Dude, you still only have 11 forwards.... Leino re-signs at his same salary? Dude, I don't know what your man-love is for Hudler, but let it go... plus you cannot evn bring up Abby, because you only have $600,000 left...
-
Problem is, if you match a $2.5 million offer for Hudler, you aren't getting Leino OR Abby up here. And yo uare short 2 forwards. Can't play with 10 forwards, face it, if Huds wants a raise, we'll see him somewhere else...
-
So just who do you suggest he trades in order to keep Hudler?
-
Amen to all the Hudler posts! Sure he's worth more than $2.5, but not with our cap! He needs to either sign for $1.1 or get a long term Zetterberg deal that pays him $2.5 but cap hit is $1.0.... Plus a second round pick for Hudler, because of our cap situation, is golden. Besides look what we did with 2 senconds rounders this year....

Sorry, The Mule just beat me to posting it. You can delete mine....

Oh God! I hope he wouldn't waste $2.5 million on Hudler.... Besides that would only be 10 forwards with only $800,000 cap to go. You couldn't even re-sign Leino if you gave Hudler $2.5... Holland would be an ass. I know what 57 point 25 year old are worth, BUT we don't have enough cap space to give Hudler $2.5 AND complete our forward units.... He'll have to make the same salary, at least for one more year, then possibly get a raise in 2010... Or bid adieu! Not unless Holland does a Zetterberg type contract where Huds makes $2.5 per year, but he cap hit is only $1.0. That I could deal with, don't know if I culd deal with Hudler for the next 10 years, but maybe he turns into something good!
-
so why would we give a raise to a one-dimensional player? I'll keep hudler, but for his same salary. He hasn't shown he deserves a raise, so if wants more than $1.1, good on ya huds! Enjoy your career!

I like it! With $1.1 million left over for call ups! Or if you ae skeptical about Moen @ $1.25, offer him $1.5million still leaves room for Abby if needed... -

Sammy at $2million no thanks... WIth your linup, how much cap is left over? edit: nevermind, I checked, with giving Lappy $2millin and Leino $950,000 yo still have $1 million left over for Orr (would he command more than that, I don't know much about him) -

It all teeters on Hossa.... I know trading Kronwall is VERY unpopular, but if you trade Filppula or Cleary you have even less forwards, so you have Hossa & keep Kronwall then you only have 10 forwards. Who fills in the 3 other spots? I do hear you on Kronwall and in a few years our top two SHOULD be Kronner and Ericsson. But if Hossa acceptsm someone in the $3million range has to go. Rafi & Stuart have NTC's (which cold be waived, but...) and money wise, it would be easier to complete you roster if you only had to replace 1 defencman NOT 3 forwards. Trading Meech AND LEbda would not clear enough room capwise either. I am not advocating trading Kronwall, BUT, I am just looking at having an incomplete roster with no capspace versus a complete roster with no capspace... Hudler = Gone, get over it... -

Ok, so here is our roster as it stands, not including ANY UFA OR RFA, just players under contract and who are going to start the season in Detroit. (If you want to subtract Lilja you can, but noone knows if he'll be ready so I will keep him ON the roster.) With this Roster we have $3.3 Million dollars to play with... FORWARDS 9 out of 13 Pavel Datsyuk $6,700,000 Henrik Zetterberg $6,083,333 Johan Franzen $3,954,545 Valtteri Filppula $3,000,000 Daniel Cleary $2,800,000 Tomas Holmstrom $2,250,000 Kris Draper $1,583,333 Kirk Maltby $883,333 Darren Helm $599,444 DEFENSEMEN 8 out of 7 needed (Meech Could move up to Forward if No Lilja then 7 out of 7) Nicklas Lidstrom $7,450,000 Brian Rafalaski $6,000,000 Brad Stuart $3,750,000 Niklas Kronwall $3,000,000 Andreas Lilja $1,250,000 Jonathan Ericsson $900,000 Brett Lebda $650,000 Derek Meech $483,333 GOALTENDERS 2 out of 2 Chris Osgood $1,416,666 Jimmy Howard $716,666 with this roster we have $3.3 million to sign 4 forwards (at least three if Meech double duties.) If Lilja doesn't play then we have $4.5 million. You are the GM, you have NO Hossa now, within reason (meaning players that would accept these conracts you offer REALISTICALLY) find 4 more forwards and sign them up! Because of my dislike for Hudler, I would not offer him anything. But who do you get? 4 forwards... Of course I am also assuming you re-sign Leino ($950,000 not unreasonable,) so now you are down to 3 with $3.6 million... Here's mine: Leino $950,000 Travis Moen - $1.25 Joel Ward - $850,000 Vern Fiddler - $1.25 That'll make Maltby your 13th forward and Meech your 7th defensman & extra forward as well. It only leaves me $275,000 in cap space, but our injuries should be covered with Meech & Malbty. Now if Lilja comes back, that'll case a problem for my roster. Then the Trades or Waiver starts... What do YOU do? -
Holland "Not Optimistic" about re-signing Hossa

