Holland "Not Optimistic" about re-signing Hossa
LeftWinger replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
Ok, so here is our roster as it stands, not including ANY UFA OR RFA, just players under contract and who are going to start the season in Detroit. (If you want to subtract Lilja you can, but noone knows if he'll be ready so I will keep him ON the roster.) With this Roster we have $3.3 Million dollars to play with... FORWARDS 9 out of 13 Pavel Datsyuk $6,700,000 Henrik Zetterberg $6,083,333 Johan Franzen $3,954,545 Valtteri Filppula $3,000,000 Daniel Cleary $2,800,000 Tomas Holmstrom $2,250,000 Kris Draper $1,583,333 Kirk Maltby $883,333 Darren Helm $599,444 DEFENSEMEN 8 out of 7 needed (Meech Could move up to Forward if No Lilja then 7 out of 7) Nicklas Lidstrom $7,450,000 Brian Rafalaski $6,000,000 Brad Stuart $3,750,000 Niklas Kronwall $3,000,000 Andreas Lilja $1,250,000 Jonathan Ericsson $900,000 Brett Lebda $650,000 Derek Meech $483,333 GOALTENDERS 2 out of 2 Chris Osgood $1,416,666 Jimmy Howard $716,666 with this roster we have $3.3 million to sign 4 forwards (at least three if Meech double duties.) If Lilja doesn't play then we have $4.5 million. You are the GM, you have NO Hossa now, within reason (meaning players that would accept these conracts you offer REALISTICALLY) find 4 more forwards and sign them up! Because of my dislike for Hudler, I would not offer him anything. But who do you get? 4 forwards... Of course I am also assuming you re-sign Leino ($950,000 not unreasonable,) so now you are down to 3 with $3.6 million... Here's mine: Leino $950,000 Travis Moen - $1.25 Joel Ward - $850,000 Vern Fiddler - $1.25 That'll make Maltby your 13th forward and Meech your 7th defensman & extra forward as well. It only leaves me $275,000 in cap space, but our injuries should be covered with Meech & Malbty. Now if Lilja comes back, that'll case a problem for my roster. Then the Trades or Waiver starts... What do YOU do? -

Ya, hear ya, but in the scenarios, you cannot fill out your forward rostor with the very little funds you'll hve ;eft over by trading Filppula or Cleary. Unless Stuart or Rafi waive, Lebda & Meech aren't going to free up enough space, someone else in the $3million range has to go. Kronner. We also have Big Ericsson as well. Just think of the quagmire we'll have when both his and Kronwall contracts up? Hate to do it, but of the two, Ericsson would be the one to stay. Plus you could probably get a first rounder for Kronwall... losing players or trading them are all unpopular and shocking, but in the Cap world, it has to be done. The cap was created so there could be no more dynasty's. And the next CBA will disallow the kind of contracts Holland has mastered. The NHL will figure out a way to outlaw front loaded cntracts. It's reality. In my scenario, we lose Sammy, Hudler, Chelios, Kronwall, Kopecky, Conklin and gain Hossa, Ericsson, Helm, Abby, Leino, Howard, Joe UFA & possibly Kindl. One of these days the youth has to arrive, Helm/Abby/Leino/Ericsson are all ready. Howard is going to get his shot and to fill out the D, give Kindl the nod. Of course the same thing would be if lets say Stuart waives, $then just replace Kronner with Stuart (or Rafi.) Either way, the kids ar out of options (with the exception of Abby/Kindl) but they're coming.... -

