PLD has re-signed in Columbus.

so I am cleaning up the office and I stumble across an old recording (from tape that I put on a DVD) of an old Wings game from Nov. 26, 1999. It is vs. Edmonton, broadcast on UPN 50 (Ray Laine is on it!) and it features Yzerman's 600th goal! So in celebration of the season opening (finally) I am going to kick back and watch this classic for a couple of hours!) Draper, Fedorov and Osgood out with injury, Ken Wreggett in goal, Darryl LaPlante and Aren Miller called up. You can tell it came from a video tape, but I don't recall how I got it on the computer to make a dvd. But hey, it was 21 years ago, and I have forgotten a lot since then! Here is a nice article describing a bunch of stuff this season when it comes to waivers and taxi squads: This is very interesting as well! Taxi squad DOES count against the cap if they are over a certain salary, just like the AHL: They are already back from Europe, if the AHL season does not start or is delayed by a lot, they'd be sitting around more if they weren't on the taxi squad. At least being on the squad, they can practice and travel with the NHL team, and at any moment be inserted in the lineup due to injury or sickness. Yzerman did say, if the AHL season gets going, he'd rather they be playing than being on the squad, so when/if that happens, then we will see how interesting it all gets and who comes to the taxi squad!

I love AA....but....

AND Ottawa bails another team out. At least they got a pick for their efforts! The guys Tampa got are both LTIR, so there is their relief! Along with Kucherov's $9.5M... Corey Perry signed in Montreal (previously over the cap by $365k) for $750k, putting MTL over by $1.1M. Still a few teams that should need to make a move or two to get under. Maybe Wings are still in the running to get some assets...
-
Here's what doesn't help our cause, idiots like Ottawa taking on Derek Stepan's $6.5M, bailing out Arizona, and NOT getting anything for it! As a matter of fact they GAVE Arizona a 2nd round pick! I mean I know they had THREE 2nds, but come on Ottawa, don't bail these teams out for nothing! Idiots...
-
I was just throwing stuff out there. In regards to Frolik, I was just looking at 30+ soon to be UFA's that would put them under. I don't think we will be getting anyone or any more picks actually, I was just thinking out loud.

Of all the teams currently OVER the cap, here are the ones that (as of now) do not have anyone on IR or still need to find more cap relief: Vancouver Toronto Tampa Vegas Montreal ...the other teams that are over already have people on IR that will no doubt be turned into LTIR to get their needed relief. I am sure all these teams will find a way to get under, they are all $1.5M or less over, Montreal is only $366k over. With the exception of Tampa which is $2.1M over (with Kucherov expected to be on LTIR.) There is no rule that says you cannot go with less than 23 players on your roster, so I imagine if it comes down to it, theses teams would just "waive" a player that doesn't need to clear to the taxi squad, or even a player that they know not many teams would take. Vancouver probably couldn't do this because the only 2 players that don't have to clear waivers are on their D, which sits at only 6 players right now. So, with this in mind, what would you be looking for from these teams? Assume you are either getting a 1st round pick, or a higher end prospect in return if they won't part with a 1st. Vancouver : Eriksson and a 1st (or Podkolzin) Toronto: Hyman and 1st (or Liljegren (but I know they are trading him)) Tampa: Johnson (or Killoen) and 1st (or Alnefelt) (maybe the 1st AND Alnefelt to take on that much salary and term) Vegas: I'd take Nosek back, but it's have to be for their 1st and another asset. (maybe a 2022 2nd or Krebs) Montreal: I'd take Frolik and a 1st (or Caufeild) again, they aren't too far over, so they probably not that desperate. ...again, these are just ideas, suggestions, I bet none of these teams will be desperate enough to trade a 1st away, but you never know.

True, I wouldn't be upset either way though. There aren't many UFA forwards left out there that I'd be interested in seeing here, unless you are signing a Hoffman to flip at the TDL. Other than AA there isn't anyone really. I wouldn't mind seeing Yzerman offer Dylan Strome a contract, but I don't want to lose any draft picks, so Chicago would match anything I would offer. Guess we go with a trade if we can, or just go with one of our own up front to total 14 forwards.

