I know, I only used them as an example of getting low balled for someone who is obviously worth more...

Bottom line, Bettman gave Pit a better chance to win by recinding Malkin's instigator that would've resulted in a game 3 suspension, in turn, giving Detroit an unfair advantage because Pit's leading scorer wouldn't be there to get three assists that night, one on an offside non-call and one shorthanded, directly after Pit should've been whistled for having six players on the ice and instead of calling the penalty, the ref simply yelled at the player to get off the ice for 20 plus seconds. As a result, Bettman and the refs handed the series to Pit. Considering that most experts say the non-call and short handed goal was the turning point of the series... Ilitch (and 28 other owners) sees the crap, and without saying a word, showed how disgusted he is with Bettman. He is watering down the league and ruining the sport. Not very wise Gary to get your voted best owner in sports on your bad side, who do you think the rest of the owners (besides Pussei Lemeiux) will side with when it comes time to vote on essential items? NUmber 1 being new ownership of the Coyotes, "oh Gary, we'd lke to keep them in Phoenix, but No!" Sale approved, back to Canada they go! Voila!

Ya, but Fedorov will make more than $1.9 million. And that is just too much for our wallet. Now, if Fedorov would come here for $1million or less, bring it!

The one thing about siging Hossa to a contract that would put us over that scares me is, now 29 other teams know we have to get rid of someone (trade or waive) and there will be no fair trade scenario's out there. We'd be getting offers like, a 4th round pick for Stuart or a 5th for Rafi, all knowing we have to get rid of someone... That being said, whatever Hossa signs for, we sill still need nearly $3 million left over to bring up Helm, Howard, Ericsson and re-sign Leino. If we re-sign Hossa for $4, then we would need $7 million in cap space. Plus, we'd lose Hudler, Kopecky, Sammy, Chelios & McCarty and Downey, without even a chance of re-signing any of them. If the Cap goes down, then are we gonna have $7 million left? Someone is going to be traded if Hossa signs, and that brigs me back to my original fear, 29 teams will lowball us knowing we have to getr rid of someone and even the best offer would be the worst offer if ourhands weren't forced... I am all for signing Hossa, since I really won't miss any of the mentioned players above, but I just wish we'd be able to get market value for the someone who will have to be moved. Is there some sort of NHL trade arbitrator out there to prevent this type of thing?
-
You see where that got Chrysler, eh? I wonder how much, if any, effect Hossa's two headers into the endboards at the end of the season had anything to do with his play?
-
of course maybe Malkin doesn't understand the rule. Every pic I see of him, it looks like all he can say is "Duh.... Gee.... Ok...."

What about when Steve Yzerman makes this decision?

I think I am the only one who gets the Irony of this post. But, its not really a good idea to get under the skin of the best owner in you sport Gary. It was only a matterof time until Ilitch started in on him. Gary, you may be the commisioner, but who do you think elects that position? Right... You have definately crossed the line this year Gary. You should've just kept Malkin suspended...

Congrats, Pittsburgh... hope next time you have to earn it!

Dude, Tigers have seen it up close 4 out of the 12 seasons... Oh I forgot, you are not aware that the same guy owns BOTH the Tigers and the Red Wings.... Of course that would require you to be a knowledgable fan. Now go home nd put your Jersey away until the Pens re in the playoffs again, because we all know you won't wear it until AT LEAST the foorball season is over... bandwangon=pens fans -
Yeah a regualr rostor spot on lowley Colorado. 1.2 million is too much to pay for him to be here. Downey would do sufficiant in that role. Give Downey a regular spot and he may get a few points too. I highly doubt Lappy is the answer to our penalty kill problems. McCrimmon needs to be let go and a REAL defensive/special teams coach needs to be hired... For the money Downey is better than Lappy. And Lemaire is better than McCrimmon...