To go along with the other thread, if Hossa signs for $4.5, Kronwall will be the one traded. With Hossa we only have 11 forwards (ad that is with re-signing Leino) why take away from an already short staffed forward group when you have 8 defensmen (Lilja included.) If Lilja is not healthy, you have seven, but trading away Lebda AND Meech is NOT going to free up enough space to bring up Abby (I know he is pegged to spend the year in GRR, but it is an option when you are short 2 forwards.) OR sign two forwards to fill out your forwards. Now all of a sudden you are down to 6 defensmen with no room to bring up someone. Keeping Lebda/Meech allows you to have 7 defensmen and 12 forwards (because Meech doubles up front.) Now, trading Kronwall not only opens up $3 million more, it allows Meech to serve as that 7th defensman & 13th forward. And you still have cash to sign (or bring up Abby) to fill out your 13 forwards. I know trading Kronwall is even less popular than trading Filppula, but it makes more business sense, you'll have less spots to fill. WITH KRONWALL & HOSSA:(assuming Lilja is out) Cleary - Zetter - Dats Hossa - Filppula - Franzen Leino - Helm - Holmstrom Maltby - Draper - ?????? Meech Lids - Rafi Stu - Kron Leb - Eric Meech The above roster puts us over the CAP by $870,000 all while missing a 12th forward. If you trade Meech/Lebda you are now down 2 forwards and 2 defensmen plus you only have $262,000 to fill 4 roster spots. Now, if you trade Kronwall (of course this is also assuming Stuart or Rafi will NOT waive their NTC's) the roster looks like this, with Hossa and no Lilja: Cleary - Zetts - Dats Hossa - Filpp - Franz Leino - Helm - Holm Maltby - Drap - ????? ???? Lids - Rafi Stu - Eric Lebda - Meech ???? Notice there is still 3 spots open, but you now have $2.1 million to fill those spots. I am a fan for bring up Abby, and giving maybe someone on the D in GRR a ligit shot, like Kindl. Or you can sign a defenman for around $1million and once again Meech can act as your 7th defensman and your 13th forward. If you trade Filppula or Cleary sure the money freed up is nearly the same, but then you'd have to sign a 2nd line center for $1.8 to $2.1 million. Whatever happens, we are goin to look a little different next year, Hossa or not. I hope Hossa signs, but if he doesn't no biggie, I just hope Holland doesn't waste his entire cap space on Hudler... -

...and yet, evryday Labor Unions accross the country are FORCED to take huge, life changing paycuts in order to "save" the company all while the executives are hanging on to golden parachutes and getting government stimulus packages so they can fund their own bonuses. Many more people are volunteering huge paycuts so they can keep their job, and are still filing bankruptcy and foreclosing their homes all while the rich get richer. F**K you Executives, Chysler, GM, Delphi, Northwest, Delta and any other union bashing hack out there! ...ok, now back to subject. It's too bad Bettman and the owners screwed the PLayers Association (Union) by only upping the Cap by $100,000! Thats not even league minimum, at least up it by one body! Even though the teams made more money this year, more teams soldout, the playoffs were the most watched in a long, long time. The league generated tons more money this year than last and they still only raised the cap by a measley $100,000! It's too bad because Hossa at $6m IS a huge, HUGE discount, and we cannot even afford that! It is absolutely horrible that the teams with ourageous support have to suffer because teams like Phoenix cannot keep up their end, like punish me because we have a huge fanbase! Hey Gary, if I am a Wings fan living in Phoenix, doesn't matter how much you pamper the local team, I am not changing to a Coyotes fan. The more you screw my team, the more you alienate me from the sport, period. You are ruining the NHL and hockey in general. You are forcing these players to take HUGE pay cuts in order for your owners and your board members to rake in record profits. Thanks Gary, thanks for recinding the instigator and thanks for nothing... I will not Hate him if he leaves, much like when Fedorov left... -

Maybe that means Hossa is gonna sign and we may have to trade Kronwall...

Holland "Not Optimistic" about re-signing Hossa
LeftWinger replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
Whatever dude, you know as well as everyone does, it was a lot of people who came up short this playoff. Hossa didn't choke anymore than Hudler or Holmstrom. He outscored them actually. But to actually act like Hossa owes it to you to come back and play for pennies just because he didn't lead the world in scoring in the playoffs, is idiotic. Dude, he gave up MILLIONS to have a shot at the Cup here, you really think he's going to give up MILLIONS upon MILLIONS to try it again? He just might, but that doesn't justify you calling him a playoff choke and insinuate that he is raping Holland by asking for $6million. My point was, if Hossa is a playoff choker, then so are Holmstrom/Hudler/Draper/Maltby amongst others who failed to perform as well as they did last season. But according to your logic, every supestar should come play in Detroit for a fraction of what you're worth if you EVER want to win a Cup. Chump, you call him, pathetic I call you. You are probably one of those "fans" that boo Fedorov too... -
LOL! There goes half the Cap room they had.....