So here is what I read today, from mLive: So, Tampa (and others) better find some more LTIR or make a deal or they may be exposing a player or two to waivers. I know they put Johnson on waivers before, so they could always do that again, but I wonder (as the article did not touch on this) if the salary works the same? Would a team only get a percentage of cap relief sending a player to the taxi squad? Or does the squad's cap not count towards the cap? Obviously the players that wouldn't normally count towards the cap (players under the salary limit) but it should all work like regular waivers IMO. Looking ahead to the following season, it is funny to see that Tampa is $3.5M over the cap already with only 16 players on their roster! I think the they still better look to shed some salary this year, it'll be even tougher next season when things are more normal, they will really need to give up some assets then! I have always been an AA fan, so I would be fine with giving him a 1 year "prove it" contract...as long as his linemates are NOT named Nielsen and Filppula... Who else is still left out there? I haven't looked in a few days.
-
So now they have signed Cirelli for $4.8M, putting them $12M over the cap...Kucherov on LTIR brings them to $2.5M over, who will be the next guy having "surgery" this season....sheesh!

News From Around the NHL *Mod warning page 75*
LeftWinger replied to Bring Back The Bruise Bros's topic in General
I honestly don't see how they are going to do it without trading someone. They are $6.5M over the cap, IF Sergachev is "injured" then that only frees up $4.8M in LTIR. If the NHL somehow "allows" these teams to circumvent the cap issues, then this will be even more corrupt than the draft lottery! ...of course with the whole taxi squad thing, which I am assuming will NOT count against the cap, they could just move $2M off their roster to the taxi squad and replace them with a sub-million dollar call-up...reeks I tell you, it reeks! I am thinking if this were announced during the buyout period, then Yzerman probably would've opted to place Abby there instead of buying him out at 6 years and just waited until next season to buy him out...ugh, Gary Bettman is so ******* shady!!!! -
dang....oh well, well at least they'll be naming one soon!
-
I am really surprised that AA has not signed somewhere. I thought he could go and sign a $1M prove it contract somewhere...maybe he thinks he deserves top dollar....
-
Worst kept secrets because Holland can't keep secrets. Yzerman doesn't call it a press conference, it's just "addressing the media." Litterally the same thing, but sounds like a ho hum thing. Plus, in this day of COVID, there are no people/players/reporters gathering in and around LCA, this may just be Steve on cam and "The Next Captain" ready to turn his on once announced. I am just hoping for some exciting news, this off-season has turned out a bit slow after we all felt things were going to hit the fan left and right around here! (well at least I did! )
-
...also, regarding this division, if they are trying to keep things more regional, how do we get Dallas instead of St. Louis? Plus, we could've easily had Pittsburgh and Buffalo instead of Florida and Tampa. I am sick of Florida and Tampa.
-
So.....Steve Yzerman is scheduled to address the media at 2:30 EDT today....could we possibly be getting a Captain this afternoon?
-
Yep, they will all find a way to not trade anyone. I guess we just hold out and see what we get at the TDL for whomever we can trade...
-
I honestly don't think we'll be acquiring anyone. All these teams are going to find ways to circumvent the cap without having to move anyone.
-
forgot about Eriksson... How about taking Eriksson and Edler off their hands for Woo and a 1st?
-
Sketchy..... They won their cup, it's a short season, this stinks of rotten soup. Expect other teams in the cap crunch to do the same. Turn our attention west. I'll take Brandon Sutter, Jett Woo, 2021 1st.
-
why would we trade away the LTIR? That can only help us in acquiring more assets... It's basically an extra $6M on top of the $9.5M. I don't like that idea.
-
I would think so....but then again, there is always Svechnikov to take that spot. We will see!!! With training camps starting soon, things should start happening!
-
It wouldn't even cost that much. Plus, they are also talking about a 2022 2nd. to TPA: 21-4th Round pick, rights to Timashov to DET: Johnson, Killorn, 21-1st, 22-2nd, Alnefelt (possibly another prospect, Volkov?) that, IMO is a trade neither should pass on. The options we'll have after this deal is also well worth picking up the cap. Plus, these players make this team better. I, for one, am tired of getting screwed at the draft lottery. I'll take finishing 7-10 and dealing with my odds. Maybe we still finish 1-4, who knows...this draft is D heavy, with another Hughes possibly leading the pack, but there are plenty of high quality available to choose from in the top 10. Here is a December ranking of D in the top 10. Yzerman may not even be looking at a D. Here is the top 10 December ranking: ..not that I am turning this into a draft thread, but my point being, if we draft anywhere between 1-10, we will get a great player at any position. Right now, there's even another G in the top 10. I'd definitely be very happy with Hughes at #5 if we ended up there.
