Geez, I hope you don't live in a glass house! ..ok, how's this, I think the defense would be worse without Stuart, I am surprised there isnt some talk of trading Hudler, since he is basically the most useless player on this team... Pitkanen is not as good as Stuart in my opinion...
-
You think our defense sucks now? Pitkanen? :puke: I have noticed you have mentioned trading Hudler, perhaps the most useless Wing playing right now....

About the only thing Holland will attempt to get is a goalie. With all the injured players coming back, he won't need to trade for a forward. Someone earlier said that Florida wouldn't take our depth players and a one dimensional Hudler, well they would if they also got a prospect they wanted. Holland could trade that prospect and demand that someone like Hudler be included in the deal too as a salary dump, Hudler may do good in Florida () but I would like to see Holland get Vokoun for the Cup run, it's just shedding the salary to make room for him. Trade Hudler, prospect & draft pick, put Osgood on LTIR and he may have room for Vokoun's salary. Then again, Holland may just stick with Howard/Osgood in order to trade for the very cheap Nabokov over the summer... but there's my thought on a trade deadline deal... edit: Nevermind, Vokoun makes $5.7M, there's no way to acquire that much salary... so oh well... If it's true Versteeg may be up for grabs, Holland could dump Hudler, prospect, draft pick to Toronto... Better be a hot prospect, because who the hell wants Hudler?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TGMgz5xAvI Nope, not him.... -
this is why I could never play in this league (besides the fact I am not good enough, but that's another topic! )if a player blatently tried to injury me that way and possibly end my season or career, I would have gotten up a reeled my stick back and two handed him right in the back of the neck!
-
he makes over $5M, so it would take some salary dump, Hudler ($2.85M) and someone else who makes $2.5M or more... most likely not gonna happen, but it would be nice!
-
The question is, who are the Wings gonna go after for the run? Oh wait, we have the proverbial <players name> coming back from injury is our trade deadline acquisition... ...lets hope it works this year! I would like to see the Wings trade for Vokoun. Pitts will get Crysby back, so they probably won't trade for anyone...

PLUS, they have over $24M avail in cap space in the off season, with nobody else to sign that is more important to them then Weber. Look for a lifetime contract with Rafalski/Lidstrom type $$$. Then Suter is an UFA the next off season, with tons of cash to spend. Those two are in Nashville to stay! (unless they want out for some reason, that could happen.)

I agree! The holdout didn't sit too well with Mr. I, but more so than that,I think it is who actually signed Fedorov is what REALLY pissed Ilitch off! Pete Karmanos and Iltich are BITTER, BITTER, BITTER (did I mention BITTER?) rivals and generally do not like each other. Then, during his contract year 2002-2003, Iltich offered him TOP salary and Fedorov didn't want to sign until AFTER the season, that also offended Ilitch and after he pulled that 5yr offer off the table, his offer after the season shrunk to 4 yrs. Fedorov said he would accept the earlier offer and Iltich told him that offer was gone. So Feds signed for the same amount in Anaheim.

at how this thread has gotten way off topic! BUT to keep it off topic, put the Russian 5 up against Franzen - Zetterberg - Holmstrom Lidstrom - Kronwall. I think the Russians would prevail.
-
and for those of us that suffered thru the early 80's and all the playoff disappointments of the late 80's - early 90's.... WOW! What a run! No wonder every other hockey city in the NHL hates us! SucK it Trebek!
-
Well, honestly, I do believe that Fedorov was the greatest modern day Red Wing of all time, BUT watching Steve Yzerman play in the mid to late 80's, before Fedorov showed up, its hard to not put Steve in that raw talent category. If Steve didn't have the misfortune of playing his best offensive days while with a couple other guys in league (not sure, but I think they were called Gretzky and Lemieux) Yzerman EASILY would have won a few Hart trophies during that time. Top 5 Red Wings of all time are Yzerman, Fedorov, Lidstrom, Howe & Delvecchio. (not necessarily in that order) Don't look now, though, Pavel Datsyuk in currently 9th all time in Red Wings scoring with 631 points with three years left on this current contract, he will probably pass Feds up in points if he re-signs and remains a Red Wing for his entire career. I don't think he'll catch Yzerman or Howe, but he may pass Lidstrom up too, and then in ten years our debate will be who was better, Feds or Dats...

