the only thing I have to say is, whatever! These guys are getting paid for their opinions and alot of times they are more wrong than the weatherman! I could pick at least 10 folks from this forum that I would rather listen to than any of the schmoes that are the "experts" now! And that even includes some of our opposing team fans that come here! I cannot believe these guys get paid to do what we do (better)everyday! It's insane! Wasn't our goaltending a question last year? How many years do we have to hear it? First they say ANY goalie can be great behind our team, then thy turn around and say we won't win because of our goaltending! "Hasek is old, Osgood is a back-up!" Well, need we remind you who raised the Cup last year? I think deep down inside they all know who has the best chance but haveto pick someone else just so they all don't sound like... well, like they're fans from Detroit forum! Hey if we don't win this year, we'll be back next year, and the year after that, and so on.... Not like Tampa, Carolina, Anaheim, Colorado, need I go on?

nobody thought the Wings were favorites in 97, 98, 02 or 08! As a matter of fact, we had the same goaltending situation in all those years! Especially last season! You know what? Who cares! When win they get back to the finals, they won't be the favorite there either and when they win, guess what? They'll still show more commercials of the LOSING team on their NHL networks. If something happens to where they don't repeat, then oh well! Can't win every year, but guess who will be there year after year after year? The same team that's been there the past 15 years. no, you don't want to be obvious, you have to be subtle with things like that. Much like religion is, you have to have hidden meanings and symbols. Just give him #6. That'll 6 on one shoulder, 6 on his back and 6 on the other shoulder! at what point does the cap hit end? Is it after the trade deadline you can bring people up without it affecting the cap or is it after the season is over?

Another question, I know I heard Ken Daniels explaining that if they made a trade for someone making $1MM they'd have to clear $1MM in cap space (by moving a player) but what about those guys that were put on the waiver? (Gary Roberts for example) if the Wings picked him up off waivers what would the rules be then? Wold their salary count fully against the cap or would it be prorated?

WAAAAAAAAY to early to mention any of these guys for the HOF! Crosby especially. No, this is not an anit-Crosby response but I seem to remember a little guy that was taken first overall back in the 90's that was also the Next One. For those of you who don't remember, his name was Eric Lindros. He also started his career out on a tear. He won Hart's and scored at will. He was also projected to overtake Wayne's records and be a shoe-in for the HOF. Fast Forward to 2009, where's Eric? Exactly. We should put this thread in the vault for the next 15 years and see if these guys are still producing or even still in the NHL at all. I can pretty much say wth a huge amount of confidence that Phanuef (spelling) will NOT be in the hall. Lidstrom has set the bar for Hall of Fame defenders and I just don't see someone like that being around for 20 years. He plays too much of a physical game and his body will not hold up. So unless he starts pulling Norris' out of his ass, he will not be anywhere near Nicks stature when his career is done. I know this is a hypothetical thread and don't mean to take the fun out of it. But we don't even know who is gonna make the hall in the Old NHL (post 1994) class yet. Pre 1994 is a given with Yzerman, Modano, Sakic & Hull. But we're not even sure the likes of Datsyuk and Zetterberg can keep up their pace. I supposed if they do (as well as the OP's list) sure there would be serious consideration, but until we can see where they are 15 years from now,we may never know! Shoot 15 years from now, NONE of them could be in consideration!

I don't understand why nobody thinks Datsyuk can dish out a hit, didn't ANYONE watch the playoffs last season? I am baffled!
