...why don't they make a list of sports writers noone cares about? Obviously, they polled people outside of the home city, the Lions have plenty of support here in Detroit. As I am sure the Princeton mens team does at Princton... ...they are mostly right about ME personally though. For me, if it's not a local Michigan team, I don't care about them, especially if they are the OTHER 29 Hockey teams... ...and for the record ANY and I mean ANYTHING that has to do with Soccer or Golf for that matter... ...but yeah, stupid idea for a sports poll by this guy... ...how about the top 5 cable companies people hate? I believe Comcast would rank in that catagory!

...cool! Back in one of our threads that asked "What would you do with your one day with the Cup" that is what I said I would do! Sweet! Way to go Homer!

Chicago County Comissioner Already Trying to Mix It Up
LeftWinger replied to edicius's topic in General
...well it was all supposed to be a joke, and if you read the real text messaging between Kwame and his girlfriend, you would have seen the same words used, so yeah it was a joke, but thats ok, I don't expect everypone to understand... -

...who's feathers? I think the Wings have proven that nothing gets to them. They are probably honored to be part of the Classic (which is already slated to have Chicago win, it's in stone) but I think they'd just assume play it and go home. I never looked at the schedule but does this game make them NOT have a New Years Eve game or are they gonna play New Years Eve and then at 1:30 on New Years Day? They should play home and home with Chicago, so both teams are just as tired! Oh, BTW, Quigley is being coached by the NHL to say negative things, so the fan rivalry heats up, because he is tired of hearing how there are no Origianl 6 rivarlies anymore because of the alignments, so if Detroit/Chicago heats up, bam! Original 6, interdivisional Rivalry! Of course Buckwheat Kilpatrick is already in enough trouble, so Bettman isn't asking him to trash talk anyone... ...although I heard that there were some sex-texts intercepted between Buckwheat and Quigley Down Under... Quig: You no u my n***a, I told u how I like my *** licked Kwame: Oh, n***a pleez! U were tossin my salad all nite! And ur beeeotch wife best be tossin mine tomarow nite! Quig: Yes, massa, u rite! I'm ur hoe, just promise me I can clean the rim 2-nite. ...and that is all the paper would print, the rest is pretty raunchy... -
...who's not gonna be able to view it? I hope I can here in Detroit. If f*ckin Bettman put a blackout in the two cities I gonna hang him! edit: Just a note, if for some reason Bettman shows up hanged, I was only kidding, I am not really gonna hang him. In effigy...

...would you not rather have Sundin than McCarty? I would. If Sundin would sign here for McCarty's money, then BYE BYE McCarty... ...oh, and he sucks, he's a waste of roster space and is only here cause he has friends on the team. Downey earned that spot, Downey deserves that spot, NO WAY McCarty should get that spot before Downey. Downey should have played in the playoffs, not some washed up loser who only got back because he knows someone. How fair is that? ...I know Sundin won't come here for 500,000 but if he would and we had to choose between him or McCarty... ...exactly...
-
...well, if he wants to win a Cup I believe Holland has a spare 500,000 to 1,000,000 laying around, but that's about it. The rest belongs to Filpulla. (of course that means McCarty cannot hang around anymore... darn...)
-
...Clark Totally deserves his number retired by Toronto. Gilmour not so sure, but if you guys believe Gilmour should have his number retired by them, then Feds is a given... ...if you've watched hockey for that past three decades, when you think of Toronto you think of two people. Sundin and Clark.

...ok, so this is an old subject, but it's not just a thread about how cool it was or did you see that!?!? ...Everytime I see that video (it's on one of you guy's avatar's) I am more and more amazed! It got me thinking that it has to be one of, if not the greatest highlight goal in NHL history. Of course, I then told myself, nah, you're just being a homer and are a little bias, well, of course I am bias, but I watch it again and wow! Then I got to going over goals I could remember, looking through youtubes and google vids and not really finding one that is as exciting and awesome as Filupulla's goal... ...so what I'd like to start is a debate over highlight goals, maybe some of you guys could add some vids, but a debate on whether this goal could be top 5 or possibly the best highlight goal we've seen in the NHL... ...now I know we are going hear people talking about Yzerman and Bure and Fedorov stick-handling through traffic, and even Bobby Orr's goal (which was actually in the net BEFORE he was tripped, unlike Val's) but I'm talking sick indivdual goal mouth moves that just make you say " " ...hopefully we can get some opposing fans input on this, I know Cindy Crosby had some cool redirects we could see and compare, but I am hoping this really gets some cool chatting going... ...for me, I think Val's goal is the greatest goal ever scored in the NHL, unless I am forgetting one, their aren't many to compare. Actually I am hoping I am wrong and we see some great vids here, but either way, I'm hoping to see tons of sick goals...

...Where di I say Holland was God? Anyhow, I was not the only one bashing on Holland after another uneventful trade deaedline. Thing is, after one playoff disaster after another, I got tired of hearing "We need more scoring, We need to get bigger, blah blah blah..." I was VERY upset when he didn't aquire Fedorov, UNTIL I heard who Columbus wanted and I was VERY happy he didn't trade Filpulla... ...right about there I started claming down about Holland, yet still upset that all we got was Stuart, and even as the playoffs progressed (after I handed in my card) I kept my mouth shut, I didn't come on here and gloat about how good they were doing. It wasn't until AFTER the Cup was won that I came on here to 're-apply' for my card. I even put myself on Holland Probabtion for a while. And even though I will still critisize when needed, I no longer will get upset when he does something because he has proven, especially this season and off season that he is a genius (not a God) and I will definately ease up on him from now on. So long as he doesn't make a Federko/McKegney type move in the near future! BTW: Thanks Opie!