LOL! This sounds like a lot of the stuff we were saying to you last season... You cannot deny Crysby's lack of professionalism both on and off the ice. Whacking the goalie in the second round, cheating? So, spearing Chris Osgood is legal? Dude, just enjoy your tainted Cup this summer, because another one of Bettmans kids will get their turn before you get back to the finals. (if ever) BTW, if you hate the Wings so much, THEN GET THE f*** OFF OUR FORUM! You don't see us in the pathetic pens forums do you? Bye Bye! There is nothing you can say to convince us that Bettman didn't help you by recinding the instigator to Malkin, thus NOT resulting in his suspension for game three in which he Wings would've won, now what, little boy? You have your Cup, just like Anaheim, Carolina & Tampa, enjoy it, it'll be your last. To me there was nothing impressive about it. You beat us by 1, one, uno, ONE goal in game 7. You almost gave up the tying goal with mere seconds remaining. Your so-called captain was exposed for the whiney, crying, diving little ***** that everyone thought he was! 3 points?!?!? 3 points!?!?! I spit at that! If it wasn't for Bettman, you'd be the one talking about losing in 5 games, because if Malkin doent play game 3, we come home up 3 games to 1. We're over it, we are used to being screwed around, we are used to losing once in a while, but you are so used to losing, someone gives you a bone, you think the Pens are the only NHL caliber team out there and the rest belong in the AHL. Go home, go suck each other dicks on your pens forum, and tell each other how omnipotent your team is, how everyone else is on the downturn and Pit will win the remaining Stanley Cup until the end of times. Every dog has their day and even fat chicks get laid once in a while, so Pit got their cup, a tainted one at that, enjoy it, you and the other 34,999 pens fans... Sorry to feed this troll, but I had to.... This guy doesn't even qualify as a troll... BTW, this wasn't even a thread about the Penguins, how the frick did this sub-troll turn it into one? You lose CupChumps77, Wings will have at least 2 more Cups before Pit gets back to the finals! Say Goodbye to Scudari! Don't be bitter, be like Sid and take it in the s***ter!

Sign Hossa, period. Brad McCrimmon should be let go and the likes of Jaques Lemaire or Guy Charboneau, Denis Savard should be offered the job. Hossa at $4 million highway robbery (for Holland) and it shouldn't cost us Cleary or Filppula. Just because Holland says the D is set doesn't mean he won't trade away someone, he just means he isn't looking to add anyone from outside of the organization... Hint Hint - Trade one of Rafi, Stuart or Kronwall and Ericsson steps right in to the lineup without having to waive Lebda or Meech. Of course you could always trade of one those two, but it wouldn't open up as much cap space. If Hossa signs for a cap hit of $4 million, it will cost us roughly $3 million to bring up Ericsson, Helm, Howard, Abdelkader and re-sign Leino. We will need around $7 million of cap space...

Thats alot of thinking. For the life of me, why would we sign Lappy for $1.2 when he turned down more from Colorado, PLUS we can have Downey at $500,000 who knocked the snot of Lappy if you recall... How about we attempt to score a high enough draft pick THIS year to get Hedman? Ya ya, I know he is gonna go 1 or 2, but if we're talking about absurd places Rafi would waive a no trade clause, why not package him and a hot prospect to the Island or Tampa? Or maybe trade up high enough to draft Cowen? on a side note, if the Islanders take Hedman, you are gonna have Tampa with BOTH Stamkos AND Tavares!!! Wow! Maybe a new wonder twins? You have our Euro twins, you have Crysby/Malkin, Toews/Kane and then Stamkos/Tavares!