Ya, hear ya, but in the scenarios, you cannot fill out your forward rostor with the very little funds you'll hve ;eft over by trading Filppula or Cleary. Unless Stuart or Rafi waive, Lebda & Meech aren't going to free up enough space, someone else in the $3million range has to go. Kronner. We also have Big Ericsson as well. Just think of the quagmire we'll have when both his and Kronwall contracts up? Hate to do it, but of the two, Ericsson would be the one to stay. Plus you could probably get a first rounder for Kronwall... losing players or trading them are all unpopular and shocking, but in the Cap world, it has to be done. The cap was created so there could be no more dynasty's. And the next CBA will disallow the kind of contracts Holland has mastered. The NHL will figure out a way to outlaw front loaded cntracts. It's reality. In my scenario, we lose Sammy, Hudler, Chelios, Kronwall, Kopecky, Conklin and gain Hossa, Ericsson, Helm, Abby, Leino, Howard, Joe UFA & possibly Kindl. One of these days the youth has to arrive, Helm/Abby/Leino/Ericsson are all ready. Howard is going to get his shot and to fill out the D, give Kindl the nod. Of course the same thing would be if lets say Stuart waives, $then just replace Kronner with Stuart (or Rafi.) Either way, the kids ar out of options (with the exception of Abby/Kindl) but they're coming.... -
Holland "Not Optimistic" about re-signing Hossa

To go along with the other thread, if Hossa signs for $4.5, Kronwall will be the one traded. With Hossa we only have 11 forwards (ad that is with re-signing Leino) why take away from an already short staffed forward group when you have 8 defensmen (Lilja included.) If Lilja is not healthy, you have seven, but trading away Lebda AND Meech is NOT going to free up enough space to bring up Abby (I know he is pegged to spend the year in GRR, but it is an option when you are short 2 forwards.) OR sign two forwards to fill out your forwards. Now all of a sudden you are down to 6 defensmen with no room to bring up someone. Keeping Lebda/Meech allows you to have 7 defensmen and 12 forwards (because Meech doubles up front.) Now, trading Kronwall not only opens up $3 million more, it allows Meech to serve as that 7th defensman & 13th forward. And you still have cash to sign (or bring up Abby) to fill out your 13 forwards. I know trading Kronwall is even less popular than trading Filppula, but it makes more business sense, you'll have less spots to fill. WITH KRONWALL & HOSSA:(assuming Lilja is out) Cleary - Zetter - Dats Hossa - Filppula - Franzen Leino - Helm - Holmstrom Maltby - Draper - ?????? Meech Lids - Rafi Stu - Kron Leb - Eric Meech The above roster puts us over the CAP by $870,000 all while missing a 12th forward. If you trade Meech/Lebda you are now down 2 forwards and 2 defensmen plus you only have $262,000 to fill 4 roster spots. Now, if you trade Kronwall (of course this is also assuming Stuart or Rafi will NOT waive their NTC's) the roster looks like this, with Hossa and no Lilja: Cleary - Zetts - Dats Hossa - Filpp - Franz Leino - Helm - Holm Maltby - Drap - ????? ???? Lids - Rafi Stu - Eric Lebda - Meech ???? Notice there is still 3 spots open, but you now have $2.1 million to fill those spots. I am a fan for bring up Abby, and giving maybe someone on the D in GRR a ligit shot, like Kindl. Or you can sign a defenman for around $1million and once again Meech can act as your 7th defensman and your 13th forward. If you trade Filppula or Cleary sure the money freed up is nearly the same, but then you'd have to sign a 2nd line center for $1.8 to $2.1 million. Whatever happens, we are goin to look a little different next year, Hossa or not. I hope Hossa signs, but if he doesn't no biggie, I just hope Holland doesn't waste his entire cap space on Hudler... -

...and yet, evryday Labor Unions accross the country are FORCED to take huge, life changing paycuts in order to "save" the company all while the executives are hanging on to golden parachutes and getting government stimulus packages so they can fund their own bonuses. Many more people are volunteering huge paycuts so they can keep their job, and are still filing bankruptcy and foreclosing their homes all while the rich get richer. F**K you Executives, Chysler, GM, Delphi, Northwest, Delta and any other union bashing hack out there! ...ok, now back to subject. It's too bad Bettman and the owners screwed the PLayers Association (Union) by only upping the Cap by $100,000! Thats not even league minimum, at least up it by one body! Even though the teams made more money this year, more teams soldout, the playoffs were the most watched in a long, long time. The league generated tons more money this year than last and they still only raised the cap by a measley $100,000! It's too bad because Hossa at $6m IS a huge, HUGE discount, and we cannot even afford that! It is absolutely horrible that the teams with ourageous support have to suffer because teams like Phoenix cannot keep up their end, like punish me because we have a huge fanbase! Hey Gary, if I am a Wings fan living in Phoenix, doesn't matter how much you pamper the local team, I am not changing to a Coyotes fan. The more you screw my team, the more you alienate me from the sport, period. You are ruining the NHL and hockey in general. You are forcing these players to take HUGE pay cuts in order for your owners and your board members to rake in record profits. Thanks Gary, thanks for recinding the instigator and thanks for nothing... I will not Hate him if he leaves, much like when Fedorov left... -

Holland "Not Optimistic" about re-signing Hossa
LeftWinger replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
Whatever dude, you know as well as everyone does, it was a lot of people who came up short this playoff. Hossa didn't choke anymore than Hudler or Holmstrom. He outscored them actually. But to actually act like Hossa owes it to you to come back and play for pennies just because he didn't lead the world in scoring in the playoffs, is idiotic. Dude, he gave up MILLIONS to have a shot at the Cup here, you really think he's going to give up MILLIONS upon MILLIONS to try it again? He just might, but that doesn't justify you calling him a playoff choke and insinuate that he is raping Holland by asking for $6million. My point was, if Hossa is a playoff choker, then so are Holmstrom/Hudler/Draper/Maltby amongst others who failed to perform as well as they did last season. But according to your logic, every supestar should come play in Detroit for a fraction of what you're worth if you EVER want to win a Cup. Chump, you call him, pathetic I call you. You are probably one of those "fans" that boo Fedorov too... -