...you guys are missing the biggest part of this. McCrimmon was the first defense partner of Lidstrom, he was the one who taught him the North American system and helped Lids adapt from the Euro style to the NHL. Without Brad's guidance, Lidstrom maybe would have spent a few years in Adirondack instead of his entire career in the NHL. McCrimmon was proBABly the best choice the Wings could make! His repore with Hossa is just a bonus! He is already familiar with the Execs including Yzerman and Holland. I was totally caught off guard with this signing, but WOW, couldn't ask for a better hard nosed defensive style person! Remember the goal from center ice when he faked dumping it in and shot it at the net? I am sure someone can find it and post it! ...back to the Lidstrom factor, Brad was probably most influencial on Lidstrom developing from the best defensman in Europe to the best Defensman in the world! ...Ken Holland does it again!

...great, you win, just because you say every other example is more visually pleasing than Val's goal, so why not stop posting. As a matter of fact, why don't you create a forum and we can all come there for the ultimate NHL knowledge in the Nth degree. That would be a great idea! So I suppose, to you, an empty net goal is more visually pleasing than Val's goal too? Oh wait, you're a McCarty fan aren't you? McCarty DID win an ESPY for his goal, so I suppose that makes his goal THE GREATEST GOAL IN ICE HOCKEY HISTORY!!! ...sorry that you're a McCarty fan BTW...
-
...not to derail my own thread but you bring up something, Yzerman only played 258 out of a possible 410 games the last 6 seasons. He finished with 692 goals. Before the 2000-2001 season he was still getting between 25 and 35 goals even under Scotty's system. If he would've played entire seasons instead of roughly half, if he could've still averaged 30 per season he would have finished with roughly 872 goals. If he would've played the entire 1993-94 season in which at that time he was averaging between 45 and 55, so that would've have been about 20-30 more than what he did score that season, IF he stayed healthy, he could've breached 900 goals for his career. Now that would have been cool! ...ok, I'm back from would've, could've, should've land...
-
...yeah, but 2-0 is nothing. Look, even at the end of the game they were only one shot away from tying it. Val's goal made it 3-0 and everyone knows that 3-0 goal is the back breaker, they are now NOT one good shot or bad bounce away from tying it. Even though is was 2-0 and not 2-1, still the significance of a 3-0 lead is much more huge than a 2-0 lead. Although that was not the original intent of the thread, significance, but pure highlight...

lets see them, lets compare them. I've seen plenty of Lemieux goals, but for pure individual creativity, I think Jagr had him beat... edit: here are some of Mario's goals. Pretty good I'd say, I do like the back-handed one hander and the re-direct between the legs. Although I don't like one of the Mckenzie brothers commentators! His name is even Bob! ...nice goals, but I still think Vals beats all of these examples...
-
...uh, Joe Kocur? Marty Lapointe? Bob Rouse? Vladdy? We had plenty of gritty players, we didn't need McCrappy then and we didn't need him last year... ...Aaron Downey can more than be the grit we need. Hopefully he gets tons of playoff time next year and McCarty can go back to Flint... ..all I was saying is that no way Brown is on a lessor line than McCarty, even though there were no set lines combos with Bowman, so at anytime, anyone was with anyone...
-
...it's relevant because, Doug Brown was more important to those 2 Cup teams than McCarty was. Period. And to suggest that Doug Brown was a 4th liner and McCarty was a top liner is absolutely assinine... ...Who tied the Washington game when we were severely outplayed? And on a completely individual effort? Exactly. Anyhow back to the original topic... ...yeah, McCarty sucks...
-
...yeah, considering the player Greg Johnson turned out to be! Man I wish he could have stayed around for those Cups...
-
...there were no set lines, besides Doug Brown WAS NOT 4th line... ...Brown was more important to this team than FagCarty (that is why Kocur was part of the grind line, and prior to that, LaPointe was) so if anyone was 4th line it was him... ...McCarty = Waste of roster position then as well as now...

...of course he's gonna mention Pitt to the Pit media, what athelete do you know that is gonna say negative things about the city he is or has just currently played for? Hossa: "Sheet, I'd neve come back to this crybaby whining team EVER! They have no concept of winning, expect to cry and whine for calls when they lose. The coach stinks and Cindy Crysby is the most overrated player I've ever played for!" Hossa: "Fudge! Why did it have to be Detroit??!?! That is like the worst team to ever play for! I guess I'll make the best of it!" REALITY: "I'd lke to play for a winning team and Pittsburgh is probably on my short list" "Of course Detroit could be one of those teams too!" Then AFTER he signs: "I really hate Detroit, I am just here to make some money, win a Cup and increase my value and get the f*ck out!" ...of course, he is gonna say everything poitically correct... ...f*ck the crybaby Pitt fans, boy are gonna boo him!
-
...I am not talking goals of significance, just amzing sick goals... ...this was a great effort to follow the puck, BUT there was much amazing about besides the fact that it somehow found the net. The setup was average and Zetterberg was lucky to get his back-hand on it and it was fortunate to find the net. It is a great goal, but I think Val's was better...
-
...but, to the credit of managment, they offered Fedorov his huge contract and he told them to wait until the season was over because of his pending divorce and he just hired a new agent. That was in December of 2002, I believe he had his mind made up then that he was leaving, because that was actually MORE money than he got from Ahaheim. Also, remember 1997-98? He was briefley a Hurricane (on paper) until Holland matched the offer, so I think (as much I like Feds) he didn't want to be here then, he was having ego problems then. But yeah, no comparison to Hossa leaving Pittsburgh...
-
...for those of you that don't know, Fedorov scored #400 WITH Detroit... ...this is an ESPN article from when Fedorov first signed with Anaheim... http://espn.go.com/nhl/news/2003/0719/1582918.html ...even hockeydb.com has Fedorov scored 400 with Detroit...
