Holland to offer McCarty a contract?

...remember, just because Holland offers him a contact and he signs it, doesn't mean he'll be a Wing. It just means he'll be another Red Wings property playing in GRR, that is the ONLY guarantee for him. He would be available for call-up if needed. Not guaranteed a spot on the roster. I find it hard to believe that Holland would offer him a contract though, without thinking (knowing) that McCarty could be useful at the NHL level, so either way good for us, good foe him! He get to retire a Wing, just like Osgood got to come back and just as Fedorov will. And they will both retire where they had their greatest success, Detroit. (hopefully after a couple more successes, )

Holland to offer McCarty a contract?

..remind me again, are you for or against Fedorov coming back? Either way that logic there is just silly. McCarty can come back but not at Downey's expense. Downey is a much better fighter than McCarty right now...

Holland to offer McCarty a contract?

...while he has been out of the league for the entire season and most of last season (injured) one would think that he wouldn't bring much more to the table than Aaron Downey does. He would bring chemistry (with Draper and Maltby) and playoff experience. Why not give him a try for some playoff depth, but I hope it is not at the expense of Downey who has earned his spot on our roster...
  4. ...ahhh, but knowing that the Wings are very interested in him (he already said he'd welcome a trade back "home") would they risk losing him for nothing come July 1st? This is the same reason Chicago traded Chelios to us back in 1999. They were gonna lose him to UFA (partly because they weren't gonna re-sign him that summer (just like Columbus and Feds)) so as much as they hated trading within the division, they had to get something for him. So I think given the choice, either trade to Detroit or lose him to Detroit for nothing, the choice is obvious...
  5. ...this entire article and this reporters opinion is exactly why the NHLPA was created. If Toronto wanted to control what it did with Sundin, they should have never signed him with a no-trade clause. Sundin wanted the clause so he wouldn't/couldn't be dealt to anyone just so Toronto can get rid of him. The players union is there for the players, the players should be able to control their own destiny, ntobe controlled by the owners. It's ok to not re-sign him in the off season, but to suggest to treat him like dirt because he is honoring the contract Toronto signed him to is assinine... ...if you were to ask the author of the article what the Big Three should do in order to cut costs, I have an incling that he would say impose concessions on it's union employees or strip them of their livelihood and tell them we aren't gonna re-sign you next year. This guy is a jack-ass and obviously doesn't believe in what Ted Lindsay (and others) fought so hard for, as well as the UAW/IAM/Teamsters, etc...
  6. ...right, and who's to say that the right package is going to come from a ligit contender? The Thrashers want quality players in return, will Anaheim/Detroit/San Jose give up some of their core to land Hossa? Not at the expense of team chemistry. I agree with you, look for someone other than the top 4 teams in the NHL persuing Hossa. Unless Waddell is an idiot and trade's him for pennies... ...Sundin may just pull a Blake and say he is not waiving his trade clause for anyone. Maybe Wings should focus on players that won't cost him the world. Get Feds/Foote for a nice package. Get Stuart out of LA and maybe a Mike Comrie out of the Island...
  7. ...ooooooo inside info!!!!! ...concerning your sig about drafting Luke Richardson over Sakic. Looking at that draft I think everyone from #3 to #14 wished they could go back and draft Joe, even us! We picked Yves Racine over Joe Sakic!!!! :puke:
  8. ...so if we stand pat and the Ducks stand pat, we lose. This is why Kenny needs to make a couple of deals. Score Sundin or Hossa. Add Fedorov/Stuart or Foote. Right now we don't have secondary scoring. Remove Hudler and Filpulla and maybe Kopecky from this team add Feds and Hossa or Sundin and I think we address the secondary scoring. Get Foote or Stuart or both (Sure!) then we have definate defensive depth... ...bottom line, Kenny needs to make two or three moves to improve this club for the playoffs. Burke doen't need to make any, but if he does, they Kenny will have to do even more to better his team. Like it or not, the Ducks are built for the playoffs, the Wings for the regular season, that needs to change by February 26th or we're doomed...
  9. ...your position clarification has been noted and acknowledged... ...it's obvious we all have positions on this and other players, I just can't wait anymore to see if anything happens!!!! COME ON FEBRUARY 26TH!!!!!!
  10. ...this arguing is silly. Kenny, get Sundin, Stuart and Fedorov, now see what happens and lick your wounds later. If you lose Kronner/Hudler/Kopecky/prospect who cares, you have players ready to come up next year, plus you always have July 1st to help rebuild... ...roll the dice Kenny...
  11. ...so in 2009-2010 our team would consist of Datsyuk/Zetterberg/Lidstrom/Hossa & Sundin because they would suck up all our cap space... ...that would be a pretty good 5 man unit, Datsyuk could prolly play defense with Lidstrom, eh? I wonder in the NHL would allow us to turn our net around and make the opposing players bank the puck in to score since we couldn't afford a goal-tender...
  12. ...Kronwall is coming into his own, you're right, but would you give up Hudler and Kronwall for a Stanley Cup? Maybe 2? Sure you'd be giving up a lot of potential, but look at who is waiting in the minors with a lot of potential too! Kindl, Ericsson, Abdelkader, Emmerton and Helm to name a few. The three forwards I mentioned could come in a replace Hudler minutes with no problem if needed. But, if we have Sundin for 2 more years and Fedorov for the rest of his career and maybe another forward come July 1st (Rolsten(sp) maybe) then we really won't miss Hudler or Kopecky or Kronwall. I'd hate to trade Kronwall too, but you have to give up something, we all hated to get rid of Kozlov but it did help bring us another Cup... ...just curious, WTF happened to all the Fabian Brunnstrom talk? It seemed like for about a week every team wanted him, now we hear nothing about him, did he choose a team? Ok, back to your regularly scheduled topic... ...I'd take Sundin for this plus 2 years for sure, that makes him NOT a rental, no more than Brett Hull or Luc were. Do Holland, get him here NOW! Then go out and shore up your D and get wait to get Feds on July 1st...
  13. Did you not read the original post? Here's the short version: Leafs must approach him about trade clause, he gets two year extension @ $5 million and the team MUST BE DETROIT... ...if you still aren't sure, go back to the original post...
  14. ...well, does that mean he only wants to play for Detroit if traded? Yay! ...he wants a two year extension to stay here for two years after we win the Cup this year? Yay! ...$5 million per year is worth it. I would pay him the money, but it all depends what Toronto wants in return... ...Sundin @ $5 million per year. Get Fedorov and re-sign him at $1.5 million per year... ...get some defensive depth (no big names) and hold on for the ride!!! ...next year, Kindl or Ericsson could make their debut. Meech and Quincey should have jobs and maybe Captain America will stay on for another to take them under his wing...