Holland: Defense is set, waiting for cap figure
LeftWinger replied to Aussie_Wing's topic in General
in regards to Hossa. Lets compare another superstar from another "elite" team. You don't see san Jose lining up to get rid of Joe Thornton do you? And you won't. Only one team can win the Cup, and rarely is it the same team every year. I say if we exchange Hudler/Sammy/Chelios/McCarty for Hossa/Helm/Ericsson/Leino we're better off for the season. If it were possble to pick up someone like Lappy sure, but we already have Downey that needs a home, so if we were going to go that route he would fill that role just as good as Lappy. Plus he would cost TONS less. So here are the "trade offs" Hudler for a 1st and 3rd round pick Sammy/Chelios/McCarty/Kopecky for Helm/Ericsson/Lenio & Downey Hossa Long Term Conklin for Howard Poissibly Ledba or Meech for a draft pick (all depends on Lilja's status) -

well, not to fuel the fire on the refs but..... Orpik allowed to two hand Cleary..... Look how close the ref is looking at the situation, like he is looking to make sure Orpik doesn't commit a penalty, or maybe he was just looking to see if Cleary had swabbed out his ears that morning... -
Holland: Defense is set, waiting for cap figure
LeftWinger replied to Aussie_Wing's topic in General
Exactly! Rumor has it deal is already done for an active cap hit of 5.9 million per. Just waiting to see what the actual cap number will be so if they need to tweak it at all. Hossa is here for the rest of his career, we can mark that down for sure... ...and in the end, he'll have more cups than the Pens. -
Holland: Defense is set, waiting for cap figure
LeftWinger replied to Aussie_Wing's topic in General
Do you even know what you are talking about? As of right now, with Hank and Mule's contract taking effect the Wings have $9.4 million available under the projected cap for next year. That is avcording to our own LGW.com salary chart, just click on it and see. Also, if Hudler signs an offer from someone we won't get more than a second rounder? You don't think he'll make $2 Million somewhere? $2 Million gets us a first and a third. If he doesn't get qualified for $2 million or more, he may as well re-sign here since he made just over $1 million last year and anything less than $2 million would be a slight raise. I believe he'll get near $3 million from someone. Sign Hossa for sure, that still leaves you $3.5 million for Leino, Helm, Howard, Ericsson to come up. Let sammy and kopecky go along with Chelios and McCarty. -