Also taking nothing away from Franzen's performance last night, 5 goals in one game is a great accomplishment. BUT (there's always a but) looking back over the highlights of Fedorov's 5 goal game, none were on a 5on3 powerplay and there was no empty net goal. Man, watching that video, I miss Sergei... We were truly blessed having him here in Detroit...
-
now there's a debate! I believe with 100%, that if Fedorov was a defenseman (FULLTIME) and still had all the two way dominating talent that he possessed while here, HE would be the one with all the Norris' and he would be considered better than Lidstrom. He wold also be rivaling Orr, if not have passed him up in Norris Trophy's. edit: Fedorov has 136 less Red Wing points than Lidstrom, but has played in 554 LESS Red Wing games than Lidstrom. Fedorov career average as a Red Wing is 1.05 PPG, Lidstom's is .74 PPG. I know this is comparing a forward to a defensman, but you have to believe that Fedorov would still score more points than Lids considering his offensive dominance. Being a top defender, he would also be on the ice more than he was as a forward, so you would have to factor that in too... I aint knocking Lidstrom at all, don't get me wrong.

1994.... Lindros in his prime over Fedorov at 100% full speed? No.... Remember PRE-concussion, Konstaninov made Lindros look stupid, at full speed NOBODY could touch Fedorov.
-
it's crazy, once they get their "payday" they get lazy... Fedorov did most of his damage at $285,000 per season. Franzen got his rep BEFORE he got his lifetime contract... hmmmm....
-
I'll say it for you.... Crosby... The "Diving" rule started waning when one Cindy Lee Crosby came into the league and became the poster child for abortion...er, I mean the NHL. He was diving all over the ice trying to rival Greg Luganis, and Uncle Gary and his NHL cronies couldn't go putting Crosby on the naughty list and suspending their poster child every week, hence the diving penalty became extinct. Love him or hate him, this is the reason that penalty disappeared.
-
I hear you on the sometimes seems lazy comparison. But even that being said, I know Sergei Fedorov, Sergei Fedorov is a friend of mine, Johan Franzen is no Sergei Fedorov... ...anyhow seriously, Fedorov made all those plays and dominated the ice in a totally different NHL, clutch and grab, impede, interfere, etc... Could you imagine Fedorov from 1994 playing in today's freestyle game? Sheesh! I do agree with the lack of effort every night comparison, BUT, when Fedorov was on, he was better than ANYONE in the league, including Greztky and Messier AND Yzerman. You cannot say the same about Franzen, even when Franzen is on, he pales in comparison to the other consistent elite players in the league. Plus, he could NEVER play as good as Feds if Franzen played in 1996, even if they were both ON that night. ...don't even get me started on the fragility of Franzen compared to Sergei....

Wow, Sabres, now Devils for sale, which one is moving west?
-
just like they love everyone just because they are a Red Wing, like you cannot be a fan if you don't worship all of the Red Wings, like they're omnipotent ()

Craig Conroy Clears Waivers, Thinking Retirement
LeftWinger replied to Bring Back The Bruise Bros's topic in General
Mr. Holland, are you listening? Aging Vet, good two way player with some Snarl, never won a Cup, league minimum.... I think this could be a smart pickup... -
this is both a reply to you and the OP. Maybe Lidstrom is thinking about possibly signing in Nashville next season, then we'll see him play with Weber! That would be the easiest way to get them together! (I joke, I joke!)

Noone, just would like some change. I will take the 4 cups I've witnessed over some song changes...