:puke: Huds failed more miserably in the playoffs! Hossa @ $6 milllion is far better than Hudler @ $10.00, yes thats ten dollars. Hudler... BYE BYE! -
There are four things that are the absolute best days events in sports today. For me, bigger than the Super Bowl, bigger than the World Cup, larger than the World Series, more poweful than a locomotive. They are Hoisting the Stanley Cup, NHL Trade Deadline, July 1st and draft day!
-
My dream scenario would've have been trade the rights to Hudler, Kronwall, this years 1st, 2nd, 3rd round picks and possibly another propect (and since this Hossa thing isn't going to work, his rights too) to Tampa for their 2nd overall and drafted Hedman... ...of course I would have also let thes rest of our UFA's walk, re-sig Leino and use the $7 million in cap space to bring up Helm/Ericsson/Abby. I woud let Howard go, and sign Roloson (sp) to back up Osgood cheap! Then fill out the forwards by signing somone like Travis Moen and Chad LaRose for total of $2.5 million. I would trade Lebda or Meech for a draft pick, lets go with Meech because he'd get us a higher pick, lets say a 3rd rounder. That would make Maltby your 13th forward and Lebda your 7th defensman. Thus leaving $1.3M for injury call-ups. Here is a look: (not actual line combos) FORWARDS Pavel Datsyuk ($6.7m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.1m) / Johan Franzen ($4.0m) Daniel Cleary ($2.8m)/Valtteri Filppula ($3.0m) /* Ville Leino ($0.9m) * Chad Larose ($1.25m) / Kris Draper ($1.6m) / * Travis Moen ($1.25m) Justin Abdelkader ($0.8m) / Darren Helm ($0.6m) / Tomas Holmstrom ($2.2m) Kirk Maltby ($0.9m) DEFENSEMEN Nicklas Lidstrom ($7.5m) / Brian Rafalaski ($6.0m) Brad Stuart ($3.8m) / Andreas Lilja ($1.2m) * Victor Hedman ($0.9m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($0.9m) Brett Lebda ($0.7m) GOALTENDERS Chris Osgood ($1.4m) / * Dwayne Roloson ($1.0m) CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS ROSTER: 22; PAYROLL: $55.5m; CAP ROOM: $1.3m