Hossa on this team, makes it better. Injuries did us in in the playoffs. Hossa had more points than Crysby in the finals. So he didn't score. We still came an inch short of reeating. How come nobody is grilling Holmstrom for not scoring? Datsyuk stunk it up on the score sheet as well (pre-injury.) Lets just get on with it. Hossa is very valuable to this team, he is worth the money and will have less pressure on him next season. Cap room is easy, convince Maltby and Draper to retire, convince Rafi to waive his no trade clause and if Lilja cannotplay, that opens up $9.6 million MORE dollars to add to the projected $9.4million we have now. You let Hudler walk and get the draft picks in return. Sammy, Kopecky, Chelios, McCarty all leave. Unfortunately with Holland saying defense is set, Rafi won't get traded, but if we can still canovince Maltby and Draper to retir and count Lilja out, that'll still be $3.6 million more. If Hossa signes for a cap hit of $5.9million, we'll need roughly $3 million for Howard, Helm,Leino, Abdelkader & Ericsson, if we get those three salaries off the books, we should be fine for the season with the leftover cap and the $3.6 from Draper, Matby & Lilja. Now if they on'r retire, we can still get Hossa and the Griffins here for what we have in the Cap room, but it won't give us much wiggle room throughout the season, much like last season... -
They are one of the greatest Dynasty's ever. Until someone else steps up and wins 3 out of 6 and 4 out of 11, then noone else compares. Thats ok that we got beat by Talbot, Scuderi, Kennedy, because come contract time, with the league max contracts they've already given Malkin, Crysby and Fleury, in the end the Pees will get beat by the likes of Talbot. Scuderi is already gone this July anyway, with his stellar play this playoff (he should've gotten MVP) teams will be lining up to pay this guy! Too bad Detroit won't have room for him.... Besides, what would be wrong with 5 Cups in 13 years? that is still an average of a Cup every 2.6 years. I'll take this loss for that kind of consistency every time! When is the last time your team won? Just which is your team? Montreal? LOL! Chicago? even a bigger LOL!
-
and lest we forget the 2005 Lottery draft that was fixed in their favor so they could land Crysby. Oh and to Sid the Kid, you say Crosby wants 3 Cups, so he can get a few more in a couple of years? a few is three a couple is 2. Maybe you meant a couple more in a few years. Your run is done. You will lose the role players that won the Cup for you becauseof said crybaby, MAF and Malkin. I wanna be the first team in line when you lose Staal. You are already going to lose Scuderi, Satan, Fedetenko and Guerin for sure this July, what are you gonna do when Staal, Talbot & Kennedy's contracts are up? Those guys right there are the ones that won you the Cup. Good luck, maybe we'll see you there. Guarantee Detroit nets more Cups/appearances in the next 5 years than Pit does. Can't deny consistancy. In the long run it will be proven that Hossa made the right choice, he will have more Cups than Cyndy, mark it down as fact...
-
Nah, just turn the channel. Just like I did, when horn sounded last night. I turned it back for a second and caught Mickey talking to Guerin, but that was it. I had or have no desire to watch those guys hold the Cup, I almost would rather see Pronger raise it. Maybe....
-
Pittsburgh on top of the mountain? Yep, jus like the Lightning and Hurricanes were too. I am glad you won, at least now the commercials will actually hold some water. At least they can show then winning instead of just scoring a goal in a losing effort. You have your Cup, enjoy it. Time will tell if you'll be able to defend it. I hope you son't fall off the bandwagon when you don't repeat. If anything, Detroit and New Jersey have been to ONLY teams in the NHL that show they consitantly EVERY season seriously compete for a Cup. I will give you this one, you deserved it. But in five years we'll see who has more Cups. When Malkin's salary kicks in, you are going to lose players. You are going to lose the likes of Satan, Fedetanko, Guerin, Scuderi (who should've have gotten the MVP, he saved the Pens ass in game 6 and 7.) Hopefully your farm system is as good as ours because you are going to need it with the HUGE salaries on your team. Enjoy this Cup, this may just be your last. Knowing who the most consistant and dominating team has been since 1995, I know we will be back a couple of times in five years, where will you be? Just remember who won you this Cup. Kennedy, Scuderi, Talbot, Stahl. What are you going to do when their contracts are up? Where's Shero gonna find the dough? At least you've had one win, but when you can become as consistant as Detroit has been, then you can spew your junk. Now, go enjoy your Cup, leave our forum. It is time for us Wings fans to talk about the off season, the changes coming, and the more than likely 3rd appearance in a row in the Cup finals. Hope you are there with us, so we can get our revenge, but something tells me 1st round, out....
-
Just skimmig through the list, some players that might be worth a year or two: (if we can get rid of Draper, Maltby and Rafi) Pahlsson, Peca, Scott Nichol, Yelle, Knuble, Neil, Hinote, Tanguay (if he'd come cheaper), Fedorov (cheap), Moen, Lappy, a healthy Bertuzzi (cheap). Let Hudler, Sammy, Kopecky, McCarty, Chelios walk. It'd be fun to see Yelle and Tanguay back together. Hmmmmm....
-
http://www.letsgowings.com/salarychart/index.php According to our own LGW.com even WITH Z and Franz's contract going into effect, we have $9.4 million availble before anyone signs. If Hossa signs for a hit of $6million it'll cost us about $3million for Abdelkader, Leino (resign at $900,000) Helm, Howard and Ericcson. That'll leave $400,000. That is it. That is losing ALL of our UFA/RFA minus Hossa. Convince Maltby and Draper to retire and convince Rafi to accept a trade and if Lilja cannot play that'll open up $9.6 million MORE. then we will have roughly $10million for UFA's or trade line aquisitions... I do like Fedorov coming home, but not for the $4 million he made last season. If he'd take $1 to $1.5 million, he'd look great with Z or Pav AND on the Powerplay...
-
Amen! Any of the other mentioned players before Grier....