So who still wants to trade Ozzie?

...easy? He may have had it easier after the Wings scored the 4th goal. But in the first period, he made some stellar saves when they needed him to. When it was still 0-0 and 1-0, he stopped some great chances, chances that were going in the last few starts. No, he didn't win it himself, the entire team stepped it up, but they had to with Lidstrom out. (They are going to have to keep it up for a few weeks now.) ...Osgood won't be traded, if the Wings came to him about a trade scenario, he would just retire. This is his last stop (much like Chelios) when he is ready to hang em up, it'll be while he wearing the Winged Wheel... ...but to answer the OP's question. It's much like your job. If you do your job and do it well, you don't hear much about it. Screw up a few times and holy hell comes down. Like the say 'No news is good news." We all know Ozzie played great, just because we aren't on here calling for a Vezina doesn't mean we don't recognize him. It's just easier to say someting when someone plays bad. No news is good news...

    Lidstrom injured: "Not too serious"

...so if they want to remain safe with Lidstrom, do we get our first taste of Kindl or Ericsson on Friday night?
  18. LeftWinger

    Lidstrom injured: "Not too serious"

...I did not see an elbow to the jaw, lets stop those rumors here and now. IF anything, he totally avoided the puck and went after Lidstrom, but the hit was a fraction of a second before Lidstrom kicked the puck with his skate, so if you are fine tooth combing it, it could have been interference, but it was a good hard play. Even if it were interference, that is not dirty... ...not a dirty hit, Lidstrom was caught in a vulnerable position, it happens. Hopefully he'll be back soon...
  19. LeftWinger

    Lidstrom injured: "Not too serious"

...good, but a knee injury could keep him out until Round 2, which we will not see without him...
  20. LeftWinger

    Lidstrom injured: "Not too serious"

...yep! Trainer and Zetts after ref kept him from falling on his ass. He did get up on his own and start to skate off, but you could tell he was rocked, that is why he needed help the rest of the way. What would a basketball player have done? They may have needed a stretcher for him...
  21. LeftWinger

    Lidstrom injured: "Not too serious"

...the knee may be hurting a little, but it looked to me like you got his bell rung! He prolly got the wind knocked out of him, as well as the knee. His head did slam the wall so a consussion is not out of the question. What is out of the question is a Defensive scorng title/Norris Trophy/Stanley Cup if he doesn't come back for the rest of the season... ...and if that is the case, Holland just as well save his money and trades this year, they would be pointless without Lidstrom. Coast into the playoffs, lose in the first round and try it again next year...

    Thoughts on Howard

...has played good, he is for sure or future goaler. Won't help us in the playoffs this year though. We're doomed...

    2/17 GDT: Stars 1, Red Wings 0

...well if you ask me the Wings better start dealing right now! They officaially need 2 scoring forwards (Fedorov Sundin/Hossa) and a bruising d-man (Foote/Stuart) possibly a goalie. They have officailly been the worst team in the NHL in the month of February, they are threatening to allow teams to catch back up to them. Hell Dallas had a four point swing today. Tomorrow they hace Colorado who they beat last time but they look crappy doing it! Were are officially tanking, our guys are tired, they are losing. If this keeps up, it'll be an early summer for the guys (1st round loss.) ...as of right now the only untouchables on this team should be Lids/Zetts/Dats/Holm. Everyone trade bait. This is about winning not about loyalty, loyalty doesn't win championships anymore. Sure, we shouldn't really panic, but I am pissed off. This team has played like crap for three and a half straight weeks and to lose 6 games in a row?!?! ...I say open the flood gates up, if these guys don't want to win, then get some players who do! Problem is, at the beginning of February we held the trump card on any trade we were seeking beause we weren't in dire need for anyone, except some depth. Now, on the other hand, we desparately need some players to stop the bleeding and other teams know this, now they hold the hand that trumps us! If we wanted Sundin, it would have cost us a roster player, a couple of prospects and some picks, now it'll cost us Roster player's, TOP prospects and first round picks. Holland won't be able to do anything without raping our future. If this bleeding doesn't stop by the deadline and prices go up (like we know they will) I say stand pat with what we got, back into the playoffs, get swept in round 1 and then look forward to July 1st... ...CNN reports that the Dow Jones in down, the NASDAQ broke even, the price for crude oil hits $100 and Fedorov will now cost Hudler/Filpulla/Kronwall/Ericsson and 2 first round picks. We'll be in Iraq for 100 years and there is no end in sight!