Holland "Not Optimistic" about re-signing Hossa
LeftWinger replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
Actually, I believe the latest is if Hossa doesn't agree by tonight, his rghts will be traded somewhere, so Holland gets something out of the deal. I'd take a nice trade like the Bouwmeester (sp) deal. Another UFA looking for a modest raise to about $1.5M and a 2nd round pick! From someone like Minn or LA that could be another high second rounder! -
Holland "Not Optimistic" about re-signing Hossa
LeftWinger replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
WRONG COWBOY!!!! We have $3.3 million RIGHT NOW and that is with Helm/Howard/Ericsson on the roster. That's 9 forwards, 8 D-men and 2 goalies. re-sign Leino at a MODEST raise of $950,000 drops it down to roughly $2.3 million. If you plan on being able to call up Abby throughout the year, knock another $850,000 off of that, equalling $1,529,347 TO PLAY WITH! If you don't want Abby up you have $2.3 to play with. Get a frickin clue.... So, that gives you 11 forwards, 8 defense, 2 goalies with $1.5m to add ONE player. Do you suck up all your cap space with Hudler or Sammy? Hudler will get offers of at least $2m elsewhere so you'd have to give him the entire amount, and since he already made $1.1 last season, he may be looking for a bit more of a raise than $400,000. Sammy the same way, he made $1.2m last season. You have to choose one of them or none of them and go with new blood to fill out 13 forwards. Now if you leave Abby down in GRR, you could spend the entire $2.3m on both of them, but they'd get no raises. For my money, Abby should be hear over Sammy, and Sammy would stay before Hudler ONLY because losing Sammy you get nothing, losing Hudler you at least get a draft pik or two as compensation... My prefernce, let them both go and get some New Blood in here for the $1.5m. Then you have 4 solid lines with Meech acting as your 13th F and 8th D. Lebda will be your 7th, unless Lilja is LTIR, in which it gives you another $1.25 added to the original $3.3, but Lilja will probably be back, so you don't want to waste up that space and be hoggtied midway through the season having to dump salary... So, no cowboy, we don't have $4m, we have $1.5m. Unless you want a roster of only 18 skaters. That is why if Hossa sign's someone in the $3million range is going to have to be traded, along with losing the rest of our UFA's and Hudler, so we can fill out our roster with cheap dollar players. Nothing personal against Hudler, just business-wise it makes more sense to get compensated than not. -
If Hossa goes, we'll have roughly $1.5million to play with (unless Lilja is on LTIR) then lets say $2.75million. But since Lilja will probably be back sometime, lets go with the $1.5. Would any of those guys get more than $1million elsewhere?
-
I am sure Janet Jones to this day is still banned from Alberta and possibly all of Canada! (except Calgary of course!)
-
so, with that being the case, the Wings only have a cap space of $2.3 million left so, someone bewtween the $2 and $3 million range has got to go. More so the $3 million.
-
sure, but what GM's DO DO is to know when another team is handcuffed and HAS to move the player because of certain situations. If $3 million gets you a seond rounder then why on earth would a team offer that same 2nd rounder when they could just wait and give up the 2nd rounder anyway? Anyhow,I know what you are saying, but it's called lowballing, same reason the Blue Jackets asked for so much for Fedorov, then took pennies on the Holland dollar from Washington. Whatever, bottom line is he is not going to be here if he wants a significant raise, the Wings just simply cannot afford it. Neither is Kopy or Sammy.... Bring on the kids I guess!
-
ok, what exactly do we know abou this $4-$5 MILLION? Is that the actual salary or is that the Cap hit? If it's the actual salary for 10 years, then what, I wonder is the Cap hit? Because even if Abby stays in GRR, we still only have $2.3million in cap space after losing Sammy/Kopy/Hudler AND bringing up Helm/Ericsson/Howard and resigning Leino at $950,000. If $4-$5 million is the cap hit, someone around $3 million has got to go, in order to sign Hossa and be able to bring up Abby throughout the season.... ...hmmmmmm, interesting....
-
ok, lets use that logic: (and capgeek) 2009-2010 Detroit Red Wings FORWARDS Pavel Datsyuk $6,700,000 Henrik Zetterberg $6,083,333 Johan Franzen $3,954,545 Valtteri Filppula $3,000,000 Daniel Cleary $2,800,000 Tomas Holmstrom $2,250,000 * Jiri Hudler $2,000,000 Kris Draper $1,583,333 * Ville Leino $950,000 Kirk Maltby $883,333 Darren Helm $599,444 DEFENSEMEN Nicklas Lidstrom $7,450,000 Brian Rafalaski $6,000,000 Brad Stuart $3,750,000 Niklas Kronwall $3,000,000 Andreas Lilja $1,250,000 Jonathan Ericsson $900,000 Brett Lebda $650,000 Derek Meech $483,333 GOALTENDERS Chris Osgood $1,416,666 Jimmy Howard $716,666 ROSTER SIZE 21 SALARY CAP $56,800,000 PAYROLL $56,420,653 BONUS MONEY (ESTIMATED) (0% of cap) $0 CAP ROOM $379,347 CAP ROOM PER OPEN SPOT $189,674 AUTO-GENERATED CAPGEEK.COM LINES FORWARDS Pavel Datsyuk ($6.7m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.1m) / Johan Franzen ($4.0m) Valtteri Filppula ($3.0m) / Daniel Cleary ($2.8m) / Tomas Holmstrom ($2.2m) * Jiri Hudler ($2.0m) / Kris Draper ($1.6m) / * Ville Leino ($0.9m) Kirk Maltby ($0.9m) / Darren Helm ($0.6m) DEFENSEMEN Nicklas Lidstrom ($7.5m) / Brian Rafalaski ($6.0m) Brad Stuart ($3.8m) / Niklas Kronwall ($3.0m) Andreas Lilja ($1.2m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($0.9m) Brett Lebda ($0.7m) / Derek Meech ($0.5m) GOALTENDERS Chris Osgood ($1.4m) / Jimmy Howard ($0.7m) ...so giving Huds $2million (your minimum) Leino a modest raise to $950,000. Brining up Helm/Ericsson/Howard permanently. Leaves you (see above) $379,347,with only 11 forwards! Pencil Meech in as the 13th, who are you gonna get for $379,000? Nobody. Not even Abby. Like I said Hudler or Sammy at $1.1 AND bring up Abby, fine, but if either want more (not that they are not worth more, just not with our space) then let the go. Bring Up Abby for the 11th spot and Meech can be the 13th, you'll have $1.5 for a UFA to fill the 12th forward position, like I said if Sammy or Huds takes it, I guess I am fine, but maybe find someone a little hungrier for the $1.5....
-
I know the D is "set" according to Holland, but Scuderi only made $725,000 last season and he is looking for a significant raise. Does anyone know what Pit can afford to pay him under the Cap? If we don'tr re-sign Hossa, we could more than double his salary to $1.5 million and still have $3.0 million or so to re-sign Leino and possibly two other UFA's. Lids - Rafi Stuart - Kronwall Ericsson - Scuderi (Lebda - Lilja - Meech) If Lilja is Healthy, deal Lebda or Meech, if not, then deal Lebda or Meech
-
What a waste of cap space that would be! Plus that would tie up all the remaining space! Plus Abby is stuck inG all season barring LTIR. Plus meech will be your 13th forward AND 7th defensman (if Lilja cannot play) LET HUDLER WALK FOR ANYTHING OVER $1.1million... (not that he is not worth it, he is worth $3m or more, but not with our limited cap space, don't wanna use the entire cap on Hudler and have no room for call ups.)
