get Suter for $6M-$7M... Then with Kindl/Smith and someone like Janik for the 7th D, you have roughly $26M in your D corps. Which gives you roughly $38M for your forwards, $21M is already commited, that gives you $17M to sign/re-sign/call up forawrds. You'd have Abdelkader/Helm/Miller/Eaves/Holmstrom/Bertuzzi set to become RFAs/UFAs respectively. I expect Holland would get Abby/Helm for about $2.5M combined. Emmerton and Mursak would be here on their current deals, so Holland would just have to decide on Miller/Eaves (again) and have Tatar and another UFA and/or prospect to make-up the 13/14 forwards. That is if the Cap doesn't move too much from the projected $63.5M it will be this year...(if there is a Cap.) Heck, I say this July reward Miller/Eaves with at least two year deals at about $1.8M combined, that would be less to worry about next off season.... You might even be able to offer Suter even more too! The Wings are sitting very pretty right now for next year IF Lidstrom plays only one more...That is why one year offers to a few aging vets makes a lot of sense this year to get that Cup now!
